Samsung and Google Will Team Up to Fight the Apple Powers That Be

It looks as though Samsung and Google are working on a possible “game plan” to take care of all this new Apple drama. With the recent injunctions by Apple on the Galaxy Nexus to ban sales, Google looks to be stepping in to help Samsung. A Samsung source had this to say on the new developments:

It’s too early to comment on our game plan (with Google) in the legal battle; but we will do our best to get more royalties from Apple, which has benefited from our technology. The fight is becoming more dramatic and the possibility of a truce in the form of a cross-licensing deal, seems to be becoming likely.

Just as expected, Samsung has begun the appeal process on the recent injunction. As the source said, a cross licensing deal will most likely be struck, but who knows when and what it will mean yet for the companies involved. Is Apple starting to fear the Jelly Bean?

What’s the problem with Apple “patent-trolling” every other successful phone out there? They’re trying to make the iPhone the one phone everyone has. You know what happens when Apple controls the markets? First look at Final Cut X and how after they screwed over the editing population they told them to bugger off. Look at the nightmares Lion has been causing. From kernel panics to lag to completely dropping support for Rosetta, it’s practically the Windows Vista of UNIX. And lastly, don’t forget those signal issues with the iPhone 4 that Apple addressed with everything they know about innovation in a nutshell: “use a phone case.”

Imagine if a toilet seat manufacturer was doing the same thing Apple is trying to do. They’d get the government to ban every other make of toilet seat, and then raise their prices while reducing build quality. In the end, you’re stuck falling in the crapper.

It’s not like I’m fathering some sort of conspiracy here, it’s just the way things are. If anyone ever thought twice about what they purchased nowadays they’d realize the new Macbooks are being held together by glue.

So Google is like, hey Apple you wanna be a dick and pick on these dudes? Ever hear of a notification bar?

can we just have a bare-knuckle battle royale instead….

@ NotMyBro – name on thing they copied? Making devices with metal bodies? Using wafers and gold to create circuit boards? Using glass to protect the screen? Using their “own” wireless radios. The ironic thing is apple doesn’t own their radios and licensed it from Samsung. Hmmm. What about patenting/copywriting the term OS. Apparently apple thinks their computers are pcs. PC stands for personal computer, meaning a computer that is personal and used for personal use. Oh wait I forgot apple coined PC with their Power PC line up in the 90s and early 2000s. Oh wait they even wrote 1984. Do the now manage the olympics? Or should I say they produced 2001 a space Odyssey…….

If anyone deserves to have a product banned, it is Apple. Why? They don’t make the screens, they don’t own the radios on their devices (Motorola, Samsung, Nokia, etc do)

I do have to say Apple makes aesthetically pleasing devices, but not anything that is worth the money. 2000 dollars for a laptop that has shitty graphics compared to a ASUS gaming laptop which is a 1000 dollars cheaper which has a faster HDD, better display, a bluray drive, faster processor, more ram, and better video chipset.

What about the Nexus 7? Google and Asus is making virtually no profit of it. Why? Because they care about customers and what customers can afford. But it is 200 bucks and the ipad is 400 (at its cheapest). According to Cnet, PCmag, BGR, and Engadget the Nexus 7 tab out performs the new ipad.

What about macs not having viruses? Oh wait that has been done.

Hmm, I own two pairs of scissors which are different brands. Yet they are oddly familiar. Because devices that perform the same tasks generally look similar retards. Most fanboys of any sort are restarted. Why? Because they don’t bother to research and all that matter is research and experience.

I have both. I had three ipods which all worked decently except for the fact that syncing it to itunes forces the songs to be deleted if the song(s) are no longer in the library.

No sd card expansion? Not removable battery?

My point of all this trolling is to get one of two things around.

    1. That any fanboy is generally retarted (Android, Google, Apple, etc)
    2. That Apple’s basis of suing and having these devices are way off. Its about technology not looks. I mean c’mon, are we in Highschool? Actually I just graduated xD

By the way I did like my ipods, but they all stolen. But guess what, both of my android phones that I have had haven’t, because people are scared of change and don’t want a piece of the action. (OG Droid, Galaxy Nexus bitches!!!!!)”

  • Champion1229

Finally its time for google to strike back! I personally believe google would win in a court room against apple! I mean good lord how can apple defend against accusations of them copying the notification bar? On another note, people saying boycott apple, really! I mean yes they’re mobile products are bad but if you want one BUY ONE! Personally, I love their computers, typing this on my Macbook Pro, the macs just simply work!!! However their phones and iPads DO NOT! There are sooo many limitations on them (my dad owns an iPad and an iPhone and will never buy another because EVERYTHING requires an app and an app costs money!)

