DROID X ROM: Liberty by Kejar and JRummy

Two beasts in the DROID ROM community partnered up to release something new that I’ll be recommending for all Droid X and Droid 2 owners.  The ROM is called Liberty and it comes from Kejar31 and one of our all time favs, JRummy16.  The base for this beauty is Kejar’s GummyJar ROM and then has Rummy’s toolbox and tweaks written all over it.  You’ll find goodies like the old school rotary lockscreen, Gingerbread themed Swype, custom wallpapers, and seriously, so much more.  For fans of yellow, this is also a nice replacement for the Gingerbread green we’ve seen everywhere.

Download for DX:  LibertyX-1.0.zip

Download for D2:  Liberty2-1.0.zip

*Your DX needs to be running .320 or .340.

1.  You obviously have to be rooted.  (Instructions)
2.  You need to have Koush’s Bootstrap Recovery.
3.  Open the DX Bootstrap and “boostrap” the recovery.
4.  When that finishes, “reboot recovery.”
5.  Once your phone boots to Clockwork Recovery, scroll down to “backup and restore.”
6.  Choose “backup” to make a clean backup of your phone.
7.  After that choose “wipe data/factory reset” to wipe your phone.
8.  When that finishes choose “install zip from SD card.”
9.  Then “choose zip from SD card” and find the Liberty1.0.zip, select it and hit “yes.”
10.  Your phone will apply the ROM. When it finishes, reboot and enjoy!

I’m fairly new to rooting, and I want install this rom without bricking my phone or losing my apps. I was wondering if I need to use Koush’s Bootstrap Recovery, or can I just use Titanium Backup?

    JESUS CHRIST. best rom yet….

This is a beautiful work of art. The only issue I’m having is with visual voicemail. I can’t get it to work. When I install the one from vcast it says my phone has a better one built in. After installing this Tom there is no visual vm icon on the menu. Anybody has encountered this problem? Droid X

Installed a little bit ago, and loving it so far – the animations are great, it’s snappy, etc. But strangely, the themes won’t load for me. Keeps telling me the zip files are bad. Any ideas?

    • http://perpetualn00b.tumblr.com quiklives

Went to the support thread and found mirrors for the themes- that seems to have fixed it, seems like somehow it wasn’t downloading right, directly.

      • Anonymous

okay I had to do this too, in order to get Gingerbread Theme working. Am I going to have to do this for everything within the Liberty Toolbox? (for example changing to the rotary unlock and changing the pulldown bar? Anyone that can weigh in on this? HELP! lol

        • http://perpetualn00b.tumblr.com quiklives

The only time it happened for me was with the themes, so I went ahead and downloaded all the ones I might want and put them in the right folder. Now I can go into the toolbox and load them (& switch between them) from there. Everything else has been super easy.

          • Anonymous

Still shouldn’t have to do that though
What gives? I came from apex

          • http://perpetualn00b.tumblr.com quiklives

I agree, and it seems to be working properly for the majority of folks, so I assume it’s just that something didn’t load *quite* right for us. I don’t know enough about how it all works to figure it out, but I solved it to my own satisfaction (ie got the theme I wanted) and left it at that.

i installed the rom and it worked fine, but i rebooted this morning and suddenly it asked me 15 digits password, my password was only 4 digits any idea how to fix this?

    • Njd32

Just do a factory reset in clockwork. You will lose everything in the rom but it will let you get pass your problem

  • Da Bus56

Argh! Forgot to move the zip to the sd card. Left it in a folder so I couldn’t access it from the recovery menu. Great, wiped phone so I have to get everything back off the sd and restore so I can do it again.

can you not just long press and choose input method?

  • azn lee

I’m a newbie droid x user and recently rooted my phone using Z4…I’ve installed superuser, droid overclock, and droid x bootstrapper, rom manager, and titanium backup…oh, and ASTRO.
First question, read the instructions below:

    Instructions:

    —————–
when I run step number 7, will that wipe out ALL of the data in my phone (i.e. contacts, pictures, songs, etc etc)?

    Second question:
what exactly is a ROM (i’m guessing it’s differing from computer ROM) and why is there so many versions of them? which one is good?

Third question: Im a droid x 2.2.1 user. Where can I find a good instruction on customizing/changing the boot animation? will this also affect the data?
    Thanks!

    • azn lee

      ALSO!!!!!!!!!!!! one more question,
what is deodex(?)ing? and how do you do it?!?!

