Unrevoked “A day or two” Away from Rooting DROID Incredible Again

The previous rooting method for the Droid Incredible seems to have been patched by the latest OTA update, but that hasn’t stopped the unrevoked team from jumping on it immediately.  Last night they let the world know that they are only a day or two away from bringing freedom to those that have a stock OTA’d DI.  Pretty quick turn around right?

Cheers OrbitJM!

  • anyone know how to manually do the update and if you do it is the rooting undone/

  • Dsgamecube

S-OFF will let me install and then put Clockworkmod back on, right?

  • cool-hand

I am a rooted DI user. I do not want to perform the OTA update so how do I get rid of the annoying pop up to install the update?

    • JoeDirt2217

Get Root Explorer from the Market. open and go to your build.prop file located at /system folder. Press and hold the build.prop until menu with “Open in Text Editor”; edit the line that reads “ro.build.fingerprint=verizon_wwe/inc/inc/inc:2.2/FRF91/XXXXX:user/release-keys. The X's represent the numbers that are currently on your phone. Change the number (X's) to 264707. Save, exit and reboot. You will still get the notice on reboot, open it (do not install update) and then back out. It will no longer show up.

i couldn't even installed the new ota update on my rooted incredible. anyone having the same issue?

  • JagoX

Thank god…my has been nagging me about the nag screen her phone has been giving her since the update came out. Of course, the next current problem is trying to figure out why I can't access her phones internal & SD card storage on ANY computer…but I can read the card in Astro & when I pull the card out to use an adapter >_<

YAY!!!!!!!!!! Can't wait! SO going to root.

  • Dave

    Thank god for these guys.

Why do phone manufacturers feel the need to control what we have on OUR phones that we purchased? Its frustrating. My home pc doesn't try to keep certain programs and tell me what I can and cannot have. Leave phones rootable with the stipulation that u do so of ur own free will, and if u brick it its ur fault. I'm a grown up, I want to be treated as such

    • Dave

This is all about money. Application dev like “City ID” pay big bucks to get forced on our desktops. Verizon is protecting that value stream by locking the phone so you can't remove them.

      • Mtknight80

I know its about money- most things are. But my point is it is definately unethical and questionably illegal. We purchase hardware and software with these phones that we can use or not use/delete at our discretion

I've been rooted since day one, when this updates come out, I never reverse back, I wait until it gets with the rooted program and a custom rom includes the update. I did it with froyo and I'll do it with Gingerbread.

  • SEdholm

That would explain why it kept failing last night. Great news. I want the keyboard manager app

  • With all this talk of Gingerbread does is it even worth it to root at this time? I rooted my DX and like a month later I lost it due to the OTA update. I'm rooted again and I hope when Gingerbread comes they fix the problem with the music player and ringtones so I don't have to heep rebooting my phone for them to work.

  • jiggaman508

Good because I need to root my girlfriends dinc I love these guys they are so quick

  • KleenDroid

At least HTC doesn't have the bootloader all locked down. I hate to say it, but I may switch from Moto to HTC at some point in the future. It's also too bad Verizon doesn't have the Nexus on their system. Frustrating.

P.S. I'll let you guys have the “First” post for a while.

    • incredible HD

    • I am right there with ya, I am still clinging on to my D1 until March when I can upgrade. The way it is looking, HTC will be my next choice.
