Verizon LG G2 Receives Working Kit Kat ROM Built From AOSP

LG G2 Verizon ATT

Verizon customers that are into the rooting and custom ROM game, that happen to rock an LG G2, should know that your vanilla AOSP dreams have been answered in the form of Gummy ROM. While this ROM isn’t completely stock, as a few tweaks have been made and additional features have been installed, this is essentially a clean build of Android 4.4 running on the device.

As for what is baked into the ROM, users will see full status bar mods, a theme manager like the one found in CyanogenMod builds, a lockscreen mod that adds more options for when unlocking your device, CPU performance controls, custom carrier label options, as well as a hardware key modification for the device’s back buttons. Below is the full list of added features as posted on the forum.

ROM Features:

  • New base built from AOSP
  • Status Bar Mods
  • Theme Manager
  • Hardware Key Mod
  • Lock Screen Mod
  • Performance Control
  • Application Permission Controls
  • Carrier Label Options
  • Background Style
  • Lock clock widget

Follow the via links to download the ROM zip file and GAPPs zip file. And please, make sure to create a backup before flashing any files.

Cheers Nate!

Does Knockon work with this rom?

  • Josh Meade

First of all you would have to unlock the bootloader (thanks to verizon) and then you would have to get the right GAPPS.

  • Garemlin

Ok I wll admit I am glad what I reported last night is wrong. LG is staying focused on smartphones after all. http://www.androidheadlines.com/2013/11/lg-keep-focus-smartphones-committed-become-major-player-mobile-business.html

But don’t shoot the messenger. It seemed creditable.

  • CoCoCalypso

Can anyone link the best root method they’ve found for this phone?

  • panicswhenubered

FYI. From the dev on Droid Hive thread: Issues: “Issues Video Camera is borked”

  • Kevin

i just want LG to speak up and at least say it’s in the works… the silence is making me nervous.

  • RavnosCC

This sounds great! I can’t wait to flash this afternoon :)

  • KnappyRoot

Is it possible to buy the G2 off of Amazon by adding a line to existing plan, then switch newly added plan to a dumb phone and use G2 on existing line? Or will I get hit with the Amazon $400 charge stated in their “fine print?”
Or should I just suck it up and buy through Verison for $150 (does VZWDEAL still work?) and add new line to plan then switch the phones around?

    • RavnosCC

either way you get it, get it. might want to wait til black friday, maybe get it for $50… and remember VZW likes to tack on that $30 “upgrade” fee…. so factor that in as well…

    • Garemlin

Best Buy will have it for $49.99 on contract on Black Friday. Create a new line, switch the G2 to another line and put the dumb phone on the new line.

  • Milan Parekh

How should I reorder the g2. In order to keep unlimited data

    • Garemlin

Either buy it outright or add a line and then switch the G2 to your unlimited line and add a dumb phone to the new line. Just posted above that Best Buy will have the G2 for $49.99 on contract on Black Friday.

      • Milan Parekh

I trasfered an other line upgrade to me and i lost it. So i dont think if i add a line and buy the phone on a new line and then later put it on my line. If i

  • Milan Parekh

Should i return my verizon g2 so i get my unlimited back and pay retail instead?

    • Such

      YES.

lol very best of luck with that :/

I am trying to decide between the Note 3 and the G2. I’ve been going in the stores and playing with both and I’m thinking the LG’s software is not as horrible as the tech sites say it is. I plan on putting Nova on it and disabling the bloat. I am not experienced with rooting and ROM’s. If I learn rooting and customization would it be better to go with the Note 3 or the G2? I am with T-Mobile and I don’t know if the bootloader is locked. I read that as soon as you pay your phone off Tmo will unlock it.

    • Peter Blanco

The Note 3 will probably have more ROMS given that Samsung is much bigger in the phone world and as such has more rom devs, I have the G2 though and there are enough to satisfy my thirst!

      • George Colyer

        Thanks.

      • Chippah

The Note 3 dev scene is a GHOST TOWN compared to the G2.
Im dumping my Note 3 asap.
for instance, check out XDA – VZW Note 3 development has
        a whole 2 threads. Laughable.

The G2 is a beast of a device that with its pricing came out of nowhere to be a hugely popular.

I have found with the Note 3 all the bloatware features I never use as well,. Go G2!

    • droidify

The G2 is awesome. The reception is much better than my Note 2 was. The bootloader is loki’d and it has a lot of dev support. The Note 3 is a great device but I decided on the G2 and haven’t looked back.