Just saw this on endgadget and i had to share it =)
In North Korea the land (iOS) is nice and pleasant on the eyes, but in order to live there (use the iOS), you have to be controlled by the government (Apple). That means that you have to drive the same make and model car (iPhone) or truck (iPad) as everyone else. You can only wear clothes (use apps) that are approved by the government. The citizens of North Korea (iFans) blindly follow their government believing the propaganda that the government is spouting. They believe that the government can do no wrong and is always looking out for their best interest and protecting them. The government would like to abolish all countries (competition) that oppose it.In America, the land (Android) is also beautiful and nice to live in, however the government (Google) gives you more freedom to drive whatever car (Android phone) or truck (Android Tablet) you want as long it is deemed safe for the roads (Google approved). The government allows you to wear (use) whatever clothes (apps) you like as long as you are willing to deal with the consequences of bad fashion (malware). The citizens of America (Fandroids) think the government of Korea (Apple) is too oppressive and should stop trying to attack other countries like South Korea (HTC) and Japan (Samsung) even though their real issue is with America. North Korea knows that it would not be able to defeat America, so it does not even try to attack it. :)

This “joint venture” between Google and Sammy will fail. Do they not understand that Apple doesnt want their money? Apple already has more money that it could ever use. Apple wants Android dead. It’s that simple. They will not negotiate.

    • JazzoRenee

I believe the joint venture would include the hardware that Samsung proves to Apple, other infringements that Google hasn’t has slapped Apple with (notification bar).
You are assuming that Samsung would be the one paying money out. Not to mention Apple DOES care about the money, or they wouldn’t be filing law suits all over the globe to stop Samsung/Google sales.

Let’s just say the injunction goes through and is enforced, we run out of the current US stock of Galaxy Nexi… then say my warrantied and insured Galaxy Nexus were to accidentally fall and break. New gs3 then?

Every dime and minute spent on litigation is money and time that can’t be spent on getting us awesome new Nexus devices or Android 5.0.
Also, in another note, I didn’t pay that much attention in my intellectual propery class, but wouldn’t Apple have to go after all infringers on their patents? That means every phone using whatever stupid notification thing they are hanging their hat on? Because its not just the Galaxy Nexus that has those features, its no the RAZR and RAZR Maxx, Galaxy SIII and any rooted phone running ICS or JB now. That’s a lot of litigation, even for Apple.

    • TheWenger

That just proves that it isn’t really the goal of “defending their IP” bullshit argument they use. It’s just an attempt to screw with the competition and limit consumer choice and satisfaction.

    >> Is Apple starting to fear the Jelly Bean?

They may not, but they should. Just looking at Google Now and Siri. It’s easy to see Apple has lost its sight. Put it this way, when it comes to creating a personal assistant. Google and Apple took two very different approaches. Apple is trying to sell its customers that Siri is as intelligent as a real person. It bents backward to create rules that make Siri sound “human”. Unfortunately, you and I both know that there’s no magic. Technology now simply does not allow us to create a truly intelligent computer. But Apple is trying to sell exactly that. Google, however, took a very different approaches. It tones down the need of voice input/output, instead, Google Now relies on the data you already put into Google’s database, and uses them to predict what you want to know before you even remember to ask for the info — in another words, it forgoes the input altogether, and concentrate on the output, which is totally doable with the current technology. Needless to say, the outcome is pretty dramatic — you just feel less frustrated with Google Now, because it is not a gimmick.

    • http://www.goosio.com/ Adam Siekmann

I agree. I’ve seen comparisons of Siri and GNow, and for some reason people are saying Siri is better because it lets you post Facebook messages from it and some other lame reason. No real mention of GNow just being faster, sounding more human and in my somewhat biased opinion more useful than Siri.

  • http://twitter.com/TheTechChat TheTechChat

A cross-licensing deal is precisely what needs to happen here. It’s simply ridiculous for any company in this industry to assert that every single aspect of their products are unique and that none have borrowed ideas from other products.

Apple seems to forget that Samsung provides them with LCD’s and Processors for many of their iOS products. One general good rule of business is not to piss off the people supplying your operation. When you poke a sleeping bear with a stick repeatedly eventually he wakes up angry and eats you.

Edit: If you want a good laugh go read the comments on the original article. All the Apple fanboys and fangirls are laughably uneducated about how Samsung supplies Apple with hardware. Their uneducated sheepish bias for Apple products is laughable. They also lack the ability to go check the facts that Samsung and Google are dominating the market in handsets sold and Android market share but I guess ignorance is bliss.

      • New_Guy

I was thinking the same thing when I first heard about this. But, knowing that just because I don’t like Apple doesn’t necessarily mean that they’re idiots, it probably means this is more business than personal. I’m sure there are things going on behind the scenes that us common folk will never be privy too, when just a couple of years ago we would never have heard about the injunction either. There is definitely a strategic reason why Apple is biting the hand that feeds them and I’m sure it’s got little to do with Samsung.

