Motorola Details New 2-Day $150-off Moto X Deal, No Rush This Time Thanks to Promo Code

moto x deal

After yesterday’s Cyber Monday fiasco, Motorola has unveiled their new plan to award many of you with a Moto X for $150 off the full retail price. Instead of dealing with “rushed checkouts” and a flood of traffic to their site all at once, Motorola has decided to hand out coupon codes that can be redeemed for the $150-off promo price within a week. In other words, on either Wednesday (December 4, tomorrow) or next Monday (December 9), you’ll have the chance to register for a coupon code that can later be redeemed for a custom made Moto X through MotoMaker for the discounted Cyber Monday price.

This is how it will all go down according to Motorola:

  • Go to motorola.com/holiday2daysale and register for the promotion starting at noon EST on the two sale days. You will know right away if quantities are still available.
  • Once registered, you will be emailed a promo code within a few hours. This code is active for one week.
  • Go to Moto Maker and design your phone within the one week window (take your time and have fun!).
  • At checkout, enter your one-time promo code to receive $150 off the no-contract price in the shopping cart. (Your code only works once and for one phone.)
  • Submit your order to get rocking with your custom Moto X in time for the holidays. Moto Maker will provide an estimated delivery date while you design your product and again at checkout. You will also receive an email when we start assembling your device as well as when it ships.*
  • If you have other questions, visit their FAQ.

This move should certainly alleviate the strain on their site, but should also give you plenty of time to design the perfect Moto X. So again, you head to their site at noon EST (9AM Pacific) on the two promo days (December 4 and 9), register for the deal, and then wait for your special code to arrive. Once you have your code, you will be given a week to use it.

Also, use the code “THANKS’ to save 30% off on accessories.

All make sense?

i’d be kinda pissed if i didnt hear about this in time. they announced it would be at noon and if i went there then and didnt have a code, i’d be pissed.

  • faganm24

I ordered the VZW Dev Edition on Monday, but it didn’t show taxes on my purchase. Is this just a state by state thing, or will it have taxes on it when they ship? Nebraska. Also, no shipping notification yet.

    • Lawrence_Hart

I haven’t received a shipping notice either. I live in California and the confirmation showed tax.

      • Sambit Rayginale Willkonson

damn you california!!! jerry brown is going to town on our taxes!

  • capecodcarl

Cool, I just got the shipping notice that my Moto X Developer Edition (GSM) I ordered Monday afternoon shipped via FedEx 2-day yesterday afternoon. According to the tracking information it’ll be here tomorrow. That was pretty quick actually. I was expecting it to take a week to process.

    • Sambit Rayginale Willkonson

      wow, impressive carl!

    • droidrazredge

Did you get a second email regarding yours would be shipped or did you check the status on the Motorola Website ? Mine has not updated in status so far.

      • capecodcarl

It was a second e-mail I got today that included the Fedex tracking number.

  • Randy

O boy, here we go again. I dont have 12 hours to waste today though.

    • Sambit Rayginale Willkonson

dont worry rand dog you got this!

  • Sambit Rayginale Willkonson

t minus 55 minutes until launch boys

  • A.Miller

I know this isn’t the best place to ask the question, but I’ll do it anyway….

For anyone who has used a MotoX and a Nexus 5…. Is the camera faster to focus and actually take the damn photo on the Motox?

    • Sambit Rayginale Willkonson

yes motorola has a much better software atm on the moto x, A.Miller

      • A.Miller

Thank you! I hope its faster!

    • Hothfox

FWIW, I never had problems with my Nexus 5. Maybe I just don’t expect as much out of my smartphone camera as other people do?

      • capecodcarl

I expect more out of my smartphone camera than a regular camera actually. I expect it should have the ability to start quickly and grab a quick in-focus shot of whatever I’m trying to capture in the heat of the moment. That’s the entire purpose of a smartphone camera. For shots that I have time to prepare and setup and focus properly I will just bring along a regular camera.

      • Jeff

I also really like the picture quality I get, just takes a little long to get the picture after hitting the shutter button.

