Samsung Fascinate Comparison Charts

We try to focus as much of our energy as we can on the Droid family of smartphones, but it’s hard for us to argue against the buzz and hype surrounding the Samsung Galaxy S lineup.  And as of September 8th, you’ll be able to purchase the Verizon version aka the Fascinate and thought it was only fair to provide you with some comparison sheets to not only the Droid lineup, but to other Galaxy S devices in case you were considering one.

The Galaxy S comparison including the Epic 4G…

Further detail on the Galaxy S line plus an i*hone mention…

Anyone jumping the Droid ship for the Fascinate?

  • Droidzilla

I wouldn't jump ship for this, but I just might for the Galaxy Tab. Same specs with a 7″ SAMOLED. If the Notion Ink Adam wasn't coming out (along with the Moto and perhaps Google tabs), I would probably be all over it.

Top photo isn't the updated specs for the DInc

  • Sjobs

no the chart is correct. 2.1 does not support the full amount of ram in the DroidX. The 2.6.32 kernel allows for “HIGHMEM support for RAM >256MB”

8GB of RAM? are you high?

  • Rich G

16 gb preinstalled on the Droid 2???

  • Sjobs

no the chart is correct. 2.1 does not support the full amount of ram in the DroidX. The 2.6.32 kernel allows for “HIGHMEM support for RAM >256MB”

I'll never fully understand why they would ship it with 2.1 when 2.2 was available, maybe to sell more D2s?

the bing part sucks but i do like the phone

  • Andrew Valladolid

i cant wait for this phone….dont mind the search provider being bing……

  • CompCrash

I almost don't want to touch it becuase of bing. I would have to spend the first hour of the phone getting rid of that stuff. Bing, bing maps, VZ Nav, and a few others.

The whole my processor is faster than yours atttitude is a little moot onsidering how a lot of people are underclocking their android phones anyway…

  • http://twitter.com/Whiteshadow443 Zach White

you gotta admit, its a pretty badass phone

  • PsychoticPenguin

Sorry to go off topic but…..

I'm curious why the DX only has 256MB of RAM as stated above? Everyplace I look, except here, has it with 512?

It makes no sense for the DX to only have 256 and the D2 to have 512, on this page on the forums http://www.droid-life.com/2010/06/25/official-d… it states 512 as well, but the spec sheet above states 256?

    • Mrpicolas

That chart is wrong its an older one that has been updated since

      • Picodroid

Mrpicolas… something tells me you're a VZW employee, seeing as you already know it's been updated. If you are, be careful with all this stuff you post.

        • Mrpicolas

no i am not a vzw employee but i do have sources that i can tap into when need be

    • Geri O

I keep seeing the Droid X listed as having 512 onboard RAM. This is wrong. It has 8gigs of onboard RAM.

Check the specs as listed by Verizon.

  • jedijesus95

I just hate how the app drawer is just like the iphones. Can I switch that or use a different launcher? And I was hoping for 8 gig onboard.

  • Mandark

The only thing that I see is that with each new release they load these up with Crapware. The LG Ally is the last Verizon android phone to not have any crapware on it. This is objectively speaking the one-up that Apple has on Android phones, the iPhone is the iPhone is the iPhone and it comes preloaded with stock apps and that's it.

  • http://profiles.yahoo.com/u/PP2KC2NKYXJ5AUNAJWRZTBRPUA Matty G

Why oh why the hell does big red insist on trying to shove V Cast and their other shitty apps down our throats? In no way shape or form would VZ Nav be better than Google Maps. VCast video needs to die as well…as if they don't get enough money from the (now mandatory) data plans as it is

  • Sarcastic

What does it mean by “Mobile Web 3.0″?

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=710530141 Tyler Buchanan

I don't really understand how switching from my D1 to a Fascinate would be any different from switching from a D1 to a DX in terms of Droid, other than the advertising… And the fact that the Fascinate doesn't have a locked bootloader… Idk if I consider getting one of these “jumping off the Droid ship”. In terms of functionality, its more Droid than some of our members (I'm looking at you, DX and your bootloader)

  • http://www.facebook.com/Maui62 Tony Williams

I'm kinda depressed that the ORIGINAL Droid is being left out of comparisons and most new information here… :(

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=710530141 Tyler Buchanan

Well, considering that you can't buy it any more, it would be kind of stupid to include it on something designed to be a buyer's guide…

  • http://twitter.com/msmarpledaisy Serenity Love

Is that correct 384 Ram? So can someon tell me if this means Fascinate won't get the Gingerbread update? I want this one so much even without the keyboard. But if it won't receive anymore updates. It looks like I will end up getting the droid 2.

    • Picodroid

According to all of this information, yes, only 384mb of RAM. That doesn't completely rule out 3.0. The leaked/rumored specifications for Android 3.0 were apparently just “suggested” specifications, not minimum. So it may possibly get 3.0 in the future. But really, if you're planning on buying a phone now with the hopes of getting 3.0 on it you're focusing too far ahead. At the earliest the first phones to get 3.0 probably won't be until December at best, most likely January or February of next year.

      • http://twitter.com/msmarpledaisy Serenity Love

Thanks so much for replying. I guess your right by then there will probably be phones with 2Ghz lol and I will be ready to buy one of those. Thanks for responding that definantly makes since to just focus on getting what I like. By the different leaks there are many more androids phones coming:) Again Thanks

    • Greenmountain565

Please someone tell me why it only has 384 Ram when all the other Galaxy phones have 512?????

