DROID2 Gingerbread Update Soak Test Set to Begin

Our sources told us back in June that Gingerbread builds for the DROID2, Global and Pro had been pulled while they went back to the drawing board to fix all of the issues that were introduced to the DROIDX through 2.3.  And now that a bugfixer has arrived for the DX, Motorola is ready to start pumping out updates to the all of those devices.  The DROID2 appears to be next, even though the Global version was originally set to receive it first.

Moto started sending out soak test invites to D2 members this morning, which is usually a good sign that we are only a week or two away from it becoming available to everyone.  The test group should receive the update within a few days – the rest of the world shortly thereafter.

Cheers M, S and K!

I happen to be writing to let you be aware of what a fabulous discovery my friend’s daughter developed going through yuor web blog. She came to find numerous things, most notably how it is like to possess an amazing coaching character to have many people just understand various hard to do matters. You undoubtedly did more than our own expected results. I appreciate you for churning out these powerful, safe, edifying and as well as unique tips on this topic to Gloria.

    YES!!!! FINALLY!!!

  • digsoreos

Has anyone heard whether Motorola has finally gotten a GB update right with this release? DX and DX2 users are still waiting on actual fixes and not updates in name only.

  • Themrjustinjones

Worthless. CM7 3500 quadrant score at 1.4ghz. What a jokeverizon sucks D2 baby

  • http://www.facebook.com/markml0528 Mark Lightell

Motorola has been saying that an update for the Droid 2 is coming “soon” since November.  “Soon” to Motorola means roughly 9 months.  Nbd.  It takes roughly a year for Motorola to issue bug fixes for a phone to get it working the way it should have on launch day.

I just got a Droid for $ 23. 53 and my girlfriend loves her Dell laptop that we got for $ 33.49 there arriving tomorrow by UPS I will never pay such expensive retail prices in stores again. Especially when I also sold a 42 inch LED TV to my boss for $ 645 which only cost me $ 59.63 to buy.We are getting all this stuff from, GrabPennу.com

“Bugfixer”?  Yeah right!  For Christ’s sake, I’d rather go back to Froyo on my DX!

    • http://twitter.com/Rocko9999 Rocko Smith

The 11mb update did nothing. Just got some people to shut up.

      • digsoreos

The sound of silence is probably due to users giving up and going with other manufacturers. It’s certainly not due to “bug fixes” in that last update to the first GB update.

    • Anonymous

      You should root your phone.

  • Anonymous

Anyone get the update yet?  I got the invite yesterday from MOTO.

    • Drw1

No, I got my invite yesterday as well, but nothing yet.

My spouse and i felt really comfortable Ervin managed to finish up his basic research out of the ideas he discovered using your web pages. It is now and again perplexing just to possibly be offering information which other people may have been making money from. Therefore we recognize we have the writer to appreciate because of that. These illustrations you’ve made, the easy web site menu, the friendships you will aid to promote – it’s most wonderful, and it’s making our son and the family do think that situation is awesome, which is really important. Many thanks for everything!

You’re kidding me. I’ve been waiting for my Tbolt to get Gingerbread all this time, watching all these other phones get it before me, now the D2 gets it?!

    My phone is cursed…

    • Guest

lol and maybe they get gb for og droid and you still be waiting but thunderbolt its not a bad phone its just that htc its not as good as moto

    • PSU_DI

The latest thunderbolt leaked ruu is running really well. I wouldn’t be supprised if this is the build vzw plans to release as I’ve found no show stopping bugs in it. Head over to xda and download it yourself they even have a stock non rooted version if your still stock.

    • Anonymous

How silly. Isn’t it amazing how “all these other phones” are getting Gingerbread before our Thunderbolt? Is’t it really weird how they have been out a year longer than the Bolt… :)  Sheesh…

They are working on it and I’ve been running Gingerbread flawlessly for a few months now and it just keeps getting better and better. If you wan’t is so bad, simply install it! The Bolt can be fully unlocked so there is nothing holding anyone back.

      • Coutman

Where did you get the Gingerbread you are running?

        • Anonymous

I think if you give the Das Bamf gingerbread roms a try you would be very pleased. Their latest version is Uber Bamf. Go to Rootzwiki under the Thunderbolt section and you will find many options. There are a bunch of them to choose from. HTC has been leaking gingerbread and several builds just recently.

  • Anonymous

The updates come when they are ready.  Good grief there are so many goofballs saying that the Thunderbolt has been abandoned because it has not received it yet… LOL. The D2 is almost a year older than the Bolt, how come people are not screaming about that?  They probably are… but you get what I mean.