        • A.Miller

This is my issue. I like the photos that are still, like if i take them of my Christmas tree, but if I try to take any pics of my son, its never clear because its so slow to shutter.

    • Jeff

The video compares the two, and he talks about the camera. I have also seen a lot of reports of the camera on the Moto X opening 1-2 seconds faster than the Nexus 5.

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pMFLeoDx6J4

      • NexusMan

I’d say even faster than 1-2 seconds. The Nexus 5 camera is slow to open AND slow to focus.

    • NexusMan

      HELLZ YES.

  • Jeff

So, correct me if I’m wrong, but the signature ‘engraving’ is actually just printed on, or is it actually engraved like the stuff at the very bottom of the back seems to be?

    • Sambit Rayginale Willkonson

      its printed on jeff!

      • Jeff

        Thanks.

        • Sambit Rayginale Willkonson

anytime jeff!!! remember to visit Denny’s. America’s favorite Diner

  • Sambit Rayginale Willkonson

if i dont get a moto x your dead kellex!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • chris_johns

      tough crowd

  • chris_johns

oh why oh why cant i just make my phone a dev edition as part of moto maker…like its so flippin simple why do i have to get that ugly panda version…well i cant get it at all now so i dunno why im complaining…i wanted a custom moto x anyway theres like zero dev work anyway dev additons are pretty pointless if you look at past phones like the hd’s n such…w.e dev work will be done for standard edition even if we have to use boot work arounds

    • capecodcarl

I’m not even sure of the point of the developer edition. I looked on XDA and the developer community for the Moto X is very tiny and there are only a couple of ROMs even available. Considering the phone is already 3 months old I don’t think that bodes well for future development.

      • Hothfox

That’s kind of my thought. Sure, it would be nice to easily unlock and root my device for the two or three root apps I’m used to, but to be honest, I’d rather be able to customize how my device physically looks that be able to use Root Explorer to change my boot animation, etc.

        • Sambit Rayginale Willkonson

          tell em hothfox

      • Sambit Rayginale Willkonson

dev editions suck cock they just separate a phone community unnecessarily when instead people could work on unlocking the boot loader in the normal ass moto x and slap some roms on that biznatch

        • chris_johns

i mean i agree with you…but speak english most people here speak english and not stupid…harder to understand stupid

      • chris_johns

my sentiments exactly…like i have a droid razr hd…if i got a dev edition id be fuminggg bc this phone was unlocked…i honestly truly love this phone except for the camera and the damn verizon logo on the front…unlocked with carbon and its like my gnex but way better and build like a brick…but the moto x just feels great and i want a custom one…but yeah i wish i could unlock and flash a rom like carbon to customize the few things i like to but i much rather a better phone like the x with its features and hope n pray eventually we get some roms with customization i like changin my nav bar size and changin the holo ui colors but thats about it…oh custom tabs also and i like the bigger grid size for the pattern lock…but these are things i hope down the line we can do on our x’s…and if devs work on it…im sure itll be for both versions…so i dont see the point of the dev edition…only thing i see is resale value but i never really sell phones so wtf do i care

    • Sambit Rayginale Willkonson

smokin all the finest dope, aye aye aye aye

      • chris_johns

lol i dont get it but ima up vote you bc u made me laugh at work

  • Al-Burrit0

Anybody else notice the battery life on the moto x ha gone down since the kit Kat update ? Or is just me? Lol

  • A.Miller

So I just star refreshing motorola.com/holiday2daysale at noon EST?

    • Hothfox

That’s my plan. I haven’t seen any other instructions.

      • A.Miller

Thanks. That’s what I’m planning too.

        • Hothfox

Unfortunately, now that page won’t load at all for me. Great.

EDIT: Is fine now. I’m super apprehensive about this >:(

    • Sambit Rayginale Willkonson

      michigan is lame!

