Just a quick heads-up, but to those of you on Verizon who own a Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6 Edge+, S6 Edge, or regular S6, you should be on the lookout for a new update. In fact, the updates were posted yesterday and may have already arrived on your device. If so, just know that they are security patches and nothing more, according to Verizon’s support site.

Early this morning, Samsung officially announced the Android Nougat rollout schedule for its line of devices. The company acknowledged that Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge updates started January 17 (in specific regions and carriers), but also shared the time frame for other devices, including the Galaxy S6 line and the Galaxy Note 5. To end 2016, Verizon is sending out a wave of security patches to most of its flagship phones. The batch of updates are available this week for the HTC 10, Moto Z family, Galaxy Note 4, Note 5, Note Edge, Galaxy S5, S6, S6 Edge, and S6 Edge+.

The Verizon Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge are receiving updates today to software version VRU4CPH1 that seem to have focused primarily on improving WiFi and HD Calling on Big Red’s network.
The updates should reduce the number of dropped WiFi voice calls, include a pop-up reminder during video calls disclosing incoming data usage, improve HD Voice call volume, etc. There aren’t any new features necessarily, as you can see here. The full changelog is below. (more…)

Verizon will begin pushing an update to the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge this morning that should fix a couple of nagging bugs, while tweaking some behaviors on the side.
The updates are rolling out as version VRU4CPD2 for each and can be pulled for installation by heading into Home>Applications>Settings>About Device>Software updates. These aren’t massive updates, but you will want to grab them sooner than later. (more…)
Samsung, because Google is about to have a hell of a day at I/O, dropped its own bit of news this morning related to Samsung Pay, its widely accepted mobile payment solution. Starting today, Samsung Pay now accepts users’ reward and membership cards, helping save money and accrue points all within a single payment app. (more…)
