Thursday Poll: DROID Incredible 2, DROID X2 or DROID 3?

We first reported the news that Verizon had plans for follow-up devices to its entire DROID lineup which would include the Incredible 2, DROID X2, and DROID 3.  The news was exactly what we needed to hear after seeing only 1 DROID-branded phone at CES, but it also means it’s time we ask users for their opinions on the 2011 versions of our favorite family.  The picture above could possibly be the Incredible 2 and looks amazing, but there is also that new DX2 on the way which could come equipped with a dual-core processor and qHD screen.  And of course, we also can’t forget about the OG’s 3rd brother, the DROID 3 which is a complete surprise at this point.  So tell us, which of these devices has you most excited?  Or are you just waiting for 4G LTE?

We know it’s early for a poll like this, but we also know that you have strong opinions on your current devices that could reflect on future purchases.

Incredible 2, DROID X2, or DROID 3?

I think it’s the HTC Motorola Droid X Incredible 2

  • http://twitter.com/tvoneicken Thorsten

I don’t give a damn about 4G or most of the other features. #1 is whether the boot loader can be unlocked and it can run CM

Just give me a ballsier DInc, with a 4″ screen. I’m in love with the current one.

i really would like all of these to have some sort of stock choice…like turn off sense. i dont want to have to rootmine just to have stock android.

Its obviously the inc2, look at the back cover, pretty similar to the inc1, plus it says WITH HTC SENSE on the back lol, obviously its an HTC phone. no wai its anything other than the inc 2

READ THE FULL ARTICLE, It’s not asking if it’s the incredible 2, it’s asking if you want to buy it, the droid x2 or the Droid 3

It was shocking to me of how many people didn’t understand the pole. I didn’t even see the wiggle room for misconstruing the pole. Dummy’s.

        Dinc 2

        • Anonymous

          LOL @ “pole”

          not once, but 2x

I wasnt saying that the poll was about what phone it was, i was just stating that its pretty obviously the inc2

I’m not a big fan of Motorola, their blocky designs, or Motoblur. The Droid X is a great phone, but I prefer the HTC, their slim and curvy designs, and Sense. So I’m definitely more interested in an Incredible 2 than an X2.

As for a Droid 3, well, I used to think a hardware keyboard was essential back in the days of resistive touchscreens and Windows Mobile. But I type as fast on my Incredible as I ever did on my Touch Pro2, and I imagine it’d be even easier on the larger screens that a lot of Android phones are sporting these days. So now a hardware keyboard just seems to add unnecessary thickness to a phone.

That said, while I’m liking the lack of buttons and trackball on the Incredible 2, I really don’t like that chrome edge around the front. It reminds me of Samsung.

  • Niemeyer2010

I would of said Droid X2, but now that the Inc2 leaked today, I changed my mind…

Instead of playing games with phones that are all compromises Motorola needs to introduce a Droid 3 Global, 4G on all networks, unlocked, dual core, and that nice laptop docking station as shown at CES with the Atrix.

  • Anonymous

I have been so impressed with the DX that I will definitely wait for the DX2. But the Bionic has me intrigued though.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1156200227 Johnny Perry

I honestly can’t decide now, they all sound really good.
What it comes down to is which one feels best when I play with it so its way too early to decide.
I don’t need 4g because I live on a college campus that has WiFi almost everywhere, however it would be nice to stream movies during road trips.

love my OD droid hoping for a full powered hack friendly replacement

  • Anonymous

the Droid 3 is probably going to get stock but the keyboard is actually a turn off, it just makes the device thicker and I only use on screens anyway

  • http://twitter.com/TheGrantSays Grant Williamson

Are you joking? Why would it be Droid 3 or X2? Those are Motorola’s names lol. Incredible is the only one that makes sense because it’s HTC and looks just like it.

    • Anonymous

You obviously didnt read the article

  • Anonymous

Kind of difficult to pick one when none of the specs are confirmed. And with Motorola saying one of them will come with vanilla Android I’m guessing that one will be a popular choice amongst many of us. And, for the record, 4G LTE isn’t a priority for me.

  • Kdkinc

To me the Droidx is fine. The possible changes to the Droid X2 beyond the dual processor are few.
Droid 3 or most likely HTC is in the future.

  • Jawshua

Does Verizon ask or pay you to do these surveys for them. They seem way to orientated to be just random posts.

    • Anonymous

I don’t think you understand what this blog is about, it’s about the Droid brand of phones mainly and the Droid brand of phones are only on verizon AKA theirs going to be a lot of verizon related posts

    • http://perpetualn00b.tumblr.com quiklives

I wish it worked that way – then maybe they would actually listen to the results!

As stated above, since the Droid brand is Verison exclusive, obviously this is all going to be about Verizon.

  • The350zWolf

    Droid3 FTW baby, yeah!

  • EC8CH

If only HTC would design a phone to work in a dock… come on HTC!

