Hands-on With the New Google Wallet, Download Available

new wallet2

Google shocked us a bit this morning with the announcement of a new Google Wallet app that works on almost any device, as long as they are running Android 2.3 and above. The app may not be able to make NFC payments through all devices, but it does bring a loyalty cards locker, money-sending between email addresses, and Google Offers to your fingertips.

The update was supposed to begin rolling out as early as today, and sure enough it has. A handful of readers were able to grab the update immediately following Google’s announcement, which means we have it for you to sideload should you be on the slow end of this staged rollout.

In the revamped app, we’re seeing classic Android design guidelines with the “hamburger” or slideout navigation menu. You’ll find pages for My Wallet, Send Money, Transactions, Wallet Balance, Offers, and Loyalty Programs embedded within. If you own a supported device, you’ll see a wallet balance and default credit card at the top of the main tab, with a “You’re ready to tap and pay!” message. If you do not own a supported device, you’ll only see a wallet balance box.

As you navigate through each section, you’ll see instructions for setting each up, from adding bank accounts, to finding loyalty programs, and sending money to friends. It’s all pretty straight forward stuff, but certainly welcomed. Wallet on all phones! Sort of.

  • Matthew Van Ooyen

Installed through the play store on my Vzw GNEX, and Tap to Pay says its “Ready to Tap & Pay”. Haven’t tested in stores yet, anyone else getting this?

  • Daistaar

Did anyone else lose Tap and Pay with this update? I had Tap and Pay with a CC and Debit card at the top of the screen before but now with the update it shows wallet but no cards… This is on a T-Mobile GS4 thanks to the link on the right for the last few weeks.

  • zach471

I’ve read through the comments and it’s still not clear to me. I have working tap to pay on my GS3 with LS ROM. Had to modify the build.prop of course to get it working originally. Will this update break that function, requiring me to re-edit the build.prop?

  • josephz2va

Not available for Moto X yet.

  • jbegs

I couldn’t authenticate my PIN on Wi-Fi. Turned it off and I was able to update through the play store. Now when I go back to the app with Wi-Fi on it shows no internet connection. I have a stock Verizon GN2. Anyone else seeing this issue?

  • Ben Pasternak

Working here Verizon galaxy note 2 stock rooted unlocked

  • David Salsburg

This APK installed and setup with no issue on my 2013 Nexus 7. This device has NFC (and i’m completely stock, no root), but i don’t have the option to tap and pay.
    Why would this be?

    • CAC1031

I thought the new Nexus 7 doesn’t come with NFC?

      • David Salsburg

Nexus 7 (2013 model) does come with NFC chip. i can toggle it on or off in settings, and users have reported Beam and tags work ok.
i am just wondering why it appears as wallet is ignoring the fact there is NFC on board this device.

has anyone else tried this APK on a Nexus 7 ?

  • Eric

I just used the tap to pay on my Verizon gnex and it works perfectly.

I am running shiny ROM and installed it from the apk and not the play store.

  • Skittlez

crazy. just update on my VZW GNex. awesome

  • Dominick White

Google wallet seems to be now working on Verizon devices…. Just got the update on my Droid dna.. Before that it would always say that the droid dna was a unsupported device

  • mrjayviper

like often the case, it’s ONLY US only :/

there’s more to world than just the US Google!

  • markslomski

Just tried the play store to download and of course att has it blocked for my note 2, but with a little side load action and a big ol FU to att i got it working and i can tap my phone to pay at cvs for my perscriptions (just tried). att isis what? take that service and shove it, you charge enough every month at least let me use what apps I want. Another note tried side loading it on the wifes s3 and I keep getting a pin setup error, any ideas guys i’ve tried mostly everything except tinkering in terminal emulator but if the wife catches me screwing with her phone she’ll kill me.

  • Beamish

With my stock VZW GNex and Note2 I could only get the sideload to work if I did the install on WiFi. Using LTE it would fail each time. YMMV

  • umbrellacorp

Any device but devices on Verizon, right?

    • Chris

It will open and work on Verizon, you just can’t actually use the NFC or make payments through the app.