  • Freakshow

Looks like the report is messed up. The vibrant/captivate have larger onboard memory than the facinate..that doesn't seem right..

The Droid X also is wrong for internal memory on this report.

    • Sjobs

no the chart is correct. 2.1 does not support the full amount of ram in the DroidX. The 2.6.32 kernel allows for “HIGHMEM support for RAM >256MB”

The Hummingbird has a much faster PowerVR GPU than the OMAP chip. Hummingbird is the fastest SoC around right now.

  • http://twitter.com/BlackTaxi2d Henry Sura

more like anybody considering jumping the verizon ship ? they're in bed with almost everybody now, putting these “featured applications” on every phone to get themselves more money. i love my droid x, but only because i hacked it. i don't know how much longer i can take this

  • Chris Nimon

I am definitely thinking of getting it. I can still see motorolas handprint on my face and for some reason the phrase “more lube please” keeps popping into my head.

  • Timoh

How can anyone make a flagship device and only give it 512mb or ROM.

    • Picodroid

Who said it's a flagship device? This isn't even a Droid branded phone. If anything it's just another Android offering by Verizon. As to why it's only got 512mb, beats me. Cost, most likely.

  • 1bad69z28

I was just watching a comparison of the Droid X and the Captivate, the hummingbird processor is just as fast as the omap.

  • Flyinion

    I love this bit……

    Featured Applications:
    VZ Navigator “pre-loaded”
Google Maps with Navigation “available in market”

Talk about navigation app fail. I wouldn't touch VZ Navigator again with a 100 foot pole after using Google Navigation.

    • http://www.twitter.com/dailydroidapp AndroFan

I came here to post exactly this…also note that even though Google maps is missing, Bing maps is preloaded…wtf? Is VZW hopping out of bed with Google, and into bed with MSFT? That would be a disappointment.

  • g35

    Search Provider Fail!

  • PyroHoltz

How does the Hummingbird processor stack up to a Snapdragon chip?

    • villian1998

Really? I have no idea what those words mean… I want numbers

      • http://www.twitter.com/dailydroidapp AndroFan

Unless you know about pixel processing and MFLOPS, the processor speed numbers won't help you: they all run at 1Ghz.

      • Judasmachine

think of it as three vehicles that all have to drive to the same place. they all travel at 60MPH, but are different efficiencies. one can carry four people, another six people, and the last eight people. the one that carries 6 people (instructions/data) is the most efficient, especially since there is a speed limit of 60MPH (1GHz.)

        • Judasmachine

er the one that can carry 8 people is the most efficient. stupid typo.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=710530141 Tyler Buchanan

      From what I've gathered:

      Hummingbird
      TI-OMAP
      Snapdragon

I think I'd take a Hummingbird over a Snapdragon definitely (much newer processor as well, the Snapdragons have been out forever), and that 4″ Super AMOLED display is gorgeous.

  • Madcow06

I thought the droid x had 512mb of ram not 256?

    • kellex

Yeah big fail there by VZW.

      • http://twitter.com/Whiteshadow443 Zach White

        Why bing though why?

      • thescreensavers

        +1

I read 256 and completely freaked out lol.

    • Timoh

They also say No on Kindle but it's right there in my bloatware.

  • Rizzidy

I wish these comparison charts were more up-to-date.

  • http://www.ItsTechKnowledgy.com Colin S.

Basically loses to the Droid family in my opinion

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=710530141 Tyler Buchanan

… How? Give me an objective reason, and please, for the love of God, don't sound like a fanboi

      • http://www.twitter.com/dailydroidapp AndroFan

This is correct. Being objective, there is no metric by which the Fascinate is inferior to any of the Droids. I'm waiting for the Evo CDMA (with the 1.5 Ghz dual core Scorpion proc). I really want a front-facing camera.

        • Anonymous

not to nitpick but the Sprint EVO is CDMA. and as far as the hummingbird goes, Clock for clock it is no faster than the Snapdragon or OMAP in the CPU section. The GPU is a good deal faster though. 2 to 3 times depending on the benchmark tool. About the same magnitude as the Snapdragon to the OMAP.

          • Anonymous

Just remember that the Ghz means absolutely nothing between different architectures. That what people always forget.

          • Anonymous

Snapdragon, OMAP, Hummingbird and Apples A4 (and the SoC in the 3GS) are all based on the same architecture (Cortex A-8)

          • boss

the snapdragon and the 3gs are both 65nm soc, the rest are 45nm

      • http://www.ItsTechKnowledgy.com Colin S.

No fanboy at all. I love android honestly, but def not a droid brand fanboy. Honestly I didn't realize the hummingbird had a faster graphics chip which was one of my main thoughts…the fact that the hummingbird is, from what everyone is saying, pretty significantly faster, changes things a bit, but I still like the higher res on the droids and I'm def a hardware keyboard guy.

  • http://twitter.com/namebrandon Brandon Harris

Waiting for the actual arrival so I can compare the Droid X and Fascinate in person.

  • Mrpicolas

I may pick one up for the wife so ivan steal her incredible lol…

    • TheMan876

A Russian is going to steal your wife's phone?

      • Mrpicolas

        Lol…. No I ment I can steal it :-)
