LG Optimus Vu for Verizon Pictured in the Wild

Oh, Verizon. Is the LG Optimus Vu really the answer? Apparently so, as the phone with their branding all over it has been pictured in the wild. It doesn’t appear to have changed in the slightest since we took a look at it during CTIA. The device still rocks a 5″ display with 4:3 ratio, a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 S3 processor, 4G LTE, 2080mAh battery, 8MP rear camera, and is only 8.5mm thick. When we first got our hands on it, it was still running Gingerbread, however, the device pictured above is running Ice Cream Sandwich and will likely ship with it.

So when can we see this disaster of a phone? It certainly seems like it should be soon. After all, we saw the Vu cruise through the FCC back at the end of June. We have no idea what this will retail for, but doubt that it will be cheap. Is this Verizon’s big ass phone option instead of the Galaxy Note? Unfortunately, it may be.

The only thing I would buy this for is a coaster so that my table doesn’t get marks on it.

  • Zacharypt

Serious question: If people here love to hate on Verizon so much, why do you keep it as your carrier? Why not go to Sprint, T-Mo, AT&T, etc?

  • TheWatcher

hey trolls the 4:3 aspect ratio is because it is being targeted as a tablet first with a phone. Nobody complains about the 4:3 aspect ratio in the ipad…”oh well that’s apple so its ok” You people crack me up, a real bunch of KnowItAlls!

    • droidman101

The iPad also has the biggest goddamn bezel the world has ever seen so it doesn’t really matter.

  • was this done on purpose to try to sour people to the idea of Phablets? The galaxy note is a beautiful perfect phone and verizon and samsung have their heads up their asses. People want the note, not this piece of crap. This has to be on purpose. they will release this piece of garbage and when no one buys it they will say, “SEE!!! nobody wants to buy phablets! we were right in not carrying the galaxy note/journal”

  • ChrisTraeger1

    LG lol

  • Lambo_21

that is one ugly ass phone

  • And coming around the second corner now, it’s the Galaxy Nexus and the Galaxy S III! They’re neck and neck! Oh, and what’s this? Here comes THE UGLIEST PHONE YOU’VE EVER SEEN!

  • yarrellray

This is great for Verizon…Lg sucks MAJOR EGGS…At least TMOBILE was smart enough to get the GALAXY NOTE with ICS something that looks legitimate not that clumbsy junk Lg is trying to peddle off to Verizon customers. I tell Verizon is becoming more nad more the BIGGEST JOKE in carrier land.

  • JazzoRenee

That thing is ginormous! I mean the Note freaked me out this just…..You might as well get the tab or pad.

Or wait for the Note 2.

  • HueThree

There is no digitizer in the screen which doesn’t allow you to use a precise stylist like the Note does. Instead it is like using the stylist in the 99¢ bin from staples. I hope the 2 people that buy this phone know that.

  • In my dream world, Verizon gets the rumored Note 2. Soon.

  • droidify

thats funny. I laughed all the way through the article.

  • That is absolutely disgusting. So ugly.

  • hkklife

This has the makings to be the biggest turd on VZW since, oh, the Pre 2 or the Samsung Continuum. The ONLY thing that would say this device would be some kind of super-duper special data plan (4Gb for $20/month or some such) and pushing it as a mini-tablet instead of a phone. And people wonder why the ONLY things selling well for VZW are the iPhone, RAZR MAXX and GSIII!

I’d take the original Note over this one any day. What happened to that 5″ HTC Phablet that was supposedly coming to VZW? And WHY does VZW keep releasing one LG stinker after another? Just when this thing hits the clearance bins around October or Nov the Note 2 will be hitting all the other carriers and reminding us of its awesomeness.

    • JazzoRenee

I guess someone has to give LG a chance lolol

  • achaff86

I wouldn’t buy it, I’m happy with my galaxy s3!

  • UrDoGG

Dammit Verizon. They are pretty much a joke of a company. The only thing they have got going for them is the fact that they have decent coverage, but that’s it. They fail at everything else.

  • PyroHoltz

    This phone scares me…

  • panicswhenubered

    More like Verizon LG F.u.

  • Ryan Powell

Verizon bloatware takes on a physical form.

  • Matt Gondek

4:3 ratio, really? Does it come with a VHS tutorial?

    • Alleycat

      No. BetaMax tutorial

  • pj

Are you serious Verizon? I’m definitely your target market for big phones, but this is stupid! Just seeing something like this makes wonder who the hell is running that show? Get real!