      • Skittlez

i’m gonna have to try this. i don’t see why you wouldn’t be able to if you have the hardware, and i’m still prompted to turn NFC on when i open Wallet

    • Skittlez

i just updated it on my Verizon GNex

  • Richard Jackson

Installed the app on my unlock but stock Gnex. I have tap and pay ready and go. I use it earlier under a older apk so maybe it just let me slide. On a side not my install doesn’t have the dreaded your device banner on top.

  • Col_Angus

Secure Element is still fried and won’t let me open the new version either.

  • section08

Does this come with mobeam support? You know, to actually get the loyalty codes to scan?

  • Ross Guida

Am I reading that some people on Verizon with S4 are able to make this work (tap to pay) – on my phone after verification I do not have the tap to pay, only wallet balance.

Are there any extra hurdles to jump or is this the same old “not going to work on Verizon” deal…? :(

  • addicuss

These bar code apps have never worked for me. They just end up with me awkwardly pulling my plastic card out after the confused checkout person fumbles with my phone for 30 seconds trying to figure out what the hell im trying to do.

  • melvinjames325

    as James explained
I am blown away that a person can make $9966 in one month on the computer.
did you look at this web page http://www.Prℴ67.cℴℳ

  • rutgersjaffo

Not compatible with the Note 2?! Are you f-ing kidding me?!

  • Gamblor77

It’s only available in the US. LAME! Canada actually has chip and pin for debit/visa AND tap to pay but yet we’re screwed for Google wallet because our government is over paranoid on security? WTF?

  • Paul Hansen

Anyone tried to change the build.prop to the Sprint or US Cell Moto X on the VZW moto devices to see if it’ll allow tap to pay?

  • Jason Kahn

100% Tap and play support from the link above, that on a Stock Verizon Galaxy Nexus No Root, no ROM

    • Fawzi94

      really?

      • Jason Kahn

Yup confirmed it at the Duane Reade down the block.

        • aQuickBit

please don’t taunt me like this. Really, it works on Verizon? I want to believe….

          • Jason Kahn

You still can’t update from the store. I had originally set it up using a backed up APK from my NEXUS 7 and use it all the time. I updated to this latest version using the link in the post above, walked down to the Duane reade and bought two VItamin waters. Tapped the phone to the reader the pin code popped up, entered my pin tapped it again and the purchase went through.

          • aQuickBit

Well it’s off to Sheetz for me to see if this works. May be the best gas station hotdogs ever. Will post later to confirm or deny the use with a Verizon HTC One

          • Jason Kahn

I noticed in the About Section it lists Galaxy Nexus release-keys, and at the top, Tap and Pay, Device is ready for purchases.

          • aQuickBit

Yup found that out the hard way about 15 minutes ago…still got hot dogs regardless. I checked out my About Section and it says that “Tap and pay” at the top is “Not available” (despite having an NFC SIM card which Verizon said earlier that you needed). Dammit. Well I will have to do some trickery here to get it working like I did on my GNex (changing build.prop stuff and such things like that). Thanks for the update.

        • Chris

Do you have a bank account or card linked to Wallet? I have a card and don’t have the option for tap and play. I’m attempting to add my bank account and I will see if that fixes it or not.

          • Jason Kahn

I have a bank account, but I used the old version of the App to make purchases before this update. No idea if that makes a difference. I also originally used a backed up APK from My Nexus 7.

          • Chris

That’s weird. When I download the old app it opens and says something like, “This application is not yet supported by your device or carrier”. I’m on a Stock Galaxy S4 on Verizon, by the way. Hopefully adding my bank account will let me use Wallet for payments, but idk. Thanks though!

  • djh36

just installed google wallet and it seems to turn GPS on permanently. Odd. My phone won’t stop using GPS unless I manually turn off GPS to keep apps from using it or restart my phone. Force stopping apps including wallet didn’t do anything…

    • Jason Kahn

Turn off location sharing in the settings, of the wallet app

    • Jason Kahn

Rebooted GPS issue went away, Location setting in Wallet still disabled, too nervous to turn it back on

  • Adam Crawford

I have an HTC One on Verizon, with a secure-element Sim card. Now that I have the app installed, as well as bank accounts setup do you think it will allow NFC payments? I mean, I don’t see why I wouldn’t right? The terminal should still see the phone right?

    • Tim242

Google Wallet uses a secure element, not the NFC SIM.

