PayPal Payments on Android Confirmed through Developer Account

The rumors of PayPal coming to Android as a payment option started getting heavy at the beginning of the month with the most recent word suggesting that it would go live after their developer conference this week in San Francisco.  How close are we to that happening?  Really close if you take the screenshot above to mean what we think it means.

According to the profile page for Android developers, there is now an option to add your PayPal account, so that you can easily transfer funds from it over to your Google Checkout account.  And why would devs have received funds into their PayPal accounts?  Because we would be buying their apps with our PayPal monies, silly people.

This is bs. The wording used in that statement doesnt make sense. Missing words in sentences, and the font sizes sf ont match. I dont know 1 developer that has this, and I dont have it. Plus, why would I configure it on the main publishing page and not on the edit profile page. This is CS BS.

  • I hate PayPal!

  • Bullet Tooth Tony

Awesome. Now identity theft can take place on mobile devices! Fraud will skyrocket, and thieves will rule the market.

I smell a “photoshop” or fake here. Typos in the details (“account will transferred”?), font seems off and not fitting correctly. Either this was an “oops” on Google's part in a few ways or this is not legit. I would expect an email from Google as well as they have done with other things like this, and nothing.

Im more interested in that BUY NOW link for developers to get an unlocked phone.

    • jonfhancock

It is a store where you can get one of two POS Android 1.6 phones or a nexus one for full retail price. Nothing too interesting…

Paypal is a horrible disease. Great for buyers, terrible for sellers.

    • Chris.Go

Your face is a horrible disease.

      • Timoh

Could be, but if I were paypal I'd charge people every time they looked at it.

  • Ravenscorn

I hope these developers have a paypal micropayments account set up. The regular PP fee's will kill ya! Oof!

  • Travis

Just get a free Paypal debt card and use that to check out and buy apps….easy as 123.

  • otaviopr

    Thats really great! =D

Unfortunately i can't buy things with my google apps account and the android won't add a normal second google account because of some kind of extremely silly bug!

Can't wait to see if we will be able to buy using some sort of paypal login =S

I buy a lot of apps from the market and have always paid via PayPal. From the very beginning, I just put my PayPal debit card in Google Checkout. Simple.

    • jonfhancock

That is a super smart idea.

  • TheDrizzle

I really don't see what the problem with Google Checkout is. Why does everyone say it is so horrible?

    • jonfhancock

The biggest complaints I have seen are that it is very limited as to which countries can use it, and you have to use a credit card. No checking accounts allowed.

      • As a buyer I think Google checkout works fine. I've used my debt card to buy apps with no problem.

  • Same here – nothing in my account.

  • jonfhancock

Nice. My account doesn't show that yet. Kind of annoying for me though because I just spent about 40 hours writing the code to support PayPal payments directly… =

    • Nathaniel

Not showing in mine yet either…although I am excited about the new ability to license our apps and run a verification through the market. Sorry to the people who like to pirate software.

    • CONGRATS!!! You've won a George Lopez bobble head!!!

      • NadTwist

George Lopez has a big head… does it actually “bobble”, or just fall over? :p

      • CIFchamp24

        Really??!!! I'm excited now!
