Asus Transformer Pad Infinity TF700 Available at Office Depot?

Did I miss the press release on this one? Last we had heard, Asus was still targeting a July 16 or “later” launch for the Transformer Pad Infinity, but according to Office Depot’s site, you can buy it today for $499. It doesn’t even look like a pre-order. You can walk-through the entire checkout process and have your new Pad Infinity in 3 days thanks to free shipping.

We reviewed the Pad Infinity back in June, calling it a solid product with the best screen of any Android tablet to date. It’s tough to deny that a 1920×1200 display with 224ppi is anything short of beautiful. The Pad Infinity also sports a new Tegra 3 chip that is clocked higher than the T3 we have seen in any other device to date, making this one powerful gaming and media consumption device.

It’ll be interesting to see if this tablet stays available or if we have discovered another “Ooopsie!” moment.

If Asus can use the dock to add additional CPU power and develop a transformer tablet powerful enough to replace notebooks then I’ll be absolutely sold (and probably millions of others). They are heading into the right direction as far as innovation is concerned which is why we’re excited about this. Overall, the TF700 is a nice tablet though there are a few cons mentioned in http://www.squidoo.com/asus-tf700t

I was going to order it just now, but it said “Item 808662 is not available for purchase at this time.”
It worked a second ago… CRAP!

  • Serpico

Ordered mine today. Says expected delivery date of Wednesday July 18th! WOOT!

    • Cody Oss

Was gunna order until I saw 23rd as a date… I think they are a little confused over at the Depot…

    • ordered mine like an hour ago and it says expected delivery date july 17th ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Marko

That is not the Infinity on the HomeDepot site. That is the standard TF700T. There are two models. The one posted has been out for some time. The Infinity is scheduled for release tomorrow, but who knows.

    • Gary

Assuming you mean OFFICEdepot, what is the “standard” model that “has been out for some time” please? Even though the site doesn’t say “Infinity”, the specs seem to match, EXCEPT that now I notice that it describes a “Tegraยฎ 3 T30S” processor rather than the T33. This is cause for concern, since I ordered one last night with delivery confirmed for the 19th, after having an agent check their actual stock. Enlightenment please!!!

    • I just ordered one and it has the model number listed as TF700T-B1-GR which is the Infinity, so I don’t know what you are talking about?

  • Justin

I called Office Depot asking if they had it in stock but the guy I talked to said they did not. He said that it was up on the site for pre-order and that it was prepped to go out in 2 weeks as of last Tuesday (he was not 100% sure on if it was indeed last Tuesday). Hopefully he was mistaken and it’s supposed to come out this coming week.

On a side note, is it confirmed yet if the Prime’s dock is compatible with this tablet?

    • Anandtech confirmed the Prime dock works, yes.

  • Icehunter

It looks like newegg has it too, only as of this posting they’re out of stock. It’s too bad Office Depot doesn’t have the 64 GB in stock.

  • iCrisIntel

the nexus 7 vs this is really hurting my brain. i can keep my samsung laptop and just add a 7 inch tablet or i can sell the laptop for 450 and get this and the dock. anyone who buys the 64 version is dumb ! get the 32 one and the dock. a 32 class 10 sd card is only 19 $ on aamzon ! lool the dock adds 5 hours and productivity to your laptop ! something an ipad will never be able to do. but yea 500$ vs 250$ 32gb nexus 7 is crazy. do you need media or do you need work ? im buying this one i THINK because of the super ips + screen. movies will look much better and when im in class i can take pictures of slides with an 8mp camera which the nexus does not have at all on the back. this is true premium stuff. but if i coudlnt sell my laptop id def add the cheaper nexus to it. but this literally looks like an utlrabook once connected. get imediastream on it and u can now have unlimited content and media on your tv !

Does anyone know when it might get jb?

    • Allen Byrd

Insanely quickly. Did you know that the T-Prime originally shipped with Honeycomb? I certainly didn’t. That’s how fast it was updated.
      Asus is awesome with updates.

  • Allen Byrd

YES!! Been waiting for this since like freaking January. I’m going to pick it out in-store on the 16th though. That’d be more fun. Can’t wait!!!

  • Trevor

Office Depot got mad that they couldn’t sell the Nexus 7 yet, so they were like “F*** it, we’re gonna sell this one instead”

  • notapple

so the keyboard is still an unforgivable $150 extra?

    • droidify

The keyboard is 106 on amazon and has been for months. The additional battery is worth at least half that. Considering a plastic dock for the g-nex is 60, I would consider this a steal.

  • David LaRiviere

I want one so bad, but I’ll wait till it’s on Amazon and I can get free shipping and no taxes.

  • CarpenterNurse

I was so surprised to see it at Office Depot, that I called for a stock check and was told they have 78 in the warehouse – in stock. My local store assured me they could order it for me and have it in about 3 days.

  • TheDrunkenClam

Will there be a big development community for this device? The Asus tablets all have the ability to unlock their bootloaders, right? I looked at the Prime’s development scene on Rootzwiki, and saw maybe one or two stock Roms. Will this be getting Jellybean Roms similar to the Xoom?
Any light shed on this would be greatly appreciated.

    • MKader17

Asus locked the prime, and gave an unlock tool that completely voids the warranty. I own a prime and unfortunately it was riddled with bugs.

