Nexus 5 Press Renders Show Both Black and White Versions, Could Arrive November 1

nexus 5 white

Thanks to famed tech leaker @evleaks, we now have two new press renders for the upcoming Nexus 5 in both white and black along with a potential release date. As you can see from each included picture, it does appear as if we’ll see two variants, which we sort of figured after a couple of previous leaks. Nothing is necessarily new in either of the renders, but this is the clearest picture yet of the white model. We had only seen the white Nexus 5 on a retail box and in a spycam shot a few weeks back.

So when will we finally be able to buy the new Nexus 5?

According to @evleaks, it could arrive as early as November 1. His Tweet with the white render only said “In white. 11/1.” While nothing is confirmed or official at this time, we tend to listen when Evan speaks or provides information about upcoming devices. The man has a great track record.

We’re still a little confused at why there has been no indication of a press event for Google to unveil this phone and show off Android 4.4. Both products seem worthy of some extra attention, though Google still remains less typical as a tech giant than most. Or maybe the event will happen mid-week as a last minute gathering? Either way, temporarily pencil in this Friday as a potential day for you to spend $349.

Whatever the case with the Nexus 5… Verizon is not getting this phone – or any other Nexus phone of the future for matter. It sucks, and Verizon is a bunch if fascists, but that is the truth.

    • Chris

They just need new management or a new CEO…

      • duckmanbill

Except they are making fistloads of money. So until that stops, nothing will change.

        • http://about.verizon.com/leadership/ Lowell C. McAdam

carrying or allowing Nexus devices on their network would make them even more money. They are going to have to let go of some power over their customers if they want to give themselves a new image – their current one depicts them as a bunch of money hungry CEO’s with anal retentive control freak tendencies, combined with a tendency to give their customers the shaft whenever they can get away with it.

    • duckmanbill

Rule the Air. Rule the Reich!

  • duckmanbill

“The man has a great track record.” Except being completely wrong about his previous N5 rumour. Don’t believe a word he says.

    • Tim242

He has been wrong once or twice. The other million times, he has been spot on. I think you are being a bit hard on him.

      • duckmanbill

I just find it ridiculous the amount people will believe from these people, who obviously have about as much clue as you and me about upcoming devices.

        • Tim242

Are you serious? You must be new around here. Evleaks has leaked many phones and release dates over the years.

          • duckmanbill

            An infinite number of monkeys….

          • HarvesterX

Except Evan is just one monkey…. (lol not sure if he’d like beingccompared to a monkey but…). Seriously, though, Evan has been correct MUCH more often than incorrect. It still means he could be wrong, but he doesn’t like to post rumors that aren’t grounded in reality and based on some facts. We could always start a pool going… I’ll happily star taking bets and will give 1:3 odds.

          • HarvesterX

No, it’s not the one in WallBox (which has diamonds). I still have the same one (sitting in my Dropbox Wallpaper folder). I’m thinking I found it on Zedge but I’m like you, I’ve had it for so long I’ve forgotten where it came from. It might also be from an old Avalon theme on the OG DROID tthatiI helped work on. It was an all white theme and never took off the ground because of all the freaking framework edits and so on. It was back during either Froyo or Gingerbread. I stopped working on it when I couldn’t get it ported over correctly to Bugless Beast (lol wonder what Pete is working on, haven’t talked to him in years). Oh well.

    • Chris

So being wrong on one or two things but right on almost everything else?

      • duckmanbill

Being wrong about the very device that matters. And when everyone else thought his rumor seemed out of whack.

    • trixnkix637

And who’s to say his previous *rumor (you’re prob British), wasn’t spot on to begin with, but then changed at the last moment? He’s not Nostradamus for crying out loud.

      • John

He could be Canadian, we spell it that way as well.

        • trixnkix637

I did not know that. Meant no disrespect by the way Canadian, British, or otherwise.

          • John

No problem, I didn’t take any disrespect from it, hopefully duckmanbill didn’t either.

  • Ant

I have an idea let’s play a game of guess the launch date of the nexus 5, since all the phone blogs seem to be doing it with no official word from Google. I’ll go first.

