New Thunderbolt Software Fix Released, Device is Ready to Go?

News over the weekend was filled with new HTC Thunderbolt rumors including one claim that the device was really struggling with battery life.  A firmware fix was to be released “soon” that would hopefully address the battery/radio problem, and guess what?  Our friends over at 911 Sniper leaked one out this morning.  I should also point out that this comes on the heels of an industry “friend” who let slip that the phone is actually signed off on now and is ready to be shipped.  Now, that doesn’t necessarily mean two days from now, but could mean by March 10th like that massively leaked photo seemed to hint at.

Should be just a few days now.  Oh, and let’s hope we see those commercials pop back up, only with a date at the end this time instead of “Coming soon!”

  • is this firmware already on the phone?? if not how do i flash it?

i really think people are overestimating the dual core CPU’s at the moment. Very little software will use them for now, and face it, what functions does the average phone user do that needs 2 CPUs ? Be honest. The second gen SnapDragon is a good CPU that is enough for most smart phone users at the moment.

Working for verizon myself,im constantly checking our inventory order list looking for that TBolt shipment. I can tell u this,it usualy shows up 3 or 4 days befor the phone lands,so if it dosent show up by tomarow, its probley gonna be the 10th. On another note, i wish i could throw an i*hone at every customers head that asks for one. Or strangle them with there usb cable. : )

  • The thunderbolt is a good phone, i own it.

  • meh… I already marked on my calendar “release date for HTC Thunderbolt” for MARCH 31. That way I’ll actually be pleasantly surprised if it releases before that date, and this way it sticks with Verizon’s original statement of “by Q1 2011.” Until then, I’ll be on my BlackBerry Storm 1…

  • Nyfan3

really hope this does come out on the 3rd. My OG DROID shit the bed last nite. I plugged it in and it sparked and must have shorted out and is now fried… 🙁

PLS PLS PLS….but i have a new theory…..today they didn’t have a press right? Well what if they do a presser on march 3rd…thursday…pre orders march 4th…and then release march 10th…another thursday and also like the iphone….pls pls pls thunderbolt..!

    • Perwilly

oh gawd…now yur torturing us, motox. Too dang many “what ifs”. With no word out today, I’m not feeling the love re: thursday/friday this week. Sigh…………..

  • Hpradford

    HTC THUNDERBOLT HURRY UP PLEASE.

  • great. yeah this thing should be officially announced here shortly. verizon just posted a statment on there facebook stating it will be coming soon. and also in the post it said “we want to ensure the advanced technology behind our first 4G LTE phone is flawless.” admiting it that it has/had flaws. and they are fixing or have fixed the problems addressed.

  • scadole

The only reason I put a preorder in for this phone @BB was to get the free buy back program…. I called today to see if it was still valid for those who preordered and was told “No”. I guess I will be getting this phone from Verizon… and returning it if the battery life really blows. It can’t be as bad as my Pre Plus. I go through 2 batteries to get a full day.

  • Tbolt

Stopped by my local verizon store. Manager said he was on a conference call that officially pushed the Thunderbolt back and that there was an issue with the battery. He didn’t seem too confident when I asked about this week or next. But, hopefully this report is true and they will release it either this week or next! Almost there

  • Reeper

Im willing to bet that 90% of the people that are complaining about the Thunderbolt news and saying they won’t buy it now because of all the bad coverage will indeed buy it the first day it comes out and will love the phone. Then they will create another identity so that they can comfortable post on this site how much they love their new phone.

  • about damn time!

  • Lord_20_bucks

    Music to my ears 😀

This is from the Verizon Wireless Facebook page….

Verizon Wireless Hey fans, we appreciate all the excitement about the anticipated launch of the ThunderBolt by HTC. We’re excited too! Verizon 4G LTE is America’s fastest, most advanced 4G network & we want to ensure the advanced technology behind our first 4G LTE phone is flawless. We will announce its release date as soon as it is co…nfirmed. Thanks for your support & patience while we work to bring you the ThunderBolt by HTC.

