Tuesday Poll: Lexikon? DROID2 Global? Something Else?

Yesterday we saw some pretty revealing pictures of a new HTC device headed to Verizon, codenamed the “Lexikon” and the week before we brought you some exclusive shots of the Droid 2 Global.  Do either of these phones interest you?  Are either of them a “must have”?  Or are you waiting for something bigger and better?

Interested in buying?

  • Love my current droid I chose “Waiting for Something Better” also because I am waiting for my contract to end… I probably wont if I'm really impressed with something new 😀

  • Droid inc=nope
    droidx=not yet
    droid 2=almost but no
Something with android 3.0 on it=Hells yea mother fu*ker!!!

  • I'm happy with my Droid 1's stock UI and Froyo. I'll be rooting it as soon as a 1-click method with unrooting capability becomes available. Anything to replace it would also have to be stock Android, have a physical keyboard and at least the same or higher screen res.

  • Chris Nimon

All these phones are nice especially for new users but I think the rooted crowd just doesn't see any real increase in performance. I bet when the dual core 4g phones start dropping a lot of us will jump ship.

  • MBS

    Something without Bing!

  • Ldjbomber

still on moto droid rooted with cyan. probably will get a new phone mid time next year when 4g/ big processors start coming out.

  • DREAM PHONE: 3.7 in display ( any bigger doesnt seem like a big deal) better rez. make the phone actually able to handle androids idea of multi-tasking. If you cant multi task because the phone keeps freezing…then whats the point of multi tasking!!? great physical keyboard. and of course. pure android. front facing would be a plus but not a biggie. and seriously people…all of you screaming to have world capablities probably are never leaving your zip code so calm down 🙂

How about a fourth option: Waiting for Motorola to fix my Droid X Froyo experience.

  • Raylmiles

I have the Evo from Sprint and my friends are on Verizon and I think both of these phones will be great additions to the Verizon line-up

  • Collin

Well, my upgrade date isn't for another 11 months, and I can't really afford to pay full price, so I'm forced to wait.

In any case, I still love my original DROID. Even if I had the choice, I probably wouldn't trade it for either of those devices anyway.

  • picaso86

    I am waiting for the EVO version for Verizon (FF camera, HD recording, 4G etc) until then…. DROID 1 FTW! :}

  • The350zWolf

I dunno, I guess if I had enough cash to burn I would have them ALL, kind of like the droid life staff. lol

ps. btw I would also buy a nissan GTR :^)

  • Mic

    Too bad there's a keyboard…

  • bravoleader2

    Incredible HD!

  • sdierks

I'm waiting for Motorola duel core phone at the end of the year plus hopefully LTE. if it doesn't restrict data usage to much.

  • Will2Live

IMO they can keep both units. There is nothing special about either. And in reality it is already time to see a just in specs with some of the devices that have been released in the past couple of months.

  • Sparking22

I'm waiting for the next DROID X

  • Waiting

    I'll wait for a front-facing camera, thankyouverymuch.

  • EC8CH

Are either of those I*phones? I need an I*phone. Why would I want one of those?

    • quiklives

Your sister says Walgreens has them?

  • leelee23

As of right now I'll hold onto my X. None of these phones has really WOWED me…I agree with Br_d…I think I'll just wait for 4G to start rolling out to see about a new phone. I've really been spoilt by the X. I don't think I can ever go back to a display that is less than 4.3 inches! Lol

  • Myth90045

New phone will have to be the size of the X, World Edition and LTE…but I guess LTE and WE may cancel each other out???

  • NebulaOcton

I'm an idiot, I didn't read and thought the poll was for what is this above. I am waiting for my contract to be up and to see what the tiered pricing is before I decide on what phone I am getting next. It maybe a dumb phone and I'll keep my droid for wifi only.

  • Richie7782

F the new phones coming out, how about better battery life in my DI! I love 2.2 but man my battery life blows now!

    • jxcgunrunna

Are you running a ROM or stock verizion 2.2?

      • Richie7782

        Stock 2.2

        • Anonymous

Are you rooted? Rooting and Set CPU will help a lot.

          • Richie7782

No I’m too scared to root lol!

  • Sea_Ghost

I think mobiles will go the same way as desktop computers, and that platforms will converge, so handsets will come with one of only two or three operating systems. My guess is one will be an -pple OS (i.e. a descendant of the current i-hone platform), one will be open source (my bet is that Google will eventually snap up the Symbian cooperation and Android will rule supreme), and the other will be a more business-oriented platform from BlackBerry, Microsoft, or even Palm, depending on who can squeeze out/buy out the others first. ..Report by OnSoftware

  • Ilhe1s

I'm waiting on a device similar to the Lexikon, but with 4G capabilities and better specs! And lord permitting “NO” BING!

  • I'm really interested in a Sense device that I can guaranteed root. I'm not sure if i'll be going with the Lexikon, or waiting it out for a while to get a much better device. I'm very happy with my originial Droid, and I feel like I could easily wait it out for a future device.

  • Rain_king46

I am a little disappointed in Moto for the D2. One of the biggest complaints that I always heard about the D1 was that people really didnt like the keyboard. Then the D2 comes out and has basically the same keyboard minus the touchpad thing. Seems like a foolish design given the previous complaints.

I would also love to see a Nexus 2 or some other phone released by Google with a stock Android OS on it. Google was correct the other day when they told us that they can not force manufacturers to offer stock Android . If they did, they would be no better than Microsoft or Apple. But what they could do is offer a stock device themselves that we can choose and let us show the manufacturers that this is what we want by buying it.

    • Stephen D

The D2 keyboard is very nice. The keys are raised and they’re bigger. It doesn’t look like much, but when you go and use one, you can feel the difference.

  • Ryan

I'm not parting with my Droid X.

