Jelly Bean Update Rolling Out to Motorola XOOM WiFi Soak Testers

And here it comes, the soak test of Jelly Bean (Android 4.1.1) for the Motorola XOOM WiFi. Assuming all goes well during this test, the update should be pushed to the general public within a week or so. If you can’t wait that long, you can grab the file from Google, today. Instructions for updating through a USB host cable can be found here.

Cheers B!

    Getting an “assert failed: apply_patch_space(10419552)
    E:Error in /tmp/sideload/package.zip
    (status 7)
    Installation aborted”
Any ideas on what might be causing this? Running stock, did not root my Xoom

Same here . . . no idea why!

Need to go over to XDA and read the issues. Seems ICS update 4.0.4 has created an issue with updating this way. The only work around found is to unlock, install a custom recovery (EOS or CWM) for the xoom, and then flash. Very much a PITA! Best bet might be to just wait till rollout. Shouldn’t take long.

no love for the 10.1 tab this is a joke were still on honeycomb!

tutorial not work with stock rom ics 4.04. Has anyone managed to upgrade?

    • SamXp

I had to unlock and instal EOS R6 Recovery to apply update.zip (after renaming the zip to update.zip) and it updated fine!

I’m curious to see if the notifications will cover the whole screen or if it’ll be smaller like the N7. Also how you would access Google Now (realizing you swipe up from the bottom but would it be from the home button or centered).

    • SamXp

It’s about the same size as the notifications in ICS. Some of them are just expanded. And project butter is a heck of an improvement!

do i have to be rooted?

To install an update from the manufacturer?

  • Dee Mann

will this work in the verizon edition if you dont even have a data plan on it?

  • markuz

  • kfath1978

Just venting that the galaxy tab 10,1 4g on verizon will probably never see jellybean. I will s**t tiffany cuff links when/if it gets ICS.

        • OhAaron

Gotcha! Yeah, wi-fi is the way to go for tablets! Good luck!

        • Allen Byrd

I hope that the Verizon G-Tab gets JB now, because that would make a great viral video.

        • Bjtemp

Awesome! A FULL METAL JACKET reference! So cool!

  • kixofmyg0t

Good. Hopfully the devs can work out the kinks in their JB roms from this. My Xoom is running EOS Nightlies and im pretty disappointed with it.

    • nhizzat

What’s disappointing with it? But yes, the soak test roms will definitely help with working out any bugs.

      • kixofmyg0t

For me personally, “Project Butter” turned out to be “delay all actions for 1/4 of asecond”. I dont like the fancy new animations for transitions. Im overclocked to 1.4Ghz with lagfree governer. The only thing that seems smoother is opening the app drawer. The animation itself is smoother than before but their is a delay to everything now. ICS was better IMO. But these are only nightlies so I cant be too hard on judgement yet.

          “hard on” *snicker

  • I can’t wait for Pete Alfonso or some other great developers to port this over to the Verizon Xoom.

  • Can I install this from a custom ROM?

  • That’s great! That means us Xoom Verizon 4G owners should get it around February 2013! #sarcasm

  • RedPandaAlex

Can anyone confirm the USB host method is working without rooting or flashing a custom recovery? Scanning the XDA thread earlier lead me to believe that it wasn’t.

    • Being COMPLETELY stock, I don’t think it does. You at least have to have a custom recovery, which I haven’t tried yet.

    • Billy Bob Thornton

the USB host method is not working. you have to use a custom recovery

      • SecurityNick

If this is the stock file from google, why do you have to be rooted?

    • JS629

You are correct sir stock xoom update.zip otg cable method is not currently working (at least not for me). Now with that said I’m sure its only a matter of time.