  • M3D1T8R

Well that’s kind of cool because it gives more of a window of time to decide if I want to spend the cash. What is not cool is that it won’t work on the Dev Edition, which is what I was planning on getting. I don’t get why it wouldn’t, when the Cyber Monday sale included the Dev. Editions (for the few lucky ones who managed to get their order in). Seems inconsistent. Anyway I’m going to wait until the 9th to request my coupon on the off chance that wood backs will show up within the week after that. Doubt it, but might as well give myself the best chance.

    • Michael Bell

You should have been on the site Cyber Monday. The DEs went up for sale three different times thru the day. You missed out.

    • Hothfox

This is getting old. The Dev Editions SOLD OUT during the sale. If you were on the site, you could have gotten one. Quantities were limited – that means that you weren’t guaranteed one, but you were able to try for one. They sold through the number of orders they were willing to fulfill at the discounted price. That part of the sale was a success.

  • JMonkeYJ

I wonder how many people are going to get these coupon codes just to sell them for like $50-$75…(I won’t, I’m not a jerk like that ;)

    • Hothfox

I’m not going to do that, but I am going to try to get a code today AND on Monday (with my other Gmail address) and hope that the wood backs come out within the 14 day redesign grace period.

  • Andrew Pearson

The good news here is that this should make it more difficult for people to scalp large quantities of these on ebay.

    • Hothfox

You’re really only limited by the number of email addresses and fake names you feel like creating.

      • Raven

Or, how many you could enter in the 8 minute window before the coupons ran out.

    • Sambit Rayginale Willkonson

the good news is that dennys is back!!!

    • Droidzilla

Is that really lucrative? Moto Xs are going for $315-400 on Craigslist in my city; seems like a waste of time to buy a bunch up at $350.

    • chris125

they already arent selling for that much on ebay anyway. This will just further lower the resale value

    • SystemBuilder

There are 25 Moto-X coupons for sale on EBay already !

  • global1

Just read Motorolas faq, I am very disapointed VZ DE is not in play. Looks like I get to keep my money if they don’t change their minds by Monday.
Can I use my promo code on a Moto X Developer Edition or a Moto G?

No,the promotion is only valid on Moto X phones created with Moto Maker.

    • Aaron Lai

When it was in stock yesterday, the DE’s were sold with a price cut but their stock was annihilated in like 2 hours.

  • Hothfox

GAH. I wish they would just tell us when the wood backs are coming. Like, before January 1st or not.

    • rthvk

Wish wood backs would drop within a week of the Monday promo date so I could pick one up. Looks kind of promising; Tim posted at some point that the ETA is before Christmas.

      • NexusMan

They’ve always said before Christmas, but if that is in fact still the case, I think it’s ridiculous that we haven’t gotten a definitive confirmation by now.

      • Hothfox

Knowing our luck, they will release them after the 16th when Monday’s codes expire. My thought is that I want Monday’s code so I can order one on the 15th to use the code, and then I have 2 weeks after I receive the device to send it back for a redesign if the wood comes out – hoping that they’ll let me pay the difference to “upgrade” to a wood back.

  • Nazzi_Muhammad

What a crock of crap. Hey Moto-Google-rola, I want the 6 hours of my life I wasted yesterday back. And that stinking code ain’t gonna cut it. Jerks!

    • eriksean

If you “wasted” 6 hrs of your life on this.. one can argue your time isn’t worth that much to begin with….just sayin

      • Nazzi_Muhammad

All things being disclosed here, you can come out of the closet now. It’s the 21st century…

        • Hothfox

Why is being homosexual worthy of an insult?

  • rthvk

    Every time I see that “kellen” X, I fall in love… :P

  • Daeshaun Griffiths

imagine if they did make a phone worth $650.

    • Hothfox

That’s always been my beef with the phone. I just can’t fathom how it’s worth $650 full retail. I would gladly pay $400 for it, or even upgrade for $99 (I replace my devices basically every year anyway, usually with a new-used model). But not ALMOST $700!