      • Adam Crawford

Isn’t it a Secure element Sim Card? If you are able to tap to pay on the S4 on verizon than my HTC One should work. It’s the same thing, S4 has a secure element sim. At least that is what I was told at Verizon, when I went to grab the secure element SIM card after the S4 came out they told me no at first stating “That SIM card is for the S4 only.” After some persuasion I was able to obtain it.

        • Tim242

Verizon phones have to have the NFC SIM, to use ISIS. Google Wallet uses a secure element, which is built into phone hardware. They are not interchangeable

          • RaptorOO7

Then why doesn’t Google get with the program and support NFC SIM’s so they can be on more phones in the US.

          • Adam Crawford

I don’t understand why he states what he does here, yet he has tap to pay on his S4 which is essentially the same when it comes to NFC and SE Sim on the Verizon version.

          • Tim242

I use Google Wallet on my Verizon S4. To do this, you haveto be rooted and running an Xposed patch that blocks carrier checking. It uses the phone’s secure element. Verizon has blocked use of GW, because they are pushing ISIS, which uses the ISIS NFC SIM. Each app uses a different method. The only way to use GW, is with some trickery.

          • Adam Crawford

“It uses the phones secure element” your phone does not have it’s own secure element, it has the sim, same as mine. There are multiple people here saying their Verizon phones now work with Tap to pay. I’ve gotten passed SE check on GW with a Droid DNA using the SE Sim, the sim is still seen as a secure element when it comes to checks.

          • Tim242

Secure elements are built into the phone. I do not have an NFC SIM card. Google Wallet uses the secure element in the phone, not the SIM. I know that ISIS won’t work on rooted phones. The only way people get GW to actually work, is with the hacks.

          • Adam Crawford

Actually there are quite a few people here in this comment section saying it is working with their phones without root now.

          • Tim242

Not one person in this thread has said tap to pay works without being rooted. I have seen some that changed the build prop, which requires root. ISIS uses the SIM, GW uses the built in secure element…that is Verizon’s excuse for blocking it.

          • Adam Crawford

God dammit. Sorry I just had my hopes up and was fighting and fighting with you, but you were correct. What a load of crap…

          • Tim242

I know, it sucks : ( I’m just glad there’s a way to make it work when rooted. It isn’t the most useful thing in the world, but dammit, it’s cool and I like it!

          • Adam Crawford

Not for the HTC One =(

It has yet to get it’s bootloader unlocked.. Well unless you pay someone with a Javecard to do it, but I don’t have the spare cash for that or the time to go without my phone…

          • Tim242

Well, the “good” news is that you can use ISIS, as long as you are not rooted. If you are, well I’m just going to go to my local liquor store where I use GW, and have them ship you something to drink your sorrows away Hana. I’m about to probably get the Note 3, and hope for the best.

          • Adam Crawford

I’ll cross my fingers for you. ISIS works, but I’m with a credit union so… its a no go as well.

          • Adam Crawford

a”NFC SE SIM CardA Secure Element (SE) SIM card with additional layers of security to store and protect sensitive data (e.g., credit/debit card numbers, addresses, etc.). This type of SIM card is required to use certain Near Field Communications (NFC) apps like Isis Mobile Wallet™.”

From Verizon’s site. “Use CERTAIN Near Field Communications apps LIKE Isis Mobile Wallet”

I understand you keep calling it an NFC Sim card, IT IS a Secure Element sim. I understand it hasn’t worked in the past with Wallet, but now that we can bypass certain elements of it, there is no reason it shouldn’t work.

          • Guest

          • Ken

I have a DNA. Cab you tell me how you got tap to pay to work with hacks?

          • Tim242

Google has nothing to do with it. Those SIM cards are made for ISIS only.

  • Tim242

Well, I updated the version on my Verizon S4. I hope I can still tap to pay. It says I’m ready.

  • Paul

Works for me! Updated, cleared data/cache, set everything back up and was able to purchase a soda from a vending machine down the hall. (VZW Gnex, Bugless Beast)

    • Skittlez

holy crap, you’re still on 4.1.2?

      • Paul

Yeah… My Nexus 7 is on 4.3. But none of the updates after 4.1 have been compelling enough for me to re-do everything on my phone. I think I’m growing complacent.

