Google Plus Update Brings Hangout Starting Through Messenger, Other Goodies

The Google+ team teased us with screenshots the other day that showed the ability to start Hangouts from your mobile device. The update to enable that is now live in the market. It also introduced some other goodies like a newly designed album view for photos, , the ability to leave 1-to-1 Messenger conversations, and people suggestions when starting Messenger conversations. Another worthwhile update – now to get people to use it.

Gave it a shot with the wife’s i*hone last night after she installed G+ and….. No Dice.  I could’ve been doing something wrong though.  I would be nice to have a cross platform video chat solution though. I   know there’s Skype and Fring, etc, but I’ve heard some negative things about those.

I can’t seem to see the video hang out option… sad panda for me

  • CJ

I’ve always been behind Google+, but who really wants to “hangout” in a video chat? I mean, besides the small niche of distant relatives, cross-country lovers and porn webcam addicts. I personally have no need for it, as is the case for most all of my friends and acquaintances who cling to Facebook. Sorry Google+, but this isn’t really a feature that people are clamoring to have integrated with their social networking site of choice. Isn’t the entire point of social networking to have limited human interaction?

  • CJ

Seems that Google+ has moved into the social network nursing home, rooming next door to MySpace. Time could be short, so say your goodbyes now. Who knows how long it can limp along? Such a shame to me.

I’m sorry but no one uses Google+

I really really love G+ as a mobile entity, but gosh darn it all, if I can’t convert these people…now I know how Jesus felt

    • Jamaicawind

I feel your pain =( id start using this more if only more people would use it

To create change one must make change.  I think that’s in the bible or some other book I skimmed through.

Wish more people would use this

Can you G+ video chat with those on iPhone?

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_POSZASKSAYXQBTWVCN4GXXNGEI Scott L

Not sure.  My wife has  the i*hone though.  I’ll get her to install G+ on there tonight and try and video chat it up.  I know the IOS version does support video hangouts, I don’t know why it wouldn’t be cross platform.

oh right…didn’t think about that…let me know if that works would ya?

      • Anonymous

Yeah me and the GF tried doing it 2 nights ago, but that was before G+ added video hangout’s apparently! Thought this update went live awhile ago

it appears no…but i think skype would work…i’ve never used skype but might be how we could do it…anybody know?

      • Boardergeoff

skype works, but G+ hangout on iphone doesnt seem to work, which would be nice, because then you can talk to more than one person.

there’s an app called Vtok for iOS – I’m pretty sure it works well for video chatting.

EDIT: disregard, if you’re looking for G+ exclusively then I’m not sure

Just read a google+ post from android…says ios support for video chat coming soon

  • Michael Forte

Too bad it’s so hard to get any of my Facebook friends to switch. I want to like Google+, I really do, it’s just no one is on there except for us Android enthusiasts it seems.

      ditto

    • Michael G

At least it works.  The Fb app still doesn’t work for me.  Didn’t on my OG Droid and doesn’t on my G-Nex since the last few updates.  Keeps force closing on me.

Have you tried downloading an app on the Market called fake GPS to make your facebook app work?

        • Michael G

No I haven’t.  Just been using Friendcaster.  What does Fake GPS do and how does it make fb work?

  • Lakerfan82

for the love of God please integrate messenger and google talk so I can gtalk with my iOS friends…

    • Anonymous

hmmm…is there no way to do that?  my mom is getting the 4s and i would like to be able to video chat

      • J Servin

Have your iOS freinds install GTalk on the iPhone. It works exactly the same and has the video feature too.

When you click on messenger, click on one of your friends chats and you should see a video camera at the top of the screen,

      • Anonymous
