European Commission Gives Google-Motorola Acquisition the Thumbs Up

Cross Europe off the list of jurisdictions needing to give the acquisition of Motorola by Google the thumbs up. According to Google’s official blog, the European Commission has cleared the deal and is now just waiting for a “few other” jurisdictions to press “Go.”

The Wall Street Journal reported last week that we could see the acquisition clear the U.S. as early as this week.

  • I have Motorola phone (my 3rd to be honest) & Im very satisfied
with it & their support the best there is & always helping me no
manner how stupid my problem is !!! (They helped with Android since day

Regarding updates , I agree their Update program needs to be fixed ,
but Samsung is far worse when it comes to updating their phones (No
manner what software it runs : Android , Windows Phone or Bada) , but
again almost the entire Motorola flagship phones got GingerBread before
any US Galaxy S device !!!!

P.S. Not all customers need an unlocked bootloader to be satisfied
(You can use Custom ROMS on Motorola phones , some of them were on CM’s
supported devices for a year now)

  • I don’t know all the details but how can apple sue samsung for the voice feature….it was already implemented into the gnex before apple announced siri and android has had that feature for a long time…

    apple is so pathetic.

  • shdowman

Still curious to see how this ends up…

This will do nothing to stop the patent wars though. Honestly, if they all had their way, there would be no mobile technology at all.

I just saw earlier today that Apple is suing Samsung (specifically for the GNex) for how they use speech to text and text to speech. The way Android uses those two isn’t that much similar to Siri. Also I love how they’re only suing Samsung and not Google, because they know Google would probably kick the crap out of them.

    • I think it has to do with Google not making any direct money off Android. They don’t sell it.

    Who needs who more now?

    (Think about that)

Let’s hope Google gives Sanjay Jha a permanent vacation now.

The sooner the better!  get rid of Blur and bring back Stock and no more end of life on phones 6 months after releasing them like they did with the DROID3.

    Google to Apple:
Gentlemen. All your Motorola are belong to us. You have no chance to survive. Make your time.

    What you say!?

    • Perfect.

Ditch Motoblur, ditch pentile, ditch qHD, ditch ugly corners!!!

Stock ICS!, 4″-4.5″ HD displays! Razr Maxx batteries all around!

    • Anonymous

+1 to all of that except Ugly Corners. I loved the way my OG Droid looked.

      • Guesswho

I think he’s referring to the corners on the RAZR

Talking about new Moto device corners

  • ddevito

    Great, congrats Google.

Now go ahead and destroy Apple.

    • Because a Google monopoly over your life is desirable, right?

Ending constant, mutual lawsuits is what you want.  You don’t want to “destroy Apple,” because that’s what keeps Google competitive.

      • Anonymous

        Destroy, no.  Humiliate, yes.

        • Balls

      • ddevito

No, but the patent lawsuits are doing nothing but wasting money and time. It’s also not helping innovation, so as long as Apple continues this nonsense then destroy them.

      • Amen. Create, Don’t Litigate.

        I should trademark that…(irony)

    • PC_Tool

      Why can’t we have both?

      • Anonymous

I wouldn’t mind that, as long as Apple stops all this stupid patent trolling. Sh*ts getting pretty ridiculous.

        • PC_Tool

Shits been “ridiculous” for decades. This is nothing new, we’re just hearing about it more often than we used to….so it *seems* worse than before.