    • Clift

Returned the Note 3 for a G2. Much happier.

  • Milan Parekh

ANYONE. WHATS YOUR BATTERY LIFE? I CAN GET A FULL 3.5 HOURS. I THOUGHT I CAN GET LIKE 4-5. HOWS LONG IS YOUR ON SCREEN TIME?

    • Garemlin

I typically get 4-4.5 hours of screen on time off of a full charge. GPS, BT, WiFi on and brightness pegged.

      • BobbyG

currently at 3hr 15 min screen time, 28hr 26min total time. GPS on the whole time, Wifi on for 14 hrs, no BT, screen at 50% brightness. 21% battery still left.

Didnt use it much this charge, I easily get over 5 hours of screen time

    • Rww

This battery is a revelation after the Gnex. I always have 100% brightness, GPS and BT on. My screen on time is usually between 1.5 and 2 hrs, but has gone as high as 5 hours. I have NEVER seen less than 20 hours on a charge (with 5hrs screen on time and all that other stuff maxed out).

    • joejoe5709

I’m seeing at minimum 4-5 hours and fairly often 6+ hours of on-screen time. It’s incredible. That’s with brightness at 50% nearly all the time. GPS and Wifi all day long. Gaming and Youtube a couple hours each day. About an hour talk time each day. Web Browsing, Pandora, Email and texting the rest. I too have never seen less than 16 hours even on brutal days. Most nights I go to bed/plug it in at 20%.

  • Chris Wilkey

After I decided to stay with Verizon I had to choose this or the One. They can both be found used for about $400 so I ended up going with the One for now. It’s kind of a pain in the sense that AOSP Roms, especially CM11 based builds are wiping out the CDMA info, still early days though and definite props to the rum runner team and santod040 for making unlocking fairly painless and building a great sense-based ROM in NuSenseONE-Max.

  • cmonnats23

Does anyone know if rooting/roming keep the knock on feature? That’s an essential for me as I imagine it is for most.

    • antinorm

It keeps knock on, but you’ll lose knock off.

      • http://www.deathbycone.com Jared Kotoff

Even knocking on the status bar for knock off?

        • duke69111

yeah you have to use the status bar for knock off if you use a custom launcher like nova launcher or you can get a turnoff app from the App Store and then get the paid version of nova launcher and set it up as a gesture, it works really well as well

          • Garemlin

Yup this is what I did. I did a write up on it about a month ago on several forums.

            -Install the Screen Off app
-Go into your launcher settings where you can change desktop behavior. I am going to use Apex as an example. It is behavior settings.
            -Choose desktop double tap
            -Choose launch app
            -Select the Screen Off app
            -Click OK

Use it on my N7 too since I was spoiled by tap off on my G2.

      • Rand Paul 2016

I disagree with this, I’m stock rooted with stock launcher and knock on and OFF works on the home screen and notification bar. I believe if you use Nova launcher it only works in the notification bar.

    • RavnosCC

rooting keeps both, and installing just MODs and not roms has been enough for me(at least for now)

      • cmonnats23

I haven’t rooted or romed this phone yet. Coming from a GNex, that’s killing me. Hah especially knowing there’s a working 4.4 ROM out there!

  • Lyle

Total underdog device = Total beast with an amazing dev scene right now.
Dumping my NOTE 3 ASAP to grab a G2.

Best Android handset you can buy right now.

Verizon note 3 dev is a doa joke.

  • Timothy McGovern

I just got this phone four days ago and for some reason part of the screens touch screen won’t work. It’s only about a half inch row so everything on the bottom row of the homescreen doesn’t sense my touch.

  • Ryanerikk

How does one root the VZW LG G2. New to this.

    • jmich
      • Ryanerikk

I don’t understand how to root a phone. I’ll leave it alone hopefully this phone well eventually get the 4.4 update. Thanks

        • Tobias Kundig

Lmao! Look up LG update history and you’ll want to root. You download a file and follow directions. There’s even a video! Its super easy.

        • duke69111

          it really is super easy!

  • James Hill

It’s the N5 G2 variant. Better battery, better camera and better screen.

  • joejoe5709

I’m really fairly happy with Xposed Framework at the moment, but Kit Kat sounds pretty tasty. I’ll check it out. Does anyone know if you lose knock on, quick remote, etc.?

