Video: HTC Sense 5.1 and Android 4.2.2 Leak for the Butterfly

notification toggle shtc

An Android 4.2.2 build that features Sense 5.1 has leaked for the HTC Butterfly. The entire dump is actually available for download if you’d like to start playing around with it. I know I’m curious to see if devs can do anything with it for the HTC One and DROID DNA (brother phone of the Butterfly), though there are no guarantees that that will happen.

In this new build, the Android version is blocked, but you can tell from the secondary notification shade with quick toggles that it’s at least 4.2. In HTC’s version of the toggle panel, we’re seeing a quick setting for brightness along with the standard shortcut for Settings. After that, you have WiFi, Bluetooth, Airplane mode, Power Saver, Auto Rotate, Data, Sound profiles, Hotspot, and Screenshot shortcuts. Other than this panel, it’s tough to tell what other things differ from the current Sense 5.0 and Android 4.1.2. Will we get lock screen widgets? With notifications handle better with one-finger swipes? This is one of those situations where the video below isn’t giving us all of the answers, so we’ll have to see what devs can come up with.

If anything, this should at least mean that a 4.2.2 update with new Sense is on the way to the DNA, though we’d be surprised if that landed before 4.2.2 for the One.

great HTC. i feel HTC is listening to us now and reading our minds

Considering that Verizon has already amazingly released two (albeit minor) updates for the Droid DNA, I think it just may actually get this update sometime around the fall or so. But as we know, when HTC and Verizon promise updates, what they really mean is 5 months later.

It’s interesting how in the reviews of the HTC One, many people complained about Sense 5 and blinkfeed. Now everyone wants it on their device.

    • PhoenixPath

      4.2.2 vs 4.1.2.

HAven’t watched the video yet. Hope to God they give us quick-settings toggles and one-finger notification swiping.

      • George264

When was one-finger notification swiping not a thing on droid dna?

        • PhoenixPath

One-finger swipe-down on a notification should expand it. on Sense 5 (at least on the HTC One), this requires two-fingers…making use of the device one-handed…impossible.

No idea why they did that, it serves no purpose other than making it harder to interact with the “interactive” notifications.

(By default, they should be expanded unless there are several notifications, at which point it should only take one finger to swipe-down and expand)

I am assuming 5.1 will be the same on any HTC device. This assumption, of course, could be totally wrong.

      • Ikr! Im getting the One over summer & hope it will have 4.2.2, 4.3 or whatever w/ the setting & brightness toggle Because I have a Galaxy Phone & thats like customary in my life! Lol

Another sense update, cool. Can’t wait to flash it to my DNA.

  • Tyler Casilio

htc DNA Sense 5.0 4.2 please. Verizon better test it now so I can get it by October

    • Jimneezy

Verizon tests it now and expect a 2015 release

  • Stychill

Is sense 5 much more fluid than sense 4+ ? I’m hoping this comes onto the htc one x+ before i take the plunge and buy it.

    • Franklin Howard

YES!! Sense 5 is a major overhaul of Sense 4+. I had Sense 5 already on my DNA but the One has won me over. I’m in love with this phone. Sorry DNA/Butterfly, but yes Sense 5 is cleaner, less bloated and feels extremely smooth.

      • That’s good to know, the one x+ has 1 GB of ram Sense 5 should cut down on any lag i may experience. I just hope it definitely comes to it.

  • Derek Lockovich

Fantastic news! Just need to wait a couple days. I guarantee we will have this ROM out for the DNA exceptionally soon. Same thing happened with the Sense 5 ROMs.

This is so exciting. Makes me want to keep my DNA.

    • JoshGroff

I wouldn’t get rid of my DNA for anything else out, not much that’s enough of a step up on Verizon to justify it. (i guess that all depends on what one values in a phone)

  • David Dudovitz

Hopefully 2013’s Verizon brings this to the DNA soon and not in 2014 or later. As long as theDNA+ doesn’t come out, there will at least be incentive, but the S4 will likely steal all the thunder.

  • Dr0me

If this comes out for the HTC One before 4.3 pushes to the nexus 4, I think that would be awesome but the clock is ticking…. Wouldn’t be surprised if this is ported to the One within a few days.

  • TechGuy22

wow wtf. thats not gonna come for my HTC ONE. first smh

    • Dr0me

i think it is going to. I guess we will have to wait and see.

    • Franklin Howard

Nope HTC Devs are waiting for Google’s I/O to release the 4.3 update for the HTC One instead. But shhh!!! Dont tell anyone. 🙂

  • PLEASE PLEASE come to the htc one x plus. It’s still a beast of a phone

  • zepfloyd

Seems HTC continues to struggle with the crappy Sense interface and menus vs Android/Holo in various places (like the 2nd tray shade of toggles). Even on the current DNA version, long press a picture in the gallery and surprise, Holo, a screen back, Sense. This is why skins suck hard.

  • Chris Hollenbeck

There’s an HTC Butterfly? Never heard of it. Hopefully better than the HTC ThunderTurd I owned before.
Man I need to get out work today….

    • ceejw

The butterfly is the international version of the Droid DNA.

  • cjohn4043

That’s some good ol’ finger snappin’ music.

  • Dylan Patel

    Music is swave as hell.

  • PLEASE let this get to the DNA.

i mean, it would only make sense right?

    • I see what you did there

      • LOL i didnt even see what i did there til now
