Tip: Not Seeing Podcasts in Google Play Music App? Hit the Refresh Button.

If you have yet to see the Podcasts section show up in your Google Play Music app, a simple tap on the “Refresh” button in settings should force it to arrive. Seriously, just pop into your app, slide out the side navigation menu, tap on Settings and then “Refresh” and you should then see the option for Podcasts just under Music Library. 

This same trick worked for the family plan when it arrived as well.

If that trick doesn’t work, then maybe you need to update your Google Play Music app first. You can grab the newest version here (v6.7.2712Z.2783167).

    Thanks. I’ve been looking for the Podcasts every day since it was released. It never showed up. I was excited to try out your tip, but wouldn’t you know, when I went into GPM, Podcasts was finally there.

    The podcasting is so simple and basic it simply doesn’t meet my needs. I won’t be switching from Pocket Casts anytime soon.

    Google Play Music on iOS got Sleep before the Android version, but it’s also buried in Settings. Who’s in charge of usability and design for this app?

    Have they finally fixed the inconsistency in color within the Play Music app? The title bar in the settings is a more vivid shade of orange than the rest of the app, and matches the iOS app.

    The casts were janky. Typed in the name of the cast but really had to type in artist name. Then after finding a second cast there was seemingly no subscription option.

    Now if they’d just update the Android Auto part of the app to add a Podcasts section, we’d be all set. Back to PocketCasts. *sigh*

          Dunno. But it’s just an app and it’s just a podcast. They’ll have to submit their podcast, that’s all.

    Good looking out Kellex. Been waiting on this. Guess I’m going to have to wait longer though, as Kevin and Bean podcast is not on there yet. 🙁

    This is ridiculous that google would make someone go into their app and click refresh……. an app update would have worked better……. folks can spend the next few months without ever knowing that they need to click the refresh button or worse, they could spend however long it takes for the next version of play music app to get updated to.

      I get your sarcasm; however, my Google Play Music app did update to the new look but the podcasts weren’t there. No it’s not a big deal, but it’s definitely not intuitive that you have to go in and refresh things after the app itself has updated.

    Thanks Kellen for the tip, it worked. But this is ridiculous for people that don’t know about this tip and wanted podcasts activated in GPM. It’s this stupid things Google does that plays into the hands of Apple.

      This is not a stupid thing that Google does, this is just application caching. I agree that most people don’t know about this, but it’s not Google’s fault for trying to make app loading more efficient with caching.

        It is stupid for that reason where once the app is opened, it should AUTOMATICALLY refresh. Another example is when my old Credit card had fraudulent charges, I let the account lapse. When I then entered the new CC, the music that I had saved to playlists didn’t refresh, until 1/2 day later I figured that I needed to manually refresh. Poor execution from Google.

    Does anyone know how to subscribe to RSS feeds of paid podcasts? Freebeerandhotwings.com needs to be listened to!

      I think they have to submit their Podcast to Google. At this point I don’t think you can add your own. I’ve sent emails to a couple of podcasts suggesting they submit theirs.
