Nexus 5 Can’t Seem to Stay Out of the Way of Blurry Cams, Surfaces Again and Again

Screenshot_2013-10-30-09-35-43_zps85511056

I don’t even know what to write about these leaks anymore. It seems like everyone has their hands on the Nexus 5 these days, only none of them know what to do with it, meaning we haven’t had new info in days. It also seems to have far surpassed almost any other phone in recent memory when it comes to unofficial sightings. What is Google waiting for?

In today’s appearances, we have the phone lying face-up on top of a retail box. People are claiming that it’s an “unboxing!” to stir up excitement, when really it’s just a blurry shot of the phone with nothing else to talk about. Well, the leaker who posted it did get scared and ask mods over at Overclockers to delete his posts and account after claiming he would leak more throughout the day. So I guess you do at least have some drama.

The other shot is from an LG Malaysia service center (pictured below). And that’s it.

Nexus 5 - 1

Oh, it also posted some rather impressive BaseMark X benchmarks for gaming, beating out the LG G2 with a score of 14.17 to the G2′s 12.53.

Update: Here is a picture of a dummy unit, because well, we hadn’t seen one of those yet.

As someone who is anxiously waiting for this phone, I wish that Google would approach this situation the same way Apple does with their flagship devices….set an official date for an announcement and have everyone tune in. Is that too much to ask Google?

    • jbdan

I actually like the way they’re doing it. I don’t want them to be like anybody else, especially A. Just me though

      • 18footJ

I get what you’re saying and totally respect that, I don’t like Apple’s cheesy presentation either but what I do like is they announce the price and availability.

The majority of the customers would appreciate that more, because not everyone has time to keep up with rumors and leaks.

        • jbdan

You’re probably right in that the majority of customers would appreciate it more if a concrete date and price of release were given (how boring would that be though! :p).

And I do understand the time it takes keeping up with the rumor mill. The Nexus, imo, is geared towards a younger demographic.

  • skinja99

What is the appeal of the N5?
    I am being sincere.

    What are folks excited about?
    -The price
    -The snapdragon 800?
    -The pure google part?

It seems like besides those two or three things, everything else is 6 month old specs. Am I missing something?

    • jbdan

It’s Google’s latest. It’s a Nexus. Everything else you mention is just bonus ;)

    • Frettfreak

All of the above…. but mostly.. KIT KAT!!

    • Ansen

The price is the big thing for me (though the other two things you mentioned are nice too). My wife and I buy our phones off-contract (pre-paid). The savings between getting two $350 phones instead of two $650 phones is pretty significant for us.

    • Steve B

You’re missing something. 6 month old specs? You had me laughing there.

      1. Goodbye Verizon
      2. Price
      3. Looks
      4. Software
      5. Specs

    • JRomeo

Which other android phone has better specs than the Nexus5 ?

  • eric stallings

Why is the bottom bezel so big!?!

    • jbdan

      The bottom loaded speakers?

    • JRomeo

almost every other cellphone has a bigger bezel than this, so the bezel is actually small in comparison.

  • CHRIS42060

I always get nervous they are taking the Nexus 5 photo with another Nexus 5….. That would be depressing.

  • Frettfreak

This will be my next phone, but the more i look at pics, the more i think they REALLY needed to cut down on the chin and “forehead” of the phone.

    • Steve B

They did compared to the N4.

      • Frettfreak

true, but thats like saying mount rainier is small than mount everest. While the statement is true, mt rainier is still fn HUGE. ;)

        • Steve B

Well, you can look at it this way, the smaller that bottom bezel gets, the more uncomfortable the device will become to use. Right now, the navbar is in a comfortable position to use one handed. The closer that navbar gets to the bottom of the device the worse. Everyone thinks they want smaller bottom bezel, but when your thumb cramps you’ll be bitching to have some bezel back :)

          • jbdan

The GS4 is a prime example of this. While I’ve adapted to it, it took “adapting to it” in the beginning. I don’t think it should be that way. For me at least

          • Steve B

So….do you like the lower positioned keys or not? Personally, I have a GS3 and hate the position of the keys, so I run it with the navbar enabled. Makes it much more comfortable to use.

