Download: Android 4.3 “JWR66Y” OTA Updates Roll Out (Nexus 4, 7, 10, and Galaxy Nexus)

 JWR66Y

Update links for Nexus devices are beginning to pop up, so if waiting for Google to push the OTA to Android 4.3 JWR66Y out to you doesn’t sound exciting, then help yourself to these. Currently, zip files are only available for the Nexus 7 HSPA+ and Galaxy Nexus “yakju,” but we will update the post as more hit the web.

Download Links (JWR66Y):

Nexus 4 | Nexus 7 WiFi | Nexus 7 HSPA+Galaxy Nexus (“yakju”) | Galaxy Nexus (“takju”) | Nexus 10

*Note:  In order to update with these files, you need to be running stock Android 4.3 (JWR66V).

To update with these files, you have a couple of options:

  1. If you are stock, non-rooted – You can use the “adb sideload” command and make magic happen without root or a custom recovery. We have an entire guide to walk you through this method. It may take a minute to get the Android SDK setup, but that’s something you should have anyway if you own a Nexus.
  2. If you are stock, non-rooted and hate adb sideload – The “adb sideload” command can be a bit finicky, so another way is to use a custom recovery and then flash the OTA file through there. You have two recoveries to choose from:  TWRP or ClockworkMod. You can find a guide for flashing a custom recovery through adb here.
  3. If you are stock, rooted, with custom recovery – You can essentially flash the OTA zip files in recovery and update.

Is there any Android 4.3 OS for non-Nexus devices? Thanks

  • http://thedaneshproject.com Danesh

if the install fails, this might help. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=45058881

Anyone else having issues installing this rooted on stock 4.3?

I’m getting an error each time.

    • anthony909

Yes I am also having this issue. I was rooted and running a custom recovery, I flashed the stock recovery and tried to update OTA and I keep getting an error with an Android guy with it. Did you every solve your problem?

  • ScottO

JWR66Y kills GPS entirely on the GNex

  • hannoverfisst

My Nexus 7 says JWR66V, not JWR66Y. Is that a typo or what? I did just get another notification about a 4.3 update that’s 1.7mb. Haven’t installed it as I don’t want to lose my root.

My VZW Galaxy Nexus has not yet received any update beyond 4.2.2 yet. It sounds like a couple people have 4.3 on their VZW devices but I’m not sure if those are rom hacks or OTA updated/

  • Leonardo Souza

This update dont install on rooted nexus 4.

  • Brian Funk

are you able to keep root if you flash this ??

  • M3D1T8R

Just got it pushed to my N7.

  • Robert Willis

Now I know Verizon isn’t going to release 4.3 for the GNex anytime soon but I was still excited to click on this DL article. You never know. Oh wait, yes we do.

  • hooligan

I’m not chomping at the bit to update by any means, but I haven’t seen anyone give any details what this small update even does.

  • JoshGroff

Can’t you jump into the bootloader and manually flash by partition with the extracted files?

  • CasperTFG

In anticipation of the N10 update link drop, anyone know where I can find the driver for SDK? The download data is unavailable on Samsung’s site.

  • Liquidretro

Does this fix the screen lag, and GPS issues in the 2013 Nexus 7?

    • http://randomphantasmagoria.com/ Shawn

The 2013 Nexus 7 won’t be getting this update. It’s running on a newer branch of 4.3 (JSS15J > JWR66Y). This is only for the N4, N10, 2012 N7 and the Galaxy Nexus.

      • Debashis Hira

JSS15J>>JWR66Y? WHAT ABOUT JWR66V? Which one is the latest. I just flashed the stock 4.3 ROM JWR66V on my GNex GSM and now they rolled out JWR66Y. THE NEXUS FACTORY IMAGES BY GOOGLE DIDN’T SPECIFY ANY. did anyone flashed and what are the changes?

        • http://randomphantasmagoria.com/ Shawn

JSS15J is the absolute latest verison of Android available, but as a production ROM, it’s only available on the 2013 Nexus 7. The 4.3 build for all other Nexus devices was based off the earlier JWR66 branch.

In AOSP build numbers, everything from the 3rd letter onward is what you care about. R66 means the 66th day Q2 2012. S15 means the 15th day of Q3 2012. So, S15J > R66V/Y.

        Famous last words. :-)

  • Jeremy Martin

Whats that Verizon? Oh sure I don’t mind waiting.

Sprint is with Verizon off playing jerk monkeys in the other room.

