Galaxy S5 Pre-orders Open Tomorrow at AT&T for $199

galaxy s5

AT&T announced this morning that it will open up pre-orders for the Samsung Galaxy S5 starting tomorrow for $199 on-contract. Pre-orders can be made in-store or online, with shipments starting in “early April.” That’s right, no specific date has been set, but Samsung did mention April 11 during their big device unveiling back in February.

If you’d like to buy the phone at full retail, you will pay $649. You could also join AT&T Next 18 or AT&T Next 12 and spread that cost out over equal monthly payments of $25 and $32.50 per month, respectively.

In case you were wondering, this is the 16GB model, but it does support up to 128GB micro SD cards. AT&T will have both the black and white models.

In a related deal, you can save $50 off of a Samsung Gear 2 or Gear 2 Neo when you buy a Galaxy S5 from AT&T. This promo ends June 5.

MArch 24th TMOBILE pre-orders start april 11th shipment date from internal documentation.

      Pricing to come soon..

  • RaptorOO7

So no word on the 32GB announcement and I suspect we won’t until end of April or early May at the earliest. So is it $699 for a 32GB or $749 for a 32GB?

  • RaptorOO7

So where is the 32GB version or is that coming 3 months from now. Who the heck wants a 16GB device with 10GB of usable space?

  • Intellectua1

So if I decide to choose this phone I guess I’ll be waiting on the 32gb version like I did with the S4. Companies just need to kill the 16gb on board crap. 32gb should be the minimum in 2014.. Might just grab the Note 3 and later move on to the Note 4, I’m tired of waiting ..sigh..

  • Good_Ole_Pinocchio

So what you’re saying is this will be just like last year with the 32GB not being released at the same time? They sure do love annoying their customers

    • Gideon Waxfarb

Exactly. Why do they keep gimping these high-end smartphones with 16gb of storage? Even Apple gives its customers more options than that.

      • RaptorOO7

Because people are stupid and will buy the $50 cheaper version instead of thinking about storage and that you can’t put apps on the microSD anymore (without rooting). Plus the carriers want a “new” phone to launch a month later for a new surge in sales. I am personally waiting for the 32GB and won’t compromise.

  • wolfedude88

Im not buying one, but AT&T is only getting black and white? Dont they ever learn to release all colors to all carriers at once?

    • mcdonsco

Why would they when there are people out there that would buy a white / black one then 3 months later buy the blue one and sell their. first one.

Stupid, but I’m betting people do it.

    • RaptorOO7

The Blue and Copper/Gold colors are simply back plates they are not a fully colored device like the GS3 and GS4 models were.

      • wolfedude88

Not completely true. While the fronts look the same from pictures of the gold one the trim around the side is gold, so it wouldn’t just be the backplate

  • shooter50

First 11 comments are all negative, yet the S5 will far outsell the G3 and Z2 combined. I use a G-Flex and G2, but I’m a realist

    • Orion

Of course it will sell more. That argument goes without saying. But this phone is still……meh.

    • OF

What does sales have to do with quality? Justin Beiber sells millions of records….and I’m Canadian! There are and will be better phones released around the same time that wont sell anywhere near the S5. Quality>>>Quantity.

      • PoisonApple31

HD-DVD was the bomb! What happened?

  • fuzzymaths

Just hit 6 months on jump and looking for a reason to upgrade from my LG G2… Still can’t find one. This phone is a turd.

    • mcdonsco

The s5 is a turd or the g2?

      • fuzzymaths

The s5 is a turd. I love my G2. Who the hell wants physical buttons and a larger bezel?

        • but thanks though

          Millions…

          • The Narrator

Nobody said the people that want it are smart.

          • Hipster Troll Carwash

He didn’t say “who intelligent wants” he said “who wants” thus the answer “millions”.

            Idiot troll.

        • mcdonsco

Well I wouldn’t call it a turd, but i also wouldn’t upgrade from my g2 to this either.

Though, I did just upgrade from my g2 to the note 3 (2nd time having a note 3)…just got bored of it and the rear buttons, plus for my line of work the note is a better fit…

In 2-3 months I’ll likely change to something else again…I have an addiction.

        • Guest

How were the sales on that G2

          • fuzzymaths

I don’t usually buy something just because everyone else does, but I can understand why you would think that is important. Have you looked at the sales on the iPhone?

          • Intellectua1

No, I don’t normally pay attention to anything related to Apple

        • Intellectua1

Apparently over 40 million people want that.. BTW how’s sales on that G2 going??

    • The Narrator

Wait for the Sony Z2 or G3. Miles ahead of the S5.

  • Fry

    Nope.

  • Jeff718

On-contract… I’m so glad I’ve passed that point in my life (and thankful for Tmo having great service in my area).