  • Jeff

Just going to share what i just was told on the phone.
I called my local independent cellphone store in Iowa that carries Verizon and was asking him if the had any Blunderbolt info, he said he was going to be talking with his Verizon rep and if i wanted he could ask what the latest news was and call me back, so i of course said yes and gave him my number.
Within 1.5 hrs he ACTUALLY did call back and he said the following: ” The Thunderbolt will be in his store on the 3rd and for sale to the public on the 4th, his rep said it was ok for him to start sharing that info with potentail customers if he got any calls. I asked him if he could confirm that it was the battery life issue that held it up but he had no info on that question.Anyway i just wanted to pass that along cause i am so sick of the Thunderbolt BS, lets just hope this news is 100% accurate, it should be.

    • Fatal304

I actually her the same thing Jeff, from a Best buy rep here in phoenix. They are also accepting pre orders again, which is a good sign, because as of last week they wouldn’t let me pre order

      • Anonymous

Did you ask if the price will actually be at the eye-bleeding price of $300 while you were at it?

        • Fatal304

LOL, no, i was too afraid of the answer!

    • Anonymous

Nice one TBS (Thunderbolt BS) reminds me of TBS or what I call ‘the baseball station’ lol

  • RaptorOO7

I got the latest image d/l and ready to go with the TB once it launches.

  • ReadyForMyBolt

I have a dinc now. Battery life on it is horrible, that’s why I got an extended battery. If the battery life on the ThunderBolt sucks I’ll deal with it until an extended battery comes out. As far as 4G, we have coverage here in the small town of Jackson, Mississippi so I’m gonna give it a shot. I’m a delivery driver, and we cover the whole state, so I use my phone hard every day, google maps, google search, phone calls, naggin wife, you get the point. So if it sucks I’ll take it back after the first week of rigorous testing. My dinc signal blows, if the ThunderBolt is the same that may kill it as well. Most important feature of a phone is the ability to make and receive phone calls.

    • Anonymous

Dude is an extended battery physically larger?

      • Guest

there is one you can buy from a company called seido that you don’t need a different battery door for. never used them but i might order one once this thing finally comes out. there’s prob going to be an OEM one soon after the phone’s released too.

      • ReadyForMyBolt

Yep it’s larger and weird looking.

  • Destin4death

Even if I were interested in this thing I know I sure as heck would not buy within the first month of release. With all the delays and push backs no way in hell I’d purchase it from the get go. I’ve been thinking since day one LTE, new SW, and hardware updated are going to be trouble on the first devices. That said I’m waiting for at least 2nd generation of anything new in the works as I’m sure there will be nothing but issues on devices like this. And just wait til the dual core devices start getting closer and delayed time and time again.

I have no issue buying it on day one, each person has a threshold they can handle. I am willing to go for it.

  • Eazy

Sorry kellex but this phone is even more hyped up than the I*hone and is least deserving of it. It is outdated slow and the screen sux

    • Octotron

You have hands on experience with a Thunderbolt?

      • Eazy

Yes I do not lol no but just look at the specs …so outdated

        • 123

Look at the RAM and think before you speak retard.

          • DBK

Seeing as the RAM on the Thunderbolt is DDR while the RAM on the other phones are DDR2, that doesn’t mean much. Take your own advice.

        • Anonymous

So far in the reviews the Thunderbolt and Inspire run better than the first run of Tegra 2 phones.

          • DBK

Because the Tegra 2s aren’t running with Gingerbread, and thus the dual cores aren’t being properly utilized. When Gingerbread eventually comes out, and these tests are run again, the Tegra 2s will run circles around any of the single core phones.

          • and still, gingerbread isn’t optimized for dual-core. not until honeycomb anyway. it’s how the phone utilizes the processor

          • DBK

But the OS will perform more efficiently and smoothly, causing UI to perform better, which in turn would result in the phone performing better. As a result, the dual cores would perform more efficiently. They are running new a new UI on an old OS and expecting perfect results (and thus judging based on that). Gingerbread may not be optimized for dual cores, but it would still show a vast improvement in performance.