  • Darkseider

Waiting for a phone with a dual core Cortex A9 based SoC and LTE. Until then my Droid will do just fine.

  • As much as I love the Droid X/Droid 2, if I HAD to choose between the Droid 2 and the Lexicon, it'd definitely be the Lexicon at this point. My love for Motorola/Verizon has definitely wound down after releasing some of the most locked down Android devices out there.

If they all of a sudden decide that “oh we shouldn't lock down our devices tighter than a nun sex drive” then that might change. I really do love Moto's hardware. Hurts that they have their top-level devices so closed…

  • Kaufkin

for me? No bing and on verizon. Wife looked at this, D2, Dx, D/Inc… and wants the Ally.

    at least it's Android…

  • Br_d

I'm happy enough with my OG droid that I don't think there's any feature that could make me want to upgrade, other than 4G. So until that happens, I'm sticking with old faithful.

    • MK17

      That is EXACTLY my thoughts

  • Pete

My wishlist? I've got the original DROID and plan to upgrade when my 2yr contract comes up. I would like to see someone leapfrog that *other* phone with a higher resolution screen. Is that dependent on Android 3.0 or whatever the next version is? Seems like everyone has hit sort of a plateau in their screens – 3.7-4-ish inches and the same resolution.

Improve the regular camera. I swear the action on my KRZR phone was better than my DROID – it reacted faster and was easier to whip out and snap a pic.

A front facing camera would be nice, too. I'm over the physical keyboard now so I'd also like something kinda slim but with a solid feel.

  • Seatgenie

Dear Verizon – can you please release and Android phone with 2.2, Google, touch screen only and as a world phone? ie. Incredible WE??????????

Is that so hard? Is that too much to ask???

    • LiveFree

Give it some time is all I can say at this point they are out there in the wind or being worked on

  • Travillion

Yep, would like something with modern specs, stock experience, and no slider keyboard (my only complaint with the Droid, it's just a space-taker for me).

    • NebulaOcton

I only use the keyboard for my game gripper, especially now that I have swype.

  • qmartman711

We need a front facing camera on Verizon…I mean, I could careless if it was wifi only for now…just do it!!!

    • Timoh

I still see no value in a front facing camera. How often do you plan on video conferencing when you're away from your laptop(webcam)?

      • Anonymous

I am near my comp enough..but maybe it’s cause I know a ton of people (specifically my girl..) who arent going to put in the effort to make a skype account and sit at a computer when talking for more than five minutes.. Plus there have been several instances where I’ve needed to show somebody what I am talking about…i cant send pics while on the phone..so this would be a nice solution.

        • So, what, you’re telling me that your girl won’t put five minutes into making a skype account but would be able to figure it out on a phone? Or use gtalk or MSN messenger or AIM or something, they all have video chatting now… And you’re telling me that she won’t sit at a computer for five minutes with a webcam but will hold a phone awkwardly out in front of her face for five minutes? Front facing cameras are about the most overrated features on a phone anyone can come up with.

          • Anonymous

“Front facing cameras are about the most overrated features on a phone anyone can come up with.” I vote for FM tuners being more useless. 🙂

          • Anonymous

I mean knock it all you want but there are a ton of people who would like to chat face to face, from their phones. My girl has the i*hone and she uses it, but not very often. The reason it isn’t very often is b/c she can only talk to other people with an i*hone… if I had a front facing camera on my DX, then it would be used a lot. Not for every call or situation, but what starts out as a novelty (swype) can quickly become more useful once you figure out other applications for it. It’s not something that’s needed but people will find a use for it and it will be one more selling point for some.

      • Michael_NM

Agreed. I can see using a front-facing camera once for the novelty, but after that it would likely be idle. Besides, nobody wants to see my ugly mug anyway.

        • Anonymous

Also good for photoing yourself for MMS.

          • If you think you need a front facing camera to take pictures of yourself, you desperately need a life

      • NebulaOcton

I can see value in facial recognition software the keeps your phone locked until it “sees” your face. It could be done with a rear facing camera but it would be harder to do.

    • Yeah, I’m not going to buy a new phone unless it has a front facing camera and I don’t care what anyone thinks.

  • I personally would love it if Google made a Nexus Two that is available on ALL carrier. I would gladly buy an unsubsidized device if it meant quick updates and a true Google experience.

  • bkj216

I'm waiting for the first VZ LTE phone with a 4 inch+ screen

  • Michael_NM

After a couple of weeks with the Droid X, I don't think I can back to a smaller screen. Will wait for LTE, but not patiently…

  • BloodiedWraith

I'm in an interesting position – I'm going to upgrade my own line to the HTC Lexikon (or whatever they name it) and use it. It looks great, minus the Bing. And then when something better comes out, I can always just upgrade my line and then give the HTC to my wife since it's perfect for her. Win-win situation for me.

  • Yes, something with absolute stock Android…though I highly doubt we'll be seeing that ever again. I mean, think about it: The Droid was stock but is now the only phone at VZW that doesn't have a skin slapped on it. You have the X and D2 with Blur and all the HTC phones. The G2 is the only stock phone I've seen in a while!

  • I love the look of the new lekikon phone. But im kinda disappoiinted with the 5mp and no front facing camera.

  • tbaybe

it looks pretty, but i need more info….

    • Mrpicolas

Lol.. that's how I picked my wife shhh… don't tell her that

      • Anonymous

So let me get this straight Mr. Picolas, you picked your wife (Stock) over the High Maintenance Women (Skinned Moto Blur/HTC Sense) Nice work LMAO!!!! How you doing Mr Picolas?? 🙂

      • tbaybe

        lmao your horrible!!!!!

      • Isn't that how everyone picks a wife?

  • Something Without Blur or Sense please.

  • D2 = Locked Bootloader = NO WAY!