    • mcdonsco

I just got the deal of the decade thanks to best buys incompetence.

I have verizon grandfathered unlimited data and I’m out of contract, month to month on an LG g2.

My sig other got me considering an iPhone (I know, I know!), so I went onto best buys website and was able to buy a 32gb 5s AT CONTRACT PRICING ($249) with in store pickup with their system showing my plan, data included, staying the same. I went in and got it, they activated it, I double checked my plan and contract status on Verizon site, still unlimited & still month to month.

Came to my senses when i found the iPhone couldn’t do simultaneous voice and data on Verizons network so I thought, what the heck…will this work again?

It did…wWith a note 3 this time..BUT, I went in to pick it up and the fu*$&r caught it…canceled the order…In my car in the parking lot I ordered it again but selected yo ship to my house… A few days later it showed up, ($199), with a simple installed. I swapped Sims from my g2 and poof I was up and running. This time however it DID put me back into contract and reset my upgrade date (but what do I care? I’m used to paying full retail anyway, and if verizon try to kill all grandfathered unlimited data at some point in the next two years, they can’t with me; I’m in contract :-)

Just sold the iPhone for $730, so after ebay fees made around $400 and selling the g2 now, and will likely get around $300+ for that.

So all in all made about $550+ and got a free upgrade to the note 3.

      Thanks best buy!

      • http://twitter.com/geoff5093 Geoff Johnson

Sold the iPhone for $730 and only pocketed $400? Why did you even use eBay?

        • mcdonsco

Minus the $250 it cost me in the first place.

          $730
          -$250
          =$480
          -ebay/PayPal fees
          = roughly $400

I REALLY HATE ebay and PayPal for their huge fees, but generally when I’m selling phones I need to get the money back in my account quick (usually paying full retail) and with ebay it sells fast…Craigslist I can get more, sometimes, but often takes WEEKS to sell and while it’s sitting there the value is dropping.

So, for phones, I continue to use ebay, though again, from a sellers standpoint, I really hate them…they rape their sellers.

          • http://twitter.com/geoff5093 Geoff Johnson

Gotcha, I read it as only took $400 away from the eBay auction.

        • Royal2000H

          I think he’s saying $730 – $249 (iphone price) – taxes/fees – ebay = $400.

          • mcdonsco

            Bingo

      • laheelahee

they could take away unlimited anytime they want, even if you have a 2 year contract. you just have the option to cancel w/o ETF, if they do so

        • mcdonsco

True…but might be able to get a better deal as a result on a new plan when/if it ever happens.

Plus, if at some other point I want to try this whole thing again, I could call Verizon and ask for proof that I signed the new contract and possibly get them to end the contract opening up the ability to try it again on best buys website.

      • Intellectua1

What’s still the big deal with unlimited? I don’t get it..

        • mcdonsco

Some months I use 5gb’s, some months close to 20gb’s. Hence…unlimited is a big deal to me.

You don’t need it? Good for you…I’m not you.

          • Intellectua1

Wow that is a lot. I’m mostly on wifi I guess that’s why I don’t get it. But I just changed my plan yesterday to unlimited talk and text with 10gb of data between 2 phones (which are both mine) for $123. I was originally paying $197 for both lines with 6gb data. Even though I don’t need 10gbs it’s good to have so I can stream more music on the go

          • mcdonsco

I use wifi too at home, but I’m often out an about for work and use data all day for emails, mms, looking things up online and hotspot.

I tried tmobile in my area to save money but data was horrible (spotty at best) so stuck with Verizon for the time being.

      • bd1212

Should’ve sold on Swappa, man! Could’ve made the full $730 instead of getting raped by ebay fees. Either way, good for you, I’m jealous lol. And don’t feel the least bit bad, Verizon makes more than enough money so screw em.

    • Gideon Waxfarb

Insert random, off-topic remark from T-mo fanboy.

  • M3D1T8R

Clearly trying to get some preorders locked in before the HTC One release on the 25th.
And it’s 2014 and they’re still charging $200+2yr for a 16GB device with only about half of that usable. What a joke.

    • Gigan

I doubt Samsung even knows HTC still exists.

      • PoisonApple31

In the North American market, they are aware of HTC. Globally, they couldn’t care less. They are more worried about Huawei, LG, and Lenovo.

    • bobbyp

i was really hoping on contract pricing was going to drop with the 2014 flagships. I wonder what they will cost off contract and what the actual subsidy is.

    • PoisonApple31

Well it’s a rather smart move if you are on Verizon and wanted a S5. Considering buying a phone off contract won’t get you a discount on your monthly bill anyway!

    • Intellectua1

I doubt Samsung is concerned with HTC releasing a device and outselling the S5
