Sprint Galaxy S3 Receiving Kit Kat Today

galaxy s3

Now that the Samsung Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3 have received Kit Kat (on most carriers – sorry Verizon customers), it’s time to start moving towards the Galaxy S3, since Sammy promised an update for the 2-year old device. Sprint appears to be one of the first out of the gate with an Android 4.4 update, letting us know that it is ready in the form of build L710VPUCND8.

Sprint’s own support site shows that the update has been approved for rollout as of May 1, which is today.

Be on the lookout for the update. You can check for it by heading into Settings>More>System update>Update Samsung software>Check new.

Once we have a decent changelog, we will update this post.

The chargers for Samsung Galaxy S are some of the most basic
but essential accessories for your S4. One of the finest options available in
the market is the Galaxy S dock USB charger which is a great choice for all
lovers of smart phones, as it allows you to quickly power your phone at the
same time to synchronize. They are elegant, and very easy to use. You need to
connect the USB to the charger, plug-in the USB adapter in the dock, put the S in
the dock and then will let you know when your phone is fully charged. For more

Yes chargers are very important, that’s why people should avoid buying third party, chinese clone supplies that will dump loads of EMI noise on your mains supply, will fail suddenly and could fry your device if it’s attached when it happens, and could possibly burn your house to the ground at the same time.

Buy OEM, from Reputable dealers and be aware that there are OEM Clones designed to look like originals, just because it looks original, doesn’t mean it is.

  • Jeffrey Fazal

    I took a
great decision not to choose Verizon while purchasing Galaxy S3. I am on sprint
and I got the notification of update on my device. Once my device gets fully
charged on qi charger , I will definitely update this latest version on my
    device.

  • Lou

Cool for Sprint…. I did my daily check for update on my Verizon GS3 and an update was available ( Link on Verizon Samsung Galaxy S3 page and key improvement :Allows roaming to Canada (TELUS) network …big whoop… ) ….so I download and install and let run its update and upgrade just in case there is something else good in there…..and looks like that’s it, still on 4.3 :( ….so no KitKat love for Verizon GS3 just yet….

  • Abu Ayman

Great news, waiting for the update on GT-I9300

  • Drew Alford

Verizon is pushing out Kit-Kat for the S3, I am currently installing the system update; just FYI.

    • red_greenlight1

I’m on Verizon and the latest update didn’t bring upgrade my S3 to Kit-Kat. I’m still on Jellybean.

Honestly about to switch providers because of the lack of this kit kat update that Verizon is playing around with. Wonder if I decided not to pay they ass how soon they’d cut my phone off

When will virgin mobile get the update on s3

    • lefty

      LOL

  • Sacchin Thomas

I have an update on my Verizon S3. Any ideas on what’s included in it Kellex?!

  • cruzfl0w

If this is true, I may just hold on to my s3 a little longer. I’ve tried a few KitKat Roms and boy does the phone fly. I was extremely impressed with the performance improvement KitKat brings. Sadly, the ROMs bugs were too much for me to deal with so 4.3 it is for me. For now…. Damn Verizon, speed up you’re updates.

    • Mudokon83

i was the same way, i loved having the latest 4.4 on my Verizon S3 with various ROMS, but camera crashes and requiring restart in CM 11, along with other issues, compelled me to go back to unrooted with 4.3, which I didn’t realize locks it up with KNOX.

So now I’m hoping for 4.4 soon for my S3.

      • cruzfl0w

Damn, that sucks. Why didn’t you just flash a 4.3 ROM? I went to clean rom and just recently flashed alliance and am happy. But I can’t wait until I can get a stable 4.4.

        • Mudokon83

i stupidily didnt check online, if you have verizon s3 and got the 4.3 OTA update, you also put KNOX on your phone which will brick if you root and try and load 4.1 or 4.2 on it. The only thing you can do is SAFEROOT and dual boot it with another ROM – except it has to be a touchwiz rom.

  • Jeff

Kellex…. Just getting an update on Verizon…

    • Jeff

It was nothing big.. was not kit kat.. damn..

