Verizon Extends Holiday Return Policy Even Further, Test Drive Your RAZR or Rezound Until January 15

Last week, a handful of readers pointed out a significant change in Verizon’s return policy. Normally just 14 days long, Big Red had temporarily extended the amount of time you have to return a phone during the holidays to almost a month. If you purchase a phone between November 15 and Deecember 28, you initially had up until January 9 to test drive it. It looks now like that deadline has been extended as well. According to that same return policy, you now have until January 15.

Via:  Verizon

Cheers Greg W!

  • So glad I can hold onto my RAZR until the Nexus FINALLY arrives.

  • nexusfan

I called VS cs about this and was told the exchange policy was extended for the holiday season but they still go by the 14 days from activation not the date of sale. Still holding out for the nexus : (

This is a good show of faith for Verizon to give to its customers. Even though they are shady at times, at least they are giving some sort of deal. Hell I look at the other 2 major carriers and they’re doing same old crap. What would make me want to sign up as a new customer?

  • I went to the verizon store around the 18th and asked about this. they said they never had heard about it but would check into it and call me back the next business day, even after they looked at verizon’s return policy on the website. never heard from them, but it didnt matter because i called verizon’s customer support and verified the updated return policy, then went to another store the next day and bought a Rezound.

I bought the Rezound because it is more clear (higher pixel density) than the razr. I’m still waiting to see the nexus in person, but from what i’ve been reading, the pixel density will still be higher on the rezound, not to mention im getting really comfortable with it. its a great phone. sense does not lag up the phone and looks great.

    Where is the Galaxy Nexus???
What day is it coming out?
You guys are going to drop the ball on this one.
The HTC Rezound is a flop! The Razr is also going to flop.
    Release the phone already..
How is it that an American company can create a great product and another American company is in charge to distribute it and they screw it all up.
    Release it already!!!
    The people 99% have spoke!
P.S. I have been waiting since February to use my upgrade for you to offer a decent phone

  • Chris122379

So if I buy a rezound for $299 with a 2 year agreement, I can return it by the 15th and then pick up the nexus for $299 with a 2 year agreement. The only catch is I pay $35?

  • Anonymous

Went to store and got me a Razr. My OG was not keeping up and I needed a new phone. So far, I love the phone though I am not sure the battery life is good enough. I plan to look into the GN when it comes out and decide then which one to go with.

  • Andrew Akker

January 9th was actually a typo. I called a rep the day this was found (when the website said January 9th) and he told me January 15th.

  • Atabizi

Stay strong and hold out for the Nexus.  By pushing the release date back Verizon has figured out a way to get you to pay $335 for a phone.    Be patient and don’t let them win.   I want the phone as bad as anyone else but I refuse to let Verizon play me for a sucker..

  • A.M.

Do you have to return the same exact phone? Can you buy a RAZR new, sell it, and then buy a used one on Jan 14 and return it? Arbitrage opportunity!

Not that I’d do it, but fun to think about.

  • Maggie DiMarco‎‎

@google-ce1ef2a4eba87919a40617a2ca360704:disqus Need to figure … my neighbor’s sister-in-law makes $84 every hour on the laptop. She has been without a job for 7 months but last month her income was $8845 just working on the laptop for a few hours. Here’s the site http://ufil.ms/U4CWP

  • I’m thinking about test driving the Razr untill the Nexus comes out next month. And if that sweet galaxy justice  doesn’t come out until after January 15th then I’ll have to put on my big boy pants and deal with it.

  • hippo

This is great for me… My wife refuses to consider anything but an iphone.  With a cheap two month trial period, I can get her to try a razr or rezound and I’m sure once she gets used to android, 4G, and a large screen, she’ll be hooked.

  • Nobody

what if I bought a phone via amazon wireless?

    • Harish

Good question – might be hard to get a correct answer. I’ll be calling amazon sometime soon.

  • Derp

wish i could return my bionic..

  • Tyson Crosby

Need to figure out if thats until January 15th with an ACTIVATED device or until January 15th with just a purchased non activated device

    • bigrob60

I believe you can’t leave a VZW store without activating a device.

    • I went to Verizon a few days ago to ask about that. Unfortunately he told me it would be for a non-activated device, crushing my hopes of getting my hands on the G Nexus

      • Andrew Akker

This is bullshit. I bought the Rezound on the 18th, activated and all, and my receipt says Return Date: Jan 15th, 2012.

