Deal: Sony Xperia Z Ultra Google Play Edition on Sale for $349.99

Recently, Google removed the Xperia Z Ultra GPE from Google Play, leaving only a few devices on the site for Android lovers to purchase. In a close-out sale, Expansys looks to be clearing their shelves of the device as well, pricing it at a complete steal of just $349.99. That’s quite the savings off of its original retail price of $649.99.

The Z Ultra Google Play Edition is still a formidable device, and the only reason we could imagine it would be priced so low is that it simply wasn’t selling very well. It’s a rather large device, featuring a 6.4″ 1080p display, Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, 8MP shooter with EXMOR sensor, microSD storage slot, and is water resistant.

Considering the device retailed for $649.99 at first launch, and that it’s not available through Google Play anymore, this is a complete steal.

I checked with Google and they will continue to update this phone even though it’s been removed from Google play! Can’t wait for Android L! If you can deal with the size and above average camera this is a great deal!

  • Green2u

But will this ever get updated to Android L (and beyond) or does this End of Life for the device mean no more Google updates?

  • did anyone buy it? I’ve never even heard of this site… is it trustworthy?

    • Nick

I bought mine from there and I was a bit skeptical of the site too, since I hadn’t heard of it. The site is totally legitimate and I’m typing out my response on my own Z Ultra GPE. Absolute bargain, definitely go for it!

      • Awesome, thanks man! I’ll purchase after this next paycheck!

  • True Radiant Free

Amazing deal. Got mine a few weeks back for $449. It really is the ultimate device to replace both phone and tablet.

Thanks for the heads up. Bought out!

Will this thing work on Verizon?

      Nothing works on Verizon.

If you can get your hands on a OnePlus One invite, it has better specs all around and still a pretty large screen for this price. Just got my invite on Tuesday and ordered yesterday. Invites seem to be rolling out much much faster now.

    • Bane

Haha. People seriously need to stop with the OnePlus One suggestions. Your’e not going to get an invite, not any time soon. Get over it and move on. No one disputes that it’s a great phone for the price, but getting one is a different matter entirely.

      • Grayson

Well, I got one, and I didn’t win one of the contests or anything. Was just signed up as a OnePlus forum member. So it is possible to get one. At some point, they will give those of us who bought one invites to share, and then the invites will really start flooding out. I will probably just drop mine on DL comments or something.

        • Bane

It’s also possible to win the State Lottery. Someone usually does, but it’s rarely you.

      • James

I might dispute that. I agree it’s a great phone for the price…for now. But with how things have gone so far, I’m not very confident about the support down the line.

    • Just sayin

Man, OnePlus employees sure are hitting DL comments hard the last couple days….

Better specs all around? No. Pure Android with direct updates from Google? No. microSD card slot with support for 128 GB which I have? No. 6.4mm thin? No. FM Radio which can be enabled using the Spirit Unlocked app? No. Large enough screen to read text without zooming in like a tablet? NO.

      • Mike Reid

I’ll see if I can fix the FM issue. 🙂

        • True Radiant Free

Hi Mike, I think you misunderstood my comment. I was saying no to everything meaning that the One Plus One can’t do those things while the Sony Z Ultra GPe CAN do those things! 🙂 I am glad you answered though, as I have been wanting to thank you for the Spirit app! It works so marvelously on the Z Ultra GPe thank you so much 🙂

      • Grayson

Pure Android with direct updates from Google? I wouldn’t call software a spec, but CM is about as close to pure Android as you can get, apart from going Nexus or GPE, so the experience will be similar.

microSD card slot? The OnePlus One comes with 64GB of storage for this price, so it doesn’t really need a microSD slot.

6.4mm thin? I would rather have thinner bezels.

FM Radio? Really? There are apps for that, even for phones without FM antennas.

More importantly, the OnePlus has a faster processor, more RAM, 64GB storage out of the box, a larger battery, a better camera, dual speakers, probably a better display, and is lighter and more pocketable while still having a large screen. So maybe not better for all use cases, but a lot of better specs for sure.

        • True Radiant Free

Software definitely is a spec, or else the OnePlusOne wouldn’t be touting its CM so much. Personally, I don’t like CM and pure Android directly from Google is more stable. I lot of people have complained about its lack of a microSD slot and I love the ability to have 128GB. The Z Ultra is super thin and it has thin side bezels. The FM radio I’m talking about is direct FM radio through radio frequencies and not incurring data charges or using Wi-Fi. You should check out the Spirit Unlocked app to see what I mean. Faster processor not by much and the camera on the Z Ultra is fine for me. The Z Ultra probably has a better display considering its 1080p and with X-Reality enhancement which makes it like a portable Bravia TV.Of course the OnePlusOne is lighter, because its smaller so that’s not even a valid argument. The Z Ultra GPe has a much larger screen, which I like better, while still fitting in the front pockets of even Levi’s Super Skinny and Skinny jeans. I have no problem with you liking the OnePlusOne, its your personal choice, and for me I don’t like it at all. It just seemed random for you to compare the two devices.

That thing is way too damn big…

Great deal if that’s the display size you want or need. I would buy this now if it was smaller. The Z1 and Z2 are the perfect size and the most I will go. Sony makes solid and gorgeous devices.

    • Bryan Mills

Too bad the camera sucks on this.

      • Bane

Sad, but true. I had the standard model and sent it back. Camera would be at least serviceable if there was a flash. But even in daylight, it’s disappointing.

        • Menger40

No flash?? $650 at launch? Ugh…

      • True Radiant Free

        It’s not that bad.
