Prepare your iOS devices for migration to Android, dear iPhone users. Motorola added iCloud support to its Migrate app this afternoon to help you bring over contacts and calendar events as you join the Android army.

For those new to Migrate, the app is only available to the Moto X, Moto G, DROID MAXX, ULTRA, and Mini. Once installed, it will walk you through the process of transferring your important info from old phone to new phone. With thew new update, you’ll have to choose initially whether you transferring from an iPhone or an Android device.

They also fixed bugs in the update.

Now Ron can get an X!

Would this work to put my Itunes library onto an Android device? So far everything has not worked all that well.

    • antwonw

No. The best way to put your iTunes library on your Android device is through Google Play Music app for your computer. It will automatically upload your iTunes library on your computer to your Google Play Music account. From there you can “Pin” your music to your device.

      • Dave

I tried but it took about 2 hours to do the first 25 songs. I just dragged and dropped them from WMP onto a sD card and run Google music on the phone, but everything is in WMA format. I’m hoping Google Music Manager could turn all the AAC music into MP3.

        • TC Infantino

I am not 100% sure about this because I only use iTunes if forced to, but I believe iTunes can convert it’s native AAC format songs to mp3. I honestly don’t know if it will work en-mass, but I know it works one song at a time. Then you can just move the new mp3 formated songs to your Android device.

Have you looked at double twist?

I hope they put a message in there somewhere to remind iPhone users to disable imessage and find my phone and all that other stuff before switching! If you don’t turn off imessage you won’t get any texts from iphone users after you switch.

    • EdubE24

It’s just not iphone users that can’t send text. I wasn’t getting them from tons of people!

    • Droid Ronin

I agree. My fiance’s Nexus 5 had the same issue when she switched from the iPhone because of stupid iMessage intercepting all the SMS messages from her iPhone contacts.

    • Tuxdreamerx

Just had the same problem with a few of our users here after switching them from Iphone to android. As far as I can tell the simple fix is to text the word “stop” to 48369 and it will confirm you have unsubscribed from Imessage and you should be fine after that.

    • Jordan

This is only if you have a Mac or another device using the account though right? I had this problem when I switched, but they were just going to my mac. A friend also switched but uses a window PC. When people would text him they’d send as iMessage at first… but after it failed it’d just start sending them as SMS.

Ron won’t use Moto Migrate, but he encourages everyone else to.

I really enjoy the running jokes on this site.

      ha!

Motorola just said “check” to all the other OEM manufactures with this new support to bring over iPhone people who want to switch to android by allowing them to transfer their data

  • jnt

I’m assuming you can’t bring over texts and/or imessages yet? I have a friend that that’s his biggest hangup right now.

    • Jeff Tycz

Is he really that attached to conversations that he cant just write down anything of importance in the messages he wants and not worry about it?

      • Chris

        write….

        thats funny……

        @disqus_dHZI1k9FF0:disqus

just have him take a screenshot of the messages for now.

      • Justin W

I’m not necessarily attached to them, but part of the reason I use GVoice is I have records of everything I said. Sure, I could take screenshots of everything, as the other replier suggests, but that would take far too much time that I don’t have to waste. I can’t speak to what @disqus_dHZI1k9FF0:disqus’s friend needs his messages for, though.

Also, as a side note: I doubt Apple would approve of any infrastructure to connect directly with iMessage to export that data to another OS.

        • motoxswag4life420kush

there is an option to import SMS from other android devices, idk if it does work for apple…

      • jnt

Don’t know, just a lot of history and pics and all that. I’m sure it’s mainly an issue of being used to having it all there, instead of taking the time to archive it somehow.

    • Evan Knofsky

iOS doesn’t allow 3rd party access to Messages, so I doubt it will ever be possible to migrate those without being jailbroken.

    • El_Big_CHRIS

theres a way to do it. The backups on the computer can be accessed; find the path where the messages are stored, select it, then use a sms restore app from the playstore, use it on an android and restore the messages. I did this for my sister’s iphone 4s to s4 and it worked great. She had lots of conversations she didnt want to let go. Google it