          • jbdan

No I think they are too low. I had to adapt using the GS3 and 4 one handed because they are so low. The small bezel looks svelte but at that cost

          • Steve B

I agree. I think it would look better, but function worse.

    • jbdan

I will enjoy my N5, big chin and all. :)

      • Frettfreak

Oh me too. Just an observation that i didnt really notice at first.

    • Jeff

Where would they put all the internal parts that are in the ‘chin’ and ‘forehead’ then?

  • Timothy Sternig

I love how in the pic of the dummy unit they have that great new piece of technology with the Nexus 5 but in the background there’s a dude using a crappy old keyboard and outdated wired mouse lol

    • jbdan

      haha! Dell mouse?!

    • Jeff

How do you know that keyboard isn’t a $150+ mechanical with cherry switches?

      • Timothy Sternig

Technically I don’t lulz but why would he pair that type of keyboard with such a poor mouse?

Wait, maybe he spent all he had on a sweet keyboard and didn’t have enough for a nice wireless mouse. Makes sense now :P

        • Jeff

Eh, if it’s an office environment it wouldn’t make sense to have anything other than a crappy mouse and keyboard. Most people don’t provide their own computer peripherals in the office and most companies don’t provide anything fancy unless the job requires it.

  • Mayoo

Jokes aside from blurry pictures – this also shows us that it won’t be a bumper but rather a cover that we will get. Interesting.

    • Steve B

We’re not getting a cover with this phone. The one in the pic isn’t even for the Nexus 5. Camera cut out is in the wrong place.

  • Jonathan Yeboah

The more people that I see post the more I think of” We are out of inventory. Please check back soon”

  • DQ

I’m a Nexus noob and will be leaving Verizon when this thing gets released. Assuming the 5 will function on AT&T, Sprint and TM, will there be different variations of this phone for each carrier and it’s particular network? Just wondering if I’ll be sitting at the checkout screen and have to decide at that point what carrier I will be going with. Thanks!

    • jbdan

Rumors say Sprint might have a different one. That is all I’ve heard. Otherwise I’d say no to your question

    • trwb

My GSM Galaxy Nexus worked on both Tmo and At&t. Sprints one may be a separate model.

  • eazy

There’s a douchy looking guy on Google plus that has a picture with a nexus five…so jealous

  • Tim

    Verizon?

  • jaydotelloh

Sooo, if 4.4 is going to be Kit Kat, why does the N5 benchmark explicitly say “Android OS KeyLimePie”?

  • Greyhame

Looks like Google has added some underlying enhancements into 4.4 if the Basemark X benchmark scores are higher than the G2. I am excited for the Nexus 5, but WAY more excited for what Google is bringing to the table with 4.4 and new and improved Google apps. Yesterday definite whet my appetite. Plus, there’s this:

    http://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/1piilv/somethings_up_11_google_apps_are_awaiting_updates/

Tomorrow can’t get here soon enough! All treat and (hopefully) no tricks.

  • John Friend

I know 2 gigs of ram will be speedy enough. My droid maxx has 2 gigs. But I am shocked more people aren’t complaining. You know, since samsung has it in their phone, its now the new standard…lol

    • enigmaco

I think at this point people want a phone that works well, you can have top of the line specs, but if your phone does not function well what good is it?

  • Brandon Rosonina

I’m sure Google is just refreshing their site and watching the counter climb and climb!

  • https://twitter.com/N_2the_ATE Nate

Man. This is like Lebron’s “The Decision”.

  • Bionlc

I’m glad the white isn’t all white. The black front makes it look nice and like a single slate unit while the white back adds some color and pop.

    • coolsilver

Sarge told you this right? :D

      • Bionlc

I’m glad some people here are catching on

  • Cael

Oh my goodness! Tomorrow is Halloween! I wonder what candy Google will give us tomorrow?….

    • Philip J. Fry

      Kit kat!