    • dmichelr

Question 1: yes, that will wipe everything on your phone, but not your SD card. Backup all your apps and data on Titanium (goes on your SD card), and once you install the ROM reinstall Titanium and restore all your apps and data.
Question 2: they are basically rebuilt versions of Android, and there are so many versions because every dev has their own spin on what Android should be (and how much motoblur it should have).
Question 3: I know that Liberty has a feature in the toolbox that allows you to change the boot animation or remove it completely (for faster boot times)

Okay..honestly, this site is like a must-know site for every android user out there..It’s just so amazing that:
    1) The D-L app should be preinstalled on every android phone.
    2) The site should be prebookmarked on every android phone
    3) I enjoy visiting this site more than…anything else there is on the internet

  • Heymondt2000

I just got settled with GumJar and rght when I think my life is perfect, there comes Liberty to raise the bar even higher. *Sigh* Guess I’ll have to try it out :P

And how come everyone has failed to mention anything about that beautiful Gingerbread Swype theme?? I’m wondering if we can just install it right on top.

  • John

OK, whenever I try to go into “Liberty Settings” it says the android process has quit or something of the sort. I’ve rebooted the phone twice and it still does the same thing. Any ideas?

  • Chris Nimon

This is my favorite phone set-up to date. The color scheme took some time to get used to, but it’s blazing fast and has a lot of cool tweaks.

I actually catch myself smiling when I unlock it and see that Liberty Yellow Wallpaper.

I flashed all the themes except Revolution (wouldn’t load for some reason) and took screen shots. So for those wanting to know what each theme looks like here’s the link. http://s596.photobucket.com/albums/tt50/chrisnimon/Liberty%20Rom%20Themes/

    • M1ghtysauc3

      Thanks man!

    • Anonymous

Nice, running Revolution myself. I’m always a big fan of the circle battery indicator.

    • Rob

Thanks for putting up all those shots, that’s awesome!

    • Cody Chaplain

I’m having trouble getting new themes. I go to the toolbox, select one, and it says says aborted, unable to find theme. maybe i need to drop .zip on root again?

Help ! newbie here. If I install this rom and I dont like it at all, can I revert back to my original rom I just came from ? Help ! Dont know enough about this but Im getting it slowly….. Thanks

    • Anonymous

Make a nandroid backup before flashing the new rom, and if you don’t like it you can just restore back to the backup in recovery mode.

  • Mr Carteratl

OK THIS ROM IS FAST. CLEAN. FLAWLESS. THIS WILL HOLD ME UNTIL I DECIDE WHAT NEW 4G VZ PHONE I WANT. I WILL BE DONATING. D2

  • GraveHypothesis

Is there a way to change the dock?

  • Draggerlane

This is a serious battery hog. Had full bettery when installer this ron and it completely drained my battery dry in 20 minutes

    • http://www.facebook.com/ThornfullessRose Devin Jones

you’re the only one so that has to be a personal problem.

    • Anonymous

Yeah, there’s no way that’s true. Got great battery life out of this. Must have installed over another rom such as Obsidian that still has the racing problem.

      • Draggerlane

It is true I don’t have any other rom on my phone. I don’t know why but I charged up my phone again and it took alittle longer to drain but two hours isn’t good life either I restored back to stock root with the overclock at 1.4 and the phone is at 90% running for 4 hours now so yes the rom is the problem.

  • GraveHypothesis

also.. how long does it usually take to change the theme? jw.. :D

i am stuck on liberty loop too what did you do????

  • GraveHypothesis

This is an amazing ROM!!! Thank you JRummy and everyone else involved!

  • Irish22022

I gotta say, I’m a little new to rooting, I’ve only used a couple of ROMs, but I really can’t see much difference from ROM to ROM. I like all of them. They all seem stable. I came from gummyjar to liberty, kept my Frost theme, so it looks the exact same. Runs the exact same. May as well be the same ROM, except for the handy toolbox for even more customization.

If you’re getting a blurless ROM (which is all I’m really interested in either way), what does the ROM actually change? I don’t get it. Small things here and there, but they all seem to run the same.

    • http://perpetualn00b.tumblr.com quiklives

Some people have better luck with one than another. I think every phone runs just a little bit different, so they respond differently to different ROMs. Some of it IS theming and such too – often, the same themes aren’t available from one ROM to the next.

  • http://twitter.com/Siphyn Adam Newman

I’ve used Apex, Fission, GummyJar, and now Liberty and so far Liberty tops them all. The toolbox features alone are amazing.

  • http://twitter.com/triton54 Kevin Spano

    Camera issues anyone else?

    • Kristian92

yes my camcorder keeps force closing on me :( need help