  • Dcvolcom

Sounds like a clever way to get customers that are holding off for the G-Nex to contribute to their fourth quarter sales if they can’t get the bugs worked out by the end of the year lol

  • So the Galaxy Nexus will be dropping January 16th, right?

    • Anonymous

Exactly what I thought too haha!

  • Jeff

Seems like Verizon will do almost anything to get people to buy now and not wait for the Nexus…..

  • Anonymous

Baiting you to buy thinking you will return for nexus. But probably won’t release till after that.

    • Anonymous

Then they technically will have lied since they said by the end of the year….. They do this every year it isn’t because of the nexus they did the same thing last year.

      • Anonymous

        They lie every year too.

        Just saying.

        • Anonymous

What do they lie about? The so called rumors that sites like these create to generate hits and you being gullible enough to believe them??

          • Anonymous

I was making a joke but if you want specifics, Bionic being release Q211, Bionic update coming early Nov, saying there is no way to add unlimited data anymore, those are just a few off the top of my head.

Like I said though I was just making a joke.

          • Anonymous

Verizon can’t help moto could not get the bionic out and verizon never specifically came out and said when the update would come that was from moto. Plus you can’t add unlimited data back that isn’t a lie.

          • Anonymous

Verizon sales and CS reps were saying early November. Our sales rep said he got word from corporate that it would be early Nov. They work for and represent Verizon, they gave out incorrect info, ergo Verizon lied.

You can still add unlimited data once you lost it and you can add it to a new activation. They just did it for our work account on 2 new RAZR activation’s. Verizon says it’s impossible to add it. What they should have said is that it is impossible to add it to an account that doesn’t spend a few grand with them a month.

  • Anonymous

They REALLY want you to try that Rezound and Razr out…

  • Chrisriner84

Good for you verizon. For some reason I feel like they aren’t doing this to delay the nexus release anymore. Although I’m sure people will assume the opposite. At least now its gonna be til after ces

  • Anonymous

Looks like I’m stopping by Verizon today… the news of the Nexus being delayed is making me go grab one.. until the Nexus gets announced…

    • Bewara2009

and don;t forget to say before you leave that u r mad!

      • TROLOLOL

And tell them you’ll be back to pick up the Nexus and return the phone you are getting!!!

  • Jesus

Are they trying to increase their sales numbers for the holidays so they can make a fancy press release about it? Of course, without mentioning the rate of returns when the Nexus comes out. Though I’m probably one of the few who actually isn’t getting a Nexus.

that’s the same as what i said down below. >:O

    • Anonymous

They do this every year during the holidays because of the holidays and different shipping schedules/delays that can happen

      • That, and someone might have less reservations about buying a phone as a gift knowing that the recipient has time to return it.

        • Anonymous

Exactly, everyone thinks this has something to do with the nexus and most likely it does not. It isn’t like this is the first time verizon has done this.

  • Iggbastic

This is the reason I have my razr!

  • Anonymous

Extend the return policy so people still by a Verizon phone while waiting for the Gnex. This is code for “The Gnex still ain’t ready”..

  • viewthis74

so i can walk into Verizon today, buy the RAZR then return it (for a $35 restock fee) and get the G-Nex as long as it comes out before Janurary 15th?

The new rumor is that the Galaxy Nexus is pushed back to January 16th, to prevent this type of behavior.

    • Yup but the way they are going the GNex release date is going to be January 16th. You could still return it. and wait a few days and go back to an older phone until the GNex comes out.

    • Anonymous

Yup, I’m currently ‘renting’ a RAZR. Besides the battery life, I LOVE the phone

      • viewthis74

nice! ok well maybe i will give it a shot. i have the Tbol now. i’m assuming the battery life is about the same as the RAZR?

  • Anonymous

You’re about a week late on this one…

  • GotSka81

What dubious motivation could they possibly have to do that?

  • Anonymous

I hope that doesn’t mean more Galaxy Nexus delays.

    • Bewara2009

      they will be bro!

  • Anonymous

By the way I am enjoying my Razr until the Nexus is released.

    • Bewara2009

      you happy with that bro?

      • Anonymous

        yeah *BRO*

        • Bewara2009

Good thing your not mad bro!

The new release date is January 16, sorry bud.

