Moto X+1 for AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint – Leather MotoMaker Options Pop-up Again

moto x1 free lulz

This whole Moto X+1 saga is quite interesting. Word of this mysterious device/promo/who-knows-what-it-really-is arrived through leakster @evleaks, along with word of new leather backs, but has since made another appearance on Motorola’s MotoMaker site for all to see.

While we don’t have a ton of info to add to this far-from-finished story, we have seen new references on Motorola’s own site through a cached page to the four colors of leather that were previously outed. We have also seen mentions of carriers and found the image you are seeing above with the name “Moto X+1″ and a direct reference to AT&T.

From what we have seen, the Moto X+1 will indeed have black, blue, grey, and red leather options. Actually, it’s pretty obvious that this Moto X+1 product will indeed be available through MotoMaker, as it has been attached to all current Moto X options, including front plates, back plates, storage sizes, accents, cases, and of course, carriers.

Speaking of carriers, we are seeing references to Verizon, Sprint, and AT&T. Again, as you can see from the header image above, a page has already been built for the AT&T Moto X+1. Keep in mind that this is simply a place-holder page, and that is not the actual product or price. Seeing those three carriers shouldn’t surprise you, though, since those are the same three major carriers attached to the Moto X. Remember that T-Mobile passed on the Moto X for the most part and instead left control of an unlocked model that worked on T-Mobile’s network up to Motorola to handle. For all we know, we could see a similar situation with this device.

I think the take away here should be that whatever the Moto X+1 is, it will be very similar to the original Moto X. You will have MotoMaker access, which means you will be able to customize the device with new options like leather.

Motorola told us to expect the new Moto X in late summer. If the Moto X+1 is the new Moto X, Motorola has clearly started getting things ready ahead of time.

Or maybe Motorola is trolling us by leaving pages like this up and live.

i don’t want coloured leather. give me natural leather and you can take my money now

  • Gr8Ray

Leather back to match the leather band of your paired 360?

  • needa

i still have to hope that the +1 part is an accessory. it is such a stupid name for a phone. maybe the -400 is the amount you save by buying both the phone and the watch.

  • Todd

Moto’s website will crash again, just like on Cyber Monday

  • C-Law

“One” is in too many phone names right now!

  • Larry Bublitz

I look at $400 as a placeholder… any chance it’ll launch at $400 retail? Not in my opinion. Launch higher and then discount it downward to generate excitement. (If it *IS* $400 at launch, holy crap, watch Swappa load up on Moto X sales!)

  • https://www.facebook.com/christopher.johnsc chris_johns

I think my x will last me till next year…these new phones are fun but i think 2 years time is fine for a phone unless something happens(poopsy) and you need a new phone…but if i were to get a new phone id be the next x…i love the specs of g3 but its far 2 big for a phone and not a fan of the back buttons…or the m8 but again to big…i carry a ton of stuff in my pockets when i go out i dont need extra bulk from an oversized phone thats oversized for absolutly zero reason

(Note) Sarcastic inflection on the above statement

  • blow it out your ace

It’s not really that interesting and it’s far from a saga. Here we go again with the moto wiener slobbing. The lg is interesting, and it’s closer to a saga than this +1. You’re so predictable kellex. I’m gonna laugh when you are disappoint with the new x screen size.

    • https://www.facebook.com/christopher.johnsc chris_johns

do you want me to upvote you so you can have some of the attention your seeking? loser

      • blow it out your ace

how about instead you f*ck off? i’m super upset that you think i’m a loser. douche

  • chris125

I hope they keep the $400 off contract pricing. Now to see the specs for the device!

  • Count Sana

Sounds really cool! There are always too many things about Motorola smartphones which make me preffer their products over Samsung,LG,apple and htc..

  • Justin Merithew

I really hope T-Mobile carries the X+1. I’d love to use JUMP to get one for myself and one for my fiance. If they keep the 4.7 inch screen or stay close to it that’s the biggest selling point for me. Standard flagships are pretty tough to use for one handed use for her, and even me sometimes, with my fairly big hands.

  • Antonello

Higher screen resolution HD faster processor SD card HDMI and a killer camera and I’m in

    • https://www.facebook.com/christopher.johnsc chris_johns

i truly miss the hdmi i dont know why moto stopped this…was a perfect system

      • hkklife

MHL, Slimport and all similar “solutions” pale in comparison to “real” microHDMI due to the reliability and wide availability of cables. But I can understand formfactor limitations as well. I just wish we didn’t have several feuding and incompatible standards in the marketplace.

