Verizon Releases the First HTC DROID DNA Commercial, It’s as Robotic as You Would Expect

Verizon goes Ironmanbionictotalrecalluniversalsoldierrobotic in this first HTC DROID DNA spot.

  • Chaos Surfer

This commercial is based on some computer animation done a while ago on what is refered to as transgenesis. There are men in this world who would upgrade humanity at the loss of their humanity. They are supposedly already doing this and those with “Morgellons” would say the project it’s a failure so far. Although some can supposedly put their hands in boiling water without getting burned, being tortured when you refuse to comply with the masters would be a bad trade off. This commercial is just more propaganda. We’re all screwed if we don’t stand up and quit going along with it all. I’m just about to head for th Amazon myself. I’m hoping the herbs growing there will be enough to stave this off.

  • Brent Cooper

This has to be one of the worst commercials I can remember…ever

  • bos

    What an obnoxious ad

  • svonavja

    What a stupid commercial

  • zepfloyd

  • RaptorOO7

I saw the commercial this morning, and while it was interesting to watch and the average consumer would be sucked in I knew two things. It has less than 10GB of actual storage capacity with no expansion AND a non removable battery so get the Galaxy Note 2 instead. I know the 1080p display is nice, sure but if you don’t have any storage what good is it.

  • goodbyebb

Wow…this has to be the worst tech commercial ever. Why do they have to make Android phones look so robotic? I don’t think the general consumer cares. Verizon should take some advice from Google (Nexus 7 commercials are great because they pertain to actual life).

  • Tim Lawlor

Why don’t the manufactures just make a commercial? It would take the focus off of the carrier and put more on their handset. Win, Win.

    • Diablo81588

      Very expensive.

    • They do, this phone is a verizon phone though, so it get a verizon commercial and the international version has not being released yet.

    • Geoff Johnson

HTC can’t afford to make commercials when their phone is only on one carrier.

  • Q

hahahahahah.. I love it.. they just keep on with this stuff.. hahahah DROOOOOOOID

  • bigillz

The whole “Droid” marketing has been aimed at super nerd/geeks. They’re not doing themselves any favors whatsoever. You can market to a broader audience without your phone being pink or white, and more than super comic book nerds buy phones. The whole Droid campaign has been terrible from the start. I DON’T CARE ABOUT ROBOTS AND I DON’T WANT TO BE ONE.

  • &rew

I upgraded myself, but I lost unlimited data:(

  • mcdonsco

For all of those saying how stupid this commercial is.. can I ask one thing?

    What commercials AREN’T stupid?

    Not defending Verizon, just sayin’

    • Greyhame

      NFL play 60 commercials.
      DVR is full commercials.
      …………OTHER commericals. =]

Ok, most are. But these are especially bad because they do nothing to promote the phone, and are worse than apple’s poorest effort.

    • Google’s. The Nexus 7 commercials are great. The Chrome commercials are great. Google is taking an approach where they portray the device as a part of every day life, something you use to better connect your human interactions. They aren’t advertising them as some cheesy Iron man commercial. So just go take a look at the commercials Google is producing themselves.

  • NexusMan

I don’t think the commercial itself as as stupid as some, however, it DOES have one of the dumbest taglines ever: “It’s not an upgrade to your phone. It’s an upgrade to yourself.”

  • Dain Laguna

yet another droid commercial that tells us nothing of how it benefits us as consumers. granted, this is as dumb as verizons choice for the name of this device. so i guess it ties in well there.

the motorola droid commercials talking about all day battery life and how that benefits folks were a million times better

    • NexusMan

Not so much, as those in the past…at least this tells us it has “4G LTE,” a “quad core processor,” and predictive search with Google Now.

  • Geo

well I give it to them, they make their commercials interesting

  • JermaineFerrell

Im loving it!!!!!! Miss these cool commercials. It has a wow factor and everyone I talk to knows a Droid Phone from the commercials and wants one.

  • nsnsmj

Horrible commercial, but I am surprised to see a Google product mentioned (Google Now).

  • So they’re saying I’m stupid?

    • EC8CH

      Yes… proof: Share Everything Plans

  • kuboo99

Well, the last line is kind of catchy, but also kind of creepy. “It’s not an upgrade to your phone, it’s an upgrade to yourself.”

  • If Verizon would just show the original first look video it would be a MILLION times better!

