Ice Cream Sandwich .229 Leaked for the DROID Bionic, Kernel Updated

Attention Bionic owners, another Ice Cream Sandwich build has leaked through Cheesecake. This one is version .299, which has only a confirmed change to the kernel number. With only minor happenings, this is a pretty good sign that we may be finally getting closer to official release. As always, keep on the lookout. If you want to flash, feel free to find the download and instructions at the via.

Cheers Nick, Mike, Chuck, Snake Man, and Bakdroid!

Anyone have issue installing the recent update with a rooted Bionic? Also, anyone know if we’ll lose the root with ICS?

    • techdood22

yes your phone cant be rooted srry

  • Anon

Build .230 is already out. Word is it was leaked from Moto’s QA server.

Downloading this now… Will report back with my findings. I just happened to be ready to flash .229 when I saw this.

  • Bionic

PLEASE PLEASE let it happen soon. And I really really hope that ICS improves on radios. The .905 update makes me lose all signal while im at work and inside a certain movie theatre. Anywhere else im fine. The funny thing is that before the .905 update i had a very strong consistent 3G signal and regularly 2 bars of LTE while at work. So there is no way its a problem with my phone itself.

    Anyone else have an idea?

    • [email protected]

After every update my data got better for a few days and then it would go back to constantly dropping when I’m at work and as of Thursday its happening on .905. I’ve read on forums from people who have flashed ICS that it has fixed their data connection. I sure hope so.

    • Benjamin Parker

I used to deal with a similar thing a lot on 905, but I found Bionic TCP Buffer Tweak can keep my data connection solid. This may not work for you, but you could give it a try as long as you’re rooted. It’s in the Play store.
But I should mention I’m not in a 4G area, so I have no idea how well it’ll work for you.

      • Bionic

yeah im not rooted. i tried the app anyway but didnt work

      • Bionic

I went to my verizon today and they said this is indeed a bad case and they are sending me a replacement Bionic. Hopefully this solves my issues until ICS drops

  • Steve Mellen

Looking good for the Bionics…jones’n for it on my DROID4 though…

  • Lambo_21

I can almost taste it. GIMME GIMME Moto and VZW

    sms function does not work

  • RoadsterHD1

anyone install this version yet? Can you give us benchmarks and whether or not its a 1.2 or 1.0GHz processor clock speed.

  • BlueLetter

and we’ll still have a dozen comments from people claiming that Moto straight up doesn’t give a damn about the Bionic, and they aren’t even working on updating it to ICS.

  • syed

This B.S……I’m pissed because i tipped them of this early last week and i tipped them within a few hours when it was released on droid hive. I’m sure i was the first one who tipped. Either way i love droid life

    • cheezer88

      cheers to you

    • Bionic

      no one cares

“I don’t mean to troll but ….. you still use POP3?”

Than why do it? The silly hat not getting enough attention?

  • Daniel Dlugos

All these leaks do for me is pose the question: “How much longer before the official release?”

Screwin around with pre-release builds is fun, but I need my phone to work every day. I can’t take the risk of bricking the thing.

Anyone remember when the first Razr builds started to show up on the dev servers through cheesecake? That might give us a good baseline as to when this update will be finalized.

      3 months, 2 weeks, 5 days, 7 hours, 22 minutes and 33 seconds.

I had question… Which apps should we disable? I have a few already disabled but would like to know which ones have YOU disabled

  • Seattle

Went from .223 to .229 and had problems with POP3 email.
Went through the process twice, same results.
Went back to .233 and POP3 mail works fine???

Anyone else have email issues with .229?

    • Diablo81588

Have you tried webtop in the new build? It crashes system ui on .2233 :(

      • http://twitter.com/bboyairwreck Eric Chee

webtop works fine. If your system crashes, you can use a 3rd party launcher and it fixes all your problems. It works on my lapdock

        • Diablo81588

I know, I used nova to try it out. I’d rather not use a 3rd party launcher because it’s a waste of ram. You can’t turn off the stock launcher :(

    • Daniel Dlugos

I don’t mean to troll but ….. you still use POP3?

  • RussyJo

Tim-o-tato, there is an inconsistency with your version numbers. The article says .299 but the screen shot/title say .229.

    • Lord_Vader1941

The man’s got Dyslexia, give him a break. One would infer the screen shot is accurate.

      • RussyJo

I too have dyslexia, so I empathize. and yes i also deduced that the screenshot was correct.

      • ACEystole

Actually when it’s numbers, it’s called dyscalcula.

      • Zen

        10 out 3 people do.

  • bakdroid

To add to this, after reading the forum there are still some strange things happening with this. Seems webtop is still crashing in some instances, but not as bad as the first or second leak. There also seems to be an anomaly where some people are getting 1.2 GHz out of the CPU where others are only getting 1.0 GHz. No one is really sure what is going on. Latest theory has to do with hardware rev of the CPU, though that doesn’t seem consistent either. One good thing is it seems battery life has been dramatically improved especially with mobile hotspot. Also there are reports of it running much smoother than the previous leaks.

  • Mapekz

Can anyone provide screenshots of the home screen and app drawer? I’d like to see whether Blur is still so ingrained in the OS.

    • http://profiles.google.com/jeremy.sheehan Jeremy Sheehan

If this is an update similar to the 2 other leaks, blur is pretty much non-existent. The only traces are the motorola apps that are built in and the lock screen.

    • bakdroid

You need to go look at the Razr screen shots. It is almost stock ICS. Well, ICS technically got a lot of its cues and features from Blur, but you get the point.

    • CrewF24

you should look for some screen shots from the razr/maxx as from what I understand, the UI should look very similar. from reviews of those devices ICS, Blur has been toned down and surprisingly nonintrusive.

  • zfly9

So I upgraded from stock to the last one (second release). How do I get to this release? If it’s that FXZ or whatever, how is that done? Please explain in noob terms. THANKS GUYS!

    • http://twitter.com/fox_dye scott lewis

You have to fxz again and if you have questions about that then go to the droidhive or rootzwiki and ask them there you will get all the help you need

    • kixofmyg0t

If you dont know how to FZX then dont worry about doing anything. Goto Rootzwiki or XDA and read everything you can. It would take about 3 paragraphs to explain everything in noobs terms and theirs a 95% chance you would miss a step and screw it up and brick ur Bionic. Dont sweat anything, its just a kernel change. You wont notice anything.