Either way, almost guaranteed I’ll move to Shiny 4.4 once it is released.

        • Skittlez

i’m on Shiny 4.3, which is amazing, we just have the radio problem because the 4.2 radios aren’t compatible, so if you switch from 3G to 4G, you have to hit airplane mode and then turn airplane mode off to reconnect, which isn’t SO bad but can be annoying. I do miss 4.1.2 for the battery life. on that ROM (BB) i used to get 17-20 hours of life. i don’t want to leave my Gnex, but battery is just unbearable now

  • WACOMalt

Tap and Pay doesnt work for most phones. Including my new LG G2. :(

    • Adam Crawford

Do you have a Secure element sim? Have you physically tried it or are you assuming based on their supported device page. There are non-supported devices that tap to pay works with, so if you have the SE Sim, I’d give it a shot.

  • xxdesmus

Still can’t install the damn thing on my Galaxy Nexus on Verizon.

    • Menger40

Is that a stock ROM thing? Installing the APK worked fine for me.

      • xxdesmus

I should have clarified — I meant I can’t install it directly via the store. Will try sideloading it now. :)

  • yankeesusa

I wish nfc payments would work on tmobile phones.

  • rslh

I have a rooted GNex. My last version of Wallet used to say something like device not supported. I just downloaded the new .apk and so far, haven’t seen the same message crop up. I’ll need to use the tap n’ pay this afternoon and see what happens…

    • Jay W.

I’m curious to know if that works for you or not. I get that message as well, but have always been able to tap and pay anyway ;)

    • Root

It just says that because of root. You can still use it

    • rslh

Hmm… I just tried it 3 times at McD’s with the new .apk. Didn’t work. It vibrated, shows the Wallet log and then routed me back to the password screen. I don’t need all the new features, so I just uninstalled the update.

    • rslh

UPDATE: I uninstalled the downloaded .apk and just now the OTA update came through. It’s v1.6-R96-v16, and aesthetically it looks exactly the same as the previous version and back with the “Unsupported device. Learn More” message. Fine with me as long as the tap-n-pay works. :-)

      • Stewie

Uh, sorry, that’s the old version still. rooted GNex here, new version is
2.0-R133-v9-RELEASE and no more unsupported message, so far anyways …

        • rslh

Did you try the tap n pay with v2.0? I just did the OTA upgrade and will try it out tomorrow…

    • rslh

The tap-n-pay works on my rooted GNex with the 2.0-R133-v9-RELEASE update.
Su-weeet!! I used it earlier at my local Jack In The Crack!! :-)

  • RoadsterHD1

Do the new Droids or the Moto X have wired HDMI out with some type of cable like MHL?

    • rabidhunter

They do not. However, with Chromecast and Miracast enabled on the devices, it’s not that necessary anymore. Question is, why are you asking this in this thread.

      • addicuss

Are the CM monthly builds based on jellybean?

  • Angry Bob

F Google. They never paid me for the balance on my prepaid card after they cancelled the program. I filled out the paperwork the first day I was allowed. Between that and their pipeline to the Feds, I am slowly unloading all google products. I wanted to switch back to Apple as the final move, but their iPhone still sucks too much and Apple is almost as bad with privacy. Maybe I’ll try, two cans and a string?

    • Happy Alice

      lol.

    • yankeesusa

maybe try windows phone. I understand what your saying though

    • http://www.youtube.com/kimirPORTALS kimir

I had the same issue. I lost over 200 bucks because of that. I’ve filled out so many forms, made many calls, but still nothing.

      • yankeesusa

Really? I would file a complaint with several people and your bank if you lost that much.

        • http://www.youtube.com/kimirPORTALS kimir

I haven’t thought of the bank thing, but I believe I’ve waited too long for that. I’ll see though. Thanks.

    • Shawn Pierce

Let us know how that tin can network works for ya!

      • Angry Bob

My network advertising catch phrase will be “tinCAN you hear me now?”. Get it. I am so angry I am saying stupid sh*t. Don’t blame me, blame google.

        • Shawn Pierce

I will admit you did get me to chuckle over that post.

  • Anthony DeFrancesco

Sadly if your secure element is busted you can’t use the app, at least I can’t on vzw gnex

    • thedonxr

Are you using a stock battery?