      • red_greenlight1

        Yep not Kit-Kat.

    • Justin

You gotta S3 Jeff? If so it’s a you can roam on the Telus network in Canada :-) Build NC1.

  • EvanTheGamer

Who cares about the outdated SGS3? What about Verizon’s bloody Galaxy Note 3? I mean, what gives?

Obviously I’m aware of how slow Verizon is with getting out the updates for their phones, but still. Maybe every owner of the GN3 should call Verizon and complain. Maybe that will get them to move a bit quicker with releasing updates.

    • Justin

They are busy providing updates to feature phones, updates for the Droid Charge, Nexus, tablets, smart watches, the S3 and Note 2 need KitKat, their corporate offices need new vending machines, the parking spaces need repainting, the NBA banned the Clippers owner from the NBA (he also talked bad about the Note 3 on Verizon), the QA team also needs vacation and some quality r&r in Europe. So it’s just a matter of a few years before they provide an update for the Note 3 to prepare it for KitKat, then they need to test the actual KitKat build before it’s pushed OTA.

      • EvanTheGamer

        Unacceptable.

And a few years? Right. Lies. All lies.

        • Justin

It’s ridiculous. It’s just because they want to strip certain features and add more bloat (but it won’t play nice) and take away tap to pay and they want isis wallet on there and the bootloader locked down tighter, blah blah blah.

          • EvanTheGamer

Yeah, it’s a mess. And it sucks.

Kinda wish I had just decided against getting the GN3(don’t get me wrong, I love the beast of a phone, although, it absolutely does have its cons as all phones do), and then waited to get the OnePlus One, which I’ve been hearing great things about. But can’t do anything about it now as I won’t be able to get another upgrade until sometime next year.

          • Justin

I hear ya, it is awesome, a few quirks here and there. But it sucks I still don’t and can’t have access to certain apps that I want to use because I don’t have 4.4, I’d love the charging notification to be fixed regarding using an oem Samsung charger when I am using it, and for bluetooth to be fixed (which in the leaked build everyone says it is) as well as some other things. But, I guess I just got it on the absolute wrong carrier.

          • Guest Poster

I do regret getting the Note 3. And I regretting going to Verizon. Luckily, I have some disposable income, do ditching them and Android (the issue is Android, not necessarily Samsung) isn’t going to be an issue.
Too bad Apple can’t release that 4.7″ iPhone sooner. It’s the only thing keeping me from jumping ship at the moment.
I have never used a flagship phone that took such terrible pictures outside of near flawless lighting conditions. Until I got this phone.

The Execs are still too busy spending their end of year bonus’ from last year and figuring out what to do with their 8 weeks of vacation time.

It’s a Hard Knox Life for VZW Execs

        • Justin

That’s for sure! They need to get their s**the together.

  • KChristainsen

    Hell yeah!

  • RJ

The DNA just got the 4.4.2 update as of today!

  • Mark Schleupner

Happy for Sprint S3 users. Enraged at Verizon. I have a Note 3 on Verizon. Every other carrier has Kit Kat for the “Flagship” Note 3 phone. The S3 is what, two generations old and getting Kit Kat?!? C’mon Verizon – get your act together!!

    • Marsg

Telling Verizon to get there act together is like telling a brick wall to move. Words falling on deaf ears.

  • Dave

After using the device with both versions, I fell dumb for being so impatient. There is virtually no huge difference.

    • http://www.droid-life.com/ Steve B

Immersive mode! Transparency in the Google Now launcher!

    • Justin

Dave, I want KitKat on my Verizon Note 3, so I have the updated api levels, drivers, better ram management and a smoother OS overall. , it’d be great to have access to the new Google now launcher, the new Google camera, Acdisplay, and some others, but oh. …. Wait. … I can’t because Verizon is a bunch of incompetent monkeys asses and can’t seem to figure out the Note 3 KitKat update. Time for them to hire on some Sprint, T-Mobile, AT&T and US Cellular QA team members to show them how the hell it’s done. Embarrassing Verizon.

