Toshiba Thrive To Receive Ice Cream Sandwich By End Of Spring, Acer Iconia Begins Receiving Update Now

It may be hard to believe, but there are devices still out there that have not received the update to Ice Cream Sandwich yet. I know, it’s unbelievable. The Toshiba Thrive and the Acer Iconia tablets are just two of the devices on that list. Well, you can now mark off the Iconia tablet, as Acer has begun to push out ICS to the A200 tablet starting last Friday. Congrats, Iconia owners.

As for the Thrive, owners have until the end of Spring to receive it on their devices, so the wait could be a couple more months. Word from Toshiba’s PR Manager is that both the 10.1″ and 7″ variations of the device will receive the Ice Cream love around that time frame. Could be worse – you could own a Thunderbolt.

this is just ridiculous, its july and still no update for the thrive. what the hell is going on. i want my ics.

  • pick a name

    update? there is no ICS??!!!

  • shadowj0

The fact that anyone bought the Iconia (much less any other Acer product) is still surprising. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT???

    [hangs head in shame]

Seems like there hasn’t really been any updates from Sammy on when the Galaxy Tab is supposed to get some ICS love…Hopefully soon!

  • Josh Flowers

wait, wasn’t the Thunderbolt on the list of devices just announced by HTC to receive ICS? so…?

i’m not saying it’s actually gonna get pushed any time soon, but both stories are stating ICS to be released for each device (Thrive & Thunderbolt) so how is it worse to own one or the other?

btw–i own both & am rocking the ICS theme on the Thrive w/ DJSteve’s ROM…realllly want some ICS on it, though

  • Dliuzzo110

“Could own a thunderbolt” ha ha. Gee thanks buddy. Hurtful but oh so true

I finally get an android phone I love and the LTE around here turns into a roller coaster. Up and down. Good thing I’m used to sucky service from VZW so I barely  notice. Hopefully when the project is more refined it will get better, but I think by the time they refine their system it’ll be time for the new technology to be implemented.

And My TF101 waits and waits…maybe I should have kept my Iconia…

I own a T-Bolt and a Thrive. What in the world happened to my beloved device? The Tbolt was the king of ROMs and now its just “EH”

    • Josh Groff

Verizon got a 4G nexus, that’s where the love went. Oh, and the Rezound.

Same thing happened to the Sensation 4G when the Amaze 4G and GS2 Came to t-mo.

Getting ICS on my Thrive would be great, but I’d be happy if it would just update my damn apps from Market!! Damn thing!

  • Raven

Any word on the 7″ Acer A100?

    • Raven

Never mind, I see they are saying in April.  I hope OTA Root Keeper will work for me here.

  • Finally the Thrive is getting some love. Toshiba really should have gotten this out by now as they don’t have much in the way of other Android products that would get a higher priority from their team.

  • Ror1997

im 14 and i know i know what im doing when it comes to tech stuff, so i didnt ask for a iPad cause i tought the a500 was better and 32 gigs was only 380$, but if im not getting ICS on my a500 or thunderbolt im gonna throw one of them at the wall. like really, update your Fudging devices on time, holy crap

    lol fudgin

  • PS

WTF!! Where’s my ICS for the Transformer TF101?

    • Bionicman

yea this really ticks me off. I would have hoped to have ICS on the OG Transformer by now. ugh makes me think twice about getting another Asus android product…

  • mike vallejo

Never buy Moto, they take forever to update anything.

    • MotoRulz

Really? ICS on my wifi Xoom seems to be running fine..

      • Josh Groff

This ^ They may take longer, but there’s usually less bugs (they want to keep the non techies happy too.)

  • Shannon Hoff

So once again, how is that the 4G Moto Xoom doesn’t have ICS yet?  There isn’t even a projected date yet from what I have seen.  I feel like I got taken by Moto with their “upgrade” for 4G that took 9 months to roll out.  Should we expect the same level of service for ICS?

    • justincase_2008

And thats why i put EOS ICS rom on my xoom. Everything works even 4g.

    • shnyda

It’s Verizon not Moto, the Wifi version has been updated for over a month – Come on now

  • QtDL

It’s nice to hear these devices will be getting some ICS love relatively soon. So what the heck is taking Moto so damn long??

  • thesaber2000

Finally the thrive gets some desert!

  • cizzlen

Screw you guys!!!! I’m waiting on my iPhone 10 when it’ll have all the features Ice “Crap” Sandwich will have!!11

    • +1 to you good sir

      • cizzlen

lol wat my comment got removed?

    What about the Acer a500?!

    • ProZomby

Acer has confirmed on Facebook that A500 is getting it by the end of April. I am (impatiently) waiting 🙂

    • There’s a nice ICS rom for the A500, so far it works pretty well except for the camera.

    • There is a leaked official ICS ROM available now at XDA. People saying it’s very solid.
I guess the OTA update is going to happen any time soon.

  • PhillipNorris

SWEEEET my Thrive is getting ICS!!