Reports predict the Nexus 5 will launch after this Monday sometime before Saturday lol.

  • Eric Cappa

Shouldn’t it be all white instead of the back being white and the front being black?

    • psychoace

Nope, then the white on the front will be distracting when watching movies. Also it would make the screen seem smaller because of the contrasting boarders. WIth the screen being black and the boarder being black it looks uniform and big.

      • Z

Maybe to you, but clearly there are lots of people in this thread who don’t care if the white is ‘distracting’ watching movies..

      • duckmanbill

are you saying black is bigger? :)

        • ToddAwesome

          generally speaking, yes.

      • Tim242

That is the dumbest excuse. Are you serious? All other white phones are white on the front, and sell like hotcakes. If they made it white on the front and black on the back, would you accept it as a black phone?

  • ferrari187

camera and battery life, they NEED to make that happen

  • interstellarmind

ugh – disappointed in the white “panda” version!

The N4 has to be the best looking nexus device to date.

Black N5 for me. What’s everyone else gonna go for? Panda N5 or black?

    • http://www.droid-life.com Kellex B

Probably black for me. And agree, N4 was a pretty phone.

      • jbdan

        Was! :p

Looks sharp. Only a few more days!

    • Jeff

I like the looks of the Nexus One more than the Nexus 4.

  • Dee Lee

Google try to get you all hype up and get all you advertising for them just like Apple everytimes they have a new products. They just want to make sure that they have enough sales before they release the Nexus 5. Google do all these leaks to get all the android fan on board to spread more rumors so they can get more attention, You all know that Google have the Nexus 5 and don’t want to release it yet. Google try to prove the points that they have the control market of android smartphones, but Google don’t. There are more better phone than Nexus 5 out there.

    • MikeSaver

      Well said

    • Tom Carrio

Or maybe they’re not going to say a word so they can get more inventory built up, test out their webpage terminals, and have a clean launch because they have to kick last years reputation out the door. I mean, that also makes sense, no?

  • Tim242

They really need to make whit phones…white.

    • duckmanbill

      That’s racialist

  • #D

I just returned my Note 3 and payed a $50 restocking fee. Come on Google, I need a phone now.

  • A.Miller

So I’m still on VZW, but I am thinking of buying this and trying ATT prepaid for a month to see if the service in my area is sufficient compared to VZW.

I don’t want to cancel VZW and give up unlimited in case ATT doesn’t work out. But, is there a way to forward calls/texts from my VZW number to a different number? Probably not, but worth a shot to ask.

    • HarvesterX

Get a Google Voice number (very easy to do), and have it set up on your Verizon device. Then once you get the N5, go into settings on the desktop version of the gvoice web page and forward your Google voice number on the VZW device to your N5 number. It’s actually simpler than I made it out to sound.

      • A.Miller

Is that easy to reverse too if I decide to stick with vzw?

        • http://about.verizon.com/leadership/ Lowell C. McAdam

It’s very easy. Log into your Google account and follow his instructions – Google voice is a very effective and reliable service, and especially so for what you’re trying to do.

        • HarvesterX

Undoing it very simple. Google Voice has a really nice Web interface for managing everything. One caveat is, the people that call you will need to do your Google voice number instead of your Verizon number. I use this all the time. Great example is when I want my cell calls to come through to my work number, or if I’m in a extremely remote area thst Verizon doesn’t cover and visiting friends. I’ll quickly log into the site before I enter the dead zone area and forward all calls to my friend’s landline (or their working cell).

Ilovetechnology is also right. That way you wouldn’t even have to give a separate number out. I’m not sure if that will also forward your texts though. The Gvoice method will forward both calls and texts over. And it provides many other benefits as well. On Verizon devices though, you have to manually set up some things while installing the gvoice app. Well more technically, you have to dial *71[Your Gvoice number] in order to activate a few things and then go into Phone > Settings > Setup Voicemail (whatever it’s called) and change carrier from Verizon to Google Voice. After doing this, you’ll be able to use the Visual Voicemail feature of the Voice app and it works rregardless of if your Google number or your carrier number is called.