But yeah, down with Apple =o!!!

        • 1MPR0BUS

Personally I think Apple lacks the balls to go after Google in a direct manner so they choose their battles with these small patent cases against less powerful companies in effort to bully them into patent licensing fees. In reality Apple doesn’t want a true injunction they just want a licensing fee for their patent so they pigeonhole a company into thinking they have no other choice but to pay them for the patent. I hope Google rolls in with their butt load of corporate lawyers on retainer and crushes them in the court room but we will see.

          • New_Guy

You and I both. Apple has a lot of money but the Goog ain’t exactly pinching pennies. Apple may have inadvertently stepped in it this time.

          • michael arazan

            Time to butt-hurt apple

          • New_Guy

            Haha =)!

      • Stewie

As much as we would like, there would likely be contractual ramifications to Samsung if they stopped or delayed supplies contracted to Apple due to this. Business is business, however they can simply opt out of renewing the contract when up for renewal (this at its most basic).
But Apple has gone too far as of late.

        • New_Guy

Unfortunately, Apple’s products are a significant source of cash flow for Samsung and would likely be a poor business decision to decide not to renew. In short, as long as Apple is profitable, so is Samsung. I think of it as the Comedy Central Roast; people come on that show and get absolutely dogged. But, at the end of the day, they have to pay them. At the end of the day, Apple is paying Samsung all day long no matter what injunction they try and enforce.

          Strictly business…but man I hate them…

          • Monk

In a war everybody lose something, the winner is the one that lose less…
If Samsung want to hurt Apple as a supplier, it will hurt them also. They just need to find a way to lose less than apple.

At the moment nobody except Samsung can produce the iPad retina display and also the iPad CPU is very hard to replace (made in US by Samsung). It could take months until other facility could produce them

          • New_Guy

The problem is that Apple can find another way to produce their product, even if they have to do it themselves; they have the money. Samsung, on the other hand, is not going to find another customer like Apple; not in the next decade or so. I have no doubt that Apple has a contingency plan for Samsung (and might be executing that plan as we speak). Therefore, it’s in the best interest for Samsung to play this out in court and not at the negotiating table.

They are definitely going about this the right way with asking for Google’s assistance.

        • michael arazan

Wouldn’t it be sad if a boat full of apple products sank in the ocean and no one got hurt of coarse.

      • Treknologist

There’s a lot of delusional people over there! LOL

Commenters on the original 9to5mac article! LOL!

      • http://www.ashevilletechnologyservices.com Dan Brown

It sounds like Apple already has a plan to ween themselves from the Samsung dependency and make their own parts… this was all over the Google+ #boycottapple trend that was going on yesterday. Makes me wonder how that will affect Sammy.

        • New_Guy

That makes a lot of sense. They are trying to become more and more independent and it would follow their business model to make everything themselves at some point. But, do they have to end a business deal whilst starting so many fires?

Just plain arrogance is all it is. And how the mighty fall, my friend…

          • Steve Wojciechowski

The sad thing is that apple will say they “enhanced” their products in some way to help justify the increase in price for the components, and the idiots will pay the extra money to keep them afloat. I really wish apple would just fall off the face of the Earth; I’m so sick of hearing about them.

          • MikeKorby

The tech world needs a common enemy, my friend. I don’t mind watching them crash an burn, albeit, the catalyst is taking longer than expected. As far as your ‘enhancement’ statement, one example is with their hard drives. The Apple edition of a Seagate hard drive has one extra connection on it where a single copper cable is attached from the HDD to the case of the iMac. All it does is serve as a sensor (I believe a sensor to [1] make sure the HDD is in all the way and [2] patrol temp management). For the one piece of copper, you pay $300 more for a hard drive.

        • mike

Apple will just contract someone else to make their chipsets. More than likely it will be intel. They’ll also move to Sharp for their LCDs.

The worst part of all this is that ALL of their patents. EVERY LAST ONE is for something that someone else was doing first. They patented “their” technology just so that it would be harder for everyone else to keep beating them at what they think is their own game. If they really were the best, they’d just compete fairly.

          • 1MPR0BUS

To be honest with you I don’t think it will be easy to hire out another contractor. I can almost guarantee that Samsung has the manufacturing process and/or technology patented for the processors and displays. Walking away from that to start from scratch with Intel and Sharp is easier said than done.

        • DanKemple

hardest part is for apple to reprogram and tweak their OS for new hardware. You’ve all seen what it does to Android. You could have a dual core 1ghz processor, 512mb ram, whatever flash and totally different experience based on hardware and software tweaks.
