If you’re someone who is pinning a lot of conversations inside of Google Messages, prepare for a big change coming your way soon. As uncovered in a fresh beta build of the app, Google is changing the total amount of conversations you can pin, as well as giving them a fresh new look with more emphasis on the contact.
As of right now, you can pin up to 20 threads, which does feel a bit like overkill. The update will limit the amount of pins to six, but going a step beyond that, Google is refreshing the UI for said pins. As we can see below, the six pinned conversations get a new home at the top of your conversations list.

These pinned messages show contact photos, plus a preview of incoming messages from them. It actually looks like a sticky note to my eyes. It’s unknown if themes you have applied to the individual chats will dictate what new messages look like for the pinned conversations, but that would be a nice touch.
As you could probably guess by looking at your own app, this change is not yet live, but should be if Google’s internal and beta testing goes smoothly.
Thoughts on the new look?
