Here are the First Two Moto X Commercials

Screen Shot 2013-08-01 at 3.23.56 PM

Rumors of a $500 million marketing budget for the Moto X have still not been confirmed, but we should all expect Motorola to put this phone in our faces as much as they can. This is the first phone inspired by their new Google leadership – it’s their baby, if you will. To kick off the marketing craze that will certainly accompany this phone up and through launch, we have two commercials.

The first is called “Quick Draw,” which highlights the phone’s quick gesture shortcut to the camera. The second spot is called “Always Ready,” and shows the phone’s hands-free features. Customization of the Moto X is also a big part of each spot.

Quick Draw

Always Ready

  • n11

I like the ads, simple and straight to the point. I wish Rogers had the customization options though.

  • solstice1221

“OK Google Now…Show me the Nexus 5.”

  • Liderc

They really need to lose this whole “look at the bright colors everybody!” it’s just so pointless. The majority of people use cases (although I don’t) and no one cares lol, really the majority couldn’t care less to have a light green color on their backplate.

  • joe

I like the size of the phone…. But ya no Ext SD bites. I don’t want a huge phone.. I love my GNex but it doesn’t get very good reception at all… I tried an S4 for a week or too it was great just to big for my elf hands wanna be able to use a phone one handed lol.

  • dunning-kruger

There is a part of me that thinks there are many in the Android ‘community’ (is that a thing?) that fear that Android could become the OS on inferior software that ‘just works.’ I think some heads might explode if that happens. I kind of hope it does; it’d bring attention to my latest pop-psychology concept of the Coke/Pepsification of binary choices.

  • Evan Relf

I hate the music on the first commercial.

  • Chris Ryan

I’ll just wait for a little bit and buy one off Craigslist for some owner who doesn’t want theirs. It’s got some good technologies, I’m just not willing to spend a full $600 when it comes out… maybe $400 and I’ll be good. My GNex is good until then… although with all the Android iterations it seems to be slowing down more and more.

  • Rene Barba

Pretty much sums up right now on how i fell about the Moto X.

  • BOB Dudek

500 mill ?..! ….and we cant find the technology to include a SD slot?

WTF are these people thinking? …
“Buy our cool new Moto X ..so you can buy fair traded coffee and go back to sleep easier!”…

WERE not all lazy ass pseudo- hipsters that need a overpriced digital nanny to exist !

    • No SD slot is a choice that Google made long ago. See the Nexus devices.

      • calculatorwatch

Yep this has become the main schism between me and Google’s way of thinking. I’d be happy to stream all my music from their servers if Verizon (and pretty much every other carrier) wasn’t trying to charge me a fortune to do so. As consumers we’re told to vote with our wallets and I feel compelled to vote for an SD card.

      • turdbogls

this isn’t a nexus device. this is a motorola device.

        • Ok… and who owns Motorola? You think maybe Google might have a little influence in whether they put an SD slot on the device or not?

The point of my response is that it has nothing to do with “find(ing) the technology to include an SD slot” and everything to do with Google’s push to eliminate SD in order to drive people to their cloud.

          • turdbogls

IMO, it has very little to do with driving people to cloud storage. Google came out and said they dont use SD’s because it is confusing to the typical user. sure, we can figure it out pretty easy, but its much easier for ALL data to be in one place making it easier for the typical user to understand. I personally LOVE not using SD cards….love it. and as long as i have unlimited data and at least 16GB internal, i am a happy camper.

also, SD card slots take up space….its not much, but they might have had to add a couple millimeters to the thickness to stuff one in there.

          • Agreed. I shouldn’t have said “everything to do with…” above, as the points you make are definitely considerations that Google mentioned.

          • turdbogls

holy crap, did 2 people agree over something on the internet….unheard of 😉

    • Rene Barba

Just download a cloud storage app.

      • Kurtlon

Cloud storage app for 40gb of music? Eh, no thanks. I’ll stick with the Galaxy line until Samsung becomes stupid enough to follow suit with Google. I’ve never understood that decision, never will.

        • turdbogls

i think you are in a minority. 40GB is a TON of music. I have no actual data to back this up, but i would assume the average consumer has less than 5GB of music on their device.

  • Here’s a suggestion, Motorola: Take that $500 million, put it back in the damn bank, and lower the cost of the stupid phone. Become the viral hit of the internet instead with a $99 phone and no marketing.

    • Jordan

I suggested that in a previous discussion. People are more attracted to lower prices than the way you present or advertise it on tv. I’m ashamed of Moto. I’m from Texas, and this whole Texas factory idea apparently is NOT working out

      • Huh?