  • NOVAGuy

I actually bought a Dev Edition for Verizon yesterday, but wanted to get one via MotoMaker instead. Would I be crazy to sell the Dev Edition and instead get a discounted phone via MotoMaker? I don’t have any interest in rooting the phone, etc. So, I’m not sure I really need the Dev Edition. Thoughts?

    • ArrTooDeeToo

I’ll buy it if you don’t want it.

      • ArrTooDeeToo

I missed it the first time around and I really need to unload my Gnex for an upgrade

        • NOVAGuy

I may sell it. It depends on whether I get another one through MotoMaker. I’m still using a Rezound. I really need a new phone!

          • Llama_Nuts

Buyer here, money in hand tonight…

          • NOVAGuy

This will sound like I’m trolling, but how much would you offer? I was really hoping to get a regular edition on MotoMaker, but I’m not sure that’s going to happen. So, I may just keep it. I think I got the Dev Edition only because I had a custom version in my cart at the time and it somehow defaulted to letting me get a Dev Edition as a consolation prize of sorts. But, if I were to sell it, how much would you offer?

          • Guest

Idk – kinda up to you as far as what you want for it. I’m keeping in mind that buying a new phone Moto X on Monday means I’ll have a 2-year warranty (normal 1 yr + 1 yr free extended from purchasing it on AmEx), assurance of dealing directly with Moto, etc. Either way. Just send me a txt and I’m open to seeing what you want. five1three-fourhundred-thirty-three-eighty-five

Make me an offer. Like I said, I may keep it. I need to replace my HTC Rezound with something. I’m still hoping to pick up a regular Moto X on Monday, but if not having a Dev Edition may have to do. I can’t offer any warranty beyond what Moto offers, but it is sealed in it’s box still (since it hasn’t arrived yet).

          • Llama_Nuts

Not in dire need, I was out the door at $427 when I initially rang it up. Would be willing to pay $450 but that’s about my limit for this phone. LMK

          • NOVAGuy

Ok, I’ll keep that in mind. I’m not in dire need to sell it, but it’s a marker.

          • Llama_Nuts

Very good, be in touch. Thanks.

        • NexusMan

          You and me both.

    • NexusMan

Yup. I’d sell it if I were you.

  • Matthew Dickinson

Problem is, one phone per order doesn’t qualify you for the 18 month financing. Don’t really know that this is any better then before, actually worse.

    • mrsastrocat

I was really hoping for the 18 months as well. Was purchasing two, for husband and myself. Had to end up splitting the orders and can only get 12 months on each. I’m planning to contact moto finance support to see if they would do anything to combine the two orders and convert it to 18 mo.

      • Matthew Dickinson

Of course, both Moto and their financing agent were closed by the time I saw this junk. Didn’t know if I called in with both codes, if someone at Moto could push it through.

        • mrsastrocat

I’m going to try IF I can get a phone tomorrow. Got hubby’s yesterday. Hoping for mine tomorrow! Good Luck!

          • droidrazredge

Did you get him a DE or a Motomaker one ? which Motomaker phone do you plane to get ?

          • mrsastrocat

He wanted the Verizon DE and we missed it in the first round because I had my moto x in the cart. The second time I just pic chased his de with all of our accessories. Today I plan on ordering a 32gb violet back, orange accent, white front, with an etching that says “One Little Spark…” It’s a figment phone.

          • ScooberJake

I wish I could give the figment phone a million likes!

The only problem with the Motomaker is that I feel there are a lot of great designs if you want colorful, like your idea. But if you want something understated, but still different, it’s hard to come up with something, IMO.

  • Walker Citterman

Just gonna use moto credit to get the VDE

    • M3D1T8R

You and me both wish we could.

  • A.bit

Anyone’s DE bought on Monday ship yet? Anyone get double charged from Monday’s debacle?

    • Jeff C

Has not shipped yet, still two pending charges on my Visa check card (so I have no access to the funds left in my checking). Customer service has been no help at all.

      • A.bit

Did they give a reason for the two charges? I was hoping once it ships it will go down to one charge. Oddly the two charges I have are slightly different then the receipt I got emailed.