      • Anonymous

then he could simply return the phone for a refund, go back to his old phone, and wait for the nexus…

  • Anonymous

Jan 16th is the Nexus release date

    • God I hope not… but that is totally Verizon’s style.

  • Sam Holton

    Very tempting

    • Bewara2009

      its tempting to you bro?

  • hatethanet

Confirmed: Galaxy Nexus release date will be on January 16, 2012. 😉

  • Anonymous

So does this mean that the next rumored release date of the Nexus is January 16, 2012?

    • Bewara2009

if it is, will u be mad bro?

I hope the Galaxy Nexus is released on December 29th, to screw all those taking advantage of the system by “BORROWING” a RAZR or REZOUND.

    • Anonymous

If the Galaxy Nexus is released on the 29th, and I bought a Razr or Rezound before then, I can still return that phone and get the Nexus. I really hope it’s not released on the 29th though.

      • TROLOLOL

        Sorry I mean January 16th!!!

        • Evan Knofsky

Then I could just return my RAZR the 15th and activate my OG droid for a day? Wouldn’t be that hard.

    • Joshnichols189

You are really bitter about this aren’t you?

  • Murphy

So the Gnex will drop on Dec 28?

January 16th, to prevent scumbags from borrowing phones.

      • Anonymous

The thing is the only people who would take advantage of it are those who want the nexus anyway. Most normal consumers will not return a phone and will be plenty happy with the rezound or razr. You have to take into account the 1% on here is a very small number compared to the millions of customers verizon has.

Either a dumb move or smart move by Verizon. Dumb move if everyone and their mom is going to end up getting a Galaxy Nexus when it is finally released and BORROWING a Razr or Rezound until then, putting the burden on their employees with handling all the returns. Or, smart move to their investors by telling them “LOOK AT ALL THESE ANDROID PHONES WE SOLD THIS HOLIDAY SEASON” by double-dipping on the “sales” of Razrs and Rezounds that are returned later.

also, I guess this would be how they would stock up on their “refurbished” units.

    • EmoMorales

What don’t you get about ‘this happens every year during the holidays’? They do this so customers can gift phones without freaking out about the 14 day limit for the recipient of the has to potentially return the phone. Jesus people, enough with the conspiracy theories!

And, yes, I am mad bro!

  • Arda Akman

Watch the Nexus come out that week after the time is up for returning the RAZR

      love it. scumbags borrowers…

      • GotSka81

        umad brah?

  • Anonymous

Now that I think about it, when I picked up the Razr on 11/15 my receipt said I had until Jan. 15th … which happens to be my birthday 😛

Turns out I didn’t need the extended return policy – only lasted 6 days on the Razr :-S

    • Anonymous

I bought my Rezound on the 14th hoping for the Nexus within 2 weeks. 8(

Now I gotta return it and buy it again

  • GNex

This is all kinds of win! Guess I’ll get the razr today and gnex…soon. I’ll pay 35 bucks to lease a razrfor a few weeks in leiu of this tbolt!

  • Jjj

probably a phone coming out on the 15th, and their giving ppl the chance to get it.

    • Anonymous

It better not be the Galaxy Nexus.

  • Anonymous

Here’s the plan: Everyone that wants to get the Galaxy Nexus goes to Verizon now and buys a Rezound, Razr, or whatever else Verizon needs to sell before they launch the Nexus. As soon as the Galaxy Nexus is released, everyone returns whatever phone they bought and buys it.

that’s verizon’s idea… tell their investors they sold all these android phones this holiday season, without mentioning the returns. that’s like double dipping! woowhoo

  • Anthony Etter

This infuriates me. Verizon is a piece of garbage wireless provider. That’s why i admire them at the same time. They continuously screw customers over but they continue to stick with Verizon.

so you’re mad that verizon is a pos provider but you admire them because you’re getting screwed? ok…

      • Anonymous

he likes when they Sandusky him=P

      • Go Go

I agree with Anthony.  It is pretty amazing that they are able to charge the prices they do for phones and service, provide the lack luster customer service that they do and string people along with things such as thins but still keep all of their customers along with gaining new customers all the time.  I don’t admire the company, I admire the ability.

  • Anonymous

And the new Galaxy release date is….December 29th. Still within this year, and just out of reach of the full experience of the exchange program.

    • Anonymous

uum can you not read? Clearly you can return until Jan 15 which is after dec 29….

  • Dan

Now the question is razr or rezound?

    • Bewara2009

      u have a question bro?
