It was last week when a developer with a strong track record on early information into Android projects noted that the light system on the Pixel 11 series’ backside might not be called Pixel Glow. Instead, it would be called HiLight. Today, a marketing slide appears to confirm that.
The slide, either from Google France or a French retailer, shows a Pixel 11 Pro Fold with HiLight lit up with the Google colors. Above the device we have the following.

When your smartphone is face down, HiLight discreetly illuminates when your favorite contacts call you or you chat with Gemini.
The use case described by Google makes plenty sense. Should your phone be placed anywhere face down, HiLight provides a visual cue that a favorited contact is attempting to reach you. Or if you’re interacting with Gemini, HiLight will illuminate.
Pixel Glow seemed to be a fine name, so we’re not entirely sure why HiLight is getting the nod. I’m sure Google has its reasons.
Pixel 11 series is set to be announced on August 12.
