All New Google+ for Android Available – Communities, Photosphere Viewer, Full-size Photo Backups, and More

The newest version of Google+ for Android is now available on Google Play. The update is one of the biggest in recent memory in that it introduces Communities to mobile, allows users to view Photosphere photos, brings in a list of new Event features, supports full resolution photo uploads (and 5GB of storage), supports animated GIFs, unwraps a new “mood” expression option, and lets you add the Google+ widget to your lock screen (Android 4.2+).

Again, it’s a massive upgrade. We have the full list of new features below, but if you want the explanation on some of the new stuff in events, be sure to hit up the source link.

  • New feature: Google+ Communities
  • Support for full resolution photo uploads via Instant Upload
  • Subscribe to any circle for notifications
  • Support for time zones in Events
  • Basic profile editing
  • Integration with Google Now to send birthday wishes to friends
  • Support for animated GIFs
  • Express your mood via animated images in posts

I really love Google+ for many reasons! Mostly because my feed doesn’t have all the stupid crap found on fb. I love photography and there are so many great photography sites and photographers to follow on G+! I’m ready to crapbook altogether!

  • Hahaha, Google+

Good to see all of you Android fanbois have your own social network to use hahahahahahahahahaha, just kidding, nobody uses Google+

    • Good to see you finally got a maps application that finally works from the android fanboys dumb ass;)

      • Hahaha, Android

Nice try, Apple Maps has never had any issues in the extensive driving tests I’ve tried with it. Want to give it another go, you Android loving manchild?

        • YEah I guess you would’nt be using it much seeing as how you’re always in your moms basement on your iPhone us real adults in the real world find all the problems.

  • how much space to we get on the photo uploads? what is that tied to?

    • ry.d

You get unlimited space with low res photos and 5gb of full res, although more can be purchased.

Photosphere = win. Can’t wait for more devices to get it.

  • They knew they had to one-up Facebook again. {{-_-}}

Is it wrong that I’m most excited about the animated gifs? Seems to be pulling images that are linked much faster now as well.

  • Still no pages in menu!!!!!!

  • Guest345

It’s out on iOS, their app feels slightly better. Pull to refresh, messenger shows right up on the menu, while on Android I have to tap MORE to get to messenger. What gives? The Nexus screen is plenty big to expand the menu. At least I can see full photos in messenger now on Android.

  • It’s showing up as an available update in the Play Store’s “My Apps” list but when clicking on it, there is no update option. Anyone else getting this?

    • Booyah

Hit “back” and then tap it again. Might have to do it a few times. Happens on my GNex every once in a while but eventually works.

      • The Race To Die

dont understand why it does this from time to time. annoying, but not the end of the world

I guess I need to start getting more acquainted with Google+ – I’ve played with it a little bit, but haven’t really used it.

Be sure to follow interesting people or websites, just as you would on twitter. That’s when it comes to life.

      • Droidzilla

With Communities, this is now even more poignant than before.

  • DigitalEnforcer

  • Nexus_FrEak

Google+ is easily becoming my go to social media app… For news… I just cant get anyone I’m close to to make the jump. Although there is no denying that they have a VERY polished UI. Can’t wait for it to take off!

Anybody else getting the “This item is not compatible with your device” error?

  • KleenDroid

  • MikeSaver

How do I use my pages with the app?

    • Sign out and sign in again :/

  • Can I just say I do not care for the childish icons on the bottom…

    • KleenDroid

Reminds me of my favorite show “Teletubbies”.

    • snowblind64

      No soup for G+?

    • SchwannyT

They look lame but you know its because people said “How do you write a post (cause I only recognize FB icons)? You know if it has a pencil icon, and the word WRITE on it and you can’t hide it, they are looking for the lowest common denominator….
