Google Posts Android 4.1.2 JZO54K Factory Images for Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 7

Google just posted the new factory images of Android 4.1.2 build JZO54K for the Galaxy Nexus (“takju”) and the Nexus 7. If you own either device, be sure to grab the files for safe keeping. You never know when you may need to restore your device to 100% stock after tinkering for too long. We have generic instructions for flashing factory image files here.

Download:  Galaxy Nexus (GSM “takju”) | Nexus 7

The binaries for all Nexus devices have also been added – that includes the Verizon Galaxy Nexus (“toro”).

after flashing BB 4.1.2 my galaxy nexus is stuck @ google screen. Did removed battery so many times.

  • Jwhap

Bugless Beast folks For those having issues installing you need to downgrade your recovery to a previous version. The new CWM has bugs.

  • ddevito

Tried installing bugless beast 10-10 build and it bricked my GNex. Not cool

    • Leeroy Waddermelon

Same here… Just sticks at the google screen :(

      • Leeroy Waddermelon

Actually, try flashing directly from recovery instead of from cwm and it should work.

        • ddevito

          yes, this works – cheers

        • Jwhap

Ahhhhh…..I did not see this. You posted a few minutes before I did.

      • ddevito

shut down, power on straight to recovery, then flash.

  • Riz Virani

Lost my root when flashing it on my N7 :l

I was in a rush and wasn’t reading the prompts, but I think it said something about losing my root.. Damn time.

Anyone else having a problem with Bugless Beast 4.1.2 — feels like project butter is gone..? Its not smooth, not elastic, everything is choppy???

    • ddevito

BB 10-10 build bricked my phone

      • Jwhap

Me too. I keep getting a warning and have to restore through backup??? Anyone have ideas???

        • http://twitter.com/JimKohler Jim Kohler

Tried installing BB 10-10 using CWM 5.5.0.4 and it still bricked my phone, so I do not know how to get it installed on my Gnex (toro).

          • Jwhap

Okay…so when it soft bricks, do a battery pull and when you go into recovery menu flash it from there. I was able to get it that way.

    • Cracker Jack

I flashed BB 4.1.2 on my GNEX and had no problems. The reboot did take a very long time to complete. You need to wipe data & cache and then flash the ROM followed by a reboot. Then wait and wait and wait and wait. And wait a little longer followed by a couple more minutes of waiting. Just at the point where you think it’s hung for sure and you are ready to pull the battery STOP!!!! and wait a little longer and TaDa!!! it suddenly completes the boot process.

  • Smilin’ Jack

I’ve got yakju, can I flash this hardware with the takju update?

    • JoshGroff

I don’t think so. I could be wrong though.

  • gorkon

The only factory image for the Galaxy Nexus for 4.1.2 is the GSM version. HOWEVER drivers have been posted for the Verizon GNex. Droid life you might want to make an updaste….

    today’s nightly CM10 build for Toro is 4.1.2 :)

  • Jordan Harvey

Is it weird that I have not received the update on my nexus 7 yet?

    • descendency

Google does staggered rollouts, so you won’t get yours at the same time as everyone else.

      • JoshGroff

I was spamming the check now button, but I think I’m just gonna do the update via fastboot.

  • Big L.

Looks like, AOKP steve spears 4.1.2 is out.. Toro Nexus!

    http://encounterandroid.com/stevespear426/tests/Toro-4.1.2-test.zip

  • dbam987

    {Looks at melted ice cream sandwich on Droid RAZR… sniffles}

  • ddevito

.zip kept bombing on me, turned out to be because I edited my build.prop (won’t be doing that again to say the least). I then tried making my own build.prop – which subsequently bricked my N7 to the point where it wouldn’t boot or even get into recovery. I then quick flashed CWM to restore my latest nandroid backup but it couldn’t read my directories.

So via fastboot I was able to flash the stock image then flash 4.1.2. All is good :)

(BTW – I edited my build.prop to get landscape orientation in 4.1.1 and it’s much smoother and faster in 4.1.2). Love the single finger notification expansions too.

(Oh, and it didn’t brick my nfc chip either – whew.)

    • PhoenixPath

Adamthecashew (AOKP dev) is apparently being driven psycho by the vibration-effect on the one-finger notification expansion…(according to his twitter-feed)

So at least it’s got that going for it. ;-)

  • PhoenixPath

Time to play. Going to try my hand at syncing the AOSP repo and building straight AOSP for Toro tonight.

CM10 and AOKP are easy (they include the drivers/kernel). AOSP has always given me more trouble. New binaries seems a perfect opportunity to have another go at it though.

  • Buckoman

Haven’t received the 4.1.2 update for my N7 yet.

    Was it delayed?

    • JoshGroff

No, it’s rolled out in batches, probably so as not to bog down the server.

It wouldn’t surprise me one bit if the VZ Nexus no longer receives any OTA updates. VZW will put minimal resources into testing a year-old-phone update.

The only real solution for a VZ Nexus is for Google to throw some muscle at them. Still, they are such a large entity(VZ) they likely wouldn’t budge anyway.

    • Jwhap

      ummmm……you wait for Verizon???

      • JoshGroff

I sure as hell don’t, they’re slower than refrigerated molasses.

      • https://plus.google.com/114483312559013915960/ Timoh

        I run AOKP.

