Samsung Intros SideSync App, Allows Phone and PC to Work as One

YouTube Preview Image

Today, Samsung is showing off SideSync, a new way for your Galaxy device and PC to work in tandem. Once you hook your Galaxy up to a PC with the software and app installed, your device then becomes an extension of the PC, allowing you to access certain device features from the PC and vice versa. For example, if you are working on a Word doc on the PC, then need to leave the Starbucks, you can simply drag and drop the file onto your phone and make your escape.

The app is available through the Samsung Apps app found on your Samsung device, so go check it out. As a reminder, you will need to have a Samsung account to download it, so make sure to get one of those.

could anyone tell me how to upload photos from a samsung phone to a chromebook please, the chromebook doesnt seem to recognise the phone or any camera i plug into it

  • feztheforeigner

At this point, I think Google should just go ahead and buy Samsung…

    • Mike K

Uh… Samsung is a LOT bigger than Google. Samsung’s revenue was 250 billion. Google’s revenue was only 50 billion.

  • TechGuy22

    samsung itunes.

Why would it require a samsung PC? It’s just running windows and a usb driver… what ever the app is doing to determine if you are using a samsung PC could be spoofed.

a samsung pc required? you might want to mention that guys ^^^^^^^^^

  • mcdonsco

Not sure I understand the haters on this…doesnt seem to require a Samsung PC, though I’m fairly sure it requires a Samsung phone.

I’ve tried things like this in the past, like air droid etc, always really clunky, didn’t work real well…if this turns out to be a solid implementation, smooth etc I’m in!

ShareKM!!!!!!!!!!!! no pc limitiatoins and works flawlessly. its like having a dual monitor set up. It doesnt have the features as advertised in the samsung app. but i have a custom pc and it does exactly what i wanted. i can use my keyboard and mouse on my note 2. so i can be playing a full screen game or movie with my phone docked, then just slide my mouse over to my “2nd monitor” (android phone)… repsond to a text with my pc keyboard… then slide on back. works via usb/wifi/bluetooth.

… or respond to a text on your PC with an app like Mighty Text. There are many options that can be done with or without a Samsung device.

  • Derekwolfee

Everyone should try airdroid as an alternative anyone can use.

Why am i not finding a “Samsung Apps” app on my Verizon S3?

    • jnt

Verizon doesn’t allow that kind of stuff typically.

      • ckruppy

True, downloaded from website no problem though. In shock this app only works with a Sammy laptop. This would be so nice to respond to text messages while at work on my laptop!

        • jnt

Check out MightyText. I’m addicted to it for that very reason. There’s a Chrome extension, but you don’t have to have it. Just a browser will do. Also works on your Android Tablet. It’s greatness.

          • ckruppy

Thanks, that program is pretty decent

        • Trey Mitchell

most Samsung phones actually already does this its called kies air and it works over wifi so…..

          • ckruppy

Except it’s terrible at text messaging, which is the main feature i’m looking for

  • Chris Clancy

Yea Ill stick with Dropbox thanks.

  • LaceyJ

“For example, if you are working on a Word doc on the PC, then need to leave the Starbucks, you can simply drag and drop the file onto your phone and make your escape.”

I don’t understand this. Am I leaving my laptop at Starbucks? Am I being hunted? And does this only work with Samsung phones? What if I have an HTC phone but a Samsung laptop — can I get the same functionality? That would be thoughtful, Samsung.

    • michael arazan

      Great for Jason Bourne

  • J Dub

    Ummm….save your files to Dropbox????

    • michael arazan

Already auto sync my nexus media with Drive, available to do it with G+ too

  • Clint O

Need a aokp alternative!!!!! I don’t like being limited by touchwiz and android 4.1.2

  • Andy Christiansen

    seems real cool

Great concept, great product, horrible demo video. :/

  • Silver Veloz

Makes me think of – Google Drive (for shared files) + Lapdock (extension of Motorola Smartphone).

    • Trey Mitchell

too bad moto killed that BRILLIANT idea =/

  • Spencer

You need a samsung PC to use the App…Just need someone to rip the app off of their Samsung PC!

  • ReturnOfTheMack

I feel like this is something Google will end up doing with Chrome and AOSP.

  • Spencer

You need a sumsung pc to use it! so kinda pointless until the app can be ripped from the pc

    • http://twitter.com/nedrudrelytmai Tyler Durden

      Chromebook

      • Geoff Johnson

        It’s running Windows

    • inzandity

Who actually uses a Samsung PC though? Any of their three users want to help us get this off?! :-)