    • John Motschenbacher

      Another play store tease lol

  • punkroyale

Google has a whole team and all they work on is press leaks. Two people are in charge of faking pics and blurry cam work. Nice gig to have.

    • hfoster52

      Yeah its called marketing. :)

      • punkroyale

    • Steve B

      We share the same future.

        Same here. Goodbye Verizon!

    • Reginald Jefferson

Sounds like a most excellent future. GO BULLS

    • A.Miller

I think I am going N5 and GoPhone.

  • MotoXYZ

All the leaks and hypebeasting has made me so unproductive the last week or so…release the Kraken Google I need my job!

    • Seth Tidwell

What? Are you spending you’re whole day looking at pictures of a cell phone because you admire the idea of having it? Just remember, it’s the hype that’s got you excited…After a month you’ll throw that phone on the ground and could care less. Consider your time wasted. Peace and love

      • Justin W

        I’ll bet you’re a blast at parties.

  • Shane Redman

Could be waiting for everyone to have updated gapps…did anyone else notice that Google secretly updated all their Gapps in the play store yesterday? Go to the play store and check the date….

    • jbdan

      Saw that. It’s happening!

      • Bionlc

        Friday.

        • Steve B

          The prodigal son returns?

          • Bionlc

With some news regarding the Moto G. 4.5 inch G=google. Release date 11/1 along with Nexus 5 and 4.4

          • Steve B

Oh nevermind. You’re not the real Bionic, poser.

          • Bionlc

You’ll regret those words Friday! All this lack of appreciation makes it hard for me to want to help you guys out and leak the latest and greatest rumors I know. Your loss.

          • Steve B

Ha, I was a strong supporter of the real Bionic, but you are not him.

          • Bionlc

He’s still around here under the name Godzilla

          • Bionlc

            or she! Gender neutral.

          • Ian

            I prefer ‘it’

    • Steve B

Yeah, the dates are changed but nobody has the updates except for G+ and Snap.

      • Shane Redman

But what if this is their answer to “staged roll outs” on key OS upgrade apps. Present all the new functionality and push it at once during or right after the presentation. The general public won’t know, but what if they “queued up” the updates in the background.

  • BobButtons

So it seems as though Nexus devices are numbered (at least roughly) off their screen size. So for the 6 will they need to make it have a 6″ screen or come up with a different name? How about just pull an Apple and call it The New Nexus! :-P

    • Shagnscooby

It’ll be the same as the Nexus 7. Next year will be the 2014 Nexus 5

    • Jeff

They’ll probably just keep it at 5″ or so, since going to a larger screen than that wouldn’t make much sense with the Nexus 7 around. They may just do the yearly update if anything, like they did with the Nexus 7 2013.

  • Cory_S

He even has a frickin case for it. Edit: actually…camera is in the wrong spot…nm :)

    • hfoster52

      G2 Case

      • Cory_S

Don’t think so, it has side button cutouts on the case.

        • hfoster52

Camera hole is in the wrong spot. Camera is off to the side and not in the middle.

          • Cory_S

            Right, it’s definitely not a N5 case.

    • John Smith

cases are easy. it’s the actual F’ing phone that’s the hard part!

BTW – i like Diztronic TPU cases best.

  • Droid Ronin

I thought the Nexus logo was supposed to be oriented along the length of the phone, not the width…

    • Jason M

It looks like that’s the startup splash on the display, not the back of the phone. Thought the same thing at first…

    • Steve B

That’s the front of the phone with the plastic protector that comes on new phones….

    • Dave Whyte

It took me a minute to realize but that is the Bootup splash screen in the picture. So it’s the front of the phone you are looking at not the back.

      • Steve B

I don’t think so. The person who took these pics was afraid of getting in trouble. Do you think he took the chance of taking the plastic film off of a brand new retail device? Don’t think so. That’s the protective film you’re seeing with a Nexus 5 logo on it.

        • Droidzilla

You are correct, but the person is very far from getting in trouble. These leaks are planned in order to build hype for the device (free advertising) and to stave people off from buying another device while this one is getting ready for release. Standard business practise.