        • Guest

the specs aren’t necessarily cutting edge but they’re good enough for me for now.. assuming it’s not a million dollars to do so, this is feeling like a 1-year contract phone.

    • Anonymous

How is the Thunderbolt outdated but the iPhone isn’t? The Thunderbolt beats the iPone in nearly every spec.

      • Eazy

I never said the I*hone isn’t outdated im just saying that this phone is gonna be a huge letdown just mark my words

      Ur mom

  • OMG, stop crying about thunderbolt news, if your sick of it, then how about you stop clicking on each post about it and reading about, just ignore it. Right now Thunderbolt is the most hyped phone for verizon, you clearly care about it since you take time to read it and complain in the comment box.

  • Stop bashing this site about posting thunderbolt news, seriously lol, if you didnt care about it you wouldnt be reading every post from it. Ignore it if you want, otherwise stop crying. Right now the thunderbolt is the most hyped phone for verizon.

  • Keemyxo

I got so tired of waiting on this mess that I just upgraded to an iPhone. Because 4G isn’t even in my area right now so I didn’t see the point in waiting and waiting. I got pissed off. I’ll always be an android kidd still got my OG droid. but i needed something new. I think Verizon wants everyone to have an iPhone cause when you upgrade to iPhone you don’t even have to pay the $20 upgrade fee.

    • Anonymous

wait. what upgrade fee are you talking about?

      • JG

some people actually pay upgrade fees and activation fees. Its amazing, all you really have to say is “no i dont want to pay that” and you dont lol.

Again, i will continue to restate my point. I dont have 4g here on the jersey shore, but Trenton philly ny and somewhere down south have it…soon it will all diverge into my area. If the rumors of 30 unlimited for 4g are true you could give me a block of wood and i would buy it to lock that price in for 2 years.

    • Anonymous

The joke’s on you because you bought an iPhone.

  • Rachel

Just got off the phone with a BB employee and he told me that the 4th is looking promising. So guess all we can od is wait and see once again.

    • Anonymous

4th is a friday… and what ever happened to BB exclusivity? I don’t want it from there!

    • Anonymous

And I just left a Verizon store (to check out the Xoom) and was told it would be a miracle if this phone comes out on the 10th.

      • Reeper

I went to a Verizon Store over the weekend to play with a Motorola Xoom until I get my heavily discounted one (thanx droid-life 🙂 in the mail this week. While I was there I asked about the thunderbolt and the rep told me…..that part of the agreement with Apple was that they wouldn’t release a similar product that would compete with their product in the same month and that was the reason Verizon began stalling the launch of the Thunderbolt. Don’t know how true that is.

  • Anonymous

I think with all this power no phone is going to have a battery that can keep up for a decent amount of time. I will be waiting for a second Gen 3g phone ie Dinc2 or for a phone with the next generation battery… or maybe even that phone that had the self charging screen (pretty sure saw the article on here).

  • Djspikezz

ummm soo who cares, Post this HTC crap on Android-Life.

BTW.. DID you know?… Honeycomb bootanimation w/sound available for Droid X? Post that! That has to do with Droid’s…I’m not gonna post a link cause this isn’t my blog, I’d expect you to find it, but cmon there’s all kinds of new things spinning out there for Droid’s that you could be focusing on, you just gotta spend a few mins in DroidXforums.net to find it Kellex…. getting disappointed 🙁

HTC Thunderbolt isn’t special, the dual core’s will be. HTC Thunderbolt = 4G (WHERE AVAILABLE), and Front facing camera, basically thats it.. so who cares.. kinda over the HTC Thunderbolt.

    • ugadroid

If you don’t like the site then don’t come here. Go back to your gay porn loser.

    • Anonymous

This site is for all Verizon Android devices. And as of right now, the Atrix and Bionic don’t run as well as the Thunderbolt.

      • djspikezz

That’s because they aren’t ready to be released. When they are, thunderbolt will be the discount afterthought phone.

        • Anonymous

Ummm…The Atrix has already been released.

        • Alvinm 77

HTC Inspire is said to be running better than the Atrix on AT&T and like @cleetose said, The Atrix is out already.