  • Anonymous

If the droid Incredible 2 wants to deserve it’s name it better come with a dual core

I was so stoked that I had an upgrade coming up but I don’t til next year. Don’t know why I thought it was this year. I think I’ll get a tablet and stick with my D1 for now. And drool.

  • Anonymous

    4G for sure!! =) if I want to get a 3G then I will get the vz i*hone =)

  • Anonymous

I love Motorola phones, have for years, but I can’t help but feel like cheating on them just this one time when the HTC Thunderbolt comes out.

  • Anonymous

Right now I am looking at the HTC Thunderbolt as my choice of new phone from my OGD1 rooted device. But, some interesting news with these three new phones especially the DX2 and the Droid 3 coming out is making me hold back from purchasing The Thunderbolt.

I think it’s going to be very interesting with the release of the Tegra 3 processors coming out at the end of the year as well. Alot of us are drooling already and can’t wait till the end of the year. Quite the time for Android and us consumers :)

  • David

    Think I’m goin bionic

  • KleenDroid

I went with the Incredible due to Motorola’s locked bootloaders…. I’ve had the last 3 Moto Droid’s and it’s time to move on.

i did too but I would like one with a 4 in screen

I really want to say Droid 3 but with Moto seeming to be on the fence with helping out the custom Rom world i think i will be moving to an HTC phone and that screen looks real good to me, I am also hoping that it wont be an LTE phone so i can keep my unlimited 3g plan. With that being said if any of these come out with an unlocked bootloader they will get my money sadly even if i do have to pay full retail price.

    • Coaster36

I agree with you. Id get the one with the unlocked bootloader before anything as long as its 3G,

  • Rousellbrandon

After a d2g that power cycled and now dx that does the same.my dinc is still my favorite phone.and will be going back to htc with next phone.

  • Coaster36

I dont want 4G. I dont need it and I dont want to pay extra. My bill is already close to $100. I would rather keep 3G and have an unlocked bootloader.

    • Jawshua

Yeah I have to agree. I’m not looking forward to giving Verizon more money anytime soon, I’d rather just stick with 3G for quite a while. And I don’t even use 3G barely at all because I’m always using my phone at my house on Wi-Fi. I’d rather have a front facing camera and a decent back speaker than 4G!

  • Anonymous

I want a twinc, i do like a real keyboard but blur kills, and I know people will hate me for saying this, but the x has to big of a screen, if i want a screen that can barely fit in my pocket, ill get a g-tab.

  • viewthis66

only 4G going forward please, thanks. Thunderbolt/Bionic and beyond!!!!!!!

  • Anonymous

Its a tie between the D3 and the DX2. I love the option of the hardware keyboard on my droid but I wanna try out a larger screen because 3.7″ is too small at times.

  • EC8CH

Any word yet on if the Dinc 2’s screen size is getting increased???

    • Anonymous

by the picture the srceen size is already bigger, the phone is roughly about the same size as the inc but the screen goes further(because no optical trackpad)

  • Anonymous

can i get them all? i didnt see that option. ive had the DX since the day it came out, my Droid i got from ebay just came yesterday..
guess who is a happy camper…ME…ill take the XOOM too btw

    • http://twitter.com/strikeir13 Keir Stiegler

ha i did the exact same thing. DX for daily driver but i got a used D1 off of ebay for fun ;)

  • Anonymous

    I like the iphone 3GS look-alike. I mean the incredible 2.
In all seriousness though, I’m still sold on the thunderbolt.

    • EC8CH

maybe i*hone up front… but all Droid in the back :-)

gotta love the Dinc’s contoured back!

  • Thisguy

    thats a windows phone.

    • Anonymous

      Proof it

  • http://www.facebook.com/steve0mac Steven Cornea

not the droid x2, thats moto

not the droid 3, also moto

so by process of elimination it has to be a Samsung Galaxy S phone.

  • Jimmy

For me it all depends on 4G pricing. If there’s even some possible way I can keep my unlimited data (wishful thinking I know) then I will get the thunderbolt.

If not, then I’m ditching Motorola because I can’t stand Blur. I’ll be going with the Incredible 2.

  • Seedster

I’m having a tough time explaining how and WHY they’re introducing an entire lineup of new phones that aren’t 4G LTE. It makes NO sense with all the marketing dollars they’ve been pumping into their new network (with NO phones out yet!). Big Red, why you so confoose me?

    • Anonymous

It’s simple. They truly are not ready to jump into the 4G game. They’re so concerned about putting stress on their new 4G network. Which explains the unacceptable pricing. I still cannot put into words how furious I am to learn that my option is $50.00 for 5gb. That provides no incentive to make me want to drop my UNLIMITED 3g for $30.00. I have been a Verizon customer for 7 years, all of my adult life. If they aren’t willing to negotiate better 4G pricing with me, then I will be considering other providers. Aside from that, has any other Droid X owner out there felt that their data speeds are not as fast as they were on their Droid 1? Example: youtube videos will start playing, get partially through and then just stop because it can’t load fast enough. Am I the only one? God I’m so effing furious.