    • ilovetechnology

You can use call forwarding to send your calls to your new AT&T number:

      http://support.verizonwireless.com/support/features/calling_features/call_forwarding.html

You’ll have to use an app of some kind to forward texts. When I was doing a similar trial with the Nexus 4 I just wound up carrying both phones for a while so I could check the coverage side by side everywhere I went.

      • A.Miller

        Thanks!

  • http://www.androidrootz.com/ Anuj Patel

All I want is a release date…nothing more!

  • Epic Tea

Seriously google how hard is it to give us a completely white nexus option?? This just looks like a black one with a case on it.

    • Tim242

Totally agree. Why do they insist on this panda/oreo nonsense?

    • Eduardo Ortiz

      Like this?

  • jack nunez

where can I get the wallpaper

  • JDMendiola

my nexus 4 cracked about a month or so ago , so i bought a moto x as a temp phone (its going to be given to a family member) as much as im excited for the nexus 5 , im going to miss my moto x , this phone grows on you ! but as soon as the nexus 5 goes on sale , byebye moto x , it was a fun month with you .

    • Travillion

I bought a Moto X subsidized on AT&T 7 weeks ago. Loved it. Until Wednesday when I dropped it for the first time and the screen shattered. Now I am desperately waiting for the Nexus 5 to be released so I can purchase a phone outright at a reasonable cost.

      • JDMendiola

ive dropped my moto x one time , but it didn’t shatter . that’s how i lost my nexus 4 though . dropped it from waist high onto ceramic tile . . completely shattered . felt like a near death experience , slow motion and my life (with my nexus4) flashed before my eyes . .

  • chris

what happens when there is an all white background? will the notification bar become useless?

    • Tim242

It will probably still be black in apps.

      • chris

what about if i have a white background though? that’s mostly what i was getting at. if it doesnt change or account for that then, even though it looks nice, this is pretty crappy design.

        • Tim242

Yeah, I agree. It is crappy design. I don’t care for transparent status bars.

        • http://www.droid-life.com Kellex B

I have a feeling there will be a slide grey fade to it so you’ll still be able to see it.

          • turdbogls

agreed…its the only way to make sure the icons dont get lost is any background we choose.

    • Steve B

The top and bottom of the launcher homescreen has a slight shade to it to prevent washout on white wallpapers. All apps will have a black status and nav bar.

    • Steve B

Similar to what I have, but probably not quite as dark.

      • Steve B

Looks better with a darker background though…

      • HarvesterX

Hey, I have that wallpaper! Not using it though, but I have it. Was that one of the Wallpapers that came with WallBox? Yeah I think so. I’m using the one with the orangish cube. :)

        • Steve B

Honestly don’t remember. Got it a while ago.

  • http://about.verizon.com/leadership/ Lowell C. McAdam

Verizon doesn’t need this phone, so I called Eric Smidt and told him we don’t want it.

I mean you guys are lucky because you can buy the ultra exclusive DROID live of phones if you want the latest and greatest Verizon has to offer.

I even made sure there is EXTRA Verizon apps and not one, but two different versions of Backup Assistant on every DROID sold!

You can thank the guys in marketing for that one.

We don’t want these stupid Google phones in our network, they just ate not secure enough. So go buy another DROID and be happy!

Anyone notice how the black one is of lower quality?

  • A.Miller

Is this expected to have the same camera as the G2?

    • Steve B

No. 8MP, but it does have OIS.

      • interstellarmind

As long as it’s the same SENSOR as the G2 13mp vs 8mp shouldn’t make a difference.

        • A.Miller

I hope you’re right. Camera is the big thing I need in my next phone.

How much diff will the software make?

          • interstellarmind

Vic Gundotra posted on Google+ a while back that the camera on the N5 would be very, very good (after trying to decide between taking his phone – presumably an N4- or DSLR on vacation with him he decided on the latter because the phone camera was not up to snuff).

I have NO problems with the N4 camera – so I’ll be more than happy with the N5 camera, methinks.