  • So first Verizon stabs me in the heart by not deciding to get the Note and they do it once again by getting this instead? I almost want them to take away my unlimited data just so I can leave them once and for all.

  • No!!!!! I want the Note N.O.T.E. This VU is not even close? Phone strategist at Verizon needs to be canned.

  • gadgetryan

Ugly!! why does it look like a big square of crap!! At least round the edges or something!!

  • RoadsterHD1

    That’s horrible.

  • Q

    LG lost.

  • They went with this OVER the Galaxy Note?? Seriously?? They’re on crack. First the shared data plans, waiting on the Note, and now getting THIS?? Wth.

  • FortitudineVincimus

I smell a discrimination lawsuit as no way anyone with 1 arm/hand can use that thing.

  • fauxshizzl

Taking a row in the Failboat I see. This will fit in nicely with that dual screen disaster they tried to put on Sprint.

    • Michael Schnider

My dad had that phone while we were on Sprint. Thing was horrible.

    • That dual screen disaster wasn’t an LG, it was made by Kyocera. Nice try though 🙂

  • zorak19620

I’m guessing Verizon decided to go with LG for a phablet since the modding community isn’t that big with LG phones. Also, aspect ratio fail. I love how verizon skips out on great phones and brings in horrible ones.

  • S3? gay…. not that anyone will buy it. but still. not cool

  • Butters619

    4:3 fail

  • SirSoloDolo

I had the LG Ally as my FIRST ever smartphone from coming from the LG enVy Touch. It was a great introduction phone and it even had a small ROM Community to push me into Rooting and enjoying the phone to its real potential. After that went to DINC then GNEX. Rest is history

    • gokusimpson

Yes, but the Ally wasn’t a giant square.

    • By would anyone pick an Ally over a DROID?! Incorrect phone.

  • No.

  • Michael Forte

And people thought the RAZR was too wide. Good luck holding this one. It’s so ugly, what were Verizon and LG thinking?

  • Michael Schnider

  • satsmine2k4

An ugly device made ugliest by carrier branding. Verizon beat AT&T by having the ugliest device tag previously held by the lg nitro hd…

  • VZWIndirect

Did April Fools Day come a little late this year?

  • SirSoloDolo

    Kill it with fire!!!!!

  • Liderc

    Just..not a good idea.

  • Beka27

  • Radyoactive

    That thing is pretty ugly!

  • Zachary F

Yeah lets pick this huge square ugly phablet over the beautiful Note. It shouldn’t be running GB since the other screenshots show it running ICS.

  • Terrence Adams

It doesn’t look all that bad…. but it still LG.. The Kia of mobile phones

    • KnowYourEnemy462

Oh, c’mon! I love my Forte. My old LG enV Touch on the other hand…

      • Terrence Adams

LG needs to prove themselves a bit more but I would start with something more traditional than this.

    • Kia has come a long way in the automotive world. So your statement doesn’t make a whole lot of sense if you’re trying to insult LG with the Optimus Vu. You’re saying it was once an underdog but now one of the best value for the money out there with great manufacturer backing? sheesh.

  • Anyone who buys this mess deserves their suffering.

  • i thought the thumbnail on the youtube video was distorted…nope, square phone

  • should call it an LG Tablet

    • droidman101

      The laglet.

  • Immolate

What a gawd awful train-wreck of a phone. How can they make it so effin’ big and only add 0.2″ on the S3? Looks like it was designed by ninth graders.

    • Sremex

It is a 4:3 ratio screen. That means the screen is actually a lot bigger in terms of area. It

      • gokusimpson

Most videos are in widescreen now… wouldn’t this 4:3 screen leave you with a lot of letterboxing?

  • Michael_NM

    VU: Verizon Ugliest

  • mcblue

No! I want that bad HTC bitch I’ve been hearing about.

  • Gimp_Ninja

I’m curious: what’s the screen resolution on this beast? 1280×960?

  • Its a beautiful phone for a visually impaired person.

    • Immolate

Only a visually impaired person could think it was beautiful.

  • theentropic

LG Optimus Vomit is more like it.

  • ddevito

    LG. Life is GIANT

  • FarmerTechno

    what’s next, a CRT screen?

    • Immolate

      Projection screen… LG Beam!

  • Bill Stebbins

4:3? Wow. Good luck holding that one

    • Immolate

It makes my hand hurt just looking at it.

    • kretz7

      How small are your hands?

      • Immolate

I have sasquatch hands, but they hurt whenever I look at 4:3 phones.

      • Bill Stebbins

I’m 6′ 3″ and had no trouble holding my Note, but this thing looks like it’s another inch wider
