Here is the Nexus Q

And there is the Nexus Q which looks like some sort of swanky media ball. This should be interesting to see.

Cheers Ryan!

  • akazerotime

Why does this look like the sentinels from the matrix?

  • Benjamin

I like the fact that he said its hackable. Can’t wait until developers get apps like Spotify, Subsonic, or Plex to work with it.

  • It would be nice if this could integrate with an already established set of AirPort Expresses…

  • Bionicman

yea $299 come on. would like to have it but probably not getting it. tooooooo much

  • vawwyakr

$300 is too much unless it does something really amazing. I am not even sure what it does, is it a Google TV? The video on the site just talks about music playing and anyone on my wifi being able to change the play list. Neat sure but not sure I’d use it….maybe some bar could do something with that….

  • It’s Marvin! We can all own our own Marvins now!

  • JDHokie

With your $300 Nexus Q, you can get $49 audio cables and $400 bookshelf speakers. Stream from your 16GB Nexus 7 and you’re $1K in.

  • For $299 this is a joke.

I’ll keep my Roku, Apple TV, or other reasonably priced device.

  • Scott Willenborg

    I’ll take 2 please, in a D cup.

  • ddevito

was hoping this would involve [email protected] – but I guess not. A cool device, but frankly I would’ve thought a Google TV, Android phone or tablet would do the same thing.

Google appears to want to be Apple. Not a good sign.

  • BAoxymoron
  • Apostrafee

    I wish I had a use for this :/

  • nightscout13

$300 is too much…… Roku is what, $60?

  • the only way i am going to consider this is if i can hook my tablet or phone up to it somehow and have the phone/tablet screen show up on my big screen. i dont want to be locked into just those few apps, i would like a web page on the screen, my google music, MX player for local movies, my gallery ect. this is a cool looking device, but if it can only stream from google movies/music and youtube it just isn’t worth it. i can plug my phone in as it sits and it works just fine.

and if the play store link below is the actual price it is going to be listed as ($300)….forget it

  • FreshDogg

Here is the video for it that Engadget dug up!!! Enoy!!!

    • Daniel Maginnis

also on the page linked in the article

  • More info from the official Google Play Store product page –

  • Jason Huff

Why isn’t this a Google TV Nexus device? I would buy it in a heartbeat.

  • Matt Gondek

That’s the most technologically advanced PokeBall I’ve ever seen!

    • David

Had to upvote for that. 😛

edit; o_0 at the down votes.

    • feztheforeigner

I think Google just one-upped the Masterball!

Well, if anyone could do it I’m glad it was Google…

  • John

Looks cool but I just connect my GNex to mt HT using MHL->HDMI and play stuff that way.. I also stream media from my pc to my android devices (and then to my HT if I choose) using a potato server which works flawlessly

  • jimmyeuniss

I don’t know what it does, but I want one!

  • David

I feel like it’s watching me.

  • its designed to avoid patents woes! its kinda creepy too!

  • AnotherAndroidKid

That would be awesome as a DVR/Media server

ETA, i see from another post it is supposed to be a media player. Very nice.

  • Reminds me of

    • Exactly what I was thinking! Except since it’s black it’s Marvin’s evil twin! 😉

    • Here I am, brain the size of a planet, and they ask me to stream movies. Life! Don’t talk to me about life!

  • MooseCat

Oh, I see what they’re doing. It looks like you buy a movie/tv/music from your phone/tablet/pc and then with the Nexus Q you stream it through your home theater system. Cool.

    • You can do that with an Apple TV for only $99.

  • beng8686

Google is losing points in my book… nexus 7 tab big disappointment along with this retarded looking device. If I wanted cheap a$$ $h1t I would buy acer.

    • Brennen Sibby

Neither has even been officially announced and you already hate it! Lame sauce, dude.

      • beng8686

Just saying from the pics of the tab they are making windows tab and iPad look that much more appealing. It just looks cheap.

        • Jigga_Z

That’s because it is supposed to be cheap. $199 instead of $500+ dollars. Apples and Oranges (no pun intended)

  • Ryan Powell
    • droidman101

      Expensive enough?
PS: nice job finding it btw.

    • Damn it Google, that’s Apple pricing. Disappointing 🙁

      • I agree. $300 makes it an easy pass, + $49 for speaker cables. Might as well slap a fruit sticker on it.

        • epps720

$300…I give it 6 months tops before it’s yanked off the shelves. But it does look cool.

    • DeWitt

Apple? The Apple TV is only $99!

  • Good_Ole_Pinocchio
    • Sven Enterlein

Exactly my thought! It looks like the Matrix sentinels

  • maxkobi

dude this thing looks sick… here goes this weeks paycheck!!!

  • I want that thing! whatever it is!

  • max

It should be what we saw last year. a home entertainment device that you connect to speakers throughout your house and can control the music from your android tv, tablet or phone. the one they displayed was a cube. And i think a ball, where simply tapping a cd to it would rip the CD. Real cool stuff. I saw a video of it yesterday on another site

  • like on death to smoochy. Its a, Its a , Its a rocket ship.

  • Hurry, someone tell Morpheus to fire the EMP!

  • UltraTram

$100 DLNA streaming or no go

    • UltraTram

  • Mike Ampaabeng

    Looks futuristic, I like.

  • ace

I think I used that thing last week in my racquetball match.

  • Assman sam

  • android @ home?

  • Richard Jackson

Swanky so far. Can’t wait to see what she will do.

  • Gerret Walczak

    Haha, real funny. Wait.. seriously?

  • dschneider

I feel like I should deploy an EMP to keep it away from the Nebuchadnezzar. Morpheus, no!

That said, I like the design. Will be interested to see what exactly it does.

    • Sp4rxx

nice reference … took me a minute to launch my ‘way-back’ machine! lol

  • Justin Ogden
  • manderko

Turn off the power on the Nebuchadnezzar quick!

    • sc0rch3d

while you have been +1’ed, my first thot was Hitchhiker’s Guide 🙂

      • michael arazan

I was thinking HGTTG too, and Phantasm where the balls glide around with the saws in them

    • RedPandaAlex

It spotted us! Hit the EMP!

  • Colin Lewis

    um…. what is it?

    • droidman101

From all the cables, this could run android and display it on a screen. Or it could be a nexus Google TV.

  • cant stop clicking refresh!!!!!

  • Dan

  • RedPandaAlex

  • FortitudineVincimus

    wireless stereo speakers?

  • Sqube

    Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?

Is it a projector? Please let it be a projector. That would be absurdly awesome. I just want a whole world of insane Nexus products.

    • Pretty sure they said it’s an Android media player (basically, today’s version of a CD player or MP3 player,) but you received an upvote for the first line of your comment.

    • tyguy829

its like an apple tv. will connect to play store and stream media from your devices (like the nexus7) to your tv

  • Jeff Tycz

I am going to be broke by the end of the day 🙁

  • RadicalPie

    hmmm… I want

  • Sp4rxx