Original First Look Video : http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=R512phD0it4

    • Trect

Awesome clip but too long for a commercial

    • epps720

That was a million times better. They could easily cut that down into either 1 or 2 commercials. I would buy the DNA after that commercial.

  • Jon

    wow…so dumb.

  • Destroythanet

16GB storage with no microSD = dealbreaker

    • Geoff Johnson

      Shut up already.

  • trophynuts

funny how everyone always jokes on Apple’s commercials. Works both ways huh people.

  • trophynuts

these commercials are getting stupid. I can’t believe they didn’t blow anything up with it this time.

  • Tirionfive

To all the people bitching about how corny this commercial is, at least it is a commercial, unlike how the Rezound and Gnex on verizon never got a commercial made by Verizon. Only ones from the manufacturer, which quite sucked.

    • PowerofPicture

Verizon did have a commercial for the Rezound. Studio World. Quite cool.

      • Tirionfive

Did they? I guess I never saw it. Doesn’t surprise me though, Verizon is too busy sucking off Moto and their RAZR line to even notice other phones.

I hope Samsung sticks it to them and says they can’t have the GS4 unless Samsung is in charge…. Samsung has enough power, because EVERYONE wanted the GS2 on Verizon, but Verizon missed it’s chance. GS3 sales for Verizon were insane.

    • steevka

Gnex had a commercial, it was just very google+ oriented and easily forgettable.

  • droidbeat

Cool! Love these Droid DNA ads. I upgraded myself. 🙂

  • polioman

That’s pretty stupid. What happened to Droid’s old marketing team?

    • Dain Laguna

you mean the ones before the motrola battery life ones? they are back.

  • skinja99

Jesus, normal consumers just need to know this phone has a 1080p screen. Just say “1080p Screen” and people will buy it,

    • Inquizitor

Just like how they never bothered saying 720p screen or HD screen for the Rezound and the Galaxy Nexus. Verizon seems just as determined to have all of their other phones fail as they are to shove Razrs down our throats forever.

      • The Rezound was hands down the best device I have owned if only it wasn’t for HTC’s fail of an ICS update which ruined it all! Now I’m stuck on the Droid Razr with its whopping 4 hour battery life AND a camera that makes my old enV2’s camera look like a DSLR!

      • EC8CH

Number one reason NOT to buy a RAZR… VZW wants you to.

    • EraserXIV

If normal consumers knew this 5″ screen has the same amount of pixels as the 55″ TV in their living room, a lot of people would be interested on the “wow” factor alone. Drive home the fact that it blows any Apple “retina display” out of the water in terms of pixel density and they could possibly get some people to turn heads. I’m pretty sure people would want to see the screen for themselves the next time they walked past a Verizon store.

But hey, what do I know… I’m not on the Verizon marketing team so it must be a bad idea.

      • michael arazan

Personally i’d pass on the screen for the functionality, battery and memory of the Note 2

        • LionStone

Personally those three things are negligible… I’d rather have a smaller form factor with the best screen on the market, way nicer build, wireless charging, for $100. less than the pen holder, gimmicks I won’t use and storage and battery I don’t need.

    • Greyhame

      Dumbest. Commercial. Ever.

      • epps720

        Extacly what I thought.

It’s an amazing phone but you would never know any of that. You’re telling me this phone has 4G LTE…so does virtually every other Verizon phone. And Google now…most people would have no clue what that is.

        • Dontwanttobeadroid

Agreed-Dumbest.Commercial.Ever. The phone may be great but that awful commercial has discouraged me from even considering buying it. I don’t need a phone that is an upgrade to myself: I am fine. I want a phone that works well and has good features.

  • guest

    Super Cheesy

  • Rob

an upgrade to yourself?? WOAAHHH. I’m sold noww….. not

  • Dan

Jesus, these are the lamest commercials i’ve ever seen. Switch it up Verizon!

  • paul_cus

It’s an upgrade to yourself…ok, Verizon.

  • nightscout13

2010 had good DROID commercials. This one was a complete FAIL. somehow a quad core is supposed to fuse with your brain and make you smarter? really? FUKN STUPID

  • RoadsterHD1

    I like it…

  • Travis Shepherd

    Doesn’t even make sense @verizon #fail

    • Tirionfive

      This isn’t twitter. GTFO.

      • Travis Shepherd

Haha, “if you use hash tags on droid-life you’re gonna have a bad time.”

    • azndan4

      Twitter is gay as hell
