NVIDIA SHIELD Launch Now Scheduled For July 31

NVIDIA SHIELD

Yesterday afternoon, NVIDIA reached out to folks that pre-ordered SHIELD, explaining that they have a brand new launch date for the Tegra 4-powered device. Due to a hardware-related issue discovered in the last stage of the company’s quality assurance tests, the SHIELD launch was pushed back from its original launch date of June 27 and is now scheduled for July 31

Here is the brief note sent out to those that pre-ordered.

We want to thank you for your patience and for sticking with us through the shipment delay of your SHIELD. We have great news to share with you – your SHIELD will ship on July 31st.

Our goal has always been to ship the perfect product, so we made sure we submitted SHIELD to the most rigorous mechanical testing and quality assurance standards in the industry. We built SHIELD because we love playing games, and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

To sort of make up for the delay, it appears that NVIDIA is throwing in a free SHIELD t-shirt for those that pre-order the device. Free t-shirts never hurt, right?

I ordered one and here’s my reasoning:

I was going to buy a new tablet (the new N7, most likely) to replace my aging N7 (1st gen). But most of what I do on the N7 is gaming and some light browsing/email. So for maybe $40 – 50 more than what it appears the 32gb N7(2nd gen) is going to be, I’m getting a more powerful unit designed for what I’ll do most on it that still has the functionality of the device it will be replacing. I own a *lot* of android games and I have 7 series Nvidia graphics cards in my PC so I’m excited to do the game streaming as well.

At the time, I thought it was going to be out before the 2nd N7, but it appears they’ll both be out about the same time. Regardless, for me, it seemed like a no brainer…

maybe a ROM pull for other devices could save this from being totally dead.

i disagree with the doa comments…i think this is an interesting product n prob a solid implementation for what they were going for…solid lil gaming device that offers something nintendo and sony dont in the handheld market….but i think it is priced far to high to justify its purchase…plus its not bad looking…and free t-shirt!

    • mustbepbs

So you don’t think it’ll be DOA, but you also think it’s priced to high to justify the purchase?

      Hypocritical much?

      • athom07

That isn’t even an example of hypocrisy. He thinks there is a market for it, but that the price is to high for him to buy one for himself.

        • mustbepbs

Notice how he didn’t say it was too high for HIM to justify the purchase, just that the price was too high to justify its purchase.

I’m not one to assume someone meant something completely different from what they said.

          • athom07

So you assume he is speaking for every potential customer out there? Yeah, that makes sense. I don’t even care honestly

          • mustbepbs

I assumed he meant that the price was too high to justify the purchase in his OPINION. And that he also said he didn’t agree with the DOA comments. Put those together and you have:

            hypocrisy.

        • chris420o

thank you for having a brain…maybe people take theirs for granted it seems

      • punkroyale

        DOA

  • Joshua Bailey

It is a shame but this thing is DOA. Wish it was $99. I would probably pick it up for emulators.

    • punkroyale

DOA for sure but still doesn’t stop DL from posting and posting about it.

      • Joshua Bailey

Have to. It’s an Android device. It is pretty cool, but just not worth that $$$

    • El_Big_CHRIS

You’re probably right. There is a small market for this, and with their dealys, it only keeps alianating them. Even @ $200 I still wouldn’t buy it.

  • Shaunwin

Free T-shirt!!! Speaking of T-shirts, any plans for DL to be releasing new apparel?