    • ddpacino

THIS is why I am getting the next Nexus unlocked. I just want the PURE Nexus Experience, and Verizon is fxcking that up. In addtion to their iffy service in a lot of places near me. I get 2-3 bars of 4G in my apt but struggle to get any 3G just 20 ft away in my parking lot.

I’m aiming for unlocked w/ T-Mobile’s unlimited plans or maybe AT&T if service is that terrible. I’ll need to test both of those out simultaneously. So, Google needs to Bring its ‘A’ game!

      • http://twitter.com/ryocoon Kurtis Whittington

Wow, if you think Verizon’s coverage is bad, I would hate to know what you think of other companies. Maybe it is just your locale, but normally VZW does have the best coverage, even if their business practices are slimy and customer service substandard. (Also, getting a VZW phone unlocked doesn’t do much good in most cases, still CDMA and a specific band, so few carriers to move to. If you meant getting a GSM version, yup, they get updates much faster, but you coverage will probably be even more iffy with T-Mobile or AT&T).

        • ddpacino

I don’t think they are bad — I know so. Sprint has been better from my experience, just slower, but Verizon’s 3G is just as bad, in my locale. I need to pick between the two evils in AT&T and T-Mobile because I need an unlocked Nexus either way.

  • k-wisdom

    takju but no yakju?

  • Daniel Clifford

Is anyone getting the OTA update yet? Curious as to if they delayed it….but guessing not as these are now posted.

    • woks

      why no updates over OTA?

      • Daniel Clifford

I’m not saying that there are no updates OTA. Just saying it seems that a number of people have not received them yet. I’m sure it is nothing serious, just me being impatient!

  • Droid

is there a full posting on what is included in this build?

  • AnotherAndroidKid

    Oh Good God.

Hoping Mr Pete takes some time for himself soon too, but thankful for the work he does.

Bugless Beast is still my favorite.

    • http://profiles.google.com/adamtruelove Adam Truelove

I’m waiting for this as well. I donated to Peter. BB is so good!

      • chanstar

Donated as well. Lets see if he releases it sooner!!

        • Rocketdaddy

Downloading now. Pete deserves a big cash thank you. Heading to that link now.

          • Jwhap

agreed….he got this one out quickly!

    • techie_1

Bugless Beast was nice, but I wanted a bit more customization without losing stability. I switched to Codename Android and I haven’t looked back. I tried XenonHD and Liquid Smooth but they were both glitchy. Codename really is a nice upgrade from BB.

      • PhillipCun

I tried all the good JB roms; CM10, AOKP, CNA, Sorcery, XenonHD, Liquid Smooth, etc.

Although some roms were very close to the stability of BB, BB is still KING in reliability. Some roms seem to start slowing down and such but BB is the KING! Most stable EVER!

But i too am on CNA but I do miss the performance and stability of BB. Thanks Pete! Still going strong since the OG Droid days!

        • techie_1

How’s your battery life on CNA? I feel like mine is better than BB but it’s really hard to know for sure on these things. Everyone always claims that one ROM or another has the best battery life but it’s never scientific.

If Pete starts adding back more of the nice features like notification power toggles, I will gladly switch back.

I like that CNA has just the right amount of hacks. Not so much that it breaks stability and performance. From their site: “we add as many options as possible, but we would rather you miss them when they are gone than be bugged by them being there”

          • JoshGroff

I like my hacks, so I usually stick to AOKP, but I do like me some BB every once in a while. In CNA can you change the colors (I like mine red)/functions of the nav bar buttons? Oh, and do they have that cool battery bar tweak? Notification bar wallpaper? (I think that’s probably the coolest hack ever.)

          • techie_1

Yes, CNA has all of those features you mentioned. the best features pulled in from AOKP and CM10 without the instability.

          • JoshGroff

Sweet, I’ll check it out. :)

        • jeffc

          Same here bro

    • TheDrunkenClam

Forget Bugless Beast… Jelly Belly already added 4.1.2.
      Go get it son. http://rootzwiki.com/topic/28677-rom-jelly-belly-v90-10102012-jelly-bean-412-aosp-its-all-about-the-butter/

      • AnotherAndroidKid

No thanks. Had Jelly Belly briefly before switching to BB. Anyway. I woke up this morning to find 4.1.2 for BB already available.

  • Adam Miller

Is this for VZW Galaxy Nexus?

  • garbagedick

did they add the rotate toggle and rotatable homescreens to phones as well?

  • jeoffrey aurelio

Can we still use wugfresh’s windows app to flash it?

  • http://profiles.google.com/adamtruelove Adam Truelove

    Come on Peter!!! ;)

    EDIT: Hurry up Peter!!! ;)

    • pimfram

      Sounds kinda dirty.

    • Jwhap

      he has it posted now…..btw

      So it appears he came!!!!

      EWWW!

  • p_droid

    toro pls.

    • Hauthisis

      LOL thats a good one.

    • pimfram

We’ll have KLP ROMs before we get this.

    • PhoenixPath

Source-built is going to be the only option for a bit. …but at least we already have the updated binaries, so that should come along quickly (Might even be a few out there already).

      • JoshGroff

BB and Jelly Belly apparently have em out already. Gotta love it. :)

        • PhoenixPath

CM10 nightlies are on 4.1.2 now as well. (…and AOKP, if you sync the repo and built it yourself)