  • aggressor2323

My Verizon Samsung Galaxy S3 just received an update last night but it was not Kit Kat. I believe it only updated the kernel version and its still Android 4.3.

    • Eurasianman

I got an update too. According to Verizon’s website, all it does is allow roaming to Canada (TELUS) network.

      Yay! /sarcasm

    • Justin

Yea it’s an update to roam on the Telus network in Canada. We can see where Verizon’s priorities are. …. Instead of dedicating time to a fall 2013 flagship, they decided to work on updates for every other phone than the Note 3. Droid DNA? Check! G2? Check! HTC One (M7)? Check! Droid line? Check! S4? Real late… But Check! Galaxy S3 Canada roaming. .. Yah!! Check ayeeee!!! Probably a Samsung Nexus 4.3 update first as well and even the old red headed step-child that has been kicked out of Verizon’s house (Droid Charge) are probably a priority to first get an update before the much younger, very red headed freckled knee high sock think glasses girly voiced step-child Note 3.

  • Cael

A 2 year old phone getting updates? Is HTC taking notes?

    • Chris King

      How old is DNA

      • Cael

The DNA isn’t even 2 years old yet, it was released in Nov 2012. It’s already been confirmed that it won’t be getting any J flavored updates and based on the leaked upgrade sheet, it doesn’t appear it will get Sense 6.0 either.

        • Chris King

Ah don’t follow HTC that closely so the rezound must have came first I was thinking other way around

          • Cael

Yeah it came in Nov 2011 and support was dropped after 9 months. There were only 2 things wrong with it: battery life and snapdragon s3.

          • Guest Poster

The Snapdragon S3 was fine. The display and LTE Radios were the issue, and that’s why it had poor battery life. The GS2 had a powerful CPU but the display was a lot more efficient and the lower resolution pushed the processor less than others. The Rezound (720p), Vivid (qHD), LG Nitro HD (720p), Xperia ion (720p) all had issues with battery life and used the same CPU. The ion even had a 1900 mAh battery and the battery life was terrible. Samsung’s Skyrocket fared quite a bit better than most of those because it used a WVGA screen resolution SAMOLED panel.
Phones with those screen resolutions were a bit ahead of their time. If they had released in 2012 with S4 SoC and newer LTE radios they’d have performed quite a bit better in the battery life department.
Also, Sense 3.5/3.6 was buggy as hell. And bloated. TouchWiz was lighter back then, even.

          • Cael

The S3 is the reason the phone didn’t get jelly bean.
Battery life was because HTC doesn’t know the meaning of big batteries in terms of mAh instead of size.

        • Justin

At least it got KitKat….my Note 3 sits and sits and sits at 4.3 restrictions. Wanna use 4.4 apps? Nope! Sorry. Every other phone can… Just not the Note 3.

          • Cael

And the Note 3 will more than likely get L & maybe M flavored desserts. It’s not like you’re going to get it next year and then no more updates for you so relax.

          • Justin

Oh your right. I’ll relax. It won’t get updates to L and M flavored desserts at this rate Cael. Two years will be up and Verizon will only be able to get it 2 more updates during that time. Just bug fixers because apparently KitKat is such a major upgrade they can’t get it up and running on the Note 3. But no, there’s always restrictions on a lot of apps, such as the Google now launcher, Google camera, Acdisplay, etc. I’d like to be able too use them, so it’d be nice to have things accessible, since every other Note 3 can that has had KitKat for over 1-2 months now can. What phone do you have and what carrier?

          • Cael

Verizon is not the only carrier for the Note 3 in the world. You could very well be getting L flavored desserts with slow Verizon after the 2 year mark.

          • Justin

I highly doubt after 2 years Verizon will give the Note 3 an important update. Maybe a “look we added more amazon apps and now allow your phone to roam in Antarctica” kind of update. It’s all about money for them. What’s beyond enraging is the fact that the same OS has been available to other Note 3′s worldwide and here in the US for months. The same KitKat that was was sent to sprint, t-mobile, at&t, us cellular for the Note 3 was sent to Verizon. Excluding the bloat that each carrier wants added to it. So, again what carrier and phone do you have that your not a bit unsettled about 6 month old software not on your phone?

