If I update to 4.4.2 on my G S3 will u lose root access?

  • Dyfie

There’s no updation of 4.4 on my S3 . May i know why?

    • Dana Spallinger

I keep checking and my AT&T S3 hasn’t / doesn’t see any updates higher then 4.3. I try daily, but it keeps saying I have the latest.

  • Anthony Johnson

I already updated this version of Android on my Galaxy S3 and like its light dialer and other improved features. Even the battery performance is also improved. Now after fully charged the device on wireless charger with receiver, it runs almost all day long with normal use.

My phone wont update my email now. I have verizon. Anyone know how to fix it

    • shsh

I have the same problem, and have not found an answer.

  • jessica

My S3 upgraded today to android 4.4 and I dont see half the things that have supposedly been upgraded. not to mention they took away one of my favorite features, which was the flash of the flashlight every time I got an incoming call. This helped me to locate my phone several times! I wish they wouldn’t have done away with that. All in all I am disappointed with the upgrade.

    • AndroidFanatic

jessica, there’s a setting for that. Go to settings->My Device->Accessibility->Flash notification. This should fix your problem.

      • jessica

Thank you AndroidFanatic, I found it and enabled the flash. Thank you again

  • loneryder

Just put Kit Kat on my S3 yesterday and now have serious reception problems. Using AT&T towers, it worked great before update. Now drops calls and won’t hold the signal. AT&T tech center says they have heard of these problems and can only change sim cards to hope it fixes the reception problem. Strongly recommend waiting!! Wish I had.

  • jj

I updated my galaxy s3 fron at&t to 4.4.2 kit kat yesterday. Now it just keeps crashing.it did update it .I downloaded an ap so i can check everything in the phone and the thing i found wss that the cpu is acting crazy.the phone will freeze then it’ll reboot

    • Tony

Got mine today, everything is working great!

    • Reva Artis

The same thing happens to me. What do I do. I hate this! !!!

  • Srikanth Reddy
  • Marilyn

Got mine. Looks / working great so far.

  • Difster

Get with it T-Slowbile. I’m waiting for my Galaxy 3 update.

  • Dav

Well…This update loses SD Card support for Apps and you also lose Flash Player support. I have support for both on 4.3. Don’t update unless you do not care about either.

  • bobbya0785

im not seeing the update on my device yet, i keep looking but nothing

    • AndroidFanatic

It depends on which carrier you have. I use At&t and they just released it last week.

  • boychik0830

    hope Verizon releases it soon

    • JoeTi

      Maybe in about 30-60 days…or so…

      • boychik0830

I do not like Samsung phones anymore because of my battery drain and lagging I have been having with 4.3. I got a replacement phone which is better but still not great. I cannot believe vzw or Samsung have not fixed our problems yet. this used to be one of the top of the line phones when it came out in 2012.

        • DrCacao

I don’t have any such problems. Maybe you need to check running apps and use a manager.

          • boychik0830

I have a s5 now with no problems at all

    • michael arazan

It was One month from when the Note 2 got it after the S3 got 4.3, so it’ll probably be 4-6 weeks now since the Note 2 got it first this time

    • deepen915
  • Jeffrey Fazal

for the update. I was eagerly waiting for this version of Android on my Galaxy
S3 from last year when it was introduced with the launch of Nexus 5. Once I fully
charged my Galaxy S3 on qi wireless charger, I will definitely update this
    version to explore more features.

  • Tanuj Chokshi

with what happened with the note 3 kit kat update, i wouldn’t recommend taking it for you sgs3 users

  • VinnyBoomba

This update has all but ruined my phone. Buggy & glitchy. Getting the same notifications over and over again. Have to hit power button several times to unlock it. I know people complained about Jelly Bean. Jelly Bean was a major change, but it seemed to do what it was suppose to do. Kit Kat has destroyed the usability of my phone, and the conspiracy theorist in me thinks it is full of planned bugs to get GS3 owners to update their phones. I was just talking last week about how I’m tempted to upgrade my phone, but it’s just been too perfect for me to want to get rid of it.

    • thajack

I’ve been running Cyanogenmod 11 on my GS3 from AT&T for quite some time now. I haven’t run into any issues. You’d probably like it better anyway… root and give that a shot.

      • VinnyBoomba

I should look into that. I’ve loved my S3 because it’s been flawless from the start, and I have little reason to look into a new phone. I didn’t root at first because I didn’t want to lose warranty, and I didn’t root after because I generally liked the software that I’d gotten use to. No reason not to now. Any idea how it impacts current apps or current data on the phone?

        • John Fernow

You can’t. 4.2.2 was the last time you could unlock the boot-loader for carrier GS3’s. You could root it, which would be nice, but you won’t be able to put a custom ROM on, and you likely won’t be able to fix many problems.

          • thajack

Interesting, @johnfernow:disqus. I did not know that. Thankfully I took care of mine before 4.2.2.

          • suttonmontreal

so thats why i can’t install cyanogenmod 11 on kit kat galaxy s3

      • Carlton Crasher

Take a look at CarbonRom cmbased…I had it on my vzw s3 so much more customization 🙂

      • suttonmontreal

Hi Vinny I’ve been trying to install Cyanogenmod 11 on my S3 running 4.4.2 and doesn’t work at all. do you know any way to do it right ?
see on 4.3 i was able to do it but not on Kit kat. i tried cyanogenmod installer on windows and also trhu CWM recovery Thanks

  • Nw_adventure

Nice to finally see this but my S3 now sits in a desk as I have moved on to the N3- S3 still a great phone though.