  • JabbaMac

The only reason I’m excited for the N5 is because Kit Kat will officially be released. I’m curious to find out how long it takes to get pushed to my T-mobile Moto X vs. the N4 or “dev editions”

    • Droid Ronin

Kit Kat is being tested in Motorola internally on the Moto X, but it’s got lots of problems at the moment. The software lead says that they aim to get 4.4 to all Moto X devices by Black Friday.

      • Justtyn Hutcheson

They may have builds of 4.4 ready for all of the X variants by Black Friday, but no way will they get through all the carrier testing by then. T-Mobile, maybe, Sprint possibly. If its on Verizon or AT&T by Christmas, I would be really really surprised.

Though, skipping 4.3 entirely would be a good move on their part, honestly.

      • Jeff

My concern with the Moto X isn’t how quickly they’ll get 4.4, but if they’ll get anything after 4.4

    • Steve B

Can you honestly say you want the Moto X?

      http://versus.com/en/motorola-moto-x-vs-google-nexus-5

      • JabbaMac

The Moto X is the best phone I’ve ever used. Most of all it’s the perfect size for me. I don’t want anything bigger. The camera’s a bit lacking, but otherwise it works flawlessly.

        • Trysta

Also on T-mobile. I too want a smaller phone. In your opinion is it worth the $599 for the T-mobile moto x vs a Nexus 5 at $350? I’m kind of hesitating over forgoing the Nexus 5′s better specs and support and paying extra just for a smaller phone but the moto x form factor is perfect for me. Decisions…

          • JabbaMac

That is a tough decision. It made sense for me because I couldn’t wait to dump Sprint, and moving to Tmo saves me $50/month. The feel of this phone in hand is awesome with it’s grippy rubbery back. I have never felt like it was going to pop out of my hand like with my EVO 4G LTE. The operating system is basically stock plus the active notifications…which, to me, put the X over any non Motorola phone out there. Battery lasts all day even with lots of games. Screen looks really good and I am enjoying the amoled eye popping colors compared to lcd screens. Ok, I’ve convinced myself all over again…I would get this phone again. But, you might wait a couple weeks to see if the price will drop and for Motomaker. BTW, the spec war is over. This phone runs smooth and the user experience is top notch.

  • growupnerds

Calm down nerds. It’s still just a phone. Somebody somewhere can’t afford a meal today and you’re getting your panties in a bunch about the next $400 phone that you’re gonna buy hoping that another piece of plastic consumerism will finally fill that void in your life and make you happy. All this stupid hype for a device in an industry where you know two weeks after it’s out everyone will be obsessing about the next thing coming to market and this will be old news. Grow up and get some perspective. A hunk of plastic and circuitry assembled in some sweat factory somewhere shouldn’t get your heart pumping.

Me? I’m excited about this phone because I like shiny new things, and I am fine with that. I own right on up to it.

    • Droidzilla

  • schoat333

I get the feeling that Google is enjoying all the press that these leaks stir up. Its better than an announcement event. I bet if they just put the Nexus 5 in the play store without saying anything, the press would explode withing minutes. They don’t even need to advertise.

    • jbdan

      100% agree. Brilliant marketing

Google deja de ser tan malparido y danos el puto telefono de una jodida vez. Estoy harto de tu puta mierda.

  • iiBinxx

Wish this was coming to verizon

    • ah42

I still think it’s ridiculous that Verizon and Nexus phones can’t just get along. Verizon has the better coverage in my area, and I want a Nexus 5! They can learn from the Gnex on what not to do.

      • Justtyn Hutcheson

Verizon doesn’t care though. That’s the problem. As we can see from the GNex debacle, Verizon wants complete control, for a multitude of reasons that they believe are essential to their continued prosperity. Until proven otherwise, or they are simply forced to change, they have no impetus to do so.

    • Blue Sun

If you were a GNex user, you’d wish this on no one.

  • cjohn4043

In other news, the sky is blue.

  • Curious

Looks like the camera hole on that case wouldn’t match up with the phone? Isn’t the camera off to the side and not located in the center?