          • A.Miller

I remember that. How did the N4 camera compare to GS4 or G2? I need something w/ shorter shutter.

I’ve missed so many good shots of my son due to the GNex.

  • Suxus5

What a bunch of snerds drooling over a mediocre device like iSheep standing in line for last year’s specs.

    • Brian Walker

How is this last year’s specs? Last I checked the snapdragon 800 is pretty high end.

      • Tom Carrio

        Snapdragon 800 is the highend.

        • Brian Walker

          EXACLTY!

    • Jordi Agricola

So the Snapdragon 800 and Android 4.4 are ‘last year’?

Is it weird that the time for:
    White – 4:40
    Black – 7:00
seriously, is that weird or no? lol

    • Brendan Owens

Black version will run iOS7, White will run Kit Kat 4.4
      DUH!

    • CHRIS42060

4:40 + 7:00 would be 11:40 so it could point to an 11/4 release date………. Yes I believe aliens are being studied at Area 51 as well.

    • Skittlez

i saw that same picture when they had a leak from that carrier in canada on the black one.

  • Tyler Casilio

Does anybody else see the KitKat’s in the mountains? lol Maybe I’m just seeing things

The white back and black front is so dumb, just make it all white…

I can’t wait for this thing to finally come out so I can start getting hype about the Nexus 6.

    • Chris Hannan

And after that we can hype about the Nexus 7.

      Wait…

      • acras

I’m excited about whats coming in 5 years… Nexus 10!

  • Rodeojones000

I caved. Couldn’t wait any longer and couldn’t decide if leaving Verizon for what is spotty coverage at best with other carriers in my area was worth it. Got the G2 from Best buy a couple hours ago for $49 after they price-matched Amazon and gave me a $50 gift card for trading in my wife’s old Bionic.

    • rightchoice

      G2 13mp 3000mAh + whatever ROM you want + Verizon network > mediocre Nexus 5

      • acras

How is the N5 mediocre? You have one in your hand to directly compare to the G2? First hand knowledge of the battery life? An 8mp camera can be great in a phone , just throwing more mp in a phones camera isn’t going to make it a DLSR killer , and the majority of pictures we take with our phones will look great with 8mp as long as the software is dialed in .
I agree the G2 rooted and tweaked looks to be a really solid option , especially for those that have to stick with Verizon

        • bonix

They said the same thing about the gnex and it’s 5MP camera. We all know how that turned out.

          • Skittlez

that was also 2 years ago

          • acras

When did they say the software was optimized on that camera ? The camera has not been a high priority on Nexus phones prior to now . Allegedly they are changing that with the N5 , we will see. More MP does not equal higher quality . Everyone just wants higher numbers , I’d rather have a 5 mp with a great sensor and dialed in software , than have an iffy 8 or 13mp just to please the number chasers . Crappy high mp pictures taking up a ton more storage on my phone isn’t my idea of a good time. Of course if both had great sensors and software I would take a 13mp

          • A.Miller

This is going to make the decision for me… I need more info on the camera.

If the camera is good, I’m going to ATT prepaid from VZW. If its not, I’ll probably buy GS4 or G2 off of Swappa to keep unlimited on VZW.

          • TylerCameron

Why a GS4? TouchWiz is worse thwn ever before. The design is so bad. The phone feels so cheap. The HTC One runs circles around the damn thing..

          • A.Miller

Yeah, I just don’t like the One much. I like the gs4 for having sd cards and replaceable battery.

I also thought gs4 camera was best.

          • acras

Check out reviews of the camera , I’ve heard some less than favorable reviews about the s4 camera, not to mention the crazy amount of preloaded apps. I never looked into it much because the s4 was never on my radar for purchase , so i don’t know about the camera for sure

          • A.Miller

Hmm. I always thought it was supposed to be the best camera…. Which do you think is best?

          • acras

I’m not the one to ask, i don’t have experience with any of the new cameras first hand, just what I’ve read in passing. I’ve read or heard a few opinions that favored the HTC One over the s4, if i remember , between them , one had better color balance and the other better stablization . If I had to recommended JUST the camera on a phone, I’m afraid it would be an iphone, but i wouldn’t recommend any other aspect of it for most people. There should be plenty of camera comparisons on the web , take them with a grain of salt and pick which best serves you.