          • Djspikezz

AH Gotcha! Don’t follow AT&T at all. Their service is terrible and I don’t give a listen, look or wag at anything AT&T, Probably why the Atrix is fail. Verizon does a much better job at device selection. If I’m wrong correct me then. Don’t even say I^hone, that device is lolz.

      • Djspikezz

http://www.android-life.com enough said. Kellex can correct me if I’m wrong.. but this site was originally focused on OG DROID and “DROID”… later Android devices came into play like Incredible, but that’s why Android-Life.com was created or am I wrong? lol

        • Mrpicolas

Android life is for more broadly related android content so your right somewhat this site follows vzw pretty closely

    • Alvinm 77

Not special? 40gb of memory, 768mb RAM most in a for a phone( Atrix 512mb for phone and 512 for laptop features), Dolby surround sound, kickstand is a wonderful feature and wish I had it on the DX, 4G hot spot 8 devices, 2000 quadrant score out the box and thats with a single core processor, 50% faster and more powerful than the Evo and Incredible, no locked bootloader like Atrix and Bionic (which matters to a ROM flasher like myself), Integrated Skype mobile and DLNA Wireless Media Connectivity…. Thats whats special about the Thunderbolt. AND I’ll have waaaaaaay more fun with the Thunderbolt then I ever will with the Bionic and its bootloader…. PLUS if HTC snapdragon processor is competing with the dual core’s, imagine when Qualcomm gets done with there dual core!!

      • Djspikezz

What makes you think Bionic will have a locked bootloader? Xoom’s unlockable, this could be the case for the future of the moto devices, we’ll have to see. In regards to your ++ to the device, yes they are attractive now, but will be surpassed by Bionic. Dual core processors running at lower frequency = better battery life at amazing speeds. I have a Droid X and the roms/themes work great even with a locked bootloader. I had an OG Droid as well which was unlockable and honestly don’t see a huge difference from my OG Droid to Droid X as far as the bootloader.

Regarding 4g hotspot.. well 4g means nothing to many of us as 4g coverage is mainly only in very limited areas such as major cities like SF and LA. I’m in Santa Barbara, Ca. and 4g is useless right now. Eventually It’ll be available and when it is, the devices that will be available will make HTC Thunderbolt look like maybe an EVO 4G with better guts.

Droid X 2 will even be better then Thunderbolt. Yes it’s all opinion. I could give a flying crap about a front facing camera, I really don’t need to look at who I’m talking to on a phone. HD LCD screen dual core processor, maybe unlocked bootloader? I can tell you this if the bootloaders end up being unlockable from MOTO, it will be game changing.. Xoom’s unlockable bootloader is total win!

        • Alvinm 77

4G means alot to me since I live in the middle of an area that will be widely covered first half of 2011. The bootloader is unlockable on the Xoom because its stock 3.0. Moto already stated that. Anything with Blur Moto will lock it down and I cant get Android 2.3 on my Droid X like the OG Droid can until Moto releases it? BS…. I cant run CM7 or other great ROM that the OG, Incredible, Evo and others androids run. I agree with you if Moto unlocked the bootloader but they WONT! and if they do, I will gladly eat my words but ALOT of the ppl on this forums and all the DX owners I know are dumping their DX’s/D2’s for Thunderbolts and not picking up the Bionic because of the bootloader.

And if you dont see a huge difference from OG Droid to Droid X as far as the bootloader, clearly you dont flash ROMS like I do buddy. I respect your opinion but until I see Moto release a unlockable phone, I will not buy. I dont give a damn if its quad core, 60gb of memory, 2gb of RAM, Super AMOLED Plus qhd and transforms into a Lambo, I will not buy another Moto product at all.