Uh, what? If that were true then no one in the world would have an iPhone and Samsung wouldn’t have 30 minute long commercials.

        • calculatorwatch

Hit the nail on the head there. Whether people here like it or not, what Moto is doing is smart. Apple sells tons of phones just by adding a few interesting features and then convincing people they’re the best most revolutionary things ever conceived of. To the kind of people here who don’t fall for that crap it’s a pretty hard sell though.

        • turdbogls

yup, people are going to see that they can get a purple and pink phone and be all over it….however, i still think they should have started the phone at $100 instead of $200. Its a sweet phone, but it just can’t compete with the S4 and HTC One.

    • KleenDroid

They just came out with the Chromecast. It is a huge hit and sold out very quickly.

Yes it is awesome and all but it didn’t sell out because it cost a few hundred like the Q.

It is selling like crazy and being talked about by everyone because it is $35 and awesome.

      • Just to be clear, you are… agreeing with me, right? 🙂

  • Phillies3429

All they had to do was make it $299 off contract and they would have sold like hotcakes…now barely anyone cares.

  • “OK Google Now, price the Moto X as a mid-range device.”

  • Jeff C

now what do we have to look forward to?

  • Guest

Pretty much sums up how i fell about the moto x right now.

  • Morbid138

  • bobd1950

So after all the breathless hype..by too many..
..This old girl is looking better and better ….especially after every new MOTO launch..

  • Chief738

Nicest thing is 50 gb on drive but it’s not event part of the phone

    • Justin W

Wait, you get 50Gb on Drive with this? Awesome. I’ve already gotten quite a bit of lifetime storage from other sources (Box’s 50Gb for the Nexus 4 purchase and 25Gb for Dropbox’s mobile phone activation or w/e it was), but I’ll throw this in too…

  • Phillies3429

    Ok Google Now…change the price

Too smart they don’t have a
better Market analyst / adviser ! They should have known that people
nowadays are surrounded with more advance technology. Well I hope your
right that the Playstore edition would be cheaper than what will be sold
      under those alligators.

  • The music in the first one was pretty boss! They’re definitely starting to find what excites tech users to buy new products!

    • UpdatesFromHTCAreAJoke

Oldie bike seats and jean button-ups… I don’t know

  • Jackson
  • Jackson
  • EC8CH

So I guess now we have to hope Verizon carries the next Nexus 4?

*closes eyes and listens to the laughter in his own head*

  • Jackson

All the Nexus 4 owners can just port that google now feature and the notifications and camera and we now have a moto x with a glass back and upgraded processor and lasored in diamond cut shineys on the back

  • richkoos

Is it me or is the dubstep a little out of place for that picture taking one?

ohhh taking a nice quick picture with the flick of my wrist WUB WUB WUB WUB WUBWUBW

    • UpdatesFromHTCAreAJoke

Maybe they are trying to demonstrate image stabilization? 😉

  • Daeshaun Griffiths

    LOOK! No hands.

  • Ryan B

It’s a beautiful phone. I love the camera app having the 100% transparent navbar. I would like to have this, but I feel like I’ve already had this.

  • DanWazz

“Ok Google Now, make my heart stop hurting.”

  • trixnkix637

From this day forward Kellex should be known as the Destroyer of Days for the disappointment he unwittingly unleashed today.

    • michael arazan

Hope Kellex sends Motorola his travel bills, because he should of saved his money and stayed at home

  • Torrey Shelton

This phone is DOA with a price tag like that, Literally every feature this phone has can be ported… Im sticking with my Galaxy S4 and wait for the Always on Voice port.

    • MKader17

Good luck porting 2 hardware cores…

      • Torrey Shelton

We dont need to port the hardware cores. Thats just there to make the phone more efficient as those extra “cores” are there to do one specific job… The Galaxy S4’s regular quadcore CPU already does the job that these extra hardware crap that moto introduce in their new CPU.. They dont even need to be emulated honestly as this is all software…

        • guest

im sure none of the features will get ported to existing phones ..its very hard to get them to work without plummeting your battery. You might an app that emulates but that would take a toll on the battery life, rendering the functions useless as would turn them of ..An ya s4 doesnt already do that because it is quadcore, the two new cores Motorola added are non arm and low power cores, so they wont drain that muich battery and the two main cpu’s arm cpu;s on galaxy s4.

  • sc4fpse

How about a commercial showing the Google Play version and that price? Because none of this stuff matters, and I think we’re just delaying the inevitable *complete* disappointment at this point.