          • George264

5S? Some DSLRs have lower MP than Lumias, Lumias don’t take better pictures.

          • A.Miller

Yeah gnex camera was supposed to be good. It blows and I’ve missed lots of good stuff due to it.

          • George264

That’s where they messed up. The iPhones have stayed at the same MP count for 3 years and yet the detail and color reproduction is leaps and bounds above any phone I’ve taken pictures on. It’s better than the S4 in the pictures basic consumers are taking and low-light is only better on the One and Lumia 1020.
If Google/LG did this right and going in the same direction Apple is going, focusing on the actual pictures rather than glamour specs then this camera could be fantastic.

          • H2OSKI

And what possible reason would we have to believe Google is going to do something special w this camera? Don’t forget who is in fact manufacturing this thing.

Let’s also not forget who has produced a long line of crap cameras in the Nexus phones. We have a lot more history that says Google will fail just like they did with the garbage camera in the current N4. My EVO 4G takes better pics than our Nexus 4s.

          • A.Miller

How soon will we know if the camera is any good or not?

          • acras

Because they announced that the camera was going to be a priority in the nexus line a few months back . They never cared before, but the announcement gives hope that they are going to try to give us a solid camera in a nexus for a change.

      • Skittlez

i’m sorry. this is false. i’d much rather have a phone with the same RAM, memory, and processor for a much lower price. and whatever ROM you have right now will have 3G/4G handoff problems until 4.3 radios are put out.

        • TylerCameron

Do you have a source for this? I have only seen 3G/4G handoff issues on a Verizon Galaxy Nexus with a defective radio. Every other phone was just fine. Even on Android 2.2!

      • Rodeojones000

While I’m so far liking the phone, I wouldn’t say it’s a better option than the Nexus 5. If it wasn’t for the poor coverage of other carriers in my area (AT&T is the only other option I have but they are definitely lacking compared to Verizon) and the fact that I was able to get it for $49, I would have been content to wait a little longer. My GNex, despite a cracked screen and crappy battery life, still worked. We’ll see what happens over the next couple days and perhaps I’ll return this and still go with the Nexus. This G2 is a nice phone, but I’ll always choose a Nexus over a non-Nexus whenever possible.

      • TylerCameron

The Verizon G2 is unusable. There is an AWFUL carrier logo on the front. Completely unacceptable.
And buying the G2 also makes LG say “Hmmm.. People must like our UI! People must like the fact that we did the navbar incorrectly!”

      • turdbogls

loosing unlimited data, or paying $600+ for a phone i have to modify to get it how i want it + paying over $80/month<paying $350 outwrite for phone, and $30/month with "unlimited data" on a network i know is just as solid as verizons in my area.

edit: not sure if you guys are seeing that, but that comment went CRAZY on me. shows up normal when i go to edit it, so hopefully only i can see it…lol.

    • Reginald Jefferson

Hold up! They are willing to price match Amazon? Seriously? Why won’t Radio Shack do this?

      • Rodeojones000

Yeah. Surprised me as well. I went there because yesterday it was listed on the BB website as $99 plus you get a $50 gift card when you trade in any working smartphone. However, that sale ended yesterday so it was back to $199. I just happened to ask if they’d price match Amazon and they said yes, as long as it’s sold officially from Amazon and not from a 3rd party seller. Add in the $50 gift card promotion which is still going (and you can immediately use form the purchase) and I got mine for $49. I left feeling like I pulled a fast one on them.

        • Reginald Jefferson

Wow man. That’s an awesome deal.

    The back isn’t removable, correct?

    • NexusPhan

It is. Just not as easily removed as you’d probably like it to be.

  • Allan

The white is starting to grow on me. Something different. Although the huge black camera circle looks kind of weird on the all white.

  • evan brown

      • bobby

Or maybe because the side rendering is from a lower angle making the power button look flush with the camera…

        • Keith Young

That makes a lot of sense. If the side view was perfectly level you would see the increasing slope towards the centre of the phone.