        • Jeff C

They did not give a reason…which really pisses me off. The first charge on my card matches the receipt, the second charge (about 2 hours later in the day) is less than $1 more. I’m wondering if it has to do with “estimated tax” vs actual tax. It better ship tomorrow and the extra charge cancelled, or I am going to raise some hell with Moto.

          • Justin

I’m pretty sure the same thing happened when I bought one on 11/21. The pending charges disappeared when the phone shipped, but the final charge still does not show up after having the phone almost a week.

    • capecodcarl

The e-mail confirmation I got said: “Due to high demand, your Moto X Developer Edition (GSM Networks) may take as long as 7 days to ship.” No double-charge on my credit card.

    • NDM

I got double charged as well but they are both still pending. The amounts are different. Kinda odd. Status of the order says not shipped.

      • Justin

        Exact same here.

  • Waiting game

Wonder if wood will show up tomorrow. Nice thing is that the coupon is good for a week just in case wood does make an appearance in the near future.

  • wills96

Any chance the wood backs will be available? I’m getting real tired of waiting…

  • sirmeili

I’m curious how fast the actual coupons will go. Is there only a few thousand? those could be gone in literally seconds! So basically I’m scared if I don’t hit the site right at 12 noon, I will miss out. I’m not sure I’m a fan of this approach!

    • Detonation

No different if they were for sale at noon instead of the coupon. Except the site would probably crash again and it would be even more frustrating.

      • sirmeili

Yeah, I considered that. I’m just more prepared to have my item in my cart at noon and check out…LOL.

      • sirmeili

It would also be nice if they would just say how many coupon codes they plan to release. Dell used to just release coupon codes that expired on X date or after Y number of uses. I don’t see why they can’t just say “There will be X number of coupon codes available!”

        • NexusMan

Because they don’t want everyone to rush on at noon to sign up for a code.

  • akazerotime

Anyone else having a problem with the motomaker website? I get to a point where I either click save or the “connect your Google account”, takes me to the Google permissions page, then shows me this error account not found page and closes the tab. Anyone know how to fix? I want to make sure I am ready to pull the trigger on a X

  • EmoMorales

Anyone know how easy it is to root and use Bluetooth tethering on a non-DE moto x?

  • rthvk

I feel like there’s been a downvote troll around DL these past few days. Sneaky critters they are.

  • verZion

it says DEVELOPER EDITIONS EXCLUDED from the $150 sale :(

    • Richard Jackson

I know I saw the same thing. I guess me and my Gnex are still hanging together. :)

      • verZion

if it wasn’t for unlimited data on 3 vzw smartphones i wouldn’t feel so trapped. it’s nice driving everywhere streaming movies and music while on the go, but i guess it has it’s price when it comes to phones. My VZW Note 2 is safe for now and Moto does not pass go and collect $399. :(

        • George264

Is unlocking and rooting that important to you? This is a great phone at a great price with a lot more power than the GNex, and you’d finally have to stop worrying about the battery. The camera is better, the sound is better, no more pentile, it’s only 350. That’s a heck of a deal.

        • rthvk

Serious question: why the heck would you want the X if you’re going to root and flash ROMs?

That seriously just makes it a bad-specced devices; all the optimizations are on the stock ROM.

          • hebrewHAMMER

Not sure about flashing ROMs, but I got the VZW DE Moto X so that it would be easier to get/keep root on my device since I have the bootloader unlocked. Root still has its benefits for me. Is there anything that I overlooked?

          • rthvk

I personally don’t think I’ll need root on the X, though that’s what I thought before my N7 purchase too (now rooted).

Correct me if I’m wrong, but root can currently be achieved on the bootloader-locked Verizon X on 4.4. And you get the added benefits of Moto Maker and a 16GB option if you’d rather not pay up for the extra storage.

I get where you’re coming from, but just thinking out loud.