      • Anthony DeFrancesco

        yes

  • Chippah

The NFC terminals are constantly broken at just about every store I ever try to use NFC based payments on, with either my phone or paypass enabled debit car.

  • J Dub

Will this still need to be data wiped before flashing a new ROM like the old one?

    • yankeesusa

I would just in case. I had to exchange my note 2 due to bad secure element

  • Daeshaun Griffiths

Do I need anything at target? Does Starbucks do NFC payments? I just wanna test it over VZ

    • Bigwavedave25

      toothpaste and deodorant…

      • Daeshaun Griffiths

What are you trying to say? I think I may buy a kit Kat instead. Might win a n7

        • Justin W

Guessing a reference to your pic

        • Bigwavedave25

Just funin’… seems to be what I buy every time I go in. Oh and Mott’s blueberry applesause, crack for my son.

    • yankeesusa

NFC is not at target or starbucks. Starbucks uses their own app and square also works. As far as nfc goes, all cvs have it, all best buy have it although some have disabled it due an upgrade, all mcdonalds, over 85% of gas stations have it also. burdines has them and I also use it at pollo tropical, even in the drivethru.

One thing I don’t understand. How come they do not show bar code for your store cards? I manually input my CVS and Stop & Shop card but there is no bar code. Just says to show numbers to merchant. Should show bar code like how Key Ring does.

    • Bigwavedave25

Good question! I never have those things with me when I need them… end up just giving them my [linked] phone number.

    • argeebee99

The barcode shows for me. GS4 on Verizon

      • AndroidUser00110001

Did you use camera to enter bar code? I typed it in and no bar code.

        • Steve B

          I used camera.

          • AndroidUser00110001

Strange it does not show if you manually enter in the numbers.

          • AndroidUser00110001

Does the actual picture of bar code show up or a generated bar code shows up?

          • Steve B

It generates its own bar code which is the same one on the card.

        • argeebee99

          Camera

      • Shawn Pourhosseini

im gs4 verizon but it wont work… what area of the US are you and are you rooted?

    • Steve B

Barcodes are showing for everything I’ve input so far.

Starbucks, Giant Supermarket and a couple others.

    • MrWicket

all my barcodes are showing up, what I want is to have proper pictures/icons for my cards vs a colored star..

  • LoganLopez

Installed fine on my Verizon Galaxy Nexus. To bad most places around where i live don’t have it anymore. Most gas stations had them like WAWA, but it is no longer there :(

    • Chippah

or the terminals ARE there, but just stopped working and they dont care..

      • LoganLopez

They were removed. There use to be a sticker on them saying NFC or something like that on the pumps. Even inside the store they had them at check out. Not anymore. I don’t want to be that guy that waves his phone at the check out hoping for something to happen. I am not that brave.

    • yankeesusa

Alot of places that had them got rid of them because instead of switching them out for the secured terminals that use nfc they went with a cheaper unit that doesn’t use them. wawa was one of those places. cvs upgraded theirs and so did some gas stations. Also walgreens has them but they aren’t active.

  • Liquidretro

This is not the tap and pay app we all want. This is basically just to send money to friends right?

    • CHRIS42060

You could also send money to people you have never met….. want my e-mail address?

      • LionStone

        Here’s mine: I’lltakeyourmoneys@thanks.com

    • Adam Crawford

It is the tap pay app, it just depends if your phone supports tap to pay on their list of devices. Though if your phone has a secure element as well as NFC I do not see why it would not work. I’ve used a G-Nex which isn’t a supported device, to tap to pay before. I do not see why current gen phones would be any different. I will test later and let you know.

  • Bigwavedave25

GNex on ShinyROM [VzW]… updated Wallet and it is showing my card and “tap and pay”… :crosses fingers:

    • Blue Sun

Let me know if you get this to work. I’m currently running CM 10.2 on my VZW GNex using Google Wallet 1.6R96 v 16 without issue but would love to upgrade to the latest & greatest.

      • Executor

I just got the update through the Play Store, everything still works fine. I had to hit ‘Set up tap and pay’ at the main screen and hit ‘Next’ a couple of times, but other than that the upgrade was painless, and tap and pay still works. I am also running CM 10.2 on my Verizon GNex.