      Maybe its like a mirage?

    • CHRIS42060

Maybe its an advanced form of OIS in which the entire camera moves on the back of the device to stabilize the image……. or they should have gotten some better graphic artists.

    • Caveman

These are not the Nexus’ you are looking for.

    • Skittlez

are you sure thats not the sim slot and the black button below that is the one thats really sticking out?

      • Wolfpack93

That’s what I thought until I applied the theory.

  • Rob Schlegel

The white is kind of cool, though if it’s the same soft touch material it seems like there’s some potential for it get a little grimey. Wouldn’t mind the option of just switching out the back plate though.

  • Jess B

You can form 11/1 with 4 KitKat bars.

    • acras

And 1/1 with a little snack , so maybe Jan. 1 . Or M , so we could see it in 100 days

  • Geo

Buy Nexus 5. Buy opposite colored back. You have two Nexus 5’s?

  • Geo

It should be easy to make the nexus 5 either version no? Just buy the back color of choice and it should just snap on and off?

    • Eric

Or just buy the version you like?

      • Geo

        Maybe I like both?

    • acras

In the FCC filings , weren’t the NFC and wireless charging coils attached to the “non-removable” back? would make switching a lot harder than just popping the back off

      • turdbogls

yes…..you can probably still buy other backs though…it just wont be a $10 piece of plastic…It’ll be a $80 piece of plastic and coil…..you just killed my dreams of cheap aftermarket colored back plates :(

        • acras

And dont forget the ability to solder on a very tiny board, depending on how those coils are connected. You better be WAAAY better with a soldering iron than I am if they are soldered on or you will BBQ your shiny new N5

          • turdbogls

from the FCC pics, it looked like it was just some Pins that would transfer the charge over, there wasn’t a cable connecting the back and the body.

  • Shane Redman

Anyone heard something about a Nexus8 tablet? As opposed to a new nexus 10?

    • http://www.droid-life.com Kellex B

Saw one site report on it, model LG-V510. Basically claimed it was a version of the LG G Pad 8.3, but turned Nexus.

      • hkklife

If that report is true, (and I HIGHLY doubt it is) thrn as long as it has 32 gigs of internal storage that would be an absolutely perfect Android tablet.

My only N7 2013 complaints are someone underwhelming battery life and the usual Asus quality control issues. Also, I still feel like the screen is 1″ too small. A Nexus 8 would address ALL of those concerns.

        • z

…It would only address the screen concern. Just because it’s 8″ doesn’t mean it will not be made by Asus and it will have a good battery.

  • JoshHenry

just the back is white? lame (I know this is just a render). Im all in if it comes in gold!

    • http://www.droid-life.com Kellex B

Yeah, the white back is throwing me. I at least wish they would have brought the white up the sides too.

      • Derek Petersen

I agree, though I think they’re doing it this way to keep costs down. The cost of making a separate white chassis (sides and/or front) in addition to a white back-cover was probably prohibitive. Just my guess…

      • meijin3

Black bezels don’t distract from what’s going on on screen.

        • Tim242

Neither do white bezels. If you don’tlike white bezels, ddon’t buy a white phone : )

  • Marvin

What do we think the chances are that the Nexus 5 will work Sprint’s network. Do we think it’s almost a sure thing, or is it just more likely given the rumored specs?

    • http://www.droid-life.com Kellex B

Pretty sure FCC docs showed Sprint compatibility.

      • Marvin

        Ohh excellent to hear. Thanks.

  • afunyunyununyunun

Okay, so guessing announcement the 31st, availability 11/1?

    • beerme828

I wish they would announce it early on the 31st and throw in free overnight delivery so we could have it before the weekend.

  • Alex Coldstone Simon

since the nexus 7 (2013) LTE came with bands capable of all networks (looking at your verizon), do we think this might follow in it’s footsteps?

    • http://www.droid-life.com Kellex B

No. The FCC docs show that it doesn’t work on Verizon’s 3G network. So even if it somehow works on Verizon’s LTE network (like the N7), it wouldn’t matter because you need their 3G network to do things like, make calls.