          • hebrewHAMMER

I agree, sometimes the added benefits of root always make you end up rooting despite how good the device is. I think you’re right; there should be a bypass for the locked version right now. The only thing for me is that with most updates they usually patch the root bypass. I guess it depends on how badly you *need* root. I probably would have gone with the motomaker X if it was available earlier, but my GNEX was crawling. Root isn’t the top priority for me in a device, but it is great to have.

          • jefbystereo

The only thing making me want root is for tethering apps, which I use a fair bit for my Nexus 7. Are there reliable no root tethering apps? if so then I’d be completely fine with a locked motoX

          • Big_EZ

Some people only want root, not necessarily to flash roms. I would flash modified stock roms that keep optimizations, but add even more functionality, and I’d theme it.

          • verZion

let me know where to find a new and sealed VZW 32GB LG G2, 32GB Note 3, or VZW Nexus 5 Unicorn and I’ll gladly purchase one @ $399. It’s not all about ROMs… having root allows wifi tethering on verizon’s unlimited data plans.

    • markweebb

And to think I DID get through on Monday and ordered the DE MOTO X and had an email confirmation…and then 2 hours decided against it and cancelled the order. Oh well, I still like my Nexus 5 unlocked and my DE version of S4, thank you very much. :)

    • hyperbeatser

the funny thing is now I am wishing I didn’t get a dev edition on sale and got a moto maker version in the colors i wanted

    • steveindajeep

That seriously just ruined my day, Thanks Moto

    • Sporttster

Yea, all 200 DE’s that Verizon would allow sold out quick…..

      • Raven

Not sure how many it really was, but I managed to order one :-) I think the magic window ended up being somewhere between 1:30pm and 2:30pm CST and I just happened to check again at 1:40pm.

  • Under the bridge downtown

Can I purchase one of these for Verizon, or is the Developer Edition mandatory to use on their network?

    • verZion

it appears we will not be partaking in this awesome sale since DE are excluded from the sale. I hate conspiracy theories, but why do I have a feeling Verizon shoved their massive boot up Motorola’s ass and had them exclude VZW DE from the sale? I hope I’m wrong, but the link says otherwise: http://www.motorola.com/us/motorola-shop-all/motorola-holiday2day-sale.html

      • Thomas Palkovic

The developer editions were part of the promotion on Monday, but they sold out of them on Monday

        • verZion

my issue with the situation is i stopped trying to navigate their clusterf*ck of a site on Monday once it was revealed that the sale would be continued on Wednesday. I am willing to bet $5 I am not the only person who stopped trying to purchase a DE once it was revealed that the sale would continue later in the week. while i understand they sold out of their allotment on Monday, they should in good faith allow DE phones as part of the sale. While I do understand I might appear to want everything my way… I stopped hammering their site with the ASSumption DE models would be part of the sale. Lesson learned. $350 is still a great deal, but I think I’ll keep my current phone for now.

          • Thomas Palkovic

The problem with what you are saying is the DE sold out around 2pm Eastern time and the continuation of the deal wasn’t announced until 9:30 eastern, I also think they said there wouldn’t be any more DE sold through the promotion

          • sirmeili

They ran out of DE phones well before they mentioned anything about continuing it on Wed. They ran out around noon and announced the Wed/Mon thing around 8:45PM.

From what I can tell, there weren’t really any issues with people getting the DEs when they first opened them up. It wasn’t a problem except when they opened up the checkout to moto maker versions. Even then, it was ok again after they closed down the motomaker checkouts again.

      • capecodcarl

The allotted number of developer edition phones for the sale sold out on Monday. No conspiracy theory necessary.

        • Walker Citterman

I still hate how they went back on sale at 2 after it wouldn’t let me checkout in the morning

    • Thomas Palkovic

Yes you can buy a non developer edition moto x for Verizon with this promotion

  • delrayser

I see the benefits of this approach, but it’s only going to create an even bigger dash for the promo codes. I bet there will be a significant chunk of people who register for the code but then end up deciding not to buy the phone and use it. So, wasted $150-offs that would have been used if they were just selling the phones upfront as originally planned.

