Updates Available for Facebook, Instagram, Path, Springpad, and Pocket

Some of our favorite applications for Android received updates today, so be sure to head on over to the Play Store and pick up the newest versions. There is not anything too major in any of the updates besides your general bug fixings, but it is always good to have the latest and greatest available. :)

Update:  Sooooo, about that Facebook update. It actually included built-in Messenger capabilities, some UI tweaks, and a new Camera shortcut so that you can shoot video and pics and the upload them directly to FB. Can’t say that I’m all that big of a fan of the added shortcuts into the app drawer. Also, we would assume this means that the stand-alone Messenger app will get the axe? Might as well uninstall it either way or you will have two Messenger apps in there.

Instragram | Facebook | Path | Springpad | Pocket

Cheers everyone who sent this in!

Did this update bring back Facebook contact sync? I’m on GNex stock 4.0.4 (rooted) and didn’t have contact sync listed before. I had to use HaxSync. Now Facebook is listed in my accounts and sync setting.

Be careful if you install the Instagram update. Ever since I installed the Instagram update, if I’m flying through a “List” view of photographs and quickly snapping “like” over and over again, sometimes the Rezound completely locks up. That is, Instagram stops scrolling and about a second later the Rezound stops responding at all. It won’t take calls. The battery charging light won’t come on. I have to take the cover off and the battery out (which sucks because the Rezound boots very slowly (but it does have that quick boot option if you turn it off instead of reboot it)).

This problem has happened twice today. The problem started after the Instagram update.

I’ve noticed you cant use the front facing camera when using the camera shortcut for fb but you can when ur shooting a video

I uninstalled Facebook app today.  It has gotten way too bloated, and the extra shortcuts put me over the edge.

My facebook goes into the very old Android version that was on my OG Droid.  In order to open the new version i have to open the market and select facebook and hit “open” and the new version opens up.  Whats up with that?  Anyone have a fix?

The facebook update was a major update. It came bundled with a new camera and messenger app. Without a way to uninstall these individually, I was forced to uninstall the entire “bundle”. Straw that broke the camel’s back.

They’re just shortcuts to Facebook “activities” — just like you could probably make using a 3rd-party launcher that has “Activities” support. Moreover, if you have a 3rd-party launcher, you can hide the extra links. Other apps (e.g., Google Maps, Google+) throw this extra junk into your app drawer. Why blame FB for doing something everyone else is doing?

facebook update is much bigger than DL and even facebook themselves say

as for the geeks who get real excited when there is a blog entry about facebook for the sole purpose of getting to comment in some way shape or form on how they don’t use or have facebook… it’s always the same idiots too.. WE DONT GIVE A FK

  • Gibsonlp223

Facebook is fast and smooth now! :D

  • Liderc

Anyone else feel like the auto-updates don’t work?  I have to go to the market and look up the app to update.

  • OhAaron

Also, the FB update is major! It totally changes some of the UI elements and adds new icons. For example.. the picture interface is totally designed.

  • OhAaron

Facebook works much better now. Finally, there is no need for a standalone FB Messenger app. I wish they hadn’t added the camera icon, though.

Facebook pos update – read app comments and don’t commit to this trash app until they correct it.

    • Dr_Buttballs

      It’s working fine for me.

Any chance FB fixed anything? Went to FriendCaster a couple weeks ago in frustration and never looked back

  • steve30x

I think you’re missing the “/sarcasm” at the bottom of the post. Otherwise, the world may actually end in 2012…

No it actually does. Not 100% (the side nav bar is still choppy), but the news feed and images seem to be much smoother.

  • LiterofCola

Don’t use any of these….. Meh

    • ABerry5

      don’t care

    • Bionic

Is there a way to get facebook OFF my OG Droid?? I don’t use it and my phone is always saying low on space.  Thanks!

      • tu3218

uninstall it.  Facebook is not an app that is lock in on any phone.  It may possible come preinstalled but you can definitely uninstall it.

If I remember right, Facebook on OG Droid was a system app. You may need to root to completely remove it.

It’s been awhile since my OG days (RIP) and even longer since it was stock, but I’m with you on this

        • http://twitter.com/tassyb7 tassyb

thanks- I’ve always been afraid to “root”- I love my Droid, but I’m not a very good techy (sadly)…I’ve been able to upgrade for a while (got it Nov 09), but haven’t seen a phone that makes me want to change (Nexus, maybe?).  Twitter also take a lot of space, but I do use that app.

I went from og droid to the G-nex, love it!. I still use my og droid as a music player/ alarm clock. I never had or used gingerbread, went from stock froyo to 4.0 ICS, and loving life.
Just used my navi on gnex from St.L to Chicago, worked beautifully. BTW no 4g in the Willis (Sears) Tower, but 4 bars 3g verizon 103 stories in the sky.
I’m thinking of rooting my og droid to try it out before I do so on my gnex, as a test platform to get alfonso gingerbread and try to self teach.