  • Geo

Wow how unique! It’s the only phone that can do…. wait…..

  • Hatyrei

it’s a nice phone, but $199 with 2 year contract and 2012 is’h phone specs. What a joke! They should replace those executives with younger people with more common sense.

    • legaceez

Nah seems like they already have people smart enough to know specs aren’t everything.

Hopefully pricing off contract is better though. Keep in mind Nexus 4 was still going for $200 on T-Mobile with contract and like $650 off contract when you could have just gotten it off the Play Store for $300.

I know it’s what people love to do but let’s not jump the gun just yet.

      • Hatyrei

Too smart they don’t have a better Market analyst / adviser ! They should have known that people nowadays are surrounded with more advance technology. Well I hope your right that the Playstore edition would be cheaper than what will be sold under those alligators.

        • legaceez

My guess is once people start using it and noticing that it isn’t any slower than the S4, HTC One, or future S800 chip phones in every day use; the skeptics that just look at specs will come around.

Keep in mind the iPhone never had top of the line specs but the user experience was so fluid that it didn’t matter. You have to look beyond the marginal specs sometimes and target a user experience.

          • Hatyrei

Keep in mind, Motorola isn’t as popular as Apple. Even if they go in Apple route, who’s losing smartphone market traction; Moto won’t win/gain much audience.

“Marketing shouldn’t be like growing behind your competitors shadow. But to innovate and to step in the spotlight”. 😛

I hope for the best for Motorola. I love the Motorola RAZR V3 back then. 🙂

          • legaceez

Yup I agree I hope they do succeed.

True that they aren’t as desirable or ever the market lead in the smart phone world like Apple was so they did need to do something to differentiate themselves. It’s certainly a risk to play it so safe. I just think in the end people are overreacting and they will do just fine even with slightly outdated specs. The majority of phone buyers won’t know what a processor is even. It’s hard sometimes to come to terms with the fact that us techies are the minority.

You certainly have a valid point but sometimes following a proven formula is safer than innovation for the sake of innovation and it seems to be the way Motorola is going.

Anyways I’m rambling but thanks for the first civil response. It’s rare on these forums.

  • Razma

Stop teasing me about what I can’t have.
You guys should have posted the price at the end of the day, now I have nothing to look forward to…

  • bkosh84

500 million dollars for that? (Yes, I know there will be more.. Just trolling a little, lol)

  • guest

    Do. Not. Want.

  • It takes pictures AND has an alarm clock?!?!?!? Awesome!

  • Curtis

There was an audible sigh heard around the nation by everyone following droid-life as soon as Kellex posted actual Moto X infos.

    • creed

Motorola’s new slogan… “Motorola, the new HTC”

  • EC8CH

At least you can say that now that you know. We don’t have to wonder anymore.

    • UpdatesFromHTCAreAJoke

All these sad feels I am feeling 🙁

  • BigWormBigPerm

If this is “their baby” then this is another reason I’m Pro-Choice

    • jon

      You are a horrible person.

      • deadpenguins

That was amazing. Jesus loves him.

        • James_75

          Prove it.

          • Jesus

            I love him

      • Brandon Golway

Why because (s)he believes in abortion? Maybe you’re a horrible person for not believing it in. Ever think that?

        • Cowboydroid

He’s a horrible person for not believing it’s right to kill fetuses on a whim?

          • John Parrino

Clearly you are all horrible people, but no one gets an abortion on a whim.

          • Cowboydroid

Oh, is that so? Women don’t get abortions just because they don’t want a baby to take care of? Only the raped and life-threatened pregnant mothers get abortions?

        • creed

Yes, they’re a horrible person for not wanting to kill a baby

          • I downvoted all of you til Golway because you all are talking about abortion on an Android blog.

            Come on.

  • Warwick

*** Moto X. Designed by yo…. we mean ATT Customers.

    • EatUrCrap

I try to not be mad about it because I’m just gonna put a case on the back anyways lol.

      • Jeff C

read somewhere they offer a clear case to “show off your creation”

        • Philip A. Kaiser

What I would love would be a completely transparent body. No color at all. That’s the droid I am looking for.

          • Justin W

Reminds me of older Gameboys (color and Advanced version). That would be sweet.

        • Aardvark99

Last transparent case I had turned yellow in less than a year.

          • Chris Ryan

You must live in Arizona, like I do lol

    • NexusMan

Actually, Verizon just announced they will have Moto Maker customization later this year. And Moto has already said the AT&T exclusive is just a limited launch thing.
