BBQScreen For Rooted Android Phones, Zero Delay Screen Sharing to Your PC

Looking for a righteous screen sharing app? Got yourself a rooted Android device? Then check out BBQScreen on Google Play. With this application, you can have zero lag/delay, real time screen sharing between your device and computer. It is compatible with Windows, Mac, as well as Linux for all you hackers out there.

After downloading the app and the PC client, all you need to do is open both programs and enter in your device’s IP address into the computer. From there, it “just works.” There are multiple settings that control frame rate and image quality, as well as a setting to keep your display on while the app is running.

To screenshare with the best quality, it is recommended that you either connect over WiFi or USB tethering, but you can also view a screen share through Bluetooth tethering. I tested only through WiFi and it worked great for me.

To get started, you will need to download and install the desktop client from here.

Why not just plug in an HDMI cable? Works like a champ on my RAZR (not MAXX, not HD).

  • TJWaterskier

Works very well on the Droid DNA… Lack of landscape support is unfortunate.. hopefully an update will fix that!

  • Ommadawn

Says it’s not even compatible with my Galaxy Note. Hmph.

  • feztheforeigner

Not entirely related but whatever happened to ScreenCast?

    • That’s a screen activity recording app, right? And one that doesn’t work on Galaxy Nexus? 🙁

      • feztheforeigner

        Yup 🙁

        Doesn’t work with several devices…

  • VNC over USB works just as good.

  • Soldier Boy

    thanks marketmilitia

Now make this a full on emulator of being able to manipulate the screen on the phone on the computer.

  • probbiethe1

This app never worked for me. I couldnt even get the app to connect to the desktop program.

Is the name the joke? #aprilfools

  • nhizzat

I wouldn’t buy this because I can’t take an app with that name seriously…

  • Cary Zuber

Does not work well, slow fps when connected on WiFi. Much of the screen is grey when using it for anything worth while. Very cool idea though.

  • I’ve been waiting for something like this. I couldn’t find anything that worked.

  • asdf

hope they make it better come football season. if they allow better video playback, specifically thinking about nfl mobile, then i would pay double for this app.

    • Joey

Does it support audio throughput as well?

  • lye

lol april fools. Works like crap.

  • Does sound go through?
If so, I might have to grab this.

  • Prex

Where can I get the wallpaper?

Tim or anyone, can I get some confirmation as to whether or not this works with the Nexus 4 (and Nexus 7)? I heard about this app the other day and I really could use it, but I’m seeing too many reviews from people with both devices saying it doesn’t work with their device (N4 and N7).

I’d rather not throw away money on something that isn’t going to work on/with my phone. Thanks for any reply.

    • He’s using a Nexus 4 in the above picture.

      • George L

Yeah, but I’d like a little more information. Way too many of the reviews in the Play Store are from people using the Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 and saying it doesn’t work.

        • mgamerz

I’m sure it also depends on your wifi network. If you have a wireless G device on the network it likely will suck cause then you’re stuck at 54Mbps.

          • George L

True. No devices on my network at home though, at all (minus my phone or tablet). Can’t say the same at work, but this would primarily be used at home or at friend’s houses. I just want to get confirmation that this does work with the Nexus 4 and Nexus 7.

One thing I hate about reviews on the Play Store. “It doesn’t work.” If people would leave a bit more information/details we could then determine whether the “it doesn’t work” application really doesn’t work or whether the user needs a “how to use” guide and perhaps a test to determine whether they should even be allowed to touch a smartphone in the first place, much less own one.

Most of the reviews from the N4/N7 crowd consist of “it doesn’t work” and nothing further. Really not helpful at all. And while I usually have no problem ignoring such comments, one too many like that really gives me pause (especially for such an app and for one that’s more than a buck).

Didn’t work for me(N4 or N7, both stock rooted). Followed all the directions, double, triple and quadruple checked the ip address. Tried both over wifi network and via usb tether. Tried on my windows 8 desktop and Ubuntu on my laptop. “No frames received” every time. From sporadic statements by different people, I’m suspecting this works on CM builds and not much else yet…

          • George L

Same here. They also updated the app and the desktop portion too, to address complaints and issues regarding “no frames received”, same thing. Still not working.

            Oh well.

  • Phil Nolan

Hmm I’ve been using TeamViewer and oddly I only notice lag when controlling “metro” stuff like apps and the Start page. Of course TeamViewer is also free.

Edit: Oh I misunderstood. This shares phone screen to PC,not the other way around.

  • Desmund Lighten

OK they are about to make some cash “please take my money”

    • PhoenixPath

Takes 15 minutes just to set it up: Suggestion: Set up your desktop client before buying the app.

Edit: Could not get this to work in under 15 minutes using USB tether. Can’t review much other than the time involved to get it set up initially.

Hopefully someone else has some better results.

      • Thanks for the heads up! “It just works” huh? lol

      • Marc Ross

I “just worked” for me. Had it set up within a minute or two of downloading. My phone and laptop are on the same WiFi, so I figured it would work perfectly.

        • PhoenixPath

I figured it would be easier that way, but the site must be getting hammered or something as it sat there for ages before sending the download.

Could have been a fluke, I suppose.

Regardless, would want to hear from others who have used USB tether on this before trying it again.

          • Marc Ross

I’ll try tethering later. I have zero cell reception right now. Good luck!