    • Waiting game

Disagree. They are staggering the coupons so they can release gradually throughout the day. Also I bet they are factoring in a certain amount of the coupons to go unused. On Monday the will adjust the quantities accordingly as well.

However, I’m not sure how they will be dealing with multiple entries.

      • evltwn

You have a week to use the coupon, so on Monday there won’t be any “extra” coupon codes for them to give out.

      • Hothfox

Where did you hear that they’re staggering the release of the coupons throughout the day? Is that just supposition on your part?

        • Waiting game

According to the instructions, you could enter your info at 12pm EST, but not get a response until later in the day via email. It’s an assumption, but they would control the flow of coupons both to measure demand, and to stagger purchases.

  • rthvk

Multiple email address scamming anyone? Wonder if they’ll accidentally allow three codes to be used on one Moto X so it will be free.

If you’re listening Moto, make sure it doesn’t happen.

    • Justtyn Hutcheson

Preventing multiple codes is easy. I think this solution is brilliant. It is very very similar to the way Best Buy has been running their Black Friday in-store deals the past few years. A store employee walks down the line with a folder with tickets for an item. If you get a ticket, you get the item. If you don’t get a ticket, then you can go home without waiting any longer. Either way, you know well in advance of your attempted purchase whether you got the promo price.

      • MistaButters

I used to work at Best Buy. The problem with that is every single person says they want the item, so the first 30 people in line have 10 slips each and everybody else is slipless. Then, since Best Buy gave out slips, they have to wait a few hours before they give away the item that wasn’t claimed. Therefore it screws everybody else in line who wasn’t in the first 30.

        • Justtyn Hutcheson

The year I went it was 1 of each item per adult. No exceptions. This year, I heard that instead of slips, they were queing up your purchase on the spot. When the store “opened”, they already had each order pulled individually; you just paid, grabbed your items and left (only the “doorbuster” items were for sale, with people directed straight to the registers as the store proper didn’t open until a few hours later). That is more or less what I was referring to. And while I understand your point that this process could be exploited by scalpers, I somewhat doubt they will have a significant impact on those who are puchasing for personal use or as gifts. Though, admittedly, I tend to err on the side of optimism even knowing how terrible some people in this world are.

          • MistaButters

I wasn’t saying it was helping scalpers, it was just screwing most of the people in line. Those first 30 people would say they want every item, when really they only want one. So 90% of those laptops are sitting behind the counter waiting to be claimed. Our store would give you two hours to claim, and when that two hours was up, like I said MAX 15% or so had been picked up. So all the rest of the people who got to the store early and waited in line, either were out of luck or had to wait another two hours.

I’m not sure if that is still how it is done.

  • Severo Rivera

    The final countdown.

  • cheezer88

How easy is it to root the Moto X DE for Verizon?

  • laheelahee

    Samsung, are you watching?

  • mrsastrocat

Wishing I could use my moto credit for this and the google glass invite I just got.

  • techymexican

I wonder if it’ll work if you apply it on the Moto G. It would be $30- 50 for an awesome phone :] either way, i’m still going to for a Moto X :D

    • Sambit Rayginale Willkonson

its not going to work for the moto g you idiot

  • huskerhog

    So what is full retail?

    • Justtyn Hutcheson

$499 for the 16GB versions, $549 for the 32GB versions.
Sale prices will be $349 and $399, respectively.

      • TylerChappell

So in other words, for the same price as a Nexus 5…people can get a phone that’s not as good as a Nexus 5?

        • https://plus.google.com/117965295509267254340/posts Dean Wisener

Read the reviews of the device. Phones are about more than “MUH COREZ!”

          • TylerChappell

Gosh, didn’t realize the Moto X circle jerkers were also such major Nexus haters. They’re both good phones, but one is technologically superior to the other.