      • Gloriaortiz326

Layla. you think Willie`s c0mment is really cool… I just purchased a great new Lotus Elan from bringing in $8137 this-past/5 weeks and just over $10 thousand this past-month. this is certainly my favourite-job Ive ever done. I actually started four months/ago and almost immediately made over $71… per-hour. I follow the details here,, http://www.Bay35.com

      • michael arazan

What happened to all the updates from Verizon, can we only expect ithem in the first quarter of every year now? I knew verizon wouldn’t be able to keep it together to keep putting out updates in a timely manner

  • wh1te_mag1c

Meh, I’ve been running Shiny’s 4.3 Rom on my Galaxy Nexus for maybe a week now. Works perfectly on my VZW GNex. It also has made the phone way more responsive.

    • RedXander

Likewise but I’ve been running it for a few months. The 2100 mAh framework he has listed is nice too.

      • John Galt

Really? I can’t pull data on 3G still. The handoffs from 4G to 3G just don’t work, at least for me. I had to flash back to 4.2.2.

        • ToddAwesome

Hell, I have 3G/4G handoff issues on my stock GNex!

        • Tirionfive

According to the developer of shiny tom (baldwindguy77) the APN timing in AOSP changed from 5 to 20 and the Verizon binaries won’t let him change some settings or something like that, so until Verizon gets a phone update with 4.3, the hand-off will be a little wonky as well as MMS.

          Paraphrasing here.

          • John Galt

Yeah, I read something to that effect on the page. I plan on waiting until Verizon updates a phone to 4.3 (or until I get tired of VZW’s horrid 4G service in Chicago), which sucks, because I can tell that the developer puts a ton of time on the ROM and is really proud of the effort he puts into it. It got better on the 8/19 version, as compared to the 8/13 version, but I stared at my phone for 5 minutes waiting for a data connection on 3G.

    • Lee Sandy

Is this build number : JSS15J? That’s what my build number says on my VZW GNex. I’m actually trying to get back to stock and researching on how the hell to do that. Help anyone?

      • Nayners

Don’t go back to stock. You won’t be getting a OTA update for some time. Sorry, dude. VZW sucks.

        • Lee Sandy

Very true. Maybe I won’t go back now. Just re-checked NFL app and I was able to use it. A couple weeks back I tried to run the NFL app and it gave me a message saying that I was running an un-recognized ROM and that it wouldn’t work on my device like that…now you at least understand why I was even thinking about going back. Looks to be working now so they must have fixed something in the build!

          • FknTwizted

they finally updated the nfl app to allow root… apparently there was a significant amount of pressure from the root community to do this… my thinking is why cut them out your just limiting your paying customer base.

          • Lee Sandy

Aha but check THIS out! http://www.cnbc.com/id/100977669 Time to stream NFL Sunday Ticket on my Chromecast. HECK YES!!

      • Tirionfive

JWR66V build is much more stable than that one. JSS15J build was an improvement over 4.2.2 but it’s not that Great. You can flash back to stock using the nexus development page images. Flash thru adb. Or for the super lazy like me, use nexus root toolkit. I’m on my phone, so I can’t provide links.

        • wh1te_mag1c

I’m also running JWR66V. This is where I got the links for the ROM for: http://rootzwiki.com/topic/36706-romaosp4381913-shiny-ota-like-stock-android-43-jwr66v-no-bugs/.

          • Lee Sandy

NFL app working good for you on there?

          • EdubE24

            Okay that made me laugh…

          • Lee Sandy

            how so

          • Lee Sandy

oh I just looked at your past comments. nvm. yea the NFL App works fine for me, is not janky, etc. I don’t have cable, nor do I pay for Sunday Ticket. Wanna laugh REALLY hard at me? Go ahead. Yes, I do sometimes watch NFL football games on my phone and I’m A-OK and I’ve never owned an Apple product in my life…

          • EdubE24

Dude do you need a tissue???

          • Lee Sandy

yea I definitely need a psychological evaluation after meeting you on here and reading over your past comments. you are one of this sites most epic trolls it would seem. I definitely am thankful I don’t waste the time you do on sites reviewing an OS version you despise.

          • EdubE24

I guess you didn’t investigate hard enough. I actually own android devices. Oh well, go see the Doc, hope it helps!!

          • FknTwizted

just wish you could hook your phone up to the tv and watch the game with the nfl app… bastards block that.

      • LANCE

Nexus Toolkit, it will flash the stock image http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1400871

    • Matt

This, exactly – its a noticeable improvement.

  • http://randomphantasmagoria.com/ Shawn

ZOMG. When will I get the update on my LG Lucid?!?!

    • FknTwizted

      when you purchase another phone.

    • Simon Belmont

They could have at least put Android 4.1 on the LG Lucid as the hardware could easily handle it. It would have made it a more fluid phone.

The major issue with it, though, was the battery life. Absolutely atrocious.

  • KleenDroid

    Amazing
