HTC Thunderbolt Gingerbread Leaks Continue, New 2.10.605.1 RUU Available

I was about to say, “We must be getting close!  Look at all of these leaks!”  But I think we can all admit that that would be foolish knowing the rough ride that the HTC Thunderbolt has had since its release almost 5 months ago.  This is a pretty good sign though that we are getting somewhat close.  We had previously just seen a “test build” of Android 2.3, but to see two semi-official builds leak this week, you should smile a little heading into the weekend.

This is a full RUU and will wipe and unroot your phone should you use.  If you want root, wait a few hours until a dev can package it up.

Cheers Bizzy and everyone else!

okay gave this one a try.  It smooth and seemed to work really well except, my cam and gtalk failed.  nice interface and lots of subtle features I liked.  Even basic headphones could be used like with the droid.  Sadly I need the cam to work, so I went back to froyo.  The look on my face when Rom Manager back up epically failed (multiple restore dates) to restore must have been interesting.  Don’t know why it would not restore, maybe linked to GB maybe not.  So my first complete phone rebuild in a while…that sucked.  The next GB release I will ask lots of questions but if those two  points are fixed..I am onboard.  Oh GPS still was off by 2000′.

    • Michael Brooks

hold on for the HTC vigor. its gonna crap on the bionic…… just sayin.

      • Nanana

        Doubt it

    • TBolt User

I am dying with the weak battery life, it sounds like rooting it and upgrading would be beneficial

    • Mike Skierski

what are you using to make your battery life triple?

  • Havoc

Wish i had the Gnads to try this, but not sure of all the different ways to root and rom, afraid i would be looking at an expensive brick

    • Anonymous

It’s definitely not as hard as you fear! Until recently it was a bit involved but definitely doable if you take the time to read the directions ahead of time. It’s even easier now with the new UnrEvoked method! I haven’t used it for my Tbolt, but it was super easy when I had a DInc.

Whichever way you choose to do it, don’t worry! Feel free to PM me if you need more info. Rooting your Tbolt is worth it!

      • Havoc

Steve, I looked on the UnrEvoked site and didnt see a one click for the Tbolt.

        • Anonymous

Here’s a link for the site you need to visit: http://revolutionary.io/ , and here’s a link to the DL post about it: http://www.droid-life.com/2011/08/15/droid-incredible2-running-gingerbread-and-thunderbolt-receive-s-off-thanks-to-unrevoked/ . Their site says that it’s still intended for developers, but you should be okay anyway.

If you’d prefer to stick to something that’s a little bit lengthy (like maybe 30 – 45 minutes) but definitely works, there’s a “1-click” method that uses a little bit of ADB but isn’t too difficult. I was a little bit nervous of it myself before I did it, but after reading the instructions a few times and watching a YouTube video about it I got up the courage to try it. It actually wasn’t any big deal like I originally thought it would be. There are several places where you can find this information, but here’s a link to the Android Central forum where I did a good bit of research and got the links for downloading the necessary files: http://forums.androidcentral.com/thunderbolt-rooting-roms-hacks/77617-auto-root-unroot-windows-updated-5-20-w-mr1-update.html . Also, here’s a link to a YouTube video about using this method: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g8GCeUYz-UM .

I know that’s a lot of information, but don’t let it overwhelm you! Take the time to read through the information a couple of times, maybe watch the video, and then give it a try. If you choose to use the UnrEvoked method let me know how it goes. If you go the ADB method, I know you’ll be fine!

Also, I know this whole thread got started because of wanting to flash the new stock GB RUU from this post, but if you’d like to do a little bit of ROMing (also pretty easy!!), I highly recommend trying out Das BAMF. It’s great on the Thunderbolt if you like HTC Sense! It has a lot of the upgrades from Sense 3.0.

Good luck and have fun with this! You’ll love your Tbolt even more once it’s been rooted!!

  • Triple7vens

Well i am stuck and no one will help ! i have a non rooted thunderbolt .. I needed to know how to install this or have someone post a zip file .

    can someone help please

    • Anonymous

Well, if you want to stay non-rooted you’ll just need to be a little patient and let the dev’s do their thing. No doubt they’ll have a non-rooted .zip ready soon. Alternatively, you could root through a variety of methods, (including the new UnrEvoked 1-click method), and load up the ruu now. It’s up to you, but enjoy whichever way you decide to go!

      Happy weekend!

      • Triple7vens

Thanks I hope one drops tonight:-)

  • Aarons480

Step by step instuctions how to install this for non root?

    • Triple7vens

      Yes non root please

    • Triple7vens

      can you help?

  • Triple7vens

how do i install this update ? its not zipped

  • Bostonsfavson

So I install this, would I still get the official GB update when it arrives in mid-2013?

  • Matthewpsingley

Can you use Rom manager to install this as well as revert back?

    • You can’t use ROM Manager to install this. This is an .exe file and will remove all data, and revert your phone to factory settings.

I’m sure a few developers will put out a .ZIP file, and rooted/unrooted variations which you should be able to install with ROM Manager.

      • Triple7vens

can someone post a non root zip file please

Anyone having any issues ( that they can tell) from this. I am not sure if I should hold off.

  • I together with my pals happened to be reading the best items from your site then unexpectedly came up with an awful feeling I had not expressed respect to the site owner for those tips. Most of the people were absolutely excited to see all of them and have without a doubt been taking pleasure in them. Appreciate your simply being very accommodating and for considering variety of cool things most people are really eager to be informed on. Our own honest apologies for not expressing appreciation to you sooner.

Is it easier to root gingerbread or froyo on the Thunderbolt?

    • Roms? or a phone with non root access and stock gingerbread?

      • Anonymous

Stock. I am thinking about rooting, but I have a mac. Is stock gingerbread or stock froyo easier to root.

        • this is by far the easiest way i’ve found        http://www.thunderboltforums.com/forum/htc-thunderbolt-development/5259-unrevoked-5-minutes-less-root-without-data-loss.html

          • Anonymous

            I have mac…

          • it from what i’ve seen it should work if not try this http://forums.androidcentral.com/thunderbolt-rooting-roms-hacks/71919-mac-procedure-how-root-htc-thunderbolt.html

          • Anonymous

Wayyy too long. I would end up with a 600 dollar brick.

          • either way it’s all easy they just look hard but are not, and i dont see any reason why the five min wont work on a mac have you ever rooted before?

          • Anonymous

            Yup. Eris with unrevoked.

        • i tried it twice and it seems to be pretty good

  • Anonymous

What is different in this RUU then the one leaked the other day?

  • Thunderatrix

It’s about time… no more alpha gingerbread rom builds 🙂

  • Jdkoreclipse

i already packaged it up , deodexed and debloated it: http://rootzwiki.com/showthread.php?t=3247