    • Joe Kivel

The S3 came out in July 2012, so it won’t be 2 years old for another 3 months. So it should get updated. If contracts last 2 years, so should the updates.

      • Cael

I was being a bit sarcastic about the 2 year old phone getting updates and then taking a dig at HTC.

      • michael arazan

Preorders started a full month before they shipped. You could preorder it In June 2012, ans it was shown off to the public in May.

  • Chris King

HUh sprint tmoble Merger might not be so bad

  • http://www.droid-life.com/ Steve B

Does this mean there’s hope for Verizon’s S3? I thought my wife was doomed to stay on 4.2 forever.

Her S3 is still kicking ass. The longevity of this phone is impressive. Performance is still snappy.

    • hkklife

I agree. Samsung had HUGE foresight to give the GS3 variant for NA 2GB of RAM at a time when everyone else was offering 1GB or less. Of course, the TW bloat chews up a ton but it still helps future-proof it. I am just curious to see if the other 3 carriers will offer KK for their S3s. I sorta doubt it, as they are probably hoping launch day GS3 owners from 2012 rush out to get a GS5.
On the other hand, there are a TON of GS3s out in service and they are still being sold new on contract and on prepaid carriers so it would make sense to get them all on KitKat before EOL.

      • Justin

Yup! Sprint pushed out KitKat 4.4.2 today for their S3…. Cmon Verizon, the almost 2 year old Galaxy S3 got KitKat and still nothing for the 6 month old Note 3!

    • ceejw

The Verizon S3 got 4.3 a while ago. If your wife is still on 4.2 you should update her phone.

      • http://www.droid-life.com/ Steve B

That’s what I meant. Should have said doomed to stay on Jelly Bean.

        • michael arazan

Last year before VZW s3 got 4.3 Samsung officially sad that the Note 2 and S3 would get KitKat after the S4 and Note 3 got it in the first quarter of 2014

    • Jeremiah Hawkins

My Note 2 on VZW doesn’t even have KK yet. Freaking Verizon… and they always tell customers its the manufacturer who is responsible for the update times

    • Justin

Ahh yea I’m sure the S3 and Note 2 will get KitKat only a day after the Note 3 gets it in 2016.

  • T4rd

Hopefully the Note 2 kitkat update is imminent then.

  • BDWilliams85

Verizon S4 has 4.4.2 do u guys not remember your article?

        Suck it, Trebek

        • Tyler Lawhon

That’s not what your mother said last night, Trebek.

      • Mudokon83

agreed, camera crashing all the time. should have just stuck to 4.3 CM and waited. oh well.

        • http://www.droid-life.com/ Steve B

That’s a shame. I’ve been watching the CM11 XDA thread for the S3 off and on, and it doesn’t seem like there’s much progress with stability. I’d like to upgrade my wife but the terrible signal and unreliable camera are deal breakers.

          • Mudokon83

yeah If i still had my Verizon S3 rooted, I’d stick with CM 10 until that was a guarantee, but yeah I want my S3 just fast and without bloat.

          • http://www.droid-life.com/ Steve B

Was CM10 stable? That was 4.3 right?

          • Mudokon83

correct. But there are also SLIMROM and minimalistic roms for s3 you could go with, again 4.3, but not touchwiz and therefore as close to stock android that you could get.

          • http://www.droid-life.com/ Steve B

            That blue though…

  • Tyler Lawhon

Wow good for them. S3 still kicking. I may update my girl’s S3 to 4.4 when it comes for VZW. But in custom ROM form of course. Don’t wanna lose that unlocked bootloader. ;)

    • Mudokon83

yeah I stupidily went from rooted and CM 11 on my Verizon S3 back to stock, because CM11 would crash the camera and other apps all the time.

Then I come to find out that Verizon S3 4.3 has KNOX which stops you from ever rooting again without needing to sideboot bla bla bla.

So now I’m just hoping for 4.4 for my S3 to at least justify it…

  • Jason Blomgren

    What the hell Verizon?