      • dtraini30

        People still make calls?

      • CHRIS42060

Unless they use Google Voice as their primary phone call service. Then they could make calls as long as they were in an LTE area.

      • Alex Coldstone Simon

Gotchya, thank Kellen for killing the dreams of many… ;) keep up the good work DL team

  • Cory Wilson

why do they leave the whole front bezel black on the white models? it looks tacky

    • Tim242

Totally agree! Nobody else does that

    • Guest

tl:dr black navigation tray and on-screen buttons are why the black face worked for me.

Until this upcoming version of Android there has always been a black bezel for the notification tray and navigation buttons. With an all-white phone it would have had horrible contrast (imo), and especially with the Galaxy Nexus with the AMOLED screen, the black blended very well into the bezel.
      I loved that.

I wouldn’t have wanted them to change that either. With the new transparency design, that reasoning is no longer there and I could definitely do with a full-white phone now. However I’m still sort of partial to the black front because that’s what I’d always loved about the Nexus design.

It’s up in the air now with the redesign, that’s all I’m saying. They can design it whichever way I’d like I don’t have a preference for this one anymore because I’ve liked them both.

      • Cory Wilson

All black front would look ok if the screen was recessed inside the trim…but the 4, and I’m assuming the 5, have the screens that wrap around the corner, so it looks real tacky. It just looks like they cheaped out and used as little white as possible. Like those Tan chevy cavalier interiors that still have black steering wheels and dash trim

  • StankyChikin

I’d pay $700 for this thing.

    • beerme828

how bout this, you pay $700 for two, and send me one? :)

      • StankyChikin

How about I pay $700 for two and give one to my son :)

        • Ian

          No deal!

    • acras

I’ll sell you as many as you want at $700 a pop

  • Philip J. Fry

I never would have thought LG could make a phone look that good.

    • Eric

you think that’s beautiful? I think it looks super bland like every other phone. At least the nexus 4 had a little variation.

      • trwb

I totally agree with you. I personally think the galaxy nexus looked the best.

        • Eric

I like the galaxy nexus except I don’t like how the back was grey.

        • A.Miller

How does this look different than the Galaxy Nexus?

          • acras

Have you seen a Galaxy Nexus ? Camera in a different location and different shape , removable textured back , rear speaker , chin at the bottom , front speaker shape , front facing camera in different position… just a little different

          • turdbogls

its about as different as a slab of plastic with a sheet of glass covering the front can be…..which isn’t very different.

          • acras

If the differences I listed along with several i didn’t constitute not much difference within the context of this conversation in your world , then disregard my comment. We’re contrasting two phones , not the Sistine Chapel and a 4 year olds finger painting of the family dog on the living room wall . However small in the grand scheme of things , the Gnex and the N5 are VERY different devices from a design standpoint

        • Steve B

The Gnex had one of the ugliest backs of any phone I ever owned. Thank God for cases.

        • angermeans

Blah. Although the Galaxy Nexus was the best phone Samsung has ever made it was my least favorite (by design standards only) of the Nexus lineup. Actually, now that I think of it the only Nexus I really liked based on design was the Nexus One. Now that was a sexy phone. I still miss that beast.

      • Eric

lol everyone is saying it looks beautiful just because it’s a nexus.

        • Pedro

          It’s the sexy bootloader.

          • michael arazan

Just Wait For the Nexus Mixer, Exclusively at ATT

        • acras

Yea , everyone feels the need to hype , or bash the design . It looks fine in my opinion , I don’t think they will ever design a phone that makes me say ” THAT LOOKS AMAZING!” just off design. It’s a phone that has to fit in my pocket , it’s not a Porsche or a Bugatti , so there is a limit to what they can do .

          • angermeans

I have to say I disagree. One of my favorite things about mobile tech is the hardware design. It can have the best specs in the world and if it looks like garbage (cough cough all of Samsung’s designs) I won’t buy it. With that said it also has to run extremely well as if all it has is design I also have to take a pass (cough cough Nokia. If it ran something other than WP8 I would have a very different opinion on that).