    • Sharkh20

Haven’t tried gummy yet, but with 4.3 versions of Cyanogen on the G2, you don’t lose knock on but you lose the knock off unless you make a Nova shortcut to a separate app.

    • Brian Wolfman

Knock on is actually built in to the screen hardware and it cant be “lost” but knock off is a launcher function and thus without the LG launcher, you cant have it. Some have had work arounds with notification bar toggles and tap and hold to off.

      • http://www.deathbycone.com Jared Kotoff

I don’t think knock off is a launcher thing. I can turn it off by knocking the status bar with Nova.
But do you still lose quick remote? with the IR API in 4.4 is there any alternative/solution if you do lose it?

        • Brian Wolfman

I think I heard someone saying that but didnt know it notification tapping worked on 4.4 AOSP. As for Quick remote, its an LG app, so not until theres an LG 4.4 release, but I think it works if you side load it. Some have done that and the LG camera (video doesnt work) on 4.4 I think. Id have to assume there are some remote apps out there, I just havent looked, I like LGs though.

        • dreadnatty08

You can sideload Quick remote. I’m using it on this ROM. Works just fine.

  • Adam Elghor

….I’m starting to regret picking the note 3 over the g2. The phone would be perfect if it wasn’t for the locked bootloader…

    • sean.yesmunt

You can flash Safestrap Recovery on your Note 3. I’m not entirely sure how it works, but there are ROMS that you are able to flash on your Note 3. The only ROMs out now are touchwiz based, but AOSP is soon to come!

      • Adam Elghor

I know I flashed the Beans rom but I’m holding my breath on a true AOSP rom without being able to change the kernel…

        • flosserelli

Unless you have a non Developer Edition, the chances of custom kernels are very slim.

          • notflosserelli

Unless you have a Developer Edition, the chances of custom kernels are very slim.

  • Garemlin

@AlexKCMO It is a beast of a phone. Lightning fast, gorgeous screen and lots of customizing features stock. Development is starting to really pick up too. My only worry is LG’s announcement yesterday that they are going to dump the smartphone business for now in favor of focusing more effort on TV’s.

    • AndroidUser00110001

Where was this announced…can you provide a link?

      • Garemlin
        • SplashMTN

That’s a bummer. I’m still getting a G2 next week because I really like it, but limited future support is weak sauce.

        • Jared Denman

Its just a rumor. Im not gonna believe it until LG makes the statement.

          • Garemlin

They will never come out and openly admit it. That would be financial suicide. Who would buy a new phone knowing there will be no future support for it???

          • joejoe5709

Agreed. It doesn’t make much sense. These types of rumors are often outdated, misinformed, or purely just to stir the pot. I wouldn’t freak out until we see LG slowing down. With the GFlex and the G2, I think they’re doing just fine.

          • Bob

I would agree, with the GFlex just announced, looks like they are still going full force. Just because they are shuffling people around to work on different things within the company doesn’t mean they are changing focus. With the launch of the Nexus 5 in there pocket, seems to me they are doing just fine. One could say the Nexus line gives a huge bump to the company making it. HTC was the top in the beginning, then Samsung, now LG is getting kudos.

My G2 is the best phone I have had to date. Still running stock and I see no reason to deviate at this point.

        • AndroidUser00110001

Strange…they have been showing good profits lately and it was due to their cell phone division.

    • Guest

Ok I wll admit I am glad what I reported is wrong. LG is staying focused on smartphones afterall. http://www.androidheadlines.com/2013/11/lg-keep-focus-smartphones-committed-become-major-player-mobile-business.html

  • possomcrast1

Just to let you know there is a Kit Kat Rom for the Verizon HTC One, also. It was released fairly quickly and is relatively bug free. Here’s the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2531235

  • Rodeojones000

It’s very much an alpha build. MMS not working properly being the biggest issue. Still nice to see a 4.4 ROM. AOKP will be just around the corner as well.

    • dreadnatty08

      Video camera doesn’t work either.

  • AlexKCMO

For anyone who bought this phone – I’ve been seriously considering it. Nexus 5, blah blah blah; I’m sticking with Verizon until they force me off Unlimited Data. I’m currently using a G-Nex and refuse to go to anything without an AOSP-ish option (CM is what I really want, but I’ll settle for something else AOSP based).

How good is this phone and is it worth me sinking the money into?