      • Straynova

Verizon’s “unlimited” 3G is capped at 5GB, with overages if you pass that threshold, and I’m pretty sure that the only announced data pricing is for their USB modems. I’m with you when it comes to hoping their phone 4G plans are less expensive, but I wouldn’t get too upset until we hear some real news.

        • Anonymous

Ive heard so many mixed things about that whole capped at 5gb thing. Somebody on here just the other day was saying while it isn’t capped, it gets purposefully slow once you exceed a certain amount. If it charges overages after 5GB, then their “unlimited” data plan is false advertisement, plain and clear. How can I see how much data I am using monthly?

          • Anonymous

Ok, I’m looking at it now using the Verizon app. It says my data usage is 0.858GB and my Cycle ends 2/1/11. So that’s all I have used in a month? Okay, so what I should do in my next cycle is tether my Xbox 360 to my Droid X, play a lot of COD online, and rack up over 5gb. If they dare charge me for overages, that is clearly false advertisement, because it says plain as day “899755.4KB/UNLMTD” . . . NOT “899755.4KB/5GB” . . They can be sued for that if that were true. Seems like we will never get a clear cut answer on the whole unlimited thing. But Straynova, with all due respect, I don’t think you are correct.

      • Seedster

“They truly are not ready to jump into the 4G game. They’re so concerned about putting stress on their new 4G network.”

I can’t say I agree with you. They’re about to launch two killer phones in the next 90-120 days which will sell in the millions. Mobile data plans haven’t been released yet but I have the feeling there WILL be an unlimited plan (albeit higher than the 3G plan of course)…this will put a substantiated ‘stress’ on the network and I doubt it’ll even flinch. I still don’t get these phones though….

if I am going to investing up to 2 years in a new Verizon phone it has to be 4GLTE otherwise I will be paying full retail in a year anyway for a new phone. I will happily go along with my OG Droid until the Bionic is a reality.

  • Jem Harris

If this is the Incredible 2 then I am already sold. I just want a none 4g device (in less there is no extra charge then I’m game), a dual-core, 4-4.3″ screen, and htc sense. Contract is up in May and I am licking my chops at all these amazing phones coming out.

I’d say Droid Incredible 2 for me, unless the DX2 comes out sooner.

From the looks of it, the Droid 3 is “Pure Google”, powered by an OMAP4 processor, qHD (or more) display and slide out QWERTY keyboard. The “Pure Google” part intrigues me, but apparently wont come till the end of the year – November most likely. By then though, I’ll have another upgrade, so the Droid Incredible 2 will do me just fine. :)

    • EC8CH

unlocked bootloader is more important to me than pure google…

I can get pure google for myself if the bootloader isn’t locked down.

      • Anonymous

Well, Pure Google experience indicates unlocked bootloaders. It’ll be exactly like the original Droid, but hopefully Google handles the updates for D3 this time instead of Verizon and Motorola.

        • EC8CH

Google isn’t going to do that unless it’s a nexus phone, and I could see Moto putting a vanilla android phone out, but that doesn’t mean the bootloader needs to be open.

  • Darren B

Droid 3. It will likely be the only one with a physical keyboard. That’s more important to me than 4g.

    • JoeLivesLife

Plus 4g will have an extra fee and isn’t available in every place 3g is. In some places, mostly airports, which already have wifi

      • Anonymous

Both very good points. I’m just hoping they find a way to make that screen bigger. :)

        • Anonymous

Ya if the screen goes to 4 inches I will gladly go back to droid keyboard line but after using a DX for the past few months there is no going back to 3.7.

      • Anonymous

4G since I am in a major city =) and 2011 using 3G phone then I should rather get the VZ i*hone lol

      • Darren B

Don’t get me wrong… I live in the heart of Minneapolis and I will certainly have the option of 4G available. I just prefer to choose my phones over the feel of the hardware versus spec sheets and whatever is popular at the time. 4″ screen would be a huge step in the right direction I will admit.

4G is desirable because it is being pushed so hard. Realistically I have played Call of Duty online tethered to my phone over wifi with no lag, which is more than i can say about the Qwest landline I pay for.sometimes.Would 4G be nice? Sure. Do I need it? Absolutely not.

        • Anonymous

I lived in Minneapolis for 7 years. Wonderful city.

And I totally agree with what you’re saying. For me, the actual “feel” of the phone is more important than a bunch of numbers listed on a spec sheet.

        • http://twitter.com/hpizzy Hiral Patel

          Wow COD

    • Alex Levine

coming from a droid 1 i thought i ‘needed’ the physical keyboard but i went with the incredible 2 and i found that the UI and the big screen solved the problems i thought i needed a physical keyboard to solve. for all those considering the incredible 2, the HTC Sense UI is an unbelievable improvement to my android experience and must be taken into consideration
