HTC Rep: Thunderbolt Gingerbread Update Coming in Q3

I know that a Q3 release of Gingerbread for the HTC Thunderbolt is sort of assumed at this point since they missed their Q2 deadline, but we wanted to point out that HTC service reps have been given the “OK” to spread the word.  One of our readers reached out to express his concerns over the various problems with his device and received a response back that included word on the update:

…We will certainly pass along your concerns to the developers at HTC. We are working hard to address the issues you have mentioned with future updates for the device. We are excited to announce that the HTC Thunderbolt will receive the Gingerbread (Android 2.3) update in Q3 2011. Stay tuned for details as we get closer to the update availability…

Not surprising of course since we are already in Q3, but that should at least narrow it down to some time within the next 8 weeks.  Uggh.  And still no word on the original Incredible – we’re thinking Q3 for it as well, though.

Cheers Todd!

This phone and this update for it is wack HTC vigor is what it is now the thunderbolt was overhyped and NEVA even came close to the hype what a $250.00 waste

Since there are so many android smartphones in the market, I’m not suprised with all these delays in the updates. HTC has numerous models that they probably need to push through the market and make some gains $$$$ before they release the ultimate update for the Thunderbolt. Had the Thunderbolt come out with 2.3 sales in the Thunderbolt might have killed the competition including I-phone (bad news for Verizon which just picked up recent contract with Apple). It’s all business in my opinion!

Im sick of hearing about HTC …they could of took some of the 500 million from the beats deal and figured how to actually get an gingerbread update on this thunderturd!

  • Thanks so much for giving everyone a very memorable opportunity to discover important secrets from this site. It’s always very ideal and full of a great time for me and my office colleagues to visit your site nearly three times in a week to see the fresh items you will have. And indeed, I’m at all times fulfilled with your astonishing principles served by you. Some two facts in this posting are certainly the simplest we have all ever had.

Forget sense… there the reason why we cant get the damn update in the first place… and it doesnt offer anything more than what the original droid software does…

Uhmmm, I’m most definitely going to have another phone by the time this rolls out…well this is kind of awkward…

Is that “sometime in Q3” like the “sometime in Q2” we heard a few months ago?

I wasn’t expecting HTC to update the original Incredible to Gingerbread at all, but if they do it’ll be a nice surprise for my wife (who got my DINC when I go Thunderbolt).

    Not that she’ll notice a difference…

  • I enjoy you because of each of your effort on this web site. Debby delights in doing investigation and it’s really simple to grasp why. All of us learn all about the dynamic medium you render informative techniques through the blog and even cause response from other ones on the concept plus my child has been understanding a great deal. Have fun with the rest of the year. You’re the one conducting a splendid job.

I am new to rooting, but I found an easy 3 or 4 step process no ADB and I am running Das Bamf 2.34 its superior to what verizon or htc gave me on this awesome thunderbolt.

As an Android newb that bought a Thunderbolt a month ago, what features does Gingerbread have that Froyo doesn’t?

    • Anonymous

Exactly what I was just wondering.  After a while GB doesn’t sound so good. A ROM is one thing but stock GB?

  • tomNasty

Every1 is talkin bout….root ur phone you’ll have GB,,yea with bugs i’ve tried every GB rom there is and they all have bugs the last ones i’ve used gigeritis 1.2,,,gingeritis 3d….to open phone with ring, delay to end call, delay when phone first opens, delay…now i’m running das bamf rc4 and the same issues with them delay delay delay

Well obviously with your grammar skills(or lack thereof), you are trying to start a fight with someone over the awesomeness that is the Tbolt. Did you ever think that maybe they didn’t work for you because you don’t really know what you’re doing? Or maybe you have a bunk Tbolt. Also, name the bugs. But before you go off on another tirade of hate, check out rootzwiki for CM7, I’ve been running it since RC 1.1 and I have had no issues what so ever. Just a friendly tip my good chap.

I’m disgusted by the lack of support for this phone.