          • https://plus.google.com/117965295509267254340/posts Dean Wisener

            “Nexus haters.” Heh.
Yeah, the Nexus 5 has “moar corez,” but the the software enhancements on the X are objectively better and the X8 processor actually puts cores in a low power state to use, instead of packing a bunch of unnecessary full-power cores.
“Moar corez” isn’t the answer to how one makes a good phone. And it doesn’t make a phone better. The S4 has a “more advanced” processor than the Moto X, but which one do reviewers almost universally say is the better experience?

        • MistaButters

Better battery life than the Nexus 5. Better camera software than the Nexus 5. Feels better in hand than the Nexus 5. Has better voice commands than the Nexus 5. Has better notifications that the Nexus 5.

          And I own a Nexus 5.

          • M3D1T8R

And better screen. (Not resolution obviously but the OLED on the X is far better than the somewhat washed out LCD of the N5).

          • MistaButters

It’s a preference thing which is why I left it out.

          • Jeff

I’m picking up a Moto X and selling my Nexus 5 to a friend. The Nexus 5 is great, but it’s a bit too large for my taste and I constantly have to readjust my hand or use two hands with it. The Moto X is what I wanted initially, but I couldn’t justify paying a couple hundred bucks more for it at the time, this solves that issue.

          • Sean Walton

            I totally agree with you.

        • NexusMan

          But it is.

  • Tony Byatt

I fear this may get ugly…

  • strikeir13

So has anyone asked whether they can use three above coupon code in conjunction with a coupon code for a Dev edition purchased in the last week?

    • Justtyn Hutcheson

The blog mentions Moto Maker specifically, and they’ve said already that they are sold out of the Dev Editions at the promo price, so I’m going to go with “no”, but they’ve been awesome up until now, so who knows really.

      • strikeir13

What I meant was, I bought a dev edition less than two weeks ago and am awaiting the coupon code for $150 in Moto merchandise. I want to use that in addition to the $150 coupon I will hopefully get tomorrow to buy a custom Moto X (T-Mo). Too good to be true?

        • Wilsonian

So are they giving out coupon codes to those who bought a Dev Edition X? I bought one right before I heard about the Cyber Monday deal. I got one yesterday, as well, because I was afraid they would make me return mine to get the difference back.

          • strikeir13

I believe if you bought a Dev X after Nov 18th, you could contact them and get a $150 coupon code sent to you (I sent in the survey but am still waiting for the code). Not sure if you had to do it yesterday, and given they’re sold out of Dev Editions, you might be SOL. Ask them in chat

          • Wilsonian

I’ll do that. I got a couple of the Dev Editions yesterday, so I can still return mine and get my money back, but I haven’t started using it just because I know I’ll have to switch once I get these new ones in. Thanks for the head’s up. It’s at least worth a shot.

        • Justtyn Hutcheson

Depends. Most of the time they have caveats (cannot be combined with any other offers, etc.). I would assume the promo website would have a link to the offer’s legalese (terms & conditions), and those would spell it out.

  • Cory Pitkavish

bring it on… my body is ready…

  • Jerry Fletcher

this was all a conspiracy to boost the developer community of the moto x

  • George264

so instead of motomaker being down this time it will be their coupon site that’s down. great.

    • George Davis

From what I’ve read it’s the checkout part that’s buckling under the load, so in theory the coupon site which is much simpler should be able to handle it. Then the checkout load will be spread out over a week instead of everyone hitting it at the same time.

      • http://theblemish.com The Blemish

It was sort of the checkout part that was taking everything down. What needed to happen during the checkout is what took it down.

      • George264

        Absolutely perfect machine

        • Valerie Rub

          It is cnc machine.

      • Tony Byatt

        You win…

  • Daniel J. Peters

    Fingers crossed…

  • Rich

Based on that I’m guessing they are expecting Motomaker to be f***ed again, wonder if they will pre-emptively shut it down at the sale times

  • http://twitter.com/geoff5093 Geoff Johnson

I bet the registration site will get overloaded minutes before noon -_-

  • Samvelavich

by “WE” you mean that the DL team is gonna assemble my device? /s

  • Neil Fujiwara

    Awesome!

  • NickA

Sounds simple enough. I’ll be ready at Noon.