  • Bryan

Could the X+1 refer to a larger screen size along side the original Moto X?

  • CharlesJorgenson

Of course there isn’t a tmobile version. Godfuckingdammit

    • Cameron Nelson

You can still use it on T-Mobile though. Just like the Moto X now. No worries Moto X+1 will be usable on T-Mobile.

  • Arty McBert

Put in an SD card and I’ll give you all of my money, Moto. I hope that if they become apart of Lenovo, they’ll tell Google Drive to screw itself and go back to SD cards.

  • maxx1987

wish it was coming out sooner, i’ll be getting the g3 unless some glaring reason not to. i really wanted this, but need to ditch this razr maxx asap, it’s barely hanging on just recently.

    • http://thebeeobee.com/ thebeeobee

      root and use lagfix.

    • Tyler

Clear the cache on the phone. I did it on my mom’s RAZR HD and it really helped remove the lag significantly. Still not as smooth as my galaxy nexus though.

  • Ralph Bretz

I don’t really want to wait until the end of summer to choose a new phone. Motorola needs to push the launch up like LG did to compete with HTC and Samsung.

If the LG G3 has over a 3000 mAh battery and a Developer Edition for Verizon then I’ll have to really consider it. Right now I love my Moto X and the cool uniquie features.

    • Godzilla

Not gonna happen. Very rarely does moto launch flagship outside of late summer, early fall

      • hkklife

Historically, Moto spread out their releases which I think worked a LOT better for them. On the other hand, they are releasing many fewer devices now than they did years ago.

Case in point: OG Droid arrived in early November 2009. The Droid X came in July of 2010. The Droid 2 came in Aug 2010 and the D2Global came in November. Then the Atrix came in Feb 2011 and the Bionic was bumped from March 2011 to September 2011. Droid X2 came in May 2011 and Droid 3 in July 2011. Then Moto got on their current release schedule when the Droid RAZR came out in November 2011, the RAZR Maxx came out in Jan 2012 and the RAZR HD line came out in October 2012. We all know that the X launched in August followed by the G in November 2013.

I think think much of Moto’s “4-5 months behind Samsung and a year behind in specs” release cycle crushed them in 2012 and 2013 and really needs to be revised SOMEHOW, especially with Apple always stealing Moto’s thunder in the Q3 release window and Samsung always delivering a new Note in the fall prior to Christmas to compliment their latest Galaxy S from earlier in the year.
        .

    • kashtrey

It doesn’t serve Moto at all to launch so close to these other phones and have to go head to head against them in advertising and what not. Moto doesn’t have the resources to spend to bring their awareness for the X ahead of something like the S5. It’s better to launch in a quieter month where they can dominate the tech headlines, rather than be just another new smartphone.

      • Ralph Bretz

        Very excellent points.

  • Godzilla

They are adding one more core, LOL.

    • Orion

Mr. Godzilla, any word on that moto phablet???

  • DJ SPY

Maybe there will be a Moto X+1 which will be a little bit more premium than the current X in some way. Or Moto X+1 is what they’re calling the leather edition? Later on, late summer, we’ll have the Moto X-2. Let the hyper beasting begin!

    • Ralph Bretz

I’d like this. Moto X+1 a slight reboot with more options to choose from in Moto Maker and then the Moto X2 (leaked Specs of XT912A) late summer.

  • Godzilla

You get the Moto X +1 porn star of your choosing. I choose Ashlynn Brooke. And what back do i choose? I choose bare back.

  • DanielMena9

    Sounds like a BOGO ? Moto X + Moto G for $400? Thoughts?

    • Peter Blanco

Hmmm I going to say a nogo, not sure if you were serious or not! The X+1 is been found in benchmarks, it’s a separate phone!

      • http://thebeeobee.com/ thebeeobee

        What processor in the benchmarks!?!?

        • Peter Blanco

          I believe the 800?

        • Peter Blanco

          I believe the Snapdragon 800?

  • http://pocketnow.com/ Rithvik Rao

You know, Moto, if you pay me $400, I just miiiiight take this phone. :P

  • Cael

Motorola should just say screw you to T-Mobile.

    • Droid Ronin

I have the Moto X on T-Mobile and I’m not complaining at all. The LTE network here is great and no T-Mobile bloatware on the phone.

      • Cael

I’m just saying T-Mobile has no reason to pass on it at all.