  • Rick O’Shea

So, that means that Verizon will be releasing the GS3 KK update tomorrow?

    • Magistos

Pfft, based on VZW’s history? Another month…or three.

      • hkklife

I predict that VZW will finally roll out that update in September-ish. T-Mo may never even bother to go through the cost & trouble to release it since they offered an LTE GS3 for a full year less than the other carriers (remember they started off with an HSPA GS3 in 2012 that was Exynos-based and support for those is already dead due to its RAM deficiency)

        • Anonymous

Um, please get your facts straight…the T999 HSPA GS3 from T-mobile has 2GB of RAM and is Qualcomm-based. Same situation with the LTE version, the T999L.

        • Rick O’Shea

I’ve always wondered why Verizon’s releases lag so far behind everyone else’s. The claim that they do more robust testing is total bull-hockey. My wife’s RAZR MAXX, and my friend’s RAZRs were rendered nearly useless after the last Verizon update. While there were some features added, there were more serious instability and battery sucking problems introduced by the last update.

Other Verizon update releases have introduced problems with our previous phones. Why does it take so freakin’ long for Verizon to update, if they are going to release [email protected] anyways?

      • Rick O’Shea

I guess my extreme sarcasm doesn’t get translated very well when sent into the interwebs. 🙂

        • Magistos

You know…I spent a couple minutes wondering. 🙂
And yet…you were dead on. DL today is reporting KITKAT for VERIZON S3!
I think you won the internet…or some kit kat bars. 🙂

          • Rick O’Shea

I had to laugh when I saw that … I was totally kidding, and then it actually came true!

I’m hoping that Scott (of Scott’s ROMs) puts together one of his CleanROMs from the new VZW KK build. That would be awesome!

  • ROR1997

I still hate that I got a Razr over the GS3. I had used the fascinate, which I liked so much I returned my Tbolt after a week for a Droid Charge, so I could’ve been fine with TouchWiz. Now I don’t think I can go back to it, which ruins their tablets and Notes for me. Ughhhh first world problems.

    • PoisonApple31

I don’t think anyone can come back to Samsung after having the Droid Charge. Unless someone got them a phone as a gift…You poor soul, that phone was terrible! $300/on contract initially!

      • S

I can’t go back to Samsung after the Galaxy Nexus. That and Touchwhiz, just me.

        • Tanuj Chokshi

I loved the Galaxy Nexus and the ShinyROMs

      • ROR1997

I got it while it was new but I think I only payed 199. I remember considering the Xperia Play because of the stock android and cool psp look. But when you think back to when LTE first launched, it was the Tbolt, the charge, and the Revolution. The Tbolt sucked, the charge sucked and the Revolution didn’t suck but LG was a total joke. There weren’t many options.

    • Carlton Crasher

My buddy started having issues with his Verizon s3 and went and traded for an original RAZR. He hated his life when I sent him that Verizon got the KitKat update and I think he’s stuck on 4.1.2 rofl

One of the world’s most popular phone is getting the update last. More reasons to not buy a Samsung phone!

    • guest

That’s the stupidest comment I’ve ever seen on the internet.

      • Dave

        • PoisonApple31

You have to see it to read it. Unless you have brail.

Now I have the stupidest comment!

          • Tanuj Chokshi

    • Jaden Keuten

you’re complaining about it getting 4.4 when it’s 2 years old? where’s the Xperia Ion and HTC One X updates to even 4.3?

    • Ernie Park

      lick my ballsack

  • enjoi_me

Why can’t they release 4.4.3 instead of 4.4.2 when they have delayed it this long?????

    • athom07

because then the process would start all over, and 4.4.3 would be delayed for a long time.

      • enjoi_me

But 4.4.3 is a major bug fixer from 4.4.2 especially with the Bluetooth problems everyone is having on 4.4.3, Can’t wait to hear all the bugs everyone is having on this release

        • enjoi_me

          having on 4.4.2**

          • PoisonApple31

No problems with Bluetooth on 4.4.2 with my Note 3 – in fact with the update my car is now auto-reply texting when it wouldn’t on jellybean.

        • Most of those bug fixes relate to Nexus devices.

    • malcmilli

because this update was in the works before 4.4.3 was released? Would you prefer them to have started over from scratch and delay it even further?

  • Mudokon83

GAH, just replace AT&T with Verizon for Gods Sake! gahhhhh

    • Carlton Crasher

I will say after vacationing in several places since I’ve had at&t, Verizon had these places beat. yeah I know their hspa network is great but when its no signal inside of all shopping centers vs Verizon I rarely lost LTE in these spots its very annoying, but that phone selection on Verizon makes me mad. nexus devices…

      • Tony

Don’t know where your shopping. I have at&t and a galaxy s3 and have never been in a mall or any other building that I didn’t have service! In fact, I am due an upgrade so I went to Best Buy and tried all the new phones out. I heard everybody talking about how great the boom speakers are on an HTC M8 so I had the salesman download a song on youtube and guess what it sounded just as good on my old s3! I think these people are just getting paid by cell phone companies! I think I will just keep my old s3 until it breaks and save the money!

        • Carlton Crasher

I think my note 3 has the best speakers to date as far as quality in what I’ve owned. Verizon droid 2/verizon bionic/verizonRAZR maxx/vzw galaxy nexus/Verizon s3/at&t nexus 5 at&t note 3

  • Stephen

    meanwhile, at verizon…..
