Kit Kat Embraces Android 4.4 Naming, Posts Silly Spoof Video

Nestle and the Kit Kat team seem to be embracing their newly announced partnership with Google quite well, taking to the web and social networks with passion and excitement for Android 4.4. Kit Kat posted a silly video to its YouTube page today, treating the popular candy bar as if it was the world’s greatest smartphone. Yes, quite funny.

And if you plan on heading into your local convenient store sometime soon, keep your eyes peeled for some specially-designed Kit Kat wrappers that could score you a free Nexus 7 or Google Play credit. More info on the sweeptstakes can be found on the Kit Kat site by following the via link down below.

  • Vetinary

sad.. an Android mascot that looks as if its made of dog poo.. I really liked Android – until now

  • Wyveryx

“There’s a Kit Kat for that.” favorite part of the whole video 🙂

  • dsignori

    Pretty cool . Nice

  • wmsco1

Give me a break,Give me a break, Break me off a piece of that kick kat bar….Lol….DON’T BREAK IT!

  • On the tablet, the clock says, “11:11”, could that be the release date!?! November 11th?

    • Droidzilla

      Hypebeasting: you’re doing it right.

  • Intellectua1

    Loved it…

  • SmokeNMirrors

Just don’t start gnawing on your phone!

  • Mei

“With two mega bites, four mega bites, or a chunky bite option, no matter what kind of break you are looking for, we got it covered.”

I cracked up at the “megabyte” reference.

  • this is actually pretty funny

  • Brenden Keene

Break me off a piece of that

  • Ian Smith

that’s hilarious – i hope that’s a fake british accent because it is perfectly terrible in a mocking type of way.

  • Cory_S

Watching this made me hungry…so I went to our company vending machines to find out we dont have kit kats ….so I got a twix instead. I think I’m having buyers remorse. The form factor is all wrong. I could get one at another vending machine… but then it wouldnt be subsidized by my company.

    • JediPirateNinja

Personally, I don’t like candy bar phones…they’re so uncomfortable to hold.

      • FritoDorito

        What’s this about phones now?

    • FritoDorito

Ew, Twix? I can’t believe you bought a crappy mid-range candy bar! Kit-Kat is far superior. Specs-wise, it has 4 bars, compared to Twix’s two. Not to mention Twix’s bars are at war with each other. I say call your company’s customer service and threaten to leave them for a new company if they won’t let you trade in your candy bar.

      • Cory_S

You’re completely right. I think I’m going to pay the early termination fee to break my contract and move on to a company which isn’t for twix fanboys.

  • OneForTheGoodDays

Oh man, I’d totally count myself in….. but that bezel, and that unit is a fingerprint magnet!

    • FritoDorito

Who cares if it’s a fingerprint magnet? People are just gonna throw a plastic wrapper on it anyways.

  • mikewilson1021

Well the video got me! I literally had to pause mid video to run out of my office and grab a Kit-Kat!

  • speraider430

Must be $1.99 off contract or GTFO

    • trixnkix637

And come in wood wrapping. No exclusivity. I’m going to get the white chocolate version.

      • michael arazan

I keep my kitkat in an Aluminum case with extra boom sound to hear the Krunch

  • trixnkix637

To clear up the confusion… Nestle makes Kit Kat’s globally… Hershey makes Kit Kat’s here in the States (via license from Nestle). Stop the trolling.. Everyone is technically right.

    • FritoDorito

I don’t think I like that everyone gets to be right. I feel like there should be a winner as well as a bunch of losers who get cast into the pit of eternal damnation.

  • chaoslimits

2Megabite, 4 Megabite? Those aren’t current gen specs.

    • trixnkix637

Everyone will complain about how 79 cents is too much to pay for last years specs lol

  • sighmoreupdates

nice STILL got 4.1 on my HTC DNA ……………. thanks verizon

    • LionStone

No worries, in a few weeks we’ll have 4.3

  • kirk ngo

Never thought it would be maned after a chocolate.

  • bkosh84

Hershey makes the Kit Kat Bar Tim. Might wanna correct the article. lol

    • GentlemanScholar

      Nestle makes Kit Kat overseas.

  • me

The real question is, What device will Android 4.4 debut on?

    • harrisondisc

      Are you serious?

  • trixnkix637

That is quite simply one of the most inventive commercials I think I’ve seen involving cross branding. Kudos to Google & Hershey.

    • Zach B.

      Uh… Nestle?

      • trixnkix637

        In the US it’s Hershey.

        • Zach B.

“Google has announced that the upcoming version of its Android mobile operating system will be called KitKat, licensing the name from Nestle”

It’s Nestle. Hershey licenses the KitKat name from Nestle in the US only.
Nestle still owns the name, which they are letting Google use.

Kudos the Google and Nestle. Not Hershey.

          • trixnkix637

Whatever floats your boat man. It’s not that deep.

      • Evan Knofsky

Hershey makes KitKats in the US

        • Zach B.

          Yes, I know. Keep reading…

In case you don’t keep reading… I’ll repeat myself:

“Google has announced that the upcoming version of its Android mobile operating system will be called KitKat, licensing the name from Nestle”

It’s Nestle. Hershey licenses the KitKat name from Nestle in the US only.

Nestle still owns the name, which they are letting Google use.

      • dvschnk

yeah, but in the US…its made by hershey…nestle was too lazy to manufacture it themselves…so they licensed it…like google to oems, which makes it perfect for android

  • StuckOnVerizonForever

time to go steal, i mean buy kit kat bars.

  • Mike Hilal

I will be mailing kit kat wrappers to cupertino.