        • Stone Cold

They were burned in the past so I understand their point. T-Mobile customer’s need to start tweeting Legere about carrying it.

        • kashtrey

Except, that honestly this is probably a better model to follow. Have a network that accepts any phone with the correct antennas and the correct SIM. Don’t bother with special arrangements, carrier bloat, carrier customization etc.

          • Cael

Yeah but they miss out on the potential advertisement.

        • Cameron Nelson

The only reason I can see it being a problem is that they charge you monthly rates for the phone you buy. Say you buy a LG you pay $20 a month instead of the phone. This could be a problem because the whole point behind the Moto X is customizing it and having it sent to you. So T-Mobile won’t really be able to properly do their rates. Of course just spit balling but could be why. Otherwise they just know that their network is open to any phone as long as you pay for their services.

          • Cael

They can do that with the standard black and white versions that the other carriers got.

          • Cameron Nelson

They can but I personally wouldn’t buy a Moto X in black or white over a LG G2. Being able to customize the phone is huge! Of course I have no idea why they did what they did but they aren’t stupid so they had their reasons I’d assume. Either way I thank them for saving my family $1,000 a year that the red devil doesn’t get!

      • MrCrusha

But I’m guessing you don’t have wifi calling or did someone hack that for your motoX

        • Droid Ronin

I don’t have Wi-Fi calling, but haven’t needed to use it since I mostly get pretty good call reception.

  • Mario Williams

I have to ask for anyone who has the Note 3 or any other phone in leather. Is it a good feeling having a leather phone? Or would it be better to stick with a normal back?

    • Jeff C

There is no phone in leather. The Note 3 is plastic made to look like leather.

    • Carlos Lopez

its not leather its plastic with a leather texture but it felt fine when i had it

    • Guest

And this is marketing at its finest…FAUX leather.

      • The Narrator

Maybe it’ll appear on Faux News.

      • Justin W

Plastic… With the shape of faux leather.

    • Steve Brule

My wife is into leather, and good battery life.

      • Stevedub40

        Sounds a little kinky :p

    • http://androidintvfilm.tumblr.com/ wade_county

The BlackBerry Bold 9000 had faux leather and it felt great. I hope its feels and be durable like the BB 9000 and OG Nexus 7 perforated back.

    • Justtyn Hutcheson

That will greatly depend on what kind of leather, how it has been treated, etc. etc. Being that it is on a phone, we will see what was necessary to make it work with the antennas properly.

    • Mario Williams

I really appreciate the quick replies you all. Thanks!

    • nosedive94

The Note 3 is NOT leather. It’s just as plastic as all their other phones. It’s not even soft touch. It feels awful. However, I think having an ACTUAL leather back would feel good.

      • Dave

I taped it off real nice and sprayed it with DuPont PlastiDip. Nice dry tacky grip that I would best describe as 320 grit rubberized sandpaper. Comes off nice if you want to redo it.

      • kashtrey

I think awful is an overstatement, but it’s really a subjective thing. It’s not my favorite feel, but it’s leaps and bounds ahead of anything else Samsung has done. If it weren’t for that tacky stitching, I’d actually think it was a good design decision.

    • BillySuede

feels fine to me but i tend not to fuss over these things.

  • Sean Walton

    Bring it on Moto!!!

  • Ray

I just cant get excited about any other phone right now besides the LG G3

    • http://thebeeobee.com/ thebeeobee

Why what’s so cool about the g3?

      • Ray

        Trolling?

        • Carlos Lopez

maybe he actually wants to know?

          • Guest

            maybe he cant read articles?

          • http://thebeeobee.com/ thebeeobee

I can’t find an article about why Ray is excited to get a particular phone.

        • The Narrator

          He’s a troll

          • http://thebeeobee.com/ thebeeobee

            False.

        • Tyler

I can tell you the software isn’t as cool and LG’s update record isn’t as cool (speed of updates). Personally I think the G3 will be a great phone and really push the envelope when it comes to specs, but LG is following Samsungs footsteps and I’d rather see them make their own, especially when it comes to software.

        • http://thebeeobee.com/ thebeeobee

No, seriously. Reminds me of last year’s phones, for the most part. What’s new?

          • anon

Are you just dumb or trolling

          • http://thebeeobee.com/ thebeeobee

Neither. What’s new? What can you do on this phone that you couldn’t on the LG G2? Most be a lot since you are insulting me.