    • http://www.baldypal.com/ BaldyPal

probably right. The case looks to fit the LG G2.

EDIT: scrap what i just said. power button hole on the side of case too. but also on the wrong side. totally confused now. obviously not a N5 case.

      • th0r

        G nex case

        • Cory_S

Not that either. The case has slots for down firing speakers.

  • John Sanatar

Looks like the hardware is obviously ready, I am guessing they are working until the last minute on finishing 4.4. The phones are probably shipping with a beta version and an OTA will go live right when it is released.

  • picaso86

    I almost died :*[

  • Col_Angus

I recognize that blurry camera… GNex

    • Adam Truelove

These are way too clear for the Gnex.

      • moelsen8

we can all agree it’s a nexus camera at least, right? :P

        • http://randomphantasmagoria.com/ Shawn

Without a doubt. Nexus cameras almost universally suck.

      • Col_Angus

        Touche.

  • Butters619

This is what happens when you use a Nexus 4 to take all your Nexus 5 leak pictures.

    • moelsen8

      hahahahaha love it

      • picaso86

I really hope this phone doesn’t disappoint us later… Too my hype everyday, I think I am getting a heart attack…

        • Jason Downing

I think the only thing that could be left to disappoint is the camera… specs are like the G2 which runs amazing and it should have the latest version of Android

          • Tuney

Not just the camera, but the battery too. LG G2 has amazing battery life (3000maH) vs Nexus 5′s 2300 maH.

          • Jason Downing

true. I have the g2 and it’s awesome

        • fgonzo98

Based on what I read in the comments section on this site…this phone will disappoint! Every phone does LOL

    • Guy Pierce

No… That’s what happens when you use a GNEX to take all your Nexus5 leak pictures.

      • moelsen8

really, it’d be hard to decide a winner in that ugly photo contest.

        • Guy Pierce

Sorry I tried to reply faster but my GNEX died trying to take the 4th grainy and blurry picture.

          • Jem

I uninstalled facebook and got like 3-4 hours more daily out of my Gnex before having to charge it. Just saying.

          • dave

Are you rooted? If so try Greenify, helped tons with battery drainage.

          • Simon Belmont

I’m guessing everyone complaining about the G’Nex’s battery life here uses a VZW one? I’ve been really pleased with my GSM G’Nex’s battery life.

It easily lasts 24 hours with heavy usage (on the stock sized battery). That’s heavy internet browsing on HSPA+, picture taking, Twitter, texting, and a variety of games.

          • Guy Pierce

            Yes VZW.

          • Simon Belmont

            Heh. I figured.

Those first generation LTE chips were horrible on battery. Even despite the slightly larger battery in the CDMA G’Nexs versus the GSM ones.

          • Guy Pierce

And when my phone is off the charger my screen will come on all by itself. Even when I turn the screen off from the power button by the time I set it down again my screen comes on randomly again. It does this all day.

Also when the battery hits its low warning, it does not just tell me once. Nope I hit OK when the dialog come up and then it will instantly come up again and make that annoying noise. It does this until the battery dies. It really pisses me off. More so than just the battery dying quickly on me.

          • Simon Belmont

The screen thing is really odd. Sounds like some internal hardware issues or maybe a grounding issue.

As for the battery, have you tried replacing it? Sounds like it’s maybe old and not giving a proper reading on the actual battery charge level.

          • Guy Pierce

I have tried several batteries. In fact the one I have in there now it only 2-3 months old. I mean don’t get me wrong the phone has treated me well. I have had it since day one. but some of these things are just really annoying. And I wish I could figure out the issue. Any ideas are welcome.

          • Simon Belmont

Yeah. That’s a shame. It just sounds like it’s broken slightly internally. It’s probably not fixable.

It’s a good thing the N5 is coming soon. You can lay your old friend to rest, so to speak.

          • Guy Pierce

LOL, I was thinking of just activating my OG again. I love that thing.

          • http://www.guto.com.br Paulo Augusto de Paiva Bueno

I have no complaints at all about my Galaxy Nexus. Such a great smartphone for it’s time…

Your must be some kind of mistake, ’cause my GNex’s battery lasts almost all day.