    • Rodeojones000

Absolutely amazing phone. I love it. Rooting is easy and there’s quite a few AOSP options already available. And you might actually find the LG stock ROM to be quite useful. I’ve been the biggest AOSP/vanilla Android fan for years and planned to go that route right away. But with a few mods I’ve made the stock ROM perfect for me.

      • possomcrast1

I considered this phone but can’t leave the build quality of the One.

        • duoexo

This phone is great with the Incipio Lite feather case.

          • joejoe5709

My Incipio Feather is in the mail. :-) Can’t wait! The back of the phone is far too slippery without a case.

          • dreadnatty08

Just got a Poetic Palette case and it’s great!
Regards to the ROM, it’s super smooth and I love it. Set up a nav key to turn the screen off and sideloaded the LG camera since AOSP one sucks. Could care less about having a Nexus at this point.

          • Bigwavedave25

Nice, I’m giving it a shot today. Great to hear you can sideload the camera, what about quick remote?

          • kongo

The Incipio Lite Feather case is sweet. Just don’t get the feather SHINE case – it’s back brushed aluminum back (while it looks amazing) interfere’s with cell signal, and I had trouble getting data in some places. I tested repeatedly with both the feather Lite and the feather SHINE and with no cover. Also, the SHINE case was a little slick for me… didn’t have enough grip, IMO.

But my G2 is so great. I am so happy since I switched from my aged GNex. Battery life is a godsend.

          • bachinphx

I actually bought and had delivered the Incipio Feather first. When it arrived, then I went and bought the phone. Will not go naked!

      • jer85008

I’m stock as well, what mods have you made? Only wish list item would be hiding the on-screen nav buttons without having to root.

        • Rodeojones000

The mods I’m using require root. G2 Xposed is an app that allows you to change a whole bunch of stuff, like the statusbar and navbar look.

          • joejoe5709

Have you tried Gravity Box? Not all things apply, but I found several useful tweaks with it.

          • Rodeojones000

Actually, I haven’t heard of it. Is it found on XDA? Maybe I’ll have to give it a look.

          • joejoe5709

Yeah. It kind of conflicts/overrides with some of the settings already found in G2 Xposed so it’ll take a bit of work to get it all just right. But once you do, it’s really got everything I ever wanted from the ROM’s I used to have on my GNex. And that’s the beauty of Xposed. If you don’t like it, simply turn the module off and you’re back to normal. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2316070

          • Rodeojones000

Thanks for the info. I’m going to read up on it for a bit.

          • Bigwavedave25

Gravity Box was my favorite module that ran on the GNex. I’ll have to check it out on my G2 now, thanks!

        • joejoe5709

Rodeojones and I have had this conversation before. Xposed is definitely the way to go right now.

      • joejoe5709

Ditto. I found myself actually loving LG’s software. With a few easy tweaks, there’s very little that annoys me. Kit Kat does sound pretty cool. As it is, I’m tired of the ROM game and I think I can wait for the real 4.4 from LG.

        • Just_Some_Nobody

wow. why did you get a downvote? people are nuts.

Anyway, i only worry that LG will abandon the phone. I’m not so much worried about Kit Kat, but I’d like to see some bug fixes.

          • joejoe5709

I really doubt it. I think LG is trying to earn some street cred. They’re going out of their way to steal people from Samsung. In fact, I’d expect them to be on a similar timeframe as Samsung. HTC announced end of January so I bet Samsung and LG should be right around there.

      • Ben Wilkie

your post answered a lot of what I’ve been wondering about this phone..I’ve been eyeballing it for awhile and since there’s root & custom/also available I’m making the switch!! so thank you:-)

        • Rodeojones000

Glad I could help. Just an FYI… an official AOKP developer just got the phone and is putting out ROMs for multiple variants of the G2, including Verizon. Right now he’s got stable and fully functioning 4.3 and is working on 4.4, which he anticipates to be ready sooner rather than later. Here’s the thread if you’re interested. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2546994

Its a great phone. Battery kills the GNEX. Than again anything current tops it. The phone is great, the UI growz on you. I didnt find the need for a launcher. While not the greatest it gets the job done. The screen is amazing. I love the phone and im still stock

    • Someone

I love it! Just upgraded from a VZW Gnex and its night and day! I used to come up with excuses to NOT use my phone, and now I am trying to use it for everything! For how much I spend on wireless service, I don’t know why I have such a hard time spending a few hundred dollars every so often to make the experience so much better.

      • joejoe5709

Lol. Agreed. I don’t think I’ve touched my tablet in at least 3 days.