That high ppi screen might cause issues with pixel based images the same way that everything looked terrible on retina level screens when they first came out. Developers and designers are going to have to include extra high resolution images to be shrunk down which will take up more precious paid bandwith, but unless apple goes with this high of a resolution, most won’t bother.

So most webpages will look WORSE on this phone. Vector based images will look great however.

Other than this convo about the display, what can it do? i’m totally curious.

        • Arty McBert

To me the G3 seems only good from a spec-hound perspective. I want a Moto X2 (or +1) because Motorola actually cares about software performance and everyday use rather than having high specs just for bragging rights. I don’t need a 2560×1440 display (nobody does, honestly, it’s really stupid to put that high of a resolution on a phone) gigs of RAM and the fastest processor just so I can show off my benchmarks to my geek friends to compensate for my tiny penis. Don’t get me wrong, I really do like having the best performance and what not, but only on a PC where that performance actually matter (i.e. REAL gaming, video/image editing, etc.) But on a phone, you’re not going to do any of that. I want a phone where software is just as important and a battery life lasts and lasts.

          • skinja99

Stop complaining about improvements in technology. Jesus……

If nothing else, improvements in hardware specs will force competitors to improve their software, form, battery, storage, function, etc……

Do people really think that in 5 years we will still have only 1080p phones?…………. That we will all just accept 1080 as the highest resolution for the rest of human existance. Hardware specs are going to improve. Stop complaining that it is happening now. Ram will improve. Bus speeds will be faster. Does anybody need a high resolution screen is the same question as does anybody need a 3000mah battery.

Stop complaining that phones are going to have better specs and high resolution screens.

          • Nikuliai

PC market is stuck (comercially) at 8 cores at max 3.6GHz, been like that for at least 4 years, the same thing will happen with mobile, it’s not something you can blame to “improvements in technology”, it’s max clock frequency and nanometers of the chip itself, it’s not gonna just “keep evolving” unless they find another tech to replace it that may maximize this.

PS: 2K SHOULD be the max resolution, I’m not saying I want that resolution (cuz I don’t), but anything beyond that point is stupid (because we won’t be actually able to SEE the difference anymore. A whole different thing is the fact I don’t see much pixels on my 4.7” 720p display, so I don’t really care about screen size, 2K MAX is just facts, about how much ppi the human eye can actually handle

          • michael arazan

That’s all I’m waiting for is the X +1, haven’t bought a phone since my GNex for myself. Got my dad the moto X and he thinks it great. Just hope it’s larger with some better specs.

          • Big EZ

The rumored 5.2″ Moto X and the G3 are currently tied for my next phone. Yes the G3 has a horrible skin, but as long as I can flash a rom I’m fine. Plus with the rumored removable battery, and my hope for a microSD slot, the G3 may end up being better for me. I do love the stock software on my wife’s Moto X, but 4.7″ is way to small, 5.2″ is as small as I will go back to (currently on a Note 2).

          • C-Law

Lol, see I’m the opposite. I went from a gnex, to an S3, to a note 2, to an s4, to a moto x. I love my moto x and refuse to give it up any time soon bc its the perfect size to me. I got rid of the note 2 bc it was way too big for me and the s4 also felt too big. I hate this new rumor of the next moto x being 5.2″.

          • Big EZ

They won’t get rid of the 4.7″,they already have the manufacturing process down. They will probably just add new sizes as options. Maybe this year they’ll add a 5.2″ version, and next year maybe a 5.5″ or 5.7″.

        • niuguy

          Sensitive?

    • nosedive94

The G3 will be good ONLY if LG does a full makeover of their Android skin. I would have bought the G2 last year if it wasn’t for that disturbingly aggravating skin.

      • Ray

I dont like it either however xposed module should be able to remove all the ugliness of that skin

        • http://ThisWeeksBeats.com Deez

I’m fed up with changing product features after I purchase it. I liked the Moto X out of the box without having to change anything to it. So the new Moto X will be my next phone as well.

          • niuguy

Yeah, I’m thinking the X2 (or whatever they call it) will the phone to replace my N5. As long as its 5″ or below I’m down. I owned a Phablet and I don’t want to go back…and I too am tired of installing roms.

G3 shan’t be more than 5.2inches. These phones are getting outrageously too big. If the G3 is going to be as big as they say, it will be officially a phablet.

      • Arthur Dent

        It’s 5.5

    • Kevin

Then why bother coming to this article in the first place?