The Bionic is about to come out and as soon as it does a few weeks later people will be saying it’s been abandoned if it doesn’t get the next operating system within a week or two.

people just cry to much about it froyo was still good not as good as gb but good enough

yea I know just makin sure, and yea the force is strong with the phone I work at best buy mobile and everyone loves it, everyone always asks what it is.  I might have to carry 2 phones cause I dont wanna ever give it up

I together with my guys were examining the best tips located on the blog while suddenly developed a terrible suspicion I never expressed respect to the site owner for those techniques. Those guys were definitely as a consequence very interested to see them and have in actuality been having fun with them. Many thanks for being well thoughtful and then for choosing these kinds of helpful information most people are really desirous to know about. My very own honest apologies for not expressing gratitude to earlier.

is this referring to the D2 or D2G getting it first now..?  the title says D2G, but “The DROID2 appears to be next, even though the Global version was originally set to receive it first.” sounds as though we’re talking about the D2 (even first sentence in 2nd paragraph refers to D2).

  • David Brown

My upgrade in January is going to come around before my D2 Global gets Gingerbread :(

    • Anonymous

Lately I even doubt it will even though D2 is getting it.

Because D3 is also global, and thus D2G not having 2.3 might get some current D2G owners to move to D3.

Irony- seeing this post immediately after giving up waiting and rooting/installing Cyanogenmod on my D2…and based on my experience so far with CM7, i’m not exactly anxious to return to Moto’s software

  • http://twitter.com/Damn_ItsMike Michael C.™

Finally…Now we just need it to be rooted

    • SmellslikeVageen

Can you wait until it’s released at least? Geesh.

      • http://twitter.com/Damn_ItsMike Michael C.™

I was just stating that once we have root for it, the update would be great.  Also its taken them forever for this official gingerbread update, it should have been released!

        • MichaelsAcunt

If it had been released when you felt it should, you would be here or some other place complaining about all the bugs it has. You are lucky they held off.

          • http://twitter.com/Damn_ItsMike Michael C.™

I’m currently running the leaked gingerbread for the D2 and its a good build,
I ran into a few bugs but nothing a simple reboot couldn’t fix…Knowing
Motorola this final release will still have bugs in it probably caused by blur. Google first released Gingerbread in December and the Droid 2 is finally getting it in August(probably September) is ridiculous. These manufacturers need to be more timely with the updates.

          • Guest

i could not agree more google needs to release the updates at the same time or the manufactures

    • Raven

Exactly!  My Droid 2 Global runs so good now rooted, I don’t even want to see this update available for it until someone has successfully rooted it on the DX and D2.  I would take rooted 2.2 over unrooted 2.3 any day.  I have feeling that when this is finally released for the D2G that I am just going to be stuck in Update Reminder Hell until someone finally roots it, if they ever do.

  • http://twitter.com/Damn_ItsMike Michael C.™

Finally…Now we just need it to be rooted

I hope its nothing like the DROIDX update that was horrible the first go around. Verizon denying everything that dealt with the bugs. Verizon made it a bitch with Lie’s with denying everything.

Different, smaller update. The update we’re talking about is for the Droid 2, not the Droid X.

    • SmellslikeVageen

What do you mean what’s going on? It’s an update for the X. Nothing to do with the D2.

As a very frustrated Droid X user who is stuck on their very buggy Froyo build, and can’t even upgrade to Gingerbread out of the horrible things I’ve read about it, I have every right to make a comment like that.

What other kind of company leaves bugs that prevent you from placing CALLS on a PHONE, screwing up the NOTIFICATION SYSTEM and timestamp for SMS, amongst other things. It seems like they have no quality control. Such a shame for a company with outstanding hardware. The Droid X hardware-wise is excellent.

        • Anonymous

u must have a bad third party application that is messing up your phone imo.im was messing up my droidx

          • Anonymous

I thought I did too, but I went through all the running services on my phone and the only ones running in the background are well-known apps, and ones I’ve had running for a while. I also had a monitoring app which would alert me if an app was using a high amount of CPU in the background.

          • Anonymous

Maybe it’s the phone, you can complain to verizon about the problem. They might just give you the droidx2

          • Anonymous

With all the files and customization I have on my phone, I don’t have much time to start over again. Not only that, I read bad things about the pentile screen on the DroidX2 so I’m not sure if I would want it. Dual-core would be great though.

          • Anonymous

Don’t believe it droidx2 beats droid x speed the task manager and you will love mirror mode.

You should know that when some bugs are fixed, others are often broken. Especially when Moto is doing the work. I’m waiting until I hear what others have to say about it. If I would’ve followed your logic and blindly updated, we all know what would’ve happened with the original GB update.
