CyanogenMod Shows Off New Streamlined Boot Animation Destined for CM10

If you loaded up any unofficial builds of CM10 on your phone yet, you may have noticed that when it first boots it still has Cid and the CM9 logo plastered on it. The CyanogenMod team is moving towards complete CM10 development and therefore wanted to update the boot animation to reflect this.

The animation is definitely slimmed down and simplified over the CyanogenMod animations that we have seen in earlier versions. Boring for some, but the animation does look more professional and almost ready for primetime. The code is still waiting to be signed off on by the team before being implemented. What do you think?

It would be kind of cool to keep the C64’ish tune in … God I love the sid chip in the C64.

  • RobertLamb256

I like it. Best one yet. So simple and not childish

  • BroRob

    Dial the gate Daniel Jackson

  • I got it installed on my Iconia Tablet. It’s pretty snazy. I like it!

  • NicholasMicallef

No idea what they did but the Cid animation on CM10 on my S II is WAAAY smoother than the one on CM9 (and no it’s not “Project butter” placebo – since the galaxy S II does not enjoy Project Butter jet 🙁 ).
This looks more professional but I kinda like Cid, cause it’s something unique, helps the phone feel even more like my own and everyone who has seen my phone boot has asked what the hell it is…

  • chucklehead322

I think it’s their best one yet!!

  • J Dub

CVCPS in here???? When’s this gonna be in d2vzw nightlies?

  • Ryan Weller

Anyone know what song is playing during the video?

  • rohicks

30 second loops down to 21 seconds.

  • Mason Lammers

I would put up with anything to not hear that music involved with the video again. . . (MUTE) Like I was playing an ATARI!

    • “like i was playing an atari” thats kind of the point of chiptune

  • Jeremy Martin

Nice i think! Cant wait! 🙂

  • Love it.
Also love the video. Need to steal the effect they did with the text…and the chiptune.

  • Chris Wilkey

Yeah, this is cleaner for sure…kinda miss the old skateboard guy because he was basically a modified android logo and there are ties there….cid was a misstep to me…weird choice

    • I never understood why he was on a skateboard, so i hated him for that.

  • Michael Collins

Love it! Hurry up and release cm10 🙂

  • Executor 32

It doesn’t seem to like my GNex, at least when put in data/local; when the boot animation should appear, it just hangs with a black screen and never finishes booting. Luckily TWRP has a built-in file manager, so I easily deleted it and it’s booting now. Hopefully, this animation will work when I try putting it in system/media, because I hate the Cid boot animation.

    • Executor

Nope, but I ended up fixing it anyway by repacking the zip with no compression. Oddly, it worked fine on my Touchpad with no modification.

  • DanWazz

Better than CM9, but still kinda boring.

  • hackthis02

I like it. It’s really nice because it’s backwards compatible. I can run it on my CM7 phone.

  • Make it a livewallpaper too!

  • Diablo81588

Lame. Thought the cm9 animation was sick..

  • Gimp_Ninja

I look forward to seeing this on my SGS3 in the near future.

  • Keii Graham

    I like it, but it’s missing something…

    • JoshGroff

      A unicorn.

  • boybert

Wow, it’s great! Very sharp and clean. No more embarrassing “what is that crap on your phone?!” bootups for me!

  • Rob Becker

Thank you. Soo much more professional.

  • zepfloyd

    Love it! +1 CM Team.

  • I think i need a download link 🙁

  • That’s sexy…

  • jgabler5025

The reviewers on the change log don’t seem too happy with it.

    • boybert

I only see one person who doesn’t care for the animation. The rest are just reporting technical issues with it.

  • New_Guy

Looks like it’s actually made for adults. I like it

  • tiptoptommy

I like it its very clean

  • Simple. I like it!

  • Looks much better, not a big fan of sid personally, and ridiculous animations are kind of grating for me now a-days.

  • desiman26

    Simple and elegant. Very nice.

  • htowngtr

  • It looks pretty good. Does it come with that soundtrack we heard in the video.

    • gokusimpson

      That would be FANTASTIC!

    • If it does, I would hope they allow you turn it off. Nothing is worse in a boot animation than sound.

      • JoshGroff

I liked the Thunderbolt’s thunder boot sound (still do.) Although, an option to turn the sound on with off being the default would probably be ideal.

    • dezignstuff

If you didn’t hear it in stereo you’re really missing out. I played it again just to hear the music. turn it UP!

  • I like it, but nothing is as beautiful and elegant as the stock Jelly Bean boot animation on the Gnex.

    • Diablo81588

Really? That’s the most boring boot animation ever.. Go beat off to your gnex somewhere else.

      • JoshGroff

This, the T-bolt has a better stock boot animation.

      • If you think that’s boring, you’ll really like this one. I usually turn off the boot animation entirely. It decreases the boot up time by 5 seconds and I don’t have to look at a useless animation of any kind.

    • I love it but its also very plain. The stock boot animation is pretty amazing too. Its hard to decide between them. Sad i couldn’t get Rom Toolbox’s randomizer working then i could have both.

  • Detonation

    “No 30 Second Loops”
So instead it is just a 1 second loop…

    • Less frames = faster loading!

      • Alan Paone

Maybe it’ll run smoothly on the Gnex this time

    • Stinker

      How observant.

  • Hothfox

I like it. It’s simple and clean, but still differentiates the ROM from others.

  • Good. This is much better than the stupid mascot.

  • chaosrv

No Mascots? Does that mean Cid has become the new Clippy?