        • Blue Sun

Thanks for the update on this. I’ve still got my old APK file to fall back on should it not work.

      • Bigwavedave25

Yes. It works… At least at McD’s :-D

    • http://bradjfitz.tumblr.com Brad

I’m running the same set up and I needed to clear the defaults from the app after updating. Once everything was reset it appears to work fine.

      • Bigwavedave25

Glad to hear that works. Luckily mine was good to go w/o the need for this.

    • Smeckle

I also have the VZW GNex on Shiny (9/2/13) and Google Play tells me it’s not compatible :-(

      • Bigwavedave25

installed form D-L link… not the playstore. I’m sure Baldwinguy77 will update the app in the next build if you cant get the sideload working.

      • http://bradjfitz.tumblr.com Brad

Clear the defaulfts in System –> Apps

    • http://www.gizmoninja.com/ Tabe

Hmm, I’m running Shiny on a VZW GNex as well, but no “tap and pay” for me. :(

      • Bigwavedave25

I just installed the apk from the D-L link…
Gives me both options for Wallet Balance or Stored CC’s.

        • http://www.gizmoninja.com/ Tabe

I wonder if it’s because I hadn’t launched Wallet since I flashed Shinyrom?… Maybe I need to run Shiny’s version first, and then install the apk from here.

          • Bigwavedave25

Could be. Mine was already set up prior and all my stored info was available once I entered my PIN.

          • http://www.gizmoninja.com/ Tabe

Yeah, mine had been set up for a while now, but I had never run it on Shinyrom. Had you signed into Shiny prior to installing this new apk?

          • Bigwavedave25

I used wallet about 2 weeks ago, but hadn’t signed into it today before updating. Only thing I did was backup the app with TiBu before installing the download.

Sorry for asking, but did you already have payment cards saved to your Wallet? I don’t see how it would lock you out now, because I know BG77 had it working before. Try going back to the one in the Rom (from a backup app or extracting from the Rom.zip), make sure all is working, then update and see if tap and pay shows up. Worth a shot :)

          • http://www.gizmoninja.com/ Tabe

Yeah, I have cards saved and have used it for NFC payments several times, dating back to around when the GalNex was first released. I just haven’t used it for a while, since I was on AOKP a few months ago. I’ll try going back and see if that does it. Thanks!

          • Bigwavedave25

Maybe this will save some time for you. Extracted old wallet from the 9/02 Rom.zip (1.6-R96-v16)

          • http://www.gizmoninja.com/ Tabe

            Awesome, thanks!

          • http://www.gizmoninja.com/ Tabe

Well, I’m on the new version and don’t get “You’re ready to tap and pay!”, but it does show my balance, card and says “change tap and pay settings” underneath… which it didn’t say before. We’ll see…

          • Bigwavedave25

Cool. Click around and make sure you’ve gone through all the authorizations and setup menus for activation. I think I had two separate “authorizations” to confirm.

  • jeff manning

I’m assuming that’s the moto x in your screen shots. Does it work?

    • John Sanatar

Got it installed on my Moto X, havent tried to purchase anything yet though.

      • jeff manning

Same here, but mine is on Verizon and there is no option for tap to pay. Sucks

        • John Sanatar

I am assuming, with how fast the development community is working on this phone, there will be a workaround at some point or another.

  • Chris

At least google is making a constant design for their apps and NOT requiring (yet) 3rd party apps to do the same. that would be a very apple like move.

Still not found of the light interface. Like the dark better

    • joseph barrientos

      fond ;)

      • Bigwavedave25

easy there. probably just our wonderful auto-correct in full effect… I know mine is set to “very aggressive” ;-)

        • joseph barrientos

          lol, i’m just teasing :)

    • zurginator

There is a Holo dark variant of the updated UI over on the dev guidelines site – but honestly it looks terrible.

  • T4rd

Why does the approved device list that you linked to in the previous article only list 2+ year old phones? Doesn’t seem to be accurate/updated. It also only lists 17 devices and you said 29 in the article. Wrong link?

    • http://www.droid-life.com Kellex B

Google said 29 in their announcement.

      • Ian

I’m kinda angry that the new Nexus 7 (FHD) is not supported due to the lack of secure element. C’mon man!