      • TheDrunkenClam

It was riddled with bugs? My little brother has the prime and loves it. But isn’t that incentive to unlock it and load your own software on there?
The unlock tool does indeed completely unlock the boot loader right?

        • MKader17

I have one and love it as well but at least every prime had a bad GPS (which Asus did fix) but I had 2 and the first had a screen problem and unknown serial. The second had terrible WiFi so I ended up keeping the first after an RMA. Now I can’t unlock because of something g Asus did with fixing my unknown serial incident. I do hope the Infinity is great but I would wait before buying because it is basically a rehash of the prime and they are still testing firmware constantly to get rid of bugs

  • Tyler Chappell

Doesn’t it suffer from poor I/O performance like the other Transformer tablets?

    • David LaRiviere

I was on XDA yesterday and sources point to yes.

  • I hope this hits Best Buy stores by next Thursday. That’s when my 60 day return policy expires. Will be exchanging the TF300T for this.

    • anonymous

Best buy is able to order it through their in store ordering system. i checked yesterday.

      • Oh really? so I can just do an exchange and get it shipped there?

      • Antonio Wooten

Bestbuy informed me they weren’table to order/ its not showing in their system. Can you share the specific location that gave you this info?

  • Fabri

They dont have it for store pick up. Beside they are charching a tax of $35 when buying. Amazon does not have it yet but wi other tablets/products they dont charge that tax. Is not supposed that the price of $499 is already with taxes?

  • The biggest problem with the Asus Transformer Pad Infinity TF700?

    • ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Pad Infinity TF700. At least it doesn’t have a Prime in there somewhere.

  • Nicholas Sparks

Coupon Code: 595897257 gets you a free $15 gas card at the Office Depot site.

  • Nicholas Sparks

The only thing holding me back is that I want the 64gb. Even ordered a 64gb microSD in advance to ensure I have plenty of storage. Who’s going to be first to offer 64gb? Hopefully Amazon, where I will get a tax-free purchase.

    • Nicholas Sparks

Ordered (Pre-ordered) on B&H Photo Video. 64gb w/ Dock in grey.

    • afy

      Go to newegg.com

  • EvanTheGamer

My dad wants to get the Asus Transformer Pad Infinity, but I am trying to convince him just to save $250 and get a Nexus 7 instead. “Best $250 he’ll ever spend!” I told him.

  • UncleFishbits

I just bought it. I have been dogged, hawklike, hovering over this. I assume it will sell out within a couple hours. I am so thrilled to have found this. THANK YOU.

Here’s a picture of my cute pup Pavlov to show you how happy I am. Yay.

  • Francisco Gaxiola

I was just on their website not even 24 hours ago and tried adding it to my cart, but to no avail. I shall try again now.

    • I got all the way to where I could add my shipping info and it gave me an expected arrival date of 7/17 and then quit. Looks like you can order it.

      • unclefishbits

You can! Yay! I did it!

  • Champion1229

I really want one of these but its hard to decide between the cheaper and more developer friendly Nexus 7!

    • I hear you. Part of me wants to wait for the rumored Nexus 10 but I would like this one and the keyboard doc. Too bad I can’t afford either right now! Then you have a stable of new Nexus phones coming out this fall. need more cash!

      • Champion1229

Im waiting to see what the prices of the prime fall to once this officially releases. Hopefully the prices will fall even lower than what they are now (around $350 on ebay for the tablet and if you get lucky it will have the keyboard dock included) but if I can get the prime for around 200 I would be happy.

    • Mack

The transformer tablets have been receiving AOKP builds so if I had the extra money I would get it but the nexus 7 is half the price and way more for the money. IMO, get a nexus 7 unless you have a need for something bigger.

      • Champion1229

I mainly need something for school work (documents, power points, spreadsheets, calendar, etc. ). However I LOVE to play high end games on Android (Shadowgun, RipTide GP, Shine Runner, Need for Speed, etc.) not to mention my little addiction with watching movies lol

        • Tyler Chappell

well it is certainly more comfortable to play those on a 7″ and the experience isn’t drastically different.

          • Champion1229

but the keyboard dock is a major bonus for the Transformer even tho it cost $150

          • Tyler Chappell

Until overtime, or even just overnight, that keyboard dock ends up causing huge cracks all across your screen. There is an entire XDA thread about it. The dock is more of a liability than and advantage now.

          • Champion1229

I haven’t heard of this problem, I’ll definitely look into it and is it from closing the display down on the keyboard or what?

          • Tyler Chappell

Supposedly, the hinge in some way puts pressure on certain parts of the screen when it is closed down. It apparently creates a bunch of tiny microfractures in the glass that are invisible to the naked eye until abruptly it creates a large fracture that you notice when you wake up one morning. It was mostly happening to people with the TF201, as the TF300 and TF700 haven’t really been out long enough for there to be any cases of it happening. Only time will tell. I’ve been fairly disappointed in Asus’s quality control with their tablets the past 6 months.

          • Champion1229

thanks for telling me this, i honestly had no clue that this was a problem! But at the same time it seems like an easy fix (silicon pads on the dock)! My main thing is that there just isn’t any other android tablet and even the iPad, doesn’t offer this kind of performance and not to mention the dock accessory with an SD card slot, usb slot, full keyboard, trackpad, and charge/sync port.
