According to a lucky reader of ours, Google opened up a beta test for its Chrome Remote Desktop app on Android within the last few days. The beta is invite only at this time, with invites rolling out to those who “expressed interest” in helping Chrome improve their remote desktop client. Like the Chrome extension, this app does indeed give you remote access to your desktop computers, only this time through Android devices (both phones and tablets).

The application listing on Google Play mentions that you can “securely access your computers from your Android device.” All you need to do is setup remote access on the Chrome Remote Desktop app from the Chrome web store, then open your remote Android app and tap on the computer you’d like to connect to.

Here are the screenshots from the Google Play page:

As you can see from those screenshots, the app is pretty bare bones. Then again, the whole point is to give you quick access to your desktop machines, not show off with a flashy UI. Also, it is still in beta, so there is a chance we’ll see the interface improve as it moves towards a stable build.

Since we can’t test the app ourselves, that’s what we know for now. As we have more, we’ll be sure to pass it along.

Cheers M!
