Facebook on Android Updated to V1.6.1, More Support for Pages Added

The Facebook on Android team sure seems to be on quite the tear lately.  Just two weeks ago, they dropped a major update that included video uploads, a new UI, and pages support.  Well today (or late last night), they added even more support to pages; now allowing users to see their entire list of pages as well as act as admin to them from their phones.  Many of you are still really frustrated with this official FB offering, but you have to admit that it has come a long way in the last month or so.

In order to access your Pages, simply hit the Search button from within the app and find the “Pages” tab at the bottom of the screen.

Cheers Lorne and everyone else!

Did anyone else notice the little plus sign that has appeared on the right side of post on your feed? There’s now a nifty little plus sign that allows you to click like or comment. Sounds like someone’s trying to integrate a plus sign as fast as possible in to their service to try to confuse the facebooksheep so they don’t leave!

I paid $32.67 for a XBOX 360 and my mom got a 17 inch Toshiba laptop for $94.83 being delivered to our house tomorrow by FedEX. I will never again pay expensive retail prices at stores. I even sold a 46 inch HDTV to my boss for $650 and it only cost me $52.78 to get. Here is the website we using to get all this stuff, GrabPenny.com

I had to stop using the native FBook app on my OG droid because of the memory suck. Have they changed this? It was the main source of my ‘memory full’ messages.

    Samsung Galaxy S2 soon please

Slowly transitioning, with my friends and fam, to Google+. Shows a lot of promise to just be out a couple of weeks. If all continues to go well, its adios facebook.

Why does such a popular site have such a terrible app? Android’s version has been garbage from the get go.

  • Desmo74

How about some freakin’ Honeycomb 3.1/3.2 support!

Maybe they should think about fixing chat. People keep sending me message but I can’t read them until I login on my PC.

you can now tag people too

I don’t know about you guys, but I get notifications for everything except for Likes. However, I did notice that sometimes the app won’t notify me of messages or all notifications, even when I view it in the actual notification panel.

This app is SO slow. Google+ isn’t perfect, but they seemed to have nailed the basic functionality on the first go with their Android app. This has gone completely backwards and defaulting to “Top News” is horrendous, especially when you can’t change it.

This force closes and works terrible on my OG DROID. I’m pretty close to just deleting it entirely.

  • Pete

How has it come a long way in the past month?  It has completely gone backwards – there’s no improved functionality and in many places it’s much worse:

I hate Top News.  I want to recent things in chronological order.  You can change to Recent News, but it doesn’t stick when you come back in.  For awhile Top News seemed to actually be in reverse chronologic order, but now it’s been “fixed” and it sucks.  Let me default to Recent News.

There’s still a weird thing when viewing comments or pictures sometime.  It will load twice or something – basically I’ll click on a comment or picture, it will flash twice and then load.  I’ll have to hit Back twice to get back to the main timeline.

I may be able to upload videos (haven’t tried), but I still get incompatible format errors when viewing videos other people have posted, presumably uploaded.  Youtube video links work fine.

It’s still garbage all around.  You’ve got your main screen.  Then the newsfeed – which is now a laggy embedded web view.  You have to be careful to click the link of the name to view their profile since the whole item isn’t a link anymore.  You go to the profile and it’s the old style from the previous version.  And if you still want more profile info, you click the person header and it takes you to the mobile site.

There’s still no notifications.  I don’t get notified if someone comments or likes somethings of mine.  I’ll get email notifications, and message notifications don’t come up until I open the app anyway.

Where did they come up with this?  Drag-up notification pane?  Slot machine menu for changing views?  Embedded web views instead of a native app for the largest web site on the planet on one of the major smartphone platforms?  It’s sad that my wife’s Blackberry Storm 2 has so much better Facebook capabilities.  I don’t want Pages or video uploading – I’d rather just have a decent slickness to view and read posts.

Heck at this point I’d rather they *really* copy the iPhone app.  At least that one works.  This is just a poor imitation that doesn’t even work.

Friendcaster spanks the official Facebook app with its left teste.

I would’ve agreed about 2 months ago.  Since then, tons of bugs have popped up, there is no longer the ability to tag friends in posts, not all the photos/posts/etc even show up in the news feed.  Half of the time when you get a notification, it pumps out an error message and redirects you to the browser which doesn’t find the post/picture/whatever the notification was for.  There are a SLEW of other problems that has actually made the official app more usable. This is all coming from a guy who literally almost uninstalled the official app in favor or flow (now friendcaster) a few months ago.  And yes I’m using the Pro version.

Did the update yesterday. Sooo many glitches!

  • Vypor

See i have no problem with them adding features. What i have a problem with is the fact that stability went to crap. Force closes more often and wall gets stuck in updating making the page not viewable. On another note google+ is looking smooth for beta.

I never did get that new layout with the spinning wheel and all that. Even on this new version.

Still taking a big steaming dump on Tablet users, I see.

I hope Google+ makes Facebook the new Myspace soon.

It’s seriously the worse developed website out there. I still don’t get the point of all the applications that NONE of them work or are spam. So retarded.

    People still use Facebook?

So many Facebook updates. You’d think they were in danger of losing users or something. Oh wait…
