New Facebook For Android Is Confirmed – Revamped UI Is Here To Stay Plus Added Functionality

The Facebook development team has now confirmed the rumored update coming to Android’s Facebook application.  The app will have a completely new user interface, along with better ability to ‘tag’  and edit photos. Navigation of the app will now take place via an option bar along the left side of the screen which should free up plenty of screen real estate for more of your friends’ status updates.  If you’re a hardcore FB user like myself, then we all know that this was completely needed.

Not only will we see a new FB, but the team also says that it will be “faster.” A sexier and faster FB?  We are all for it.  The update should go live “soon“, so keep your eyes on the Android Market.

Very cool. Now all I have to do is meet some people that I don’t want to see slide under a gas truck and taste their own blood so I can actually use FB for something other than testing new UI’s and updates. Ah the lonely life of a misanthrope. Ahhhhh, the lonely life of a misanthrope.

Why do you have to show the app on a GN?  Damn you 😛

  • Maybe they will get the notifications working finally? Only took em like 3 years. I’ve had 3 Android devices and never once have I received at notification for FB.

    • Anonymous

It still doesn’t work. My theory is the verizon network doesn’t work well with stuff like that. My girl has an atrix and she was receiving notifications of stuff I was sending her. My phone on the other hand, droid 3, was still sending me the same msg I already read.

Man I use both the Bionic & the iPhone 4s and android apps ate so far behind iOS apps. iOS had this Facebook for months now and android just now updating to the new UI. same goes for alot of apps. I love android but it have alot of work to do to catch up to the quality of apps compare to iOS ..

  • Anonymous

Yes! I can finally stop using touch.Facebook.com

  • The only thing I care about is if its updated to work with ICS’s people connections, and if it allows higher resolution pictures to be sync’d for contacts.

    • this.

    • Jose Guitian

im pretty sure we have google to blame for that. they want everyone to use google+ instead and i doubt thats gonna happen because ive yet to see why i need google+ in my life

      • No, the people section works with Twitter so if Facebook is willing to do it right Google will have no problem with them.

  • Matt

Funny….first thing I did was take F*c*book off my phone.

This is the UI from facebook from ios… and ios has had it for a while now.

Goes to prove all app developers develop for ios first.. and then the same design spills over to android.

  • “soon” like how normal people interpret the word, or “soon” like how Verizon interprets the word?  Because to Verizon “soon” is anytime within the next decade.

  • Anonymous

Hm, it’s something different. I like how, for once, it seems to be doing something different with Katana (Facebook for Android) than the iPhone app.

    • Anonymous

After a quick Google, turns out I’m completely wrong. This design has been on iOS (iPhone/Pod and iPad) for a while now. Damn. Still looks pretty.

  • Anonymous

Still no tablet UI I’m guessing? 🙁

  • let me guess…it still wont sync contacts on motorola phones because of that stupid social networking thing they have in blur?

  • Does anyone use the Facebook mobile web app? It’s pretty good.

  • EC8CH

  • dreedy android

Maybe we will actually be able to do some of the standard operations in Facebook that you should be able to do, like change your damn profile picture or poke.  It’s the little things that bug the sh** outta me with this app.

    • Anonymous

People actually use the poke function?

      • Christopher Riner

If disqus had a poke option, you probably would’ve just gotten about a thousand of them

  • If this update does not FINALLY include push notifications for comment notifications and the like then all that newfangled sexiness is meaningless.

  • do you have 17 potential release dates for this as well?

  • matatora

This looks exactly like the current FB on the iphones…

    • Anonymous

      probably just as buggy too.

  • Genius

    Facebook… bleh.

    • HuskerHog

You don’t like Facebook, but you took the time to open the article and comment?  Just scroll past it next time ok?

  • Anonymous

With ever Facebook update I’m curious to see if it out performs FreindCaster. So far they have failed miserably at that task.

  • Anonymous

Wonder if it will finally have a tablet UI.

    • I sure do hope so!

    • Dramageek

Exactly what I was thinking! I finally managed toget my hands on a HP Touchpad last week, and the built in facebook app blows the android one out of the water (at least on tablets). I still rooted it and installed cyanogen, but why can’t Facebook share the love with Android rather than quasi-EOL WebOS?

  • Anonymous

I like how it says “soon” and not “December 9th”

  • Anonymous

Is it an actual app update or an internal update?  For instance, there were a couple “versions” for awhile where the interface within the app updated but the actual market app stayed the same – it’s like they embedded something within the app itself and were changing stuff remotely without it causing a new app download.

    • This should be an actual update through the Market.

  • Chris G

Verizon says the Galaxy Nexus is coming soon.

    Facebook vs Verizon.

Who will win this IROT (international race of turtles)

  • Anonymous

So by “confirmed” to you mean Facebook told the entire company they were revamping the UI for this update but really they were lying that this isn’t really happening?

    • Very cute. +1

      • Hi Mctypething! Hey I tried emailing you, but of course you use a nonexistent email address. Hit me up if you can! I wrote a sweet email to you and it got sent back by Google – I was bummed.

Lets find someone good at CS and develop a script to auto ban ___ ___ bro? statements…

        • Mctypething

Your chances of getting my email address are about as high as the chances of the Galaxy Nexus being released on Dec. 9th. If you have something to say, post it here.

          • Afraid I would spam you? 🙁

          • Mctypething

Hmmm, I can think of a few reasons. If you want to post your email here, I’ll be happy to read it and respond.

          • EC8CH

            Yeah Tim-o…. POST IT HERE!

          • Mctypething

another tough day of engineering bro?

          • Christopher Riner

            hahaha.  See!  classic.

          • No one wants to read my email to Mctypething. It was just full of unkept promises and unfulfilled dreams 🙁

          • Mctypething

Your choice. Like I said, I’m happy to read it and respond. I can take some negative feedback, unlike you guys.

          • We love all sorts of feedback. Here is the email as per your request.

….just don’t let that go too far to your head, mickey.  We love to rag on you.  You are the antagonist to droid life’s story.

          • Roderick Cross

            I would read it

          • I love that pic lol

        • Mctypething

By the way, I’m not sure why my username keeps showing up as “Kellex’s Source”. I posted that once as a joke (which you guys quickly deleted), but it keeps showing up. Oh well.