      • Butters619

He was going to use the GNex, but the battery was dead.

Edit: Damn it. You beat me to it.

      • Xavier

everyone shut up I still have a Nexus S

        • Shaggy723

Dude… It’s time to get a new phone.

          • Xavier

what do you think I’m waiting on? lmfaoo put 2 and 2 together bro.

    • Guy Pierce

Next time I will use a leaked Nexus5 to take the leaked Nexus5 pictures.

      • Andrés Blanco

        yo dawg

    • Curtis

…or when you pull your phone out, open the camera app, take a picture, and put the phone back in your pocket in less than 3 seconds. These people are risking life itself to send us these pictures.

      • Butters619

        Yes I know..

        • Curtis

ditto! Just adding to the humerous atmosphere here at DL!

      • Adam Truelove

They’re risking their lives? Seriously? Like they’ll be killed if they’re caught? This is awful.

        • Curtis

Note sure if laughing at me… or laughing with me?!

          • http://twitter.com/rachelquire Rachel Q.

I can tell you which, if you’re still confused.

      • Andy

Their current job, not “life itself”.

    • A.Miller

Is the N4 camera no better than the GNex?

      • Simon Belmont

Frankly, I’ve never had a problem with the camera shots from my G’Nex’s camera. They come out quite well the vast majority of the time.

I’ve heard the Nexus 4′s camera isn’t that great, but I’ve actually never tried one. To each his own, I guess.

        • A.Miller

I really dislike the GNex camera. The shutter is so slow and that leads to blurry pics for me. I’m certainly no photographer, but I’d like to take some pics of my son and not have them all be blurry.

Don’t tell me to get a dedicated camera… I have one. I just always have my phone with me.

          • Simon Belmont

Haha. Well, I wasn’t gonna tell you to get anything. If you don’t like it, you don’t like it. It fits my needs just fine. ;)

Kinda ironic that its shutter speed is considered slow now. It was one of the original ZSL (Zero Shutter Lag) phones when it came out. I take pictures of my son (he’s just turned 1), and they usually don’t blur, but everyone’s mileage may vary. :)

          • John Zampier

Well, you should try the Razr HD, then you’ll think the GNex camera is awesome!

        • porter86

If you think they come out quite well you’re wrong.

          • Simon Belmont

For a camera in a phone from two years ago, they come out just fine for my purposes. It’s not like I’m blowing them up to life size and making cut outs to joust with.

Yes, cameras have made big strides in quality and performance since then. I totally acknowledge that, and look forward to the one with OIS in the Nexus 5 that I’ll be getting.

        • John Motschenbacher

I never had an issue with the camera quality on the gnex either

    • Guest

everyone shut up I still have a Nexus S.

  • jbdan

It’s brilliant marketing imo by Google. Sure it sucks waiting but it’s good for ya ;) It’ll be here in a couple days anyway! Pumped!

  • David Gilson

I’m still on Verizon so I won’t be getting this phone, but I’m excited about it and 4.4 nonetheless. One thing I’m surprised I haven’t seen people bring up though, is the bezel on the bottom of this device. To me it looks bigger than the Nexus 4′s, and way bigger than the Moto X and G2. To me, this device would be a lot better if there was not so much seemingly wasted space at the bottom of it.

    • Droidzilla

A lot of people have complained about the bezel, but there’s a rumour that it’ll have speakers there so it’s OK in my book. Hate stupid back speakers.

  • neoflex5

Do we still live in a world with blurry cellphone cameras? Really?

    • Jeff

They keep specific blurry camera devices around just for these types of situations.

  • hfoster52

Its like bigfoot and the lockness monster….

    • Joseph Williams

      Is that a hairless monster?

      • Reginald Jefferson

You’re confusing “Nessie” with it’s cousin the Lock-Less Monster, also known as “Lessie”

  • Pierito

The pics are fine….the phone is just blurry.