Droid X ruined any love I had for Moto so Im HTC from now on until the change and tons of ppl feel same the way I do. Read the Bionic post. CANT WAIT TO GET MY THUNDERBOLT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

        • Alvinm 77

Oh yeah and after spending many hours playing around with my friends Atrix, the Tegra 2 is not that impressive to me at all. No reason the phone should still be laggy and slow at some points. And if the Atrix bootloader is locked up, what makes you think the Bionics wont be. It was said today by Moto that the Bionic will have webtop (I rather have a Honeycomb tab then that crap) so the bootloader is gonna be locked. In my book …… FAIL

      • kw

Qualcomm isnt focused on dual core so much which is why they created this 2nd generation processor but instead they are focuing on multi-core(i.e. quad core) 🙂 but i would also rather take an advanced version of something that worked well before rather than something new(as in the single core over the dual core tegra 2)

        • Alvinm 77

Oh ok!! Thanks for that info!

  • Guttah2010

I’ll be paying my $35 dollar re-stock fee, once It becomes available. we all have different reasons to why we want this device, me frankly want it due to the face that I’ll be able to face chat without wifi. That’s what sold me.

There is a delay buddy, you think Best Buy just magically created a launch date and took presales for it? The Xoom wasn’t officially announced until a few days before it hit the shelves but guess what…Everybody knew what day it was launching via Best Buy and other outlets.

Exactly! This phone is the lead boat in it’s class and there is a definite reason to get it right. I personally am very happy that they are taking the time now to troubleshoot rather than hand me a phone that’s full of bugs and in need of updates and patches out of the box. New network, new phone, new problems. The 4th, the 10th whatever happens, happens, the damn thing is coming so just hold your water everybody…and WHATEVER you do–don’t settle for some I*hone and make it seem like kind of good idea.

I still smell BS on this. I mean c’mon… what is this like the 5th time we’re speculating dates again just because of someone’s phony inside info? Based on all the set backs that have occurred I’m willing to bet that once the phone is ready for the consumer, Verizon will make an official announcement that minute. They’re probably already running behind deadline so we’ll know as soon as they’re ready to give up the phone. Personally, I want them to fix all the problems before it hitting the shelves. No updates TBD later like that XOOM bullsh*t.

  • Octotron

Seeing the issues with the Atrix, my hopes for Moto not mucking up the Bionic are slim at best. Gonna still prolly end up with a TBolt in the end.

    • DMBatCOFC

What issues is the Atrix having?

      • Octotron

Color issues with the qHD screen. Data issues etc… they apparently are downloading even slower than VZW in many cases. I know a few people with them and all seem to have the same stuff. It doesn’t bug me now because I don’t have one… I am sure they will have an update soon to fix it, but I am still sour on the Blur experience from the DX I am still toting around. I love the hardware in general and think it is an ideal phone in terms of form factor and functionality, but I have been hearing mixed reviews.

Wondering the same thing. What issues?

      • Octotron

Write about it in the above comment. Just various data and screen coloring issues. Nit picky stuff, but I am hyper critical about Moto since the OG Droid.

Like HTC doesn’t muck up their phones.

      • Octotron

Frankly, the Droid Incredible is one of the best phone experiences I have seen outside the Evo. Both of them run extremely well from my experience.

What I have experienced was that the OG Droid was an awesomely built phone with a superior experience at the time of release. I then bought a DX and it makes me mad now when I look at it for various reasons. I am willing to give HTC a chance based on real world experience. I still think Moto makes a superior phone hardware wise, however.

The couple people at my verizon store seemed to think it was coming out this thursday…….

  • Anonymous

I might still consider this, but I’ll definitely be waiting for some reviews on the battery life before I buy any 4G phone now.

  • Hoot352

Got my fingers crossed, my phones on it’s last leg and has gone an extra mile gettin by with tooth and nail.

  • Danny

I’ve given up on this one. Originally planned to upgrade from my wife’s Eris but this phone seems snakebit to me and the generation 1 4g phone adds to that fear.

Thunderbolt is yesterday’s news at this point.

    • RaptorOO7

If it was yesterday’s news then why is it still relevant on every Android Site – Android = Droid. I carry a droid and its from HTC.

      Classic rock. Awesome!

  • Anonymous

I would also like to sell the Brooklyn Bridge if anyone is interested. Buy in the next week and you get a free Thunderbolt (subject to release and availability).