  • Bionicman

This is brilliant. Kudos to Google for this partnership. The book of android needs to be read by all!

    • Jarred

      • The Phenom

  • “Compatible with all liquid accessories.” Sounds good to me, almost thought I’d have to find a new drink to go with my new KitKat. We all know how much of a pain that is..

  • I wonder if we’ll get this promotion in the US, since Kit Kat’s are made by Hershy over here.

    • woops, should’ve checked the linl.. since it was to the Hershey’s website… YAY!

  • kreach

Ummmm…HERSHEY makes KitKat, not Nestle…Great spoof but not made by the KitKat people.

    • Mike

Nestle licenses KitKat to Hershey. Look it up.

    • King Lo

Nestle produces KitKat internationally and owns the trademark. In the US Hershey produces KitKat and licenses the name from Nestle.

  • ImmaDroid

Kit-Kat is my fav candy anyway, so either way im diggin it! Ya dig

  • dcc_tech

Typical Kit Kat peddling their last-gen confectionaries and selling them at current-gen prices. Where’s the peanut butter, caramel, or nougat? I’m totally waiting for the rumored Moreos to come out so I can get rid of this old box of Oreos I’ve been holding on to the past 2 years.

    • TSY87

your comedic-genius almost went over my head. *applaud*

      • myrna652

My Uncle Max just got a nice 9 month old Jaguar XF Sedan only from working part-time off a pc… resource www.JAM20.com

    • Raven

Unlike in phones, I actually prefer Kit Kat White over the original dark, so that is a nice confectionery option for all of the white phone lovers around here.

      • Just_Some_Nobody

  • RaptorOO7

I actually like the spoof CrApple one’s better, they really get going!

  • Daeshaun Griffiths

I love this more and more with every passing second. ” Confectionery perfectionery ” lmao.

  • zepfloyd

Shockingly there’s no money exchange for sponsoring of sorts.

“This is not a money-changing-hands kind of deal,” John Lagerling, director of Android global partnerships, told the BBC.”

    • StuckOnVerizonForever

yeah because kit kat is already going to make bank off the marketing.

    • FritoDorito

It’s a mutually beneficial sponsorship. Kit-Kat gets love from Android fans, and Android gets public marketing through candy bars. This whole idea is absolutely genius.

  • Stuff

This whole ordeal is very meta. They took on-device advertising to the next level: the OS is an advertisement! Next they are going to rid of the Nexus line and rename the actual devices after sponsors:
“Presenting the all-new Google Pepsi Tide S300 running Android Snickers 6.1 Evolution X! Sponsored by Carl’s Junior”

    • Weber

      • Stuff

        Tough crowd

        • SchwannyT

Sorry dude I thought that was damn funny. I almost shot Dr. Pepper ™ out my nose when I read it

    • Justin W

Non-Meta – Google’s never done anything like this before, and I’m very interested to see where it goes. Besides that, no money is being exchanged here – http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-23926938, so the whole “I’ll pay you to advertise my product on your OS” thing just flew out the window. Both benefit from the “sponsorship” in different ways, but it serves the overall Android purpose, IMO.

    • kixofmyg0t

You forgot to add MAXX at the end.

  • Rechie

    That’s so cheesy… Err I meant, chocolatey!

  • WCM3

If that isn’t the Jonathan Ive of Kit Kat, I don’t know who is…lol

  • MichaelFranz

i think there were some subtle hints at new OS features.

plus it seemed like a stab at apple in some of it

    • Eric

The whole video was a stab at apple. lol

  • Droid Ronin

    Because I have a golden ticket…

    • gabravo2005

But daddy I want an oompa loompa NOW!

  • Al-Burrit0

Android is making me bias. I think Kit-Kat is my new favorite chocolate Lol! XD

    • Stuff

That’s too bad, they could have picked from a myriad of other Actually Good chocolate confections

      • Curtis

        …for example?

        • Stuff

Nestle is not exactly top-shelf chocolate. Yeah, Kit Kat is a fun candy, but even something as common as Ghirardelli or Lindt is going to be times better in actual chocolate.

          Just chocolate-snobbing around.

          • Good_Ole_Pinocchio

Only if those started with a K.

          • Curtis

I want names bro! There is at least one very compelling reason they went with Kit-Kat.

          • Justin W

Wild guess here: It begins with the letter “K”.

          • Curtis

“Tell him what he’s won Johnny!”

          • “As everybody finds it difficult to stay away from chocolate, we decided to name the next version of Android after one of our favorite chocolate treats, Kitkat®!”

          • Adam Truelove

Kit Kat is VERY well known and extremely popular. You can’t have a successful marketing tie in and if tie one really well known product with a snobbish relatively unknown product.

      • speraider430

That also start with the letter k?

  • Dan

  • Cody Revels

I like how his title is CBO- Chief Break Officer.

  • Razgriz417

    That was pretty amazing

  • Jroc869, Nexus-Life

give me a break guys. that was pretty good I must admit.

    • JoshGroff

      *sigh* upvote…

  • NexusPhan69

This is all just so weird. I just don’t get it.

  • Ryan Phelos

    I really want a Kit Kat now…

    • Stuff

      Nice, so it’s working!

  • Shamu

that was actually pretty great…kinda a jab at apple in a way too

    • MikeCiggy

      Definitely a jab at apple

      • StuckOnVerizonForever

Job’s is rolling in his grave knowing when he died, they became useless.

    • socarwolverine

A little nod at VZW too.

      • Shamu

yeah i saw that too…at least kitkat has a good sense of humor

    • speraider430

I saw the Jony Ive parody myself. Pretty clever, especially when they gush over the thickness of the device.

  • Matthew DiGiacomo