          • acras

To each their own , but i do have to question your taste . Sammy was found guilty of copying the design of the single most popular mobile device in the world , that has been designed by an award winning world renowned designer . Then you point to the Nokia as design you love with tech you don’t. Are you talking about the Lumia that looks like a giant version of the ipod mini from 2004 ? That phone makes my short list of butt-ugly newer mobile devices, but i could be weird.

          • angermeans

I don’t think I understand what you are saying or why your questioning my taste. I agree with you the huge Nokia phones of late are very ugly (although I have yet to find a larger phone to be built well). Are you implying that because Samsung copies apple that they are in the same league when it comes to design? Because if you ask me I think hardware design is the only thing Samsung should have copied apple on, but clearly hasn’t. No one would put a Samsung device on the level as an iOS, Nokia, or even HTC of late. There is no mistaking that Samsung needs to do a lot better on hardware design they even go the extra mile to make their devices beyond bad and near tacky (such as the fake polished aluminum they try with plastic or the fake leather look and feel, with fake leather stiching on the note 3). Nokia and now apple make plastic devices (apple has made plastic before), but they do it in an entirely different way and no one would confuse them with Samsung products. Hardware design has always been samsungs Achilles heel. So question my taste all you want, but I’m pretty sure more than. A handful of people agree that Samsung severely is the worst when it comes to hardware design (at least in the top tier OEMs).

          • acras

The issue of taste was specific and limited to you saying you liked the design of Nokias , and I was asking if that included the one that looks like a giant 2004 ipod mini ( I think it’s the 920) . I can’t think of a Nokia that stands out as having a great design , build quality is another matter , as is UI .

Your comment – ” Because if you ask me I think hardware design is the only thing Samsung should have copied apple on, but clearly hasn’t. ” doesn’t make much sense , since most people for years have seen that Samsung has been copying apple design , and the U.S, federal court found Samsung guilty of copying physical design elements of Apple phones .

Samsung phones by and large have been clones of Iphones with lower build quality . Not crap build , just not as high quality .

    • angermeans

I have to say I agree. It is gorgeous. Best Nexus phone since the Nexus One. I might have to pick me up one of these. Plus who am I kidding who doesn’t want to be one of the first to try out Kit Kat

    • michael arazan

Let’s actually hope LG can keep up the production of this phone

Last year it took almost 9 months to produce 400,000 units of the original nexus 4, it was out of stock for months

  • DC_Guy

Are they trying to steal Apple’s thunder with a potential 11/1 release date though?

    • Jaime Kerr

      Apple still has thunder?

      • DC_Guy

        I think they do…

      • CHRIS42060

        Maybe a dull roar?

  • trd105

Oh man I realllly want that white one.

  • evolutionx1

    Man, that phone is beautiful.

  • DC_Guy

I’ll believe it when I see it.

  • Fahad Beg

    HYPEBEAST.

  • EnterTheNexus

    Please, come to Verizon!!!

    • Buur

      Isn’t happening…

    • trwb

      Verizon is bad for Android

      • Tim242

Verizon’s Droid campaign is what put Android on the map.

        • trwb

Yes I know. Verizon, Moto and Google were a good team at one time briefly. Now Verizon has turned their back to Google and provides their own hindered brand of Android.

    • CHRIS42060

There is a better chance of Kate Upton marrying me than there is of this phone coming to Verizon.

    • Anon

You’ll finish picking fly crap out of pepper with boxing gloves before another Nexus device is released on Verizon.

      • John Smith

excuse me sir but that’s a great metaphor. or analogy. or whatever. bravo.

      • A.Miller

Think it’ll take that long for VOLTE?

        • Tim242

It doesn’t even have Verizon’s LTE bands

          • A.Miller

            No kidding. He said “ever.”

          • Tim242

Nope, that word is not there. You even put it in quotes haha try again.

    • BB BB

If its unlocked why can’t you just order it from Google unless you want to get ripped off with a contract paying a subsidy on a phone where subsidies don’t exist.