        • Justin W

IMO, they need to update it so the secure element is not required to use the tap-to-pay portion of the app. Then Vzw will have no choice but to allow it, it would be compatible with 99% of devices, and everyone could use it as long as they have NFC. The only concern would be encryption of the virtual card number, but with as large as Google is, I’m sure they can come up with something for that.

          • Jared Denman

That’s why they bought bump. Dont you think it’s odd they bought bump the day b4 they announced the new wallet?

          • Justin W

But Bump had nothing to do with NFC, so it would require a completely new type of authentication/integration with POS CC machines. Also, the Bump team was supposed to work with the Android Beam team according to a couple of articles.

          • Ian

Google did come up with something, the secure element. It’s simply another piece of hardware that has no effect on a carrier network. Similar to how Verizon disabled the FM tuner hardware in the new HTC one. No reason to disable that feature unless you’re a company that makes money from selling data, very few things use more data than streaming music.

Would I love to see tap to pay working without a secure element…sure. But that doesn’t change the fact that Verizon is still being a douche.

          • Justin W

I agree that they are being douchey about the entire thing, but if it worked without the secure element, then they couldn’t use that as an excuse. Also, I don’t understand why they disabled the FM Radio in their version of the One – it works just fine on many other versions of the One, there’s no reason it would cause “security issues” for their network.

I’ve determined Verizon’s executive branch is made up of a bunch of dumbasses.

  • Jason Blomgren

And it works for Verizon! Galaxy s4 stock with no issue!

    • Shane Redman

      You paid for something already?

      • http://www.droid-life.com Kellex B

Probably can’t pay for anything, can just install and use the other features.

        • Shane Redman
        • Jason Blomgren

That will suck if you can’t tap and pay.

        • Tim242

I have the Xposed Framework patch that works fine for NFC payments on my Verizon S4. I think I’ll just leave it be for now.

        • Mark Duenas

I’ve been using the Isis wallet for a while now (tap and pay works fine). Going to try this with my Moto Droid Razr Maxx HD. I have a secure SIM. Hopefully the NFC works for this phone even though it’s not listed. Google owns Moto so I’m crossing my fingers!

          • Mark Duenas

Aw! I’m going to uninstall. Tap and pay ‘Not Available’ in my wallet about. Back to Isis for now.

    • Open1Your1Eyes0

Google Wallet was always installable at stock for Verizon Galaxy S4, just couldn’t use it back then because NFC payments were the only option. Not anymore however. If you go in About section of that app it will say “Tap and Pay” not available.

      • AndroidUser00110001

Change your build.prop device info to match the S4 GE build.prop device info and tap to pay shows up as option. I have not purchased anything yet but now have tap to pay option.

        • Open1Your1Eyes0

Is this in addition to the Xposed and Modoco mods I have posted here or just at stock with no mods and just build.prop edit?

          http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2303325

          • AndroidUser00110001

I am running CM 10.2 with stock build.prop I did not have the tap to pay option. I changed the device info to match the GE build.prop and now have option. No other mods but I have not tried tap to pay yet. Tap to pay did work for me with previous wallet version so it should work now too.

            No other mods…

          • Hooterman

I just tried it on a TW-based rom and the Tap to Pay option still said unavailable. :(

          • Jeff Creemer

What did you change your build.prop lines to? I’ve tried it and haven’t had any luck, yet.

    • Michael Hreha

You won’t be able to tap and pay. It’s useless… S4 not supported for tap and pay…

  • Shane Redman

    *crosses fingers for Verizon use*

    • addicuss

      NOPE

  • JZ

Was that first image a subtle hint that we can now wire Droid-Life all of our money?

    • http://www.droid-life.com Kellex B

      Maybe. :P

  • Tom Luley

OMG I CANT WAIT FOR ISIS WALLET!!!!

    /s

    • JamesU513

I know that was a joke, but Its already available I think

      • rabidhunter

But only useful if you have Chase or Amex, otherwise, don’t even bother.

        • RaptorOO7

Which means its for rich people only so why bother. Great product implementation Verizon.

    • Steve B

      Said no one ever.

    • Itzdacooldude

I have isis nothing special at all they only let you use select credit cards.