  • Richard Colon

….Mr. Blurry Cam always comes through in the clutch

  • Philip J. Fry

Yay for more leaks! Unless you’re wetting you’re pants

  • erikbjerkeli

Hopefully they’re waiting on Verizon certification.. *sigh* wishful thinking

    • silver_arrow

Hell Verizon wouldn’t let people use an unlocked LTE Nexus 7 that was designed to support their network so I doubt they would allow a phone

      • http://randomphantasmagoria.com/ Shawn

It works fine on Verizon as long as you already have a SIM card. Has anyone tried, recently, though? Maybe the N7 has finally passed certification and the reps will give you a SIM card for it now.

Either way, you’re right. You can’t have an unlocked phone on Verizon until they launch VoLTE on their network. The N7 gets away with it because it have any CDMA2000 support. It doesn’t need it for voice call capability and it can’t fall back to 3G or 1X if you leave LTE coverage. Once Verizon launches VoLTE coverage, though, and CDMA2000 isn’t required for voice calls, I think you’ll start seeing unlocked phones that work on Verizon.

        • http://www.toysdiva.com Toys Samurai

I am going to mark my words here, IT WON’T HAPPEN, even after they launch VoLTE. Let’s just ignore the fact that the open device requirement has a cause for exception (which Verizon will surely find a way to work around.) If I am not mistaken, that requirement only covers band 13, but Da! Da! Just when Verizon is about to decommission CDMA, it conveniently decides that band 4 is ready for prime time! Unfortunately, Verizon is not required to allow any compatible devices to be used on band 4.

          • Cory_S

That is exactly what I have been wondering about for the last year

          • http://randomphantasmagoria.com/ Shawn

Well when you consider that a) VoLTE is scheduled to launch next year, b) VZ has said that CDMA2000 won’t be fully phased out until 2021, and c) Band 4 can’t cover near the area that band 13 can, you won’t have to worry about them only rolling out VoLTE on band 4. VoLTE will exist on band 13 and it’s as simple as that.

The AWS band (where band 4 is) runs at 1700/2100 uplink and downlink. Ask T-Mobile how coverage works on that scale. Why do you think they can’t provide HSPA+ outside of metro areas? They stick with EDGE in the sticks because they can run it on the lower 850 and 900 GSM bands which cover much larger areas. It’s not that they don’t want to…I think it’s because financially they just can’t cover the same area with HSPA+ that they can with EDGE.

Verizon will run into the same issues with band 4. They’ll use it to support band 13, but the idea of running an entire separate LTE network on band 4 is wishful thinking, even for Verizon.

          • Adrynalyne

They won’t be switching to only band 4, so no, I don’t see this coming true.

The FCC would fine them into oblivion before such a feat would even be possible anyway.

      • Adrynalyne

That is not accurate at all.

They cannot currently ACTIVATE it (you know, the sim) without using a dummy MEID.

  • Rock_Kickass

It’s to the point where I get so excited about these stupid leaks that my heart rate increases, is something wrong with me?

    • jbdan

      Not at all!

    • derp

      Yes actually very much.

      • jbdan

Stop being a buzzkill please. Fill yourself with positiveness stop the negativity. I promise it’ll change your life!

    • John Motschenbacher

      yes

  • El_Big_CHRIS

I want Google to just announce it already! The suspense is killing us

  • enigmaco

At this point I am extremely happy with my moto x it does what I want it to do, and I am not left wondering when the heck it is being released. Come on Google don’t be evil.

    • Jeff

You’re not left wondering when the Moto X is being released? Wha?

      • Joseph Barrientos

he meant to put a period after “i want it to do”. thus talking about the Nexus 5 release date.

      • enigmaco

There corrected my bad on the clarification.

    • Craig Jacobs

I was going to pull the trigger on a moto x, then I thought about how I could get the Nexus 5 for $349 unlocked and off contract, and decided that I can wait.

Also I don’t think Google is being evil at all.You can’t hold them accountable for not releasing something they haven’t announced. Even if all these leaks are sanctioned I think it falls more on the douche side than the evil side.

      My credit card is ready.