      • James Friedman

Same here, couldn’t be any happier

    • BriVG

Phone itself is great, some of LG’s apps are pretty decent believe it or not. Accessories are slowly comming around. Afraid that dev support won’t be that hot iI’m guessing, but who knows. You may want to look at the Moto options that verizon has to offer especially with the good warranty news that DL reported today.

            more like $700 at bestbuy

          • http://www.twitter.com/nblufire12 Nathan Patel

oh just check verizon iconic portal!

          • Garemlin

I bought mine at Best Buy. Price matched VZW at $599. Went back when it dropped to $549 at VZW and got a price adjustment. Went back again during the 5 day sale for another price adjustment to $449. Awesome price for this phone considering the Note 3 is $300 on contract.

        • Rand Paul 2016

I paid 420 on swappa.. I think it was one from the Amazon “sale”

        • cheezer88

Verizon has it for 450 and best buy price matches, that’s where I got mine.

        • Timmy

          Check C-List. Got a 32MB for $425.

    • C-Law

Moto x is a seriously awesome phone too if you prefer the size of the gnex. It’s actually slightly smaller but with same size screen. It’s already got kit Kat and I love active notifications

      • AlexKCMO

Is there development on it? I REALLY like it, but I need an AOSP variant.

        • Ej McCarty

I mean it’s almost completely stock with some added useful features. If you absolutely need aosp you might wanna look into dev edition. Lots more development going on there. Battery is pretty good. Not phenomenal I Took it off of the charger a little longer than 12 hours ago and I’m at 13% with three hours screen time

          • AlexKCMO

I like the X, and if dev is going for it, I’d consider it. Honestly – I’ve become so accustomed to the CM enhancements, I find my phone almost unusable without them.

          • duke69111

you might want to do a factory reset. I’m getting 5.5 hours of screen on time with 48 hours of battery life. Yours should be doing much better unless you’re doing something heavy intensive

          • BroChaos

48 hours of battery life and 5.5 hours screen on time with a motox? screenshot? that seems to go against everything i’ve heard.

          • Ej McCarty

Yes I highly doubt he’s getting those kind of results

        • Tobias Kundig

Hardly any. Even with the Dev edition there’s one ROM? G2 Development is where its at. But only for Verizon. The other variants have ROMs but not as many as the VZW one.

    • fillyo75

You can pick up a cheap S3 that runs CM with no issues. Battery life is great and a cheaper option than G2

      • dreadnatty08

I went from a Gnex to an S3 and it’s hardly an upgrade. Battery and camera are a little better, but the G2 destroys it in both regards. Unless your Gnex is broken, I would not recommend this route.

        • flosserelli

I disagree. I had the GNex and S3, and the S3 was a huge improvement in many regards: battery life, reception, overall speed. Of course, everyone’s experience and opinion is different. But I would take an S3 over a GNex any day.

        • fillyo75

Hmmm…I had a Gnex from the day it came out, and got the S3 on day one, I would argue its a huge upgrade, especially battery and camera, and screen. To each their own, but I lived with both extensively, S3 is hands down better in almost every way.

I’ve had this phone for a week now (long story, but I got it indirectly from the Amazon goof). I upgraded from the Droid RAZR and I’ve been blown away by the quality and performance of the G2.

    • joejoe5709

I thought I’d miss AOSP but LG’s software isn’t too terrible once you throw in a launcher, get rid of all the bloat, and Xposed Framework has been great for the rest of the tweaks. I’m really really happy with the way it’s turned out. The phone itself is massively impressive. I cannot believe what I put up with on the Gnex vs this phone. I’ve yet to kill the battery by the time I plug it in at night. It’s scary to see 50% and then leave the house without a charger, but 50% will last you 8 hours easily. The camera isn’t always perfect, but it’s consistently good. My wife has an iPhone and she’s impressed. The processor never slows down. Updating apps is no problem and animations never glitch. And good God the screen is gorgeous. Knock-on is awesome. I’ve learned to love quick remote and such. I’m actually not disappointed in the least that I got the G2 vs the Nexus 5 or the Moto X.

    • WungFu

I went from a G-Nex and this phone is just awesome. I love the camera takes very good pictures for a phone. I am trying to get my g/f to buy one and move on from Apple.

    • EdubE24

I love mine. Only changes I made was throwing Nova on top and couldn’t be happier. The Knock On feature is just awesome. I get upset when I accidentally try and use it on my other devices and realize it doesn’t work. Every device should now include this feature!

      • http://www.deathbycone.com Jared Kotoff

I totally picked up my friends N4 and tried to knock on. I facepalmed myself.

        • thescreensavers

He can get this function with an app called “Touch Control” I used it on my Galaxy Nexus

        • MacNificent

Lol I pick up my nexus 7 and or any of my old phones or friend’s phones and try to knock on at least twice before I realize what I’m actually doing. smh

    • dragonflyr

This phone is awesome. Came from a gnex. Throw another launcher on it..disable some of the bloat and you have a beast of a phone. I actually like the buttons on the back now. So much to like about this phone. But above all the best thing is the battery…you just never have to worry about battery life anymore. Amazing. Go for it.

    • Ryan

I love it. FYI when you upgrade this phone Verizon WILL force you off your data plan. You can only keep if you buy a phone and bring it onto your plan or transfer a phone over to it. But you can’t buy brand new and keep your plan. Won’t work.

My review of it is here – http://www.rohicks.com/reviews/verizon-lg-g2-review/

      • AlexKCMO

I will purchase full price out of contract.

        • Ryan

Fair enough; you’ll enjoy it especially the battery life. IMO the g2 or any phone for that matter is not worth more than 400-450 on or off contract.

          • thatguy

Swappa is your friend. I picked mine up new in box for $410

          • ryanhas0friends

            Correction… nobody is his friend.

          • Ryan

            Not bad. Good find.

      • duke69111

Its that way for all phones with unlimited data though, not just the G2.

        • Ryan

Ya thanks captain obvious. That’s exactly what I said.

          • Timothy McGovern

This makes me not want to read your review

          • Ryan

OH NO… Then don’t. No one is holding your hand gurlfran. None of my replies were directed towards you anyways mr. sensitive.

          • Timothy McGovern

            LoL

          • Ej McCarty

Wow this guy seems like a real douche. His picture makes me come to the conclusion that he likes a bid d1ck up his arse

          • Ej McCarty

Everyone on this site knows that dipshit quite trolling for views on your stupid review

          • Ryan

Says the guy with a cartoon as his picture representing himself.

No I’m not trolling for views dumb f*ck. The guy wanted an opinion on the phone. BTW learn how to spell.

          • GJV

The way you wrote it makes it sounds like it’s only the G2 you would lose unlimited data for. You’ll lose it for any upgrade – Note 3, GS4, etc. Go pimp your reviews elsewhere.

          • Ryan

No that’s the way you read it.

          • duke69111

So I guess two or more of us read it the wrong way… OK! Your comment even says “this phone”, which makes it sound like you were referring to the g2 only. Jeez

          • duke69111

            My thoughts exactly!!!

    • Milan Parekh

i got the g2 on Tuesday. for Verizon. i also had unlimited data and now kicked out and now on 2gb. its worth it for $99 at bestbuy. i have 14 days to return or exchange so i might exchange for a white one of it comes out. peope were saying the 14th but no. i like lg interface than Samsung touch wiz.

      • Tobias Kundig

Coulda sold that Unlimited line for $300 on eBay! Or at least gotten the 6GB plan?

      • GillRigged

I did a Transfer An Upgrade from an unlimited data line to one that has a 2GB package via online and was able to keep unlimited. Had to activate on the 2GB line first and then move to the line that I wanted it on all in the same call. Every rep will now tell you that you’ll lose unlimited no matter what but that is a lie. A tech support rep read me the entire unlimited data “sunset” terms that were updated in June. I have a feeling that they are doing this intentionally to get around laws. Anyways, I’m glad I took a chance and got the G2. Still on stock but rooted, Loki’d and have TWRP installed with bloat froze. Love this beast.

      • Rodeojones000

Call Verizon and ask them about their Verizon Max promo (not to be confused with the RAZR Maxx). They’re offering former unlimited customers 6GB of data for the 2GB price. And this is a lifetime deal. About a week after getting my G2 I called them and after a day of verifying I’m eligible both my wife and I now have 6GB of data for $30 per month (and this is 6GB each, not shared us).

        • Milan Parekh

Does it matter where i bought it? I got it from bestbuy

          • Rodeojones000

Nope. Got my G2 from Best Buy as well and my wife’s Moto X was from Amazon. Customer service rep I spoke with said they were doing this as a way to ease the pain of losing unlimited data and also to keep customers from leaving for another carrier. Just them. Worst thing that happens is you find out you’re not eligible.

          • Milan Parekh

Did they change it over the phone and when did u calk them after you go your phone. I got mine on tuesday

          • Rodeojones000

Got mine 3 weeks ago. I called 4 days after getting the phone because I read about the promo on a different forum. They won’t make the change right over the phone because the customer service reps aren’t capable of doing that. What they’ll do is verify you’re eligible for the promo (must be a former unlimited data customer in good standing and must have recently upgraded to a new device). You’ll be told someone else will review the request and make a final decision in 3-5 days, but my approval was finalized the next day. You’ll most likely be notified of the change via text message. The rep I spoke to said no one who was found to be eligible during that first call has been denied, so you should give it a try. Having purchased my G2 for $49 and then getting 6GB of data reaffirmed my decision to stay with Verizon.

          • Milan Parekh

Man the guy say ” sure not a problem” and it was done in under 2 minutes. 6gb is fine its hard to go over it.

          • Rodeojones000

Nice. I’m fine with 6 GB, as even on my heaviest months I never used more than 5 GB. It’s not unlimited, but for me it’s just good.

          • Milan Parekh

THANK YOUVSO MUCH I JUST CALLED AND HE GAVE IT TO ME IN A HEARTBEAT. NO PROBLEM.. THANK YOU!!!!

          • Rodeojones000

Glad it worked out. And it seems to have been even smoother for you, as I had to wait a day before it was approved.

          • Milan Parekh

            6GB FTW!

          • Rodeojones000

            Fantastic. That updated quickly. Enjoy!

          • Elie Martinez

lol, now we all know ya numba. I’m texting you.

        • Milan Parekh

I bought it from bestbuy does that matter

        • Don

I went in to a Verizon store and they worked some magic and I have unlimited data on my new lg g2.

          • Ben Wilkie

how did you manage that?? I usually end up using about 16-20 gigs a month! I could appreciate knowing how to swing unlmted out of them!! LOL!!

          • Tom

You have to ask around. I got to upgrade and keep my unlimited data too. I was ready to give it up as I dont really use much data. The first store I went to, ran out of the LG G2 so I went to another retail store. The guy there offered to do it for me and I couldn’t be happier. However, I think you need to have a second phone on the account for them to do their magic.

      • Don

I went in to a Verizon store and they worked some magic and I have unlimited data on my new lg g2. Woot Woot!

    • Peter Blanco

I’ve had it since the day after launch. It’s worth every penny if you get rid of that awful skin. That said, the LG Stock camera app does take the best pictures I’ve seen and just recently it was ported to AOSP. Get it an enjoy! (PS, the white one is supposed to come out soon).

    • Gasaraki

I have a G2 and it’s the best smartphone i’ve ever owned. My previous phone was the GNex.

    • duke69111

      Buy it…you wont be sorry.

    • http://twitter.com/geoff5093 Geoff Johnson

      Love it too!

    • Minh

I have this phone and it’s awesome. Fast, smooth, and even better battery life. I get over 5 hours of onscreen time with moderate gaming.

    • panicswhenubered

I upgraded from a Gnex last month to a Note 3 + Galaxy Gear. I ended up selling the Galaxy Gear a few weeks later (couldn’t get into the smartwatch thing for various reasons) and just sold my Note 3 last week (Just a tad too big of a phone and wasn’t a fan of the Samsung software modifications, plus I had buyers remorse for paying $300 for the phone and another $300 for the watch). I replaced the Note 3 with an LG G2 ($49.99!!!). At first the back buttons were a pain. I could never hit the power button reliably to unlock the screen, the KnockOn feature made up for this somewhat. Once I got a nice thin TPU case on there, it became much easier to locate that power button because of the cutout on the back for the camera and buttons.

TL:DR – I’m very happy with the phone, it’s super fast, has lots of customization built in, and the camera takes some stunning pictures (13MP, excellent color balance, and OIS). I highly recommend the G2 for a VZW customer coming off a 2-year contract Gnex.

    • Clift

Running CM 10.2 Milestone 1 and its been pretty good with very minor issues. It feels like my gnex on roids.

    • Don

If you upgrade to 4g, you will get forced off unlimited data, on VZW

    • MC

Don’t worry about unlimited data Verizon is going to bring it back in 6 months.

      • AlexKCMO

Say what? Where did you hear that?
